Losy images after importing Word document into RoboHelp 7 HTML

We imported a simple Word document into RoboHelp 7 HTML, as a
new project (from scratch).
Everything worked out pretty well (afterall, this was just a
simple Word document), and we expect to have to tweak the styles,
etc. That is understood.
However, the images that were embedded in the Word document
(as opposed to saved to disk, and only linked to the Word document)
do not look very nice in the RoboHelp 7 HTML project topics.
When we browse to the iamge folder, and view the actual image
files, these images do not look too bad. But in the Design View,
the images have display issues (solid color bars on the
sides/top/bottom of the images). When we compile to a Single Source
Layout (except PDF), the images look fine again. When we create
Printed Documentation, even for the best PDF-settings, the images
look terrible -- smudgy, like low resolution quality).
1) Except for storing the images outside of the Word document
before importing, and then manually linking them back into the
imported RoboHelp HTML files, is there a way to maximize the
quality of the imported Word images in RoboHelp HTML?
2) Why doe the images look worse in Printed Documenation
(PDF), even for the highest PDF settings, than for the other Single
Source Layouts?
While I am typing, I realized that we should try to include
the images in Word via a link to the image files on disk. Perhaps
then RoboHelp will not actually modify the image files during
import. I will report back about this one.
Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Looks perfect, works terribly...
Things to consider:
Chances are, the different treatments of the space are due to whether the space was included in the bolding of the word in MS Word.
Additionally, since Word files contain much underlying binary code (macros and such), your security settings might or might not be playing well with the Word stuff.
Are you importing the Word file from a network location, or from your local machine? Network traffic might be partially impacting the import, too.
Bottom line? You'll probably need to clear all formatting in the Word file and redo the formatting properly. To test this, cut a couple of pages into a new Word file, clear and redo the formatting in Word, import the Word file into another RH project, and see what results you get.
To clear the formatting:
Select text.
On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Clear Formatting.
Redo the formatting, being careful to not format the spaces.
Good luck,
Leon

  • Missing spaces between words after importing Word document into RoboHelp HTML version 8

I created a 400+ page document in Word 2007 and imported it into RoboHelp 8 (HTML, not RoboHelp for Word). In many places, the space between a bold word and a non-bold word is no longer there. I would like to avoid having to go through the entire RH document to replace the spaces manually. Did I import incorrectly?

  • Importing Word documents into Robohelp 8: topic content is in a text box

    Hi
I think I am doing standard stuff, but I have never used the import from Word function in RoboHelp before...
I used  file > import to import a Word document, paginating on heading1 and heading2. All is fine, except that all the text of every topic is contained within a text box.
Can I stop this happening? (Or fix it easily?)
(I hope it is not relevant, and don't want to go into this unless it is relevant: but the Word document was actually the printed output from another RoboHelp project.)
    Thanks and regards,
    Peter Braham

What I am thinking is that any Word import needs some cleaning up and the HTML is generally not good, blame Word for that. By importing the topics, you avoid that.
The document is not exactly tagged as "from RH" and other products may well create documents in the same way. Bottom line is the way the document is created in Word seems to mean you get this problem in RH. It would probably be quite easy to find a workaround for that but you are still left with a Word import rather than a better RH import.
These forums will testify to the number of problems Word imports can cause because of Word's code.

  • Problems importing a Word doc into Robohelp HTML

    I have a 116-page Word document with 13 chapters. When I
import this document into Robohelp HTML as a winhelp output file,
only two topics are created, rather than 13. On the Conversion
Options window, I select to have new topics created by Word style
"Heading 1" which are my chapter titles. Why doesn't Robohelp
create the topics, and what should I change to faciliate that?
Also, why don't my numbered lists from Word stay numbered in
Robohelp? Is there a way to automate numbered lists?

    Thanks for your reply.
When I insert .gif files JDeveloper ends with a message saying "Process exited with exit code 0". I then go and check in the database and I find the image added to the table.
With a word doc, JDeveloper does not give that message. No message at all regarding what the status of the process is. And the document is not added to the database. No error messages too. Could this be an issue with Oracle?

  • Headings are getting bookmarked while importing word document to Robohelp 9

HI everyone. Easter wishes in advance.
I have a problem while importing word document to Robohelp.
    Version - MS Word 2010
    Robohelp 9
While I import word document to Robohelp after mapping styles, my heading styles are getting tagged as bookmarks in RH.
I have customized word template along with customized RH css.
How can I prevent the headings (all the heading level used in a document) getting tagged as bookmark after I import word docs to RH.
If there is no solution is there any solution to remove bookmarks at one go from RH.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The quickest way to resolve this is to create a new project and import a document that causes this problem. Zip up the project and document and send it to me via my site so that I can take a look.
You can strip out any confidential content and it only needs to be a document short enough to show the problem.

