Lost wireless printing

Using macbook pro with canon mp 600. Printer works with USB cable, but not with cable plugged into AEBS

Hal,
I suggest removing the printer instance from the Printer List using the Printer Setup Utility found in the Utilities folder, then re-add the printer while it is connected via USB to the Airport Extreme Base Station again using the Printer Setup Utility.

Chris

  • Upgrade to OS X 8.2 lost wireless printing capability to Canon MF8380c

I can't believe how difficult it has been to resolve this ... upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X 8.2 and have now lost my ability to print wirelessly to my Canon MF8380c.  I've downloaded updated drivers from the Canon site, didn't help.  The computer is not seeing the Canon printer on its own and even when I type in the printer IP address, it doesn't work.  Any suggestions?  I'm not particularily computer literate - step-by-step instructions very helpful.

That's okay. With Safari being unable to connect I just wanted to check that the Mac and the MF were on the same subnet. So if you can check this, the IP subnet is determined by the subnet mask. If you have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, then the first three sets of numbers in your IP address is the subnet and the last number is the network address.
For example, a printer with an IP address of 192.168.0.10 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has an IP subnet of 192.168.0 and a network address of 10. To print to this printer a computer on the same network would also need an IP subnet of 192.168.0 but a different network address.
So if your Mac and the MF have the same IP subnet but a different IP address then they should be able to communicate with eash other. But I think this may not be the case based on your Safari test, unless the new IP address the printer has is now letting you connect to the internal web page of the MF.
If you can open the MF web page now then open Print & Scan, remove the current MF printer and add again. Note that if you add the printer using IP, you must use the LPD protocol.

Print a configuration page to get the printer's IP address.
    Printing a Network Configuration Page.
If you have a valid IP address for the printer then try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Internet Explorer)
If it loads the printer's network page then the printer is on the network.
Power cycle the  router, computer and printer.
    Try printing again.
If you are still unable to print, then run the add printer wizard.
From the start up screen, (tiles menu) type in "Devices and Printers", select settings, click on Devices and Printer,
    click on add a printer.
    Test the printer.
If the issue persists then uninstall the printer software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if that is causing the issue. How To Change Windows 8′s Startup Programs. Click on the start up tab disable all the programs running.
Then download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
    Test the printer.
Then you will need to go back in and enable the start up programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.

  • Wireless Printer address lost at PC RESTART

HDW Config: PC1 is XP SP3 hardwired (network cable) to BEFW11S4v4 (Most current firmware); PC2 is Wireless using WUS11 v2 ; Printer is HP 6988 Wireless.
SW Config and settings when failure still occurs: With or without Antivirus(AVG), Firewall (ZA, not msft), With or without WEP Key and with 64-bit WEP; XP at current SP3; 6988 set to use 806.11b all the time.

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21815028-HP-6988-wireless-connectivity
Problem simplified: PC1 (DHCP in .20-.26 range) that is hardwired to router can not find the printer after PC restart (PING to the printer 192.168.40 a static address) fails.
PC2 (static address 192.168.22) which is wireless has no problem pinging printer. If I switch PC1 to wireless mode, it also is successful every time even after PC restart.
So, problem is only on a PC hardwired to router trying to locate a wireless printer after a PC restart. If I cannot get to the printer, but cycle my router (unfortunately killing my other PC connections) the address becomes available (can now ping) and I can print to it.
Question: How is connection between printer and PC through the router established? How does my PC find out that there is a printer at 192.168.1.40 without me having to power-cycle the router? Sounds to me like one of the devices isn't abiding to protocols.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Router is fine. I connected PC2(laptop Windows/ME) via network cable and its XIRCOM Cardbus Ethernet 10/100 card and it has no problems seeing printer on 192.168.1.40.
Looks like its either XP or my NIC, Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connections. According to DELL site, I am at most current adapter driver(?) for it, but I did pull a newer "package" (don't know driver inside yet). Hesitated putting it on after it said I needed to delete old one first. I'll pull Dell driver (same as mine) for back and proceed with that way.
Can anybody think of anything in XP that could be corrupted

  • My Epson wireless printer has lost its connection with imac - how do I reconnect?

My Epson wireless printer is not responding to the print command displaying the message "looking for printer/the printer is not connected" but the printer is on and the wireless connection working - any thoughts please on how to resolve? Thanks

I've found that once in a while this seems to randomly occur. It's happened to me in the last couple of days with my Brother printer. The only way I could get it working was to go through the palaver of setting up the wifi connection to the printer again, using the control panel on the printer to rejoin the network and re-inputting the password.
The connecting can be made easier if it and your router support WPS pairing. Select WPS pairing on the printer and if offers up an 8 digit number that you input in the wifi configuration page of your router.

  • Sharing Linksys Wireless Print Server with MAC and PC - How to do?

