Lot of web pages now coming up with text looking jumbled or on top of each other. same page is ok in other browsers. any ideas? thanks

The web site you link to looks normal in my Safari, but it looks like your screenshot when I increase the text size one increment using the View menu "Make Text Bigger" command (or with the keyboard shortcut using Command and the plus symbol). That's a flaw in the design of many web pages: too rigid a design, i.e. lack of fluidity, such that user changes (like increasing text size) distorts the layout.
If you increase the text size on a web page using that menu command or keyboard shortcut, closing the page and opening a new page or tab in Safari should return the text size to normal, even when you return to the same web site. So this shouldn't continue if you inadvertently made the text size change.
If you didn't change the text size, have you used any other methods to change the way text is displayed in Safari? Any Safari enhancers or add-ons, or a user style sheet specified in Safari -> Preferences, Advanced?

Mail attachments showing up as jumbled text

Starting about a month ago, my school's IMAP account in Mail will randomly show just jumbled text when there should be an attachment, and I have to go onto the webmail server to download the attachment. It doesn't happen with my gmail POP account, so I don't know if it's a problem with IMAP versus POP, or a problem with the university's server, or something else.
Any ideas on what I can do to stop this from happening?
EDIT: I have the IMAP account set up on both my iBook and iMac. Oddly, I just noticed that one of the emails that showed the attachment as a jumbled mess of text on my iMac, showed up as the correct excel file attachment on my iBook. Looking back, this seems to happen every once in a while, but usually if one computer shows the attachment as jumbled text, the other does as well.

I don't have an answer but I came here with the same issue. Everyone at my office (20 or so) uses Apple Mail with our Communigate Pro server via IMAP, but I'm the only one who consistently has this problem. I resolved it once by connecting from home over the Internet - all the broken mails fixed themselves by being re-downloaded. However this eats up bandwidth that we can't really spare.

Why do I get jumbled text when pasting a graph from Excel (mac 2011) into Illustrator cs6

The Goal: To copy a graph from Excel (mac 2011) and paste it into Illustrator cs6 as a vector graphic.
The graph's vector and layout is okay. Yet, the text / copy is jumbled text:

In Excel, right click and choose Format Chart Area. In the dialog at the left, choose Fonts. Change the font to Arial or something other than Calibri (Theme Body). Then copy/paste.

Jumbled Text in PDF Graph Output

Hi there,
I have an unnusual problem with one of my BI Publisher templates. The template is an RTF Template and I'm trying to output to PDF. I'm using an external font which I have added to the two font folders on the BI Server and added the mappings in the BI Publisher admin tab.
The template is set up as follows; page 1 of the template gives a summary for all data. It contains a table with four graphs below. Page two is in a for-each group and is identical in every way to page 1, other than it regroups the data by a particular field.
The summary page displays fine, from what I can tell the external fonts embed correctly into the PDF (If I do Properties -> Fonts in the PDF the font is there as embedded. The problem is that the first graph on each page after the first has jumbled text. For example, page 1 the graph is titled *"Performance Summary"*, on page 2 this is *"Pfymtyparcf R ppay"*, page 3 is *"AeufruoSpae PooSu"*. The legend, title and axis lables are all like this. All other graphs are fine. There is a pattern to what is happening, for instance the axis on page 1 is 1-Sep 2-Sep 3-Sep 4-Sep... on page 2 this is )%Rfu -%Rfu 0%Rfu 3%Rfu and on page 3 it is )%Pet -%Pet 0%Pet 3%Pet.
If I remove the first graph from the 2nd page, then this issue affects the second graph, if I remove the 1st and 2nd graphs, it affects the 3rd graph and so on. The XML for the graphs on page 2 is a copy of that from page 1 so I know it's not an issue with that. As there is a pattern to the jumbled-up-ness I suspect that it's a problem with BIP greating the glyphs in the PDF but I have no idea how to go about solving this.
Another interesting thing is if I look at the fonts in the PDF file, along with my embedded fonts, there are a series of T3Font_0, T3Font_1,...,T3Font_12 fonts. These are the ones in use in the graphs.
Any help with be much appreciated.

I've worked around the issue by removing the external font from the graphs, however I would still like to understand why OBIEE fails to embed external fonts correctly in my reports.

Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...

Jumbled text in web interface after updating Web Services / firmware

I got a message on the screen of my Officejet 6700:
Update Recommended
An update is available for Web Services (ePrint and Apps).

I selected Update Now, and it installed fine, or so I thought.
I checked the web interface for the printer, and find there is a bunch of jumbled text, like the code is messed up for the web server.
I had just finished checking the status of ink cartridges (and subsequently replaced one), therefore I fortunately still have the fully functioning webpage open on another machine, so I can tell exactly what the before-and-after is on that one page.
On the Tools > Ink Gauge page, on the good (old) page the table says (title, first row, first column):

I went to the support section, and found a firmware update, but upon downloading and running it, upon finding the printer, it says it is already Up-to-date, and won't let me select it to try and re-apply the firmware update (as that's evidently what going through the touchscreen menu has already done).
Do I need to just restore to factory settings? I would think firmware wouldn't be changed by doing that. There isn't an old version of the firmware available on the product support page, to revert to an older version.
Via the printer touchscreen menu, a printed Printer Status Report says the firmware version is MPM3CN1322DR.
How do I force a re-install of the firmware, or get them to fix the firmware that was published on 2013-06-25?

You are unable to revert back or reinstall the firmware since it has already been downloaded and updated.
Have you attempted to use a different web browser?

When I send inline photos, recipients receive jumbled text file. What setting do I need to change?

When I send inline (embedded) photos, along with text; my recipients say they only receive a jumbled text file. Is there a setting within TB I can change to correct this? See below:

Currently I can only input such information in usage text and it keep in table DFKKZP.