  • Converting Word Document into Robohelp format

I am new at Robohelp and have been recently assigned a task to convert several Word documents into Robohelp using version 9 of RoboHelp. Can someone please direct me in the right direction (location, URL, tutorials etc.) to find some step-by-step help, it would be most appreciative

    Hi Michael.
Rick asked that question because there IS a method of linking a Word file to a Robohelp project and bringing in any changes to them. It was designed exactly for the scenario where a SME or client writes the content and someone else just acts as a kind of content curator. However if you just want to import the Word file, this is fine also but you'll need to understand that once the content is in RoboHelp, the content would need to be changed in Robohelp.
There is a good tutorial on the benefits of both linking and importing over on Peter Grainge's website (see the link below). This is a very useful resource for all things RoboHelp and well worth bookmarking.

  • After importing word document in RH 9, why does the position of image changes

    Hi All,
I have a document which i need to import in RH9. However when i imported the document, the position of the images on my first page changed.
i read several discussion, but could nt get any relevant suggestion.
the first page of my document has company logo and a text box on its left but when i am importing, the image is displayed separately and text box is displayed after the image. the first page is my cover page thats the reason it has text box.
Now can anyone please tell me how i can club the text box and image on a single htm.Robohelp also converts the text box and its data to an image format.
Thanks for your time and consideration

    Hi there
As you have seen, RoboHelp doesn't understand how to create the layers you are wanting to achieve the effect in Word. It simply brings the images in as separate objects.
Basically there are two approaches you might consider.
You could insert Positioned Text Boxes and configure them to present the images as you want. If you take this approach, you will likely find yourself struggling to maintain the positioning consistently as well as noticing text flow issues. Personally, I'd avoid that approach.
The other approach involves displaying the images in your Word document so that you see them as intended, then screen capture so you grab the combined image. Then save that combined image and use it instead of the separate images in RoboHelp. This is the approach I'd suggest and that I use myself.

  • Trouble with CHM Search & Index after Importing Word Document

    Greetings,
I have recently inherited all things RoboHelp at work, but the last person to work with our projects left 6 months ago.  I received a brief overview of how our CHM files were generated from the same word document in RH HTML 7.
Currently, I am using RoboHelp HTML 9, but am having trouble with the Index and Search functionality from an imported Word 2003 (.doc) file.  During my import, only a single topic is created and named after the source document.  I believe this may be the root of my problems, but haven't had much luck with a solution.
I have stumbled my way through setting after setting, but feel I am missing something obvious.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ken
    Background:
Our source documents have a working TOC and Heading 1-3 structure.  When creating a new project and importing the document, the TOC is imported correctly.  The TOC navigations links seem to function correctly.
I have used the Smart Index Wizard to find new keywords from topic titles and topic text.  Unfortunately it seems the import only creates a single topic named after the source word document and therefore associates all keywords with the single topic.  when trying to navigate the index after the CHM is generated, all links simply reference the beginning of the document.
When using the search feature in the CHM, only a single result is returned for any search words.  This result is always the single topic as described above.  The results link always returns you to the start of the document but does highlight the keyword throughout the document.

When you import there is an Advanced button in one of the dialogs. Click that and you will be able to Paginate against chosen styles. That will break your document into topics.

  • Hyperlinking across Word documents into RoboHelp

I hope this is in the right forum ...
I author documentation in Microsoft Word and then import into RoboHelp HTML (v11 & generating in the Multiscreen HTML5 layout).
I have multiple word documents and a lot of hyperlink in those word documents.
Some documents have hyperlinks that reference locations in different documents.
At the moment, when I import Word documents, the hyperlinks that reference locations in a different document break (dont work) which causes a great deal of work for me to find and fix.
Is it possible to have a hyperlink in Document A link to a spot in Document B and have it stil work after the documents have been imported?

In short, no there isn't Kate. When a Word file is imported, the content is built into one or more .HTM files. The link in the word file at the point it is converted may not know what file name will be created, especially if the referenced section comes after the link.