I have lost the capability to share a printer on my network by using the Linksys Wireless Print Server-model number WPS54G -V2. Prior to having to return my previous Print Server on an RMA, I was able to use the MAC and PCs on my network. I have a PowerGook G4 with MacOS X 10.4.10. I also have a Airport Extreme Base Station V5.6. The printer on the network that is being shared is an Epson Stylus Photo 820. Recently, when trying to reconfigure the network, I updated the software on the Airport Extreme...so I think after that, I am no longer able to share this printer using current network configuration. As information, I will share how I got the network to share the printer BEFORE I had to replace the previous Print Server and BEFORE I updated the Airport Extreme. Please see this link:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050406151311940
Even though this was for a different type of Print Server, this worked for me.
When reconfiguring the new Print Server, I contacted Linksys...as had some difficulty until I found out how to assign a static IP to the new Print Server. When trying to talk to them about the Mac issue, and sharing the printer, they shared this link with me...which may be helpful to some, but I found that this does not work for me...
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060404021600193
I have been trying to work through the issue, but feel I may now have some compatibility issues between the Airport Extreme and the Epson printer.
Further details are that I use 10.0.1.78 for the assigned IP address for the Print server. My router (which is the Airport address) is 10.0.1.1. I have tried IPP printing option, LPD printing option...and IPP printing at least returns a status on the Print Server as "printing" as opposed to "idle". I have checked the Print status on the Mac, and I have received two (2) different error messages as to why the print job failed. They are:
"the process "picwpstops" stopped unexpectedly with status 1"
    and
"the process "rastertoprinter" stopped unexpectedly with status 1"
The latter happens when I follow the instructions on the second link I attached on this topic...with the only change being that I select IPP printing as opposed to LPD printing.
Anyone that has any insight into HOW to configure the mysterious settings for Mac OS printing so that it can be compatible with a Wireless Print Server, please feel free to comment. In the meantime, I am thinking that the links above could help some people...just not me at this point given my current configuration and versions of software/firmware and perhaps the printer I am using.
Greatly appreciate your consideration, and any suggestions to anyone that might understand what these error messages mean when checking the printer status after sending a file for printing.
    Thank you

    1. No, you don't have to make a bootable clone.
    2. If you use the drive for a bootable backup, then you cannot use the drive for other types of storage unless you partition the drive and make more than one volume.
    3. No, it will not try to boot the computer. You must designate the startup volume using Startup Disk preferences.
If you wish to use the drive on both a Mac and a PC, then either you make two partitions - one for Mac and the other for the PC or you must format the entire drive using FAT32 so the drive can be used for read//write by both operating systems. If you do this then you cannot use the drive for a bootable backup nor can you use it with Time Machine.
FAT32 is slower for read/write on the Mac than using Mac formatting.
Optimally, I would suggest you partition the drive into two volumes. One volume formatted for the Mac and the other formatted FAT32.
You can send files from a PC to a Mac and vice-versa using File Sharing. Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "file sharing" or "sharing" to find help articles. Also see,

  • HP LJ4mv wireless printer worked with OS 10.5.5 but not with 10.6.3 - help!

My ancient HP worked with 10.4.11 and 10.5.1 thru 10.5.5 wirelessly. With 10.5.6 thru 10.5.8 installed, the printer did ot work and only the Adobe printer appeared in the Printer/Fax setup. With 10.5.5, I was experiencing random horizontal gray lines, polygons with gradient colors (cyan and magenta) flashing on and off and smeared dialog boxes and drop down menues. So, I upgraded to 10.5.8 and lost the artifacts and my wireless printer. All drivers are current (Software Update delivered/installed updated drivers today.)
10.6.3 is now installed and I still do not have a wireless printer. The Adobe PDF printer pops up and in the Printer/Fax dialog, it indicates "Kind" as HP LaserJet 4V/4MV Postscript. The Default button is active but all other buttons are grayed out and my printer does not appear.
Summary: the printer works, the wireless router works and the drivers are current.
    Q. How can I get my wireless printer back? I need it badly.
    Thanks.
    Leonard

    Kappy, thx.
The driver that is appearing now with the Adobe printer worked fantastically with 10.5.5, HP LaserJet 4V/4MV Postscript. This is from Apple, I believe. My printer does not show up when + is selected in the Print & Fax dialog and the Printer Name/Kind list appears. Only the Adobe is there.
I d'l'd/instld the Gutenprint. I cannot select it until the printer appears in the Printer Name/Kind field.
    What is SL? :S
    Greg, thx.
The printer is cat 5 to the ISP's wireless router and I am wireless. This has always worked up to 10.5.5. I incrementally d'l'd os upgrades 10.5.6, 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 and found the printer would not appear when I tried to add it. With Leopard, up to 10.5.5, my printer appeared automatically and I just had to make a selection from the "Print Using:" drop down.
    Bruce, thx.
AppleTalk was a part of the setup and in 10.6, I cannot find AppleTalk. So you may be right about the IP route. Would Apple change this in the middle of Leopard with 10.5.6 (it worked up to 10.5.5) and not with 10.5.0 or 10.6.0? Would there not be an announcement that AppleTalk printer support was ending? No one in these forums knows that AppleTalk printer support was ended (I first posted in the Leopard forums)?
Sorry for the skepticism. I just did not think this was a possiblity but maybe you are right.
Is there a way to get an Apple reading on this? Should I set up a print server for wireless access? Any other suggestions?
Thanks again all. I much appreciate your help.