The event 0020 doesn't have T_FKKZP. Is it the event that you are referring or some thing else?

I too have a similar kind of requirement. The value that is entered in DFKKZP-INFOF need to be populated into DFKKOP-OPTXT. Though you are getting the value of DFKKZP through the global variable, where you are modifying the DFKKOP? Are you doing this modification in some other event?

Resulting Word File Contains All Jumbled Text?

Just uploaded and converted my file using ExportPDF. Word file was created without issue. When it is opened all styles are maintained but text is jumbled:

Lots of 0kB text files in home directory

I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.2. Last week, I had a hard drive corruption and restored my MB Pro from a Time machine backup and the Lion Startup partition. While I was fortunate that only a days worth of data was lost, all has not been completely smooth.
1) There are a lot of text files of 0 kB with either no name or non-sensical names beginning with a percent sign and other non-sensical characters (e.g. %E1%DB %F6ޝo^%EF%FEۆ%83%A7wkx8) in my home directory /Users/isaac.
2) The 500 GB partition that I have been using for Time Machine to back up the internal 320 GB hard disk is now not large enough to back up the volume. There is only one backup on the drive (the one I used to restore), but Time Machine won't complete the backup although there is 197.5 GB available. I thought that time machine didn't make complete backups and wondered why this has become a problem after the recent re-install.
There have been some runaway processes that I can't isolate that heat up the computer (72 F) and start the fan a whirring 4400 rpm.
I don't know if these are related to previous kernel panics that would intermittenly freeze and crash my Mac (the ciscovpn agent seemed to be the process that was always the final process before the crash), but I thought I'd mention them anyway.
Are these issues foreshadowing future doom?

Sounds like TM wasn't able to figure out what happened. When you did the restore, the disk got a new UUID (Universally Unique IDentifier), that OSX uses to keep track of drives (rather than the name). So it's treated as a different drive. Ordinarily, when you do a restore, it leaves a "trail" so Time Machine can automatically connect the "new" drive to the old backups. Sometimes, though, it doesn't.
You may be able to get it to "associate" the "new" disk with the backups, per #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

Jumbled Text in Browsers (Safari & Firefox) - MySpace?

Something odd is happening on my iBook, running Tiger, 10.4.10 - using Safari and Firefox ...
On certain pages, especially MySpace Photos pages, the text is jumbled. Characters are replaced with signs like '$' and '&' ... screenshot here:

Jason, Try the following:
1) Quit all open applications.
2) If you have 'Helvetica Fractions', 'Times Phonetic' or 'Rougue Stencil-Type' fonts installed, delete them.
3) Delete your fonts caches with *Font Finagler*, FontNuke or OnyX +(or with whatever utility you normally use)+
*Font Finagler <http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/> (this is the BEST application)*

4) Restart your Mac
5) Open your Font Book->Edit menu 'Select All' fonts - from the File menu select 'Validate Fonts'

Jumbled text using PrintWriter

Hi,
I'm using an instance of PrintWriter to occassionally output text to a file, but the text ends up messy and jumbled up.
Not on character level but text is not appended in a synchronous way. Things I outputted earlier gets overwritten and text written just before program termination ends up at the beginning of the file etc. I use print(...) and have tried flushing after each call to print, to no avail.
I'm not using any threads and there's just one object accessing the text file...
Any ideas what's causing this?

JUmbled text in Safari, and it runs off the page and behind images

i have a really annoying problem that is only happening in Safari under every user on my computer.
I have been to the Apple store and they have tried to fix it, but it perplexed everyone there I guess,
either that or the fact that it was 8:30 and they close at 9... go figure. Anyways- When in Safari on
certain websites that are heavier on text the words displayed in the headlines or body copy overlap, become jumbled, and run off the page.
As I am typing this it is not letting my words wrap to the next line in the text box, I have to hit enter
everytime I want to go to a new line. This problem is getting so annoying, and I am on the brink of
switching to Firefox but I love Safari so much more. Can someone please help? I have already look
at the " never display fonts larger than____ option" I am hopelessly in need of some advice. Thanks

How do I cure jumbled text on some pages

Occasional web pages I view have some of the text overwritten by other text making it dificult to read or illegible. Can send screenshot.

If you have made changes to Advanced font settings like increasing the minimum/default font size then try the default minimum setting "none" and the default font size 16 in case the current setting is causing problems.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but to use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with text not being displayed properly.
You can use the NoSquint extension to set font size (text/page zoom) and text color on web pages.

Best compression for video with a lot of static text and graphics

Hello! I am producing an instructional DVD and am getting ready to output the files and was wondering what the best compression format would be for me to use.
About 1/3 of the clips consist of video shot in SD with very little movement (guy sitting at a desk talking to the camera.) The rest contains graphics created in After Effects and then imported back into Final Cut. The graphics are primarily text based, and don't change too often. There are some still images as well, but they are static for the most part save for some occasional panning. Oh, and the total length of all the video clips is about 70 minutes.
I would like to compress these videos so as to get the best possible quality in the text. I did a few tests, but the quality in the letters seemed a little worse than I had hoped. Is this just going to be an inevitability I have to live with, or is there a particular setting that would help me out?

You know--I really have no idea why I didn't do it that way. I exported uncompressed files from After Effects and then imported them into FCP; some of the files are huuuge, like 60 GB+
I think in the next version of this I will probably just edit in FCP then import it into AE, and then export from there. As it stands though, I've sort of made some changes and done stuff in FCP after importing the clips, so I'd like to just export using Compressor.
So are you saying it's better to export uncompressed from FCP and then import that into Compressor and go from there? I've been just selecting the 'Export Using Compressor' option in FCP and going from there...
