Lost wireless connection when upgrading to 10.6.8

Friend upgraded to 10.6.8 and has lost the ability to establish wireless connecttion again after re-start.  I was able to re-estable Airport connection to the router, but it will not go to the final internet connection process.  I ran Assistant and it goes all the way through till it needs to connect to the internet and a message comes up to restart router.  I do this but noting happens.  Gets stuckrepeating the restart router message.  Any suggestions?
I had the same proble when I upgraded last weekend, I use an Airport Express, and it took me several trys to finally get internet back and finally the last patch to get the wireless printer to work.

You may want to have a look at this posting. Many owners of Xerox printers, mostly with Fiery print controllers, are having the same error with the lpd backend. The easiest solution for many was to retrieve the 10.6.7 version of the lpd backend from their time machine backup and replace the new 10.6.8 version. If you don't have a time machine backup (crazy practice when the app is built in) then a kind user has posted the file for others.

  • Lost printer connection when upgraded Finality connection

Upgraded Xfinity Internet connection.  I have wireless printer (HP deskjet  3051A) and lap top Toshiba - and use windows 7.  With the upgrad I received a new netwrok name and password for my wireless connection.  There is no isses accessing the internet etc, but when I upgraded I lost the printer connection on my lap top.  Xfinity said they couldn't help.  It appears like something needs to be reconfigured but I have not been able to do that.  Any easy solution to fix this problem?

    Hi,
From the cotrol panel select Devices and Printers, right click and remove any listed HP Deskjet 3050 printer by selecting Remove Device.
From the Start menu go to Programs > HP > HP Deskjet 3050 and click the printer icon to launch its software.
Select Conenct a new printer by selecting wireless connection, follow the steps on screen to configure the printer for your new router.
Note: the installation might require a temporary USB connection in order to configure the printer for your new network.

  • MacBook loses wireless connection when iPod touch connects to network

    hi
ever since upgrading to 10.5.5. on my MacBook i've had the "intermittent network connection" problems that have been described and discussed (without any real solution from what i can see) in another thread.
PROBLEM: every couple of minutes my MacBook loses connectivity to the network - the AirPort icon still says that i'm connected, albeit with one less bar than before, but i can't connect to anywhere, not even to the wireless router - and to re-establish a connection i need to switch off AirPort, switch it back on, it will then reconnect, and after two minutes or so i have to do it all over again because the network connection drops again.
NOVEL OBSERVATION 1: reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater helped somewhat. i used to get an error in system.log about there being too many state transitions on the wireless network and about network traffic reduction measures being taken to overcome this problem, but after reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater this message never appears in the logs and I get kicked off only sometimes (see what i say in point 2 below)
NOVEL OBSERVATION 2: now my MacBook will only lose its connection to the net if i switch on my iPod Touch and switch its wireless interface on. in fact, the only way to avoid the MacBook getting constantly disconnected is to make sure that the wireless interface on the Touch is switched off in the Touch's system preferences; if I just sleep the Touch (top button) without switching off its wireless network interface first in its System Preferences, then the MacBook will keep disconnecting even while the Touch is in sleep mode (presumably the Touch keeps polling the network or something, even while it's in sleep mode).
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 1: I have another wireless device (my Nokia E51, which has wifi capabilities) and if I connect it to the wireless interface then the MacBook's connection isn't dropped - i.e. the MacBook only loses its wireless connection when my iPod Touch connects to the wireless network.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 2: I have upgraded my wireless router (before I had a Linksys WRT-54GC, now I have a Netgear WGR614v9) but that has made no difference.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 3: I have also tried altering the router's settings (i have played around a_lot with this, trying every combination I could think of - e.g. staple down particular devices to particular ip addresses, use only 802.11g versus automatic b/g, etc) but that has made no difference either.
    RANT:
The only thing that prevents these disconnections from occurring is to keep the iPod Touch's wireless switched off, which ***** because if I'm in the kitchen I can't have it switched on to monitor my email (yes, I've no life, i hang around waiting for emails), or if I go have a lie down and want to check out stuff on the net, or to browse the iTunes music store or whatever, then I know that my connecting my iPod Touch the computer will be disconnected.
This obviously *****, right? And a lot of people are having wireless problems with their MacBooks, right? And these problems seem to have been around for over a year, right?
So why hasn't Apple solved this problem yet? Or am I just being melodramatic?
Your thoughts on any or all of the above, or flames if that's your preferred method of communicating, are invited. =)
    Cheers

Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.

  • E60 lost wireless connection to network

my E60 lost wireless connection to network. tried GPS, DUAL, automatic, manual search for network. Same SIM works fine with different phone. Any idea anyone?

    Hi Neil
I'm not familiar with HH (I use a third party router) but it looks as though the HH is set to NOT broadcast the SSID. I'm sure that if you go into the HH settings (the address foe the HH should be 192.168.1.254) you should find somewhere a check box or whatever that allows the router to b'cast the SSID or not. Some would argue that you should not b'cast the SSID but IMHO it makes no difference as the SSID is so easy to discover even if it's not being b'cast.
Just another thought is that you might have to set the wireless connection up as a separate connection to the wired connection. I don't know which OS you are using but if Win 7 then go into 'Network and Sharing centre' and then select 'connect to a network' and take it from there. If not on Win 7 then, if I recall correctly, right click on the networking icon in the system tray and there should be an option to connect to a network.
Hope this helps, if not then I'm sure there are other HH users on this forum who will provide advice.

  • Satellite L500 - Lost wireless connection

My Satellite L500 recently lost wireless connection. I looked up the Realtek wireless device in Device Manager, and it says the device is working properly. I have tried using "ping 192.168.1.1" to reach the router, and I get "Transmit error - general failure".
    Any ideas?

