Lot of time when Datasource is loaded
I develop a Struts Application that access a App Server managed DataSource. Sun ONE App Server let me create a datasource, but when i access it for the very first time it takes a lot of time.
I'm running a unique AppServer with 7 Jakarta Struts applications. I configure 4 Datasources with a min connection set of 8 (default value) and a max o 20 (default) but when i stop and start my server it takes about 45 mins to get ready.
I'm using Oracle 9.2.0.5 and its JDBC Driver (ojdbc14.jar) running in a diferent machine.
Anyone can tell me why it takes so long ? In the development environment I run my test in a Tomcat Server and it takes a few seconds to start.
There are lots of possibilities; the top one that springs to my mind is that you have some sort of name resolution (DNS) problem on the problem host. Another is that your application doesn't have enough memory, either physical on the box (causing swap thrash) or in the JVM (causing excess garbage collection).
Assuming you're using recent Solaris (10) and Java, then Sun's dtrace tool is allegedly the best way to dig into such problems; at JavaOne this year, Sun offered a free iPod to anyone who submitted a working project that couldn't be significantly improved by dtrace profiling - they gave away one iPod.
http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/javaone_challenge.jsp
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/xperts/sessions/13_dtrace/
If that's not an option, then you can use truss, vmstat, iostat, or mpstat to see if there's some system resource that's the limiting factor; if not, it's something on the net, a concurrency/locking issue or something else in the Java world. I've seen startup problems related to the inability to fetch DTDs over the network, but in those cases the application ultimately fails after "hanging" for a long time...

FETCH is taking lot of time when executing the program
Hi,
A program is lot of time in production though code looks ok.
Only one select statement is there which fetches data from BKPF.
Cost of the statement is as below:
SELECT STATEMENT ( Estimated Costs = 51 , Estimated #Rows = 1 )
2 TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID BKPF
( Estim. Costs = 51 , Estim. #Rows = 1 )
Estim. CPU-Costs = 1,938,416 Estim. IO-Costs = 51
Filter Predicates
1 INDEX RANGE SCAN BKPF~Z1
( Estim. Costs = 51 , Estim. #Rows = 1 )
Search Columns: 4
Estim. CPU-Costs = 1,936,841 Estim. IO-Costs = 50
Access Predicates Filter Predicates
And in Se30 Execution time in Data base is 98.7% and Abap is 1.2%
When I checked the Trace I found that the 2,487,732 & 84720,805 secs is being taken in the FETCH stage.
27 BKPF REOPEN 0 SELECT WHERE "MANDT" = '600' AND "GJAHR" = 2003 AND "BUKRS" = '0301' AND "BLART" = 'ZA' AND "BUDAT" = 20030319 AND "STBLG" = ' '
2,487,732 BKPF FETCH 406 0
84,720,805 BKPF FETCH 377 1403
Can you please let me know what wrong in this? And what can I do to tune this fetch statement?
Regards,
PoojaHi,
so we can only use
(MANDT)?
BUKRS
BLART
as access predicates and
STBLG
as filter predicate.
BUDAT schould be part of the access predicates i think.
Watch out for an index where BUDAT can be used as access predicate....
Kind regards,

Firefox hangs up at times when I try to download a file. The hangup is evidenced by the Windows 7 spinning blue cursor going into an endless loop. The only way out if it is with "ctrl/alt/del". Sometimes I can cancel, and Firefox will be normal again, and other times I have to go on into "Taskmaster" and stop the process.
Similar problem. An Email includes a URL, clicking on brings up a message including "click here" to link to an additional site.
This bring up either the Windows7 rotating cursor and/or the message "stopped".
I copied the "click here" address (another URL) and pasted it into the IE8 browser, which succeeded in displaying the information. It worked, to my surprise but it is clumsy. Do I have to remove Firefox (3.6.6) and use only IE8?
Another system on my home network, using XP Home SP2, and FF 3.6.4 works fine in the same circumstances -
How to trigger process chain when datasource is loaded with new data? PUSH
Hi all,
Till now we use the pull method to load data in BW which is done manually......but we would like to work with the PUSH method where whenever new data is loaded in the datasource an event is triggered which inturn triggers the process chain...
how is this possible? can we do this on a timestamp on the datasource to trigger the event?
rgds,
willshi Geo,
Thanks for ur response. I appreciate it.
The case is slightly different. I am working on Bank analyzer data which is residing in a source system defined to load the results from the Results DataBase, a part of the Bank analyzer.
If it was R3 we have the standard calling procedures...but now the data in not in R3 but in Bank analyzer.
I am keen to look at some procedure to push the data automatically whenever an end user execution is done at the BA level into the BW.
ur help would be highly appreciated....
thks,
rgds.