  • Importing Word Documents to RoboHelp 7 HTML

    Hi,
We are using RoboHelp 7 HTML for our project requirements.
The approach we adopted is as follows -
1.) Develop content in MS Word 2003 with proper formatting
including the styles defined for tables, fonts, paragraphs, various
levels of headings etc. We will have high number of word documents
which need to be reviewed by the SMEs before putting them in
    RoboHelp.
2.) Copy the content to RoboHelp. We are using the File >
Import > Word Document. We find the following issues in the word
    documents thus imported -
a.) Formatting errors like the font of the numbered list is
not consistent. The numbers have a different font while the ontent
    has a different font.
b.) The content in Tables is also not properly indented. It
    touches the borders.
c.) Foreign characters are being introduced wherever
double-quotes are used. Eg: ”r;Other” (it should have
    been "Other")
How do we address the above-listed issues? How do we get the
same output in RoboHelp as can be seen in the formatted word
document? Do you suggest any better alternative?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anil

1] Yes. Non-RH users develop the content.
2a & 2b] What I have noticed is that the numbers appear
in Times New Roman while the content appears in Arial after
importing. As mentioned, we have lot of documentation (many word
documents). So each word doc I import, a CSS gets generated and
editing them itself is a herculean task. Is there any work around
this so that we can gain time and carry out the import smoothly?
2c] Could not find the patch in your website. One of your
posts says that it is Item 21. But cannot find any downloadable
    link.
As suggested I tried reading the article in Printed
Documentation. But really didn't know which one you were referring
    to.
    Regards,
    Anil

  • Error on Importing Word document into RH7

I am attempting to import Word docs into RoboHelp7.  The first several documents are imported and saved into the project without incident. However, one file causes an error: "An error occurred while trying to save data to : <RH project name> <5>.  The same error occurs each time I attempt to import this particular file; the error message will not disappear when I click on OK and whole project has to be closed.  Thank you.

    Colum,
Thank you for your prompt response.  I tried importing sections of the word document as you suggested, but I was not able to isolate the error. I confess that after repeated errors and shutdowns, I discontinued this troubleshooting, lest it cause any damage to the original project files.
Instead, I opened a new project, and imported the Word doc into that project.   Then I imported these HTML files into my main project. It was not graceful, but the end result is good, with all the links and formatting preserved.
As other Word docs have since been imported into this project without incident, perhaps it was a fluke/bug in this one document.
I appreciate your help in resolving the situation.
    Thank you.

  • Re-importing word document into existing project

    2. I imported a Word (Windows XP) doc to create my robohelp
    project.
I am new to RoboHelp, so please bear with me...
I had imported a word document into a project for HTML Help.
I had mapped some IDs to create context sensitive help to work with
our application. When the word doc is updated and I re-import it,
the topics are duplicated in the TOC. (I normally get updates of
this document from another department and we need to convert it to
    HMTL help for our application).
How do I fix this or prevent this from happening? (Other than
delete the old project, create a new project, and import updated
word document since I would have to remap all the IDs again.)
    Thank you for your help.

Sorry, I have to disagree with your estimate, for the main
reason that all those reviewers will be manipulating the Word
document with their own formatting quirks, which will only serve to
corrupt the doc file and make its repeated importation increasingly
    problematic.
Remember, you're looking to convert a binary file with tons
of macros into HTML code, essentially a flat text file. I suspect
that remapping the IDs will end up being the least of your problems
as you go further into repeated review cycles.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • File names after importing word document

I'm creating webhelp by importing word document. My help is in two languages and yes i have two word documents. To keep the html filenames same for every same topic in english and arabic. I change the file names. Now i want save this setting for the project so while importing the documents again I should be able to reuse this changing filenames. So that it can be life saver for me by not repeating to change the filenames again.

Thinking about this some more, I don't think the feature will do what you want. The filename and any formula will work according to how you paginate and will create a filename based on the heading. That will, I assume, differ from language to language.
The only thing I can think of experimenting with is to have the headings in language one in all documents with the other language being below but not as a heading. Post import you could amend the Topic Title and Topic Heading but leave the filename. It's klunky but the best I can think of right now.

  • Import InDesign files into RoboHelp HTML

    Hello,
My company is moving toward online help. We currently use InDesign to author our manuals and then export them to pdf for publication. I've been on the phone with Adobe trying to see if there's a way to easily import InDesign into RoboHelp. We're on an older version of RoboHelp, so I'm told this is possible, but I can't get any help until we buy RoboHelp9. I know that we can import our pdfs into RoboHelp--I'm just wondering if there's a way to import InDesign files directly into RoboHelp. Has anyone tried to do this? Anyone have any suggestions? It seems these two programs should play nice together, doesn't it?
    Louley

    Hi there
To my knowledge it is not possible to accomplish. I've been using RoboHelp since 1992 and I've never seen it done.
The only way I can fathom it working would be if InDesign could save as an HTML page. Then import the HTML. Or possibly produce a PDF from InDesign, then import that. But even importing the PDF may not give you the results you want.