    Hi buddy,
And now does Windows recognize some WLAN networks in range? Your posting lost wireless connection is not very useful
You should try a WLAN driver update that you can download on official Toshiba page:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
If you still cannot find or connect to WLAN networks disable the WLAN power saving mode in Windows power profiles. You have to set it to maximum performance.

I believe that it is in AirPort Express, and would have to clean it. How do you do that?

You need to use the Express in router mode.. I think you are trying to use it in bridge mode.. but you need to give us a lot more details.. screenshots might help more than anything.

  • Lost internet connection on upgrade to 10.4

I hope someone can help, I'm truly foxed. My G5 Dual 2GHZ and iBook run 10.3.9 with a perfect internet connection (Zoom wireless). When I upgrade to 10.4 the wireless network is automatically found but I cannot connect to the internet at all. I have connected direct to the modem with cable, but still no joy. I installed the 10.4.5 upgrade, still no change. Once I reinstalled 10.3 again, perfect.
Can anyone help? I stumped. ( UK internet connection via Supanet)
    G5 Dual 2.0GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thank you very much for your interest. I have reinstalled for pehaps the fourth time and transfered my setting across using 10.4's own migration programme, and for an unacountable reason everything works. I have done nothing different from previous installations so I am still foxed, but releived. Thanks again

i lost my wireless connection with my mx860 - please help, i have tried it all
    thank you

Did you solve your printer connection problem?  I have the same issue.  When I first turn the system on, it is connected.  But after a short time (a few minutes?) it loses connection between Mac and printer, even tho both are connected to my WIFI.  I have to turn the printer and and off to reconnect it to the Mac.  Very frustrating.  I have checked Netgear, Printer and Mac settings and can't find any explanation.

  • Doesn't Make Wireless Connection After Upgrade to Leopard

G4 Mac mini, ethernet wired to a Belkin wireless G router via a cable modem to make wireless internet connection with my wife’s PowerBook G4 17” -- usually in the same room, but it works anywhere in the house. I’ve been running OS 10.4.11. All was fine. But now that I’ve upgraded (both machines) to OS 10.5.6, the PowerBook has lost it’s wireless connectivity to the router. It’s like Leopard simply doesn’t recognize the existence of the Belkin router. The Network folder in the System Preferences shows no connection to any of the modem types listed. The built-in Ethernet modem says “cable unplugged.” It would seem to me some sort of corruption has occurred in the Leopard install, but I have no idea how to find or fix it. I continue to have internet connection on my (wired) desk top Mac mini. Is this a problem I should take to the Leopard software forum? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. - Ken

It's more likely a software problem that something wrong with the PowerBook, so posting an additional question in the Leo forums' "Getting Online and Networking" sub-section is a good idea. Leave this one here in case it sounds familiar to other PB owners.

  • 10.5.2, Mac Pro with AE Card, AEBS (not Gigabit) lost wireless connection

Since I upgraded to 10.5.2, I have been having issues with my wireless connection on my Mac Pro. Here's my setup - an 802.11n Airport Extreme Base Station (not gigabit one) with a 802.11g AEBS connected to it. the 802.11n is running on the 5GHz Spectrum only and does not share with 802.11a (so it's running 802.11n only). The 802.11g AEBS is set to run on the 2.4GHz Spectrum and is set to accept both 802.11g and 802.11b. The MacPro has an Airport Extreme Card running 802.11n. The 802.11n base station is almost next to the 2 base stations.
Every once in a while, my Mac Pro will get disconnect to the basestation, and when I go to the Airport Signal icon, I can see both my basestation. I just have to select it again as if all of a sudden, my Mac Pro forgot which basestation it is connected to and get totally confused. It is one thing if the signal to the basestation is gone (have experienced that a few times when I have the 802.11g base station), it's something else to just get disconnected for no reason. Of course, when I select my basestation again, everything works fine (not as if it has problem re-establishing connection). This is getting a bit annoying, especially when I am trying to backup my files only to have been disconnected from the basestation. This doesn't happen every time I backup my files. It happens in random and there can be a long time without having drop the connection and then it can drop the connection 3 times in 10 minutes.
    Help!

I have read all the other post, but got no satisfying answer other than people saying Apple really screwed up with 10.5.2 and that doesn't really resolve the problem. Plus, it seems to me that most people's problem are with a 3rd party base station rather than an AEBS. My only other option maybe to down grade my Airport Card software, because I think the problem is with the Airport Card driver that's bundled with the Mac Pro, and frankly, I am not sure if Apple is ignoring the problem or working hard on it, but in either case, it's not fast enough in term of damage control.

  • Often lose wireless connection when using HDTV as monitor

I have an unusual wireless networking problem when using my Samsung HDTV in my living room as a monitor for my MacBook (when watching Internet TV shows, for example). Frequently when I switch URLs, networking freezes, even though the connection appears strong, with the Airport symbol at the top of my screen showing all bars. To re-establish the wireless connection, I have to go through the process of re-joining my network through the “Join Other Network" option. The signal holds as long as I don’t try to change it, as in selecting another URL.
I connect to my HDTV via HDMI cable, using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter from my Macbook’s video-out port. The audio connection is a mini-plug from the Mac’s headphone out jack to stereo RCA plugs associated with the TV’s HDMI port.
The wireless connection is through a Lynksys Wireless-G 2.4 Ghz, 54 Mpbs Broadband router.
I’d appreciate any solutions the Apple user community has to offer.

I'd say this has nothing to do with your display. The problem will likely lie in either your router settings, network settings or a simple signal strength issue. Try first changing the broadcast channel on your router, and make sure all settings are correct for your desired network.