  • Wireless Printing issues with HP Deskjet 2540

    Hello everyone,
I am experiencing an issue with an HP Deskjet 2540 printer - it prints if I have connected it to a USB cable; however, it refuses to print if I try to print wirelessly.
I had initially solved this problem when I went to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners and noticed two Deskjet 2540 series icons in a window titled 'Printers'. I ended up removing one of these icons and set the other one as a default, which seemed to temporarily solve my problem. Now, I see two icons back in this 'Printers' menu and my printer refuses to print through my wireless connection.
My printer is connected to my internet connection so I don't think there is an issue here - I also have recently installed the software for this printer to make sure there was not some sort of driver issue; however, this does not seem to give me the permanent solution I am looking for.
Any Advice? My operating system is OS X Version 10.9.5

    Hey @love2dance,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I understand you're having difficulty printing wirelessly with your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this and may have some steps that will ensure you can print wirelessly from your Mac.
I recommend you start from scratch and re-do your printer install and wireless setup for best results.
Firstly, make doubly sure your printer is connected to your wireless network by doing the following:
Step one: Prepare for installationTo gather your network name (SSID) and password (WEP key or WPA passphrase), you can ask the person who originally set up your network, see the documentation that came with the router, or contact the manufacturer. HP cannot set up or change the network SSID or the password.
Make sure that you have the following requirements before you begin:
Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
WEP key or WPA security passphrase
A computer that is connected to the wireless network.
Internet access. HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
Your wireless-capable HP product. Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.
A USB cable (used only during installation).
    Administrator privileges or password
Make sure the product, access point, and computer are all on, and that the computer is connecting to the wireless network.
Connect the USB Cable to the rear port of the HP product and to any USB port on the computer.
Exit all applications running on your computer.
    Source
Secondly, prepare your Mac by removing any existing printers added:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Scan from the View menu.
Click the "-" (Remove printer) button.
Next, click here to download and install your printer's software.  As you work your way through the setup, follow the prompts to convert your usb install to wireless.  With this setup completed successfully your wireless printing capability should be restored.
One way to preserve this wireless connection is to make sure your wireless mode/router is left on continually.  If at anytime your network connection is lost, reconnecting your printer will mean that it's being assigned a new IP address.  The significance here is that your Mac will be looking to connect with the printer at an IP address that is no longer applicable.
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  Best of luck!

  • Can't do wireless printing using my macbook

    hello all!
i need a little bit of help here as i'm new to wireless printing.
i bought a new wireless-N router from Aztech model GR7000, it has two USB ports and allows files sharing and printer sharing. I have connect my Canon MP258 (a normal non-wireless All-in-One printer) to the router and i have successfully set up my desktop and my brother's laptop (both running windows vista) to print wirelessly. I have also set up my bootcamp (windows7) on this macbook pro i'm using to print wirelessly successfully. However, the problem comes when i wish to set up my macbook (OS X 10.6.6) to connect to this printer. The following are the steps i did to add this printer:
    Added under IP
    Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol
    Address: my router's IP address (e.g. 192.168.x.x)
    Queue: left blank
    Name: my router's IP address (e.g. 192.168.x.x)
    Location: left blank
Print Using: Auto Select and it sets it as Generic PostScript Printer
after which i went to the Print & Fax page to change the settings using Options & Supplies, i changed the driver of the printer to Canon MP250 series. I set this printer as my default printer and there is a green idle light below my printer name. I assumed this means my macbook has successfully registered my printer and detected it as online. However, when i go on with printing, nothing happens and the job queue will show my document is printing but will never be done printing. Anyone can please provide me some advices? I am lost. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you have the Canon AIO connected to the USB port of a wireless router/print server you cannot use the Canon provided drivers (or use Generic Postscript as you have done so far). Normally for this type of connection you need to use a CUPS driver, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab.
Gutenprint is preferred because it is free however your new MP258 is not listed as a supported model. So you could try using a different model of Gutenprint/Canon driver, such as the MP160, but you could waste a lot of ink, paper and time trying to find a good match.
So your other option is [PrintFab|www.printfab.net] which supports more recent models of Canon inkjets and costs €49. Your MP258 is not listed on PrintFab either, but your model could be region based (we have a similar thing in Australia with the MP495) and therefore may work with the MP250 or MP260.
Another option would be to replace the Aztech with an Airport Express or Extreme. Airport devices do allow you to use the Canon supplied drivers.
