  • Zen Nano installation disk quest

I already own a Zen Micro and have Creative Media Source installed on our computer. We just bought a Zen Nano (the re-labelled MuVo) and were wondering if these is any other software on the disk required to use the Nano. Since its recognized as a removable storage device upon plug-in, is there any other reason to install the software on the disk?
My main concern is accidentally overwriting the Creative MediaSource software already on the computer and wiping out all of the imported tracks and playlists I have set up for my Zen Micro.
    Thanks, all.

Ya no point in installing the CD from the nano player since you already have mediasource. Also, nano are like those muvo series that doesn't support playlist so it's kind of useless in mediasource too. Just use windows explorer with your nano.......

  • "Zen Nano" and "Zen Nano Plu

I just bought a Creative Zen Nano 52Mb MP3 player at BestBuy.
But everywhere I read, I see "Creative Zen Nano Plus".
What is the difference beetween Nano and Nano PLUS?

I have had my ZEN NANO for year. Then I start getting the flaky power shutdowns. so I start surfing lookin for an answer. One common answer I got was "upgrade the firmware." Well I thought "why would it go now.. I've never done anything out of the ordinary" Anyway long story short DON'T I repeat DON'T update the FIRMWARE until you check one vital thing. Connect your NANO if it shows up in Windows- so far so good- open the the dri've whether it is d: or e: whatever. Then right click on the NANO dri've and go to properties you should get a screen that says "Removable Disk X: Properties" FILE SYSTEM SHOULD BE FAT if it is FAT32 you may get more space but you also set yourself up for all sorts of weird issues. I backed up my mp3's formatted my NANO to FAT and reloaded it, found I didn't have enuff room for song, but I haven't had a random shutdown since i reformatted.....

  • I've lost the battery lid of my ZEN NANO PL

I've lost the battery lid of my ZEN NANO PLUS (black). There's a way to have it's I li've in Pisa (ITALY) and the shop where i bought the MP3Player (MEDIA WORLD) said me that thay have no a direct contact with you.
I very care about it cause it was a present.
    Thanks for the answer.
    *ITALIANO*
Grazie.

If you have broken two?covers, then I suppect you are a hard user.
Yes I am using players very often. I am listening daily?radio shows for a few hours and then I?am writing analysis and reviews of those shows.
If careful, they don't break. We have six of them here at my house?with no cover?breakage. The only one I gave as a gift, now has a broken tab. That owner just jamed the cover in place, so it was no surprise when it broke.
I think I am using the player normal and in daily situation - walking, in the bus etc... I have been able to find many examples of broken lid for Nano Plus that are available here:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...id=45600#M0239
    http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?p=7744
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=45686#M88234
Don't think that Creative is going to redesign the cover at this late date.
Well I didn't mean in the sense of re-design but in a sense of a new model that will upgrade Nano Plus. If new model will have better battery lid I would immediately transfer to another new and fresh model.
What is the current status of Nano Plus anyway? Has that model been replaced by any other new-upgraded model in the mean time?

  • What's wrong with the Zen Nano pl

I've been looking around for the MP3 player that will suit my needs.
The key features I need are...
    . Above average sound quality.
    2. Flash based.
    3. Small. Can accompany me anywhere with ease.
    4. User replaceable battery. (after few years, built-in battery will die. sending to service center for replacement is a pain in my country)
    5. The screen that let me navigate through my music files.
I've been deciding between the iPod nano and Mobiblu DAH-500i(Currently I've not enough money for the iPod nano though.). But for some reason I just want to check creative website. My last creative product was back then...... the first generation Creative Nomad Jukebox 6GB.
And I found this one, the Zen nano & Zen nano plus. This player meets all my requirements. I quickly browse CNET and PCMAG.com for the reviews of this product. Yes, they say good things about it. But the rating is somewhat low compared to other models out there. PCmag give it 3.5/5. And Cnet doesn't even have a full review for it.(only 'preview' available.)
I'm not sure if I can think this way but after reading through the 'features' page, I think this product just simply 'SHOULD BE MORE POPULAR'. It's so perfect. It fills all the holes I have in my mind about iPod nano(no drag and drop) and DAH-500i(battery life). I'm not interest in FM radio though.
So I'm starting to wonder if there's some hidden flaws about it's Forexample, is it only compatible with AAA alkaline battery but not the rechargeable AAA Ni-MH or Ni-CD battery? This thing is build of very cheap plastic? etc...
Question # Please let me know what is the 'bad' point of Zen nano/ Zen nano plus. Because I really can't find it.
Question #2 Is there a hole on the device where I can atach a lanyard?
    Thank you.

