Lost WP Text = Recovery Possible?

I've lost text in an AppleWorks Word Processing file. Here's what happened:
I opened a new file, gave it a name, and saved it to my desktop.
I wrote and perodically saved my work from the keyboard using Command-S.
While the document was open, I then changed the file name by clicking on the desktop icon and typing a new name.
Clicking back in the document I saw the new name replace the old one and continued typing.
I typed several thousand words saving as I went along.
I then quit and shut down my computer.
Several hours later I started the computer and double clicked on the desktop icon.
The file opened to the place where I made the name change. The added text, after the name change, was gone.
Is this text recoverable?
All this work was done on an iBook G3 running MacOS 10.4.6, AppleWorks version 6.2.7
Thank you for your assistance. - Fabe

You did one of two things while this file was open in AppleWorks, renamed the file in the Finder or moved the File in the Finder, that will "break" AppleWorks' connection to the file. Unless you had a program running in the background that records keyboard input, I'm afraid your work is lost & you will have to re-do it. There are two user tips dealing with this:
Dale Gillard - Document content not saved
Vic Menard - AppleWorks fails to save properly

  • Next Adventure - Text Recovery!

Here is my next journey  that I hope someone can help we with!!
I recently began using my I-phone 4 for business and have lost some text messages that were somewhat important!  I went back with Time Machine and restored ALL the back-ups that encompassed the time-frame I was interested in -  ***But, what happens if I delete texts BEFORE I synch and back-up.  Basically, I have "holes" in the record. I called AT&T and they said there is no way to recover these. However, I have seen some users here and there, and third party apps. etc that indicate it can be done?!  Some ideas were more complex than others - jailbreaking, etc.,  and many did not really ensure they would work.  I've gotten a few messages from people saying to try this or that, or they know someone who tried something, but has anyone had any first hand experience with a specific utility they might want to share?! If it cannot be done - then it cannot be done (I shouldn't have deleted them!) I appreciate the help!
    Thanks
    TL

Trying to get them back isn't impossible, but it's a real mess. You would have to restore from a backup made when they were last present on the phone. If you deleted them in between one backup and the next, they are gone forever.
In the future, if the message is something important you need to keep for reference, copy and paste it into a memo.
If you tend to use your phone for business as well as personal use (I do) you may want to look into Google Voice.
It provides a separate phone number that will ring through to your phone and handles SMS messages as well. There is a free app and several paid ones to interact with the service from the phone for messages and phone calls.
You can set time restrictions on when calls are permitted to ring through and even have it ring multiple phones at the same time and transfer calls between them.
Also keeps your business contacts from getting your personal number.

Post in your native language.  Your post is very difficult to understand.  What password are you talking about?  You device passcode?  Your Apple ID password?

Is there any way to search text messages via the iphone serial number? I had water damage and had to replace, I thought I had backed up my phone to itunes but I can not find it with a text recovery system, wonderwall for itunes.

No, the only way is that you have access to the old iPhone or you sync your iPhone to your computer or used iCloud.

  • Library lost: recovery possible?

I recently found out that my entire itunes music library had been deleted somehow, nowhere to be found. Is it perhaps possible to "recover" my library back to the computer from my ipod, or will I have to purchase off itunes/burn all my music again? Thanks in adv. for any help.

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
One more thing, If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Accidentally lost my photos/videos on iPhone 5.  Is recovery possible?

Today I was all excited to finally be able to connect my new iPhone 5 to iTunes and sync the information from my old 3GS phone.  Unfortuantely I did something wrong and lost the photos and videos (which I care about most).  I was able to recover the photos through photostream and 1 video (that I sent to a relative).  Is there anyway to recover the other videos?  The videos are from Christmas.

If you just resynced, unfortuntately those are gone. If they're no longer in your photo album on your phone, they're gone. Sorry to hear if that's the case, Ryan.

  • Partially successful deleted text recovery

    Phone type: LG VX9100
I was looking to recover a few deleted texts from this past weekend.  I know, there are a million forum posts all over on this topic.  I’ve read them all and still have a question. I downloaded BitPim (the fourth data recovery tool I tried) and I was able to recover four of texts that had been deleted.
However, it only recovered the four that I hadn’t yet officially read.  They were short enough to read in the Inbox of this phone.  When I’d realized what I’d done I immediately stopped sending or receiving texts to avoid "bumping" the deleted queue. I assume that unread messages just get held longer than read ones before permanent deletion from the phone.
I do consider myself fortunate that I even got that far but I thought if that’s possible, maybe recovering the other four is as well.  Any similar experiences?  Any advice?

Unless you had the texts backed up somewhere, once deleted from your phone, they're gone.

  • Lost display text

PowerBook G4 Titanium, running OS 10.3.9
I have lost most of the display text: file/folder labels, descriptions, etc. The computer boots and displays background image, file/folder icons, some text in the top bar but not all), a few characters for some of the items on my desktop.
I ran Disk Utility, DiskWarrior, reset the PRAM, checked that the zoom is not on (by the way, this is the only window that seems to display all of the text), deleted the com.apple.finder.plist file (at least I think I did, hard to tell when there is no label...).
I can log on (password is accepted although nothing shows up when I type), but cannot shut down the computer except by pushing the button in the back. Otherwise, it just goes back to the login window.
    Suggestions?