As said above, the N200 is the exact same (with some software exceptions and maybe the odd change) as the Nano Plus.
The plastic the player is made out of can be quite fragile (I've got a crack in the bottom of my player) - but it's not so fragile as the Ipod Nano seems to be (it's meant to be a magnet to scratches), it's a bit of a cheap plastic, but I'm not sure the extent of how fragile it is, though you can't literally snap it in half.
You will need to reload the firmware every so often, if you're lucky, it might be every few months, some have to do it every few weeks (It could be the luck of the draw, some people might have faulty products, but it is something that needs to be done). This usually is the fix for any random problem with the player (at least it's not always back to Creative for repair)
The Line in is pretty shoddy, don't use that. (They might have fixed it in the later versions of the firmware, not in .2)
The sound quality is well, as good as you can expect I suppose, it's not the worst thing in the world, but testing it against my cousin's Ipod Photo (I know it's not exactly a big comparrison), there's no or very little difference.
The battery is user changable, AAA batteries. There have been some cases with some rechargeables not working - that could just be the luck of the draw, or just a incompatability issue, like anything that uses batteries. However, most rechargeables should work with the player well. (I'm using rechargeables as well)
There is a hole for the laynard around the back of the player - yet I remember the hole on a user's player had broken. In Asia, the player is sold with the laynard, whereas in North America and Europe, it comes with an arm band and a rubber cover with a plastic belt clip.
The backlit buzz as mentioned above is also a problem, though on the Cnet Asia review for the N200, the claimed it wasn't audiable during music playback. Though how much it annoys you can depend on you, it's like some people can sleep with World War 3 outside, some can only sleep in perfect silence.
I'm sure there will be people with horror stories about the player, but there will always be people with horror stories about everything and anything.
Feel free to ask more questions if you want.
Although, saying that, the Samsung players are meant to be pretty good as well if you want to check them out.Message Edited by arcl on 09-26-2005 02:23 AM

Any ideas?

  • What's the "Line-in" thing for on my Zen Nano Pl

I have a Zen Nano Plus and I want to know what the "Line-in" thing is for and how do I use it's

It's for connecting a line-out level signal to for recording (this should be documented in the manual as well, although it isn't available for download at Nomadworld.com so I can't check).
A line-out level signal could be from an amplifier (e.g. a headphone socket, or even better a proper line-out level connection) or a pre-amped microphone. Be warned though, a lot of people are saying the line-in on this (and I think the predecessor MuVo N200) aren't very good.

Hi. I lost...or should I say I dropped the battery casing for my White Zen Nano Plus into the drain..*ouch* Does anyone know how I can get a replacement cover. I am living in Singapore..thanks.

Why have you bumped this - the answer given above is a good one?
Contact Support via email, tell them the clip at the end broke and they will send you out a new one. It is a known problem that these clips are weak so they don't seem to quibble about replacing them.

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

  • No connection after installing firmware 1.10.03 on brand new Zen Nano P

    Hi all,
After I installed the new firmware, .0.03, my Zen Nano Plus is no longer recognised by my computer (it seems to work fine otherwise). What should I do?
I have tried this on not just one, but three different computers, with no luck, even though all three computers recognise another Zen Nano Plus (my son's) which still runs on .03.02.
I followed the instructions for installation of new firmware, so I have installed a "Player Recovery Device", but I don't know how to access/activate it in order to get back to the older version of the firmware. As far as I can tell, the relevant page on the discussion forum
    (http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=3)
and the relevant page on the Creative Knowledge Base (SID4794) do not actually tell you how to ACCESS the recovery mode but only how to INSTALL it (whereas the info for other players, e.g. MuVo2, does tell you how to access recovery mode).
I seem to be pretty much in the situation described by "takabanana" (post dated 0-04-2006),
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/
    message?board.id=dap&message.id=9493&query.id=9573 9#M9493,
but I do not understand how he fixed his problem (What do you mean by "until it caught"? What happens when it "catches"?).
So I would be extremely happy about any advice you might have on
    - . how to get my Zen Nano Plus back to Firmware .03.02, and/or
    - 2. how to make my computer recognise my Zen Nano Plus with Firmware .0.03.
    yours, Sten

Thanks to both responses so far.
I did what PB suggested and everything is fine now (running .03.02 again).
Apart from the obvious problems with .0.03 that almost everybody seems to be having, my particular problem was that I did not understand that the Zen Nano Plus is in Recovery Mode (and thus accessible to the loading of different firmware) AS SOON AS it turns up in the Device manager as "Player Recovery Device". I thought that something more had to happen.
    yours, Sten

  • Zen Nano 1GB (not plus) not playing DRM audio bo

Okay. So I've read very similar problems here, but none quite like mine. I've read through my manual (actually, I only have the downloaded manuals, and there doesn't seem to be one for a Zen Nano GB... It's not a Plus and it's not a Nano 52MB).
My whole reason for purchasing my Nano was b/c it can play DRM audio files & I want to listen to audio book downloads.
In any case, I know not to drop and drag my DRM files, that won't work.
I got a (refurbished, works fine) Zen Nano GB a few weeks go. If I drag and drop regular mp3 or WMA audio files, they work fine. If I sync regular song files with WMP, they work fine.
It's the DRM files I'm having problems with. I tried sync-ing with WMP , (after opening the DRM file and obtaining the license (these are audio books from NetLibrary.com, and I've followed their instructions as well as those for the Nano). Once I've obtained the license, I sync. The audio book appears on the Nano, but will not play.
I tried updating (or, perhaps it was downgrading) the firmware, and then used WMP 9 to sync, and managed to get one audio book to play. I thought I was ready to go. It was awesome. The whole book played and I enjoyed it.... but... once I finished the book, and re-synced and tried to add a new book.... nothing.
I've re-installed various versions of firmware, tried on WMP and WMP 9 AND tried using Creative's own software to sync (after opening the files in WMP and obtaining the license)... Nothing. Lots of wasted time, tho.
I'm not quite a newbie with mp3 players or computers, but I am capable of "missing" something.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide & please let me know if I forgot anything specific that could aid in any solutions,
    MomLikesMusic (and audio books!)

To "downgrade" firmware (I don't have any idea if that's what it's really called, it's certainly not an upgrade!):
Through another posting on this message board, I found a link to this site:
    http://dapjukebox.altervista.org/mod...ownload&cid=85
which has other firmware versions available (some are still on the Creative downloads page as well, but the oldest ones are not). The site seems to be in Italian (?).
I downloaded and saved (and virus-scanned) the firmware of _0_02.
Then, I followed the installation instructions from another firmware download from Creative:
"To install this firmware, do the following:
    1. Download the [_0_02] file into your local hard disk.
    2. Make sure your player is connected to your computer.
    3. Double-click the downloaded file.
    4. If you are prompted to reset your player, click OK.
    5. If the Find New Hardware dialog box appears on the computer screen, follow the instructions on the screen to complete the wizard.
    6. When the firmware download dialog box appears, click Start and follow the instructions on the screen."
Because I had nothing on my player, I didn't have anything to lose, data-wise. And it worked. One of these days I may try to upgraded the firmware to see if I can still transfer...
I saved a few other firmware downloads (updates) to try in the future -- rather than go hunting for them again.
Please note, the Nano I have isn't listed in the Creative products -- the one I have says Creative Zen Nano GB on it; no where can I find such a thing. Since it's a factory refirbished model I bought off e-bay, I suspected older firmware may work on it... If you have a newer model, it may not work. I'm not an expert (this whole MP3 stuff still boggles my 37-year-old mind sometimes), so be careful what you do to your player!
    Good luck,

  • Cant format/scandisk Zen nano p

    Hello
I'm from Italy. I have a Zen Nano plus Giga since month and it worked well, till now.
Today I disconnected it while transferring a file and the flash memory was corrupted. My firmware is .3.05e and I never tried to update it.
I have Windows98-SE with media storage drivers _07_00_250 downloaded from this site because, even if the box says "win98 compatible" the installation CD refused to run because "this software cant run on windows98" (?!?)
The problem is I cant reformat the player, nor use the scandisk to fix it. In both cases, windows hangs during the operations. I have tried this on 3 different computers, all of them have win98 (with creative drivers) giving the same results. In the past, all of these computers were used to write and read files into the player without problems...
The manual says a driver is needed to format ZEN using win 98, but I think it's talking about the same drivers to read/write the player I'm already have, I'm right?
Also, notice the "format" panel in win98 doesn't let user select the format type (there aren't the voices FAT, FAT32 ecc)
    What can I do? Tanks.
    Alberto.

    I returned it...
I changed it with a Packard Bell Giga FM... just to discover it's near the same machine!
Yes, outside they may look different and the display is very different.
But functions (and defects) are the same:
    Let's compare them... They have:
    -both 20 preset for radio.
-both the FM radio recording capability AS A 4 BIT WAV (what a strange coincidence...)
-both a Equalizer who works with mp3 songs but NOT with the radio.
-both the same system to skip folders
-both a build-in microphone with the same two folders to keep wav files
-both act like as memory pen using the same manner
-both have exactly the same way to update the firmware
...and there are a lot of other coincidences...
Most of all, looking at the Packard Bell support forum, I discover a place very similiar to this, with people facing EXACTLY the same problems like here: the player shut-off on the boot, OR the memory cant read/write OR the player was "killed" during a firmware update.
After some research, I discovered the reason for this.
Creative, Packard Bell (and most of brands, I think) are using the EXACTLY THE SAME mp3 chip made in China. This chip incorporate all the functions you need, you have only to add a nice box around adding the display and the mass memory you prefer... the chinese software is complete: you only need to add a menu to show (or hide, i'm afraid) the functions of this chip...
I'm afraid people waiting for "open source" or waiting for significati've improvements in firmware will wait forever...because the seller don't owns the real core of the firmware, as you see...
Also, people always asking "who sounds better" will be happy to know they all sound well in the same manner
Compared with other players, the NANO looks "cool" and have the "line-in" function carried out... And this is all, folks!
...if only they let me to restore the original firmware I was happy to keep my NANO, but I need the radio recording and the new firmware removes it...
    what a pity...
    Bye and greetings from Italy,
    Alberto.