when I backup with time machine it makes my backup disk read only and OSX wants me to reformat my backup drive.
Why? A bug with an expected fix?blinkable wrote:
I don't have auto backup turn on for Time Machine. If I don't have Time Machine on, do I still have to perform the Terminal function of "sudo tmutil disablelocal"?
No, as you notice in this screenshot, "backups" is Zero. This is where local snapshots would be stored.
My other question is that is it ok or advisable to delete apps that are pre-installed when we first received the MBA? I noted there are quite a number of apps that may not be of use (especially those under the Utilities folder) but pre-installed. In the event that I have uninstalled/deleted these pre-installed apps is there any way to restore or download them?? Are these apps the ones that are taking up the space under Other or they will just fall under Apps section?
You can delete the Apps. You can reinstall them at any time by inserting disc 2 (the applications disc that came with your mac). I don't use GarageBand or iMovie, so I deleted them. Apps just fall under the "Apps" category. I qquestioned the Genius Bar as to what is in "other" and they said it is impossible to say exactly what is in that category, it is slightly different for each user. It does include the operating system among other things. They told me to thing of it as an "etcetera" category. -
Taking lot of time for loading
Hi,
We are loading data from HR to BI. Connection between HR and BI has been done recently. When I am trying to load data from HR to BI it taking lot of time--for example to load 5recs its taking 8hrs. Its same for every datasource. Should we change anything in settings to makes IDOCS work proper? ThanksYou have to isolate the part that is taking the time.
- Is R/3 extraction quick? (You can check with RSA3 and see how long does it take.)
- If R/3 extraction is slow, then is the selection using an index? How many records are there in the table / view?
- Is there a user exit? Is user exit slow?
You can find out using monitor screen:
- After R/3 extraction completed, how long did it take to insert into PSA?
- How long did it take in the update rules?
- How long did it take to activate?
Once you isolate the problem area, post your findings here and someone will help you. -

Sun Studio 12 takes lot of time to startup
Hi,
When I try to use sunstudio 12 on a Solaris 10 U6 x86 box, it takes ages to open the UI window.
The window kind of hung state with out any messges showing in it until it comes up with full screen.
Debugging from sunstudio takes lot of time when we try step to the code.
Is this a known issue?. Any workaround?.
The Solaris system has 8GB RAM and plenty of disk space.
ThanksThank you for the report! No, it is not a known issue.
I use Sun Studio IDE on Solaris 10 x86 system with 2 Gb memory.
Its responsiveness is ok (though sometimes it parses my projects
for 10-20 seconds, but it happens only 2-3 times per day).
The "startup" time is about 20-30 seconds.
Let's try to find out what is the problem on your system.
Can you run "sunstudio" under "truss -d" and look at the log file?
Here is the command:
truss -d -a -e -f -o ss.tr sunstudio --userdir /tmp/newuserdir It will create a log file "ss.tr" in current directory. Open it in a text editor,
and look for long actions. Probably there is something in your HOME
directory, that causes these delays.
If you don't see anything suspicious, let me know. I'll take a look at the
log file (though it can be several Mb, so we have to find out how to send it).
Thanks,

Application takes lot of time for first time..
Hai guys,
we made an application on a 3rd party software for use on a tool which connects to SAP with RFC.
the applicaiton updates ORACLE databse after getting relevant information from SAP.
Now,for information on SAP side we have RFC.
for updates on oracle we write SQL.
the unique problem is..this applicaiton takes lot of time when used the first time..
once the first use is over it takes much lesser time for any subsequent use(by any user)..
I DOUBT THE SQLS(ESP UPDATE) TAKE MUCH TIME THE FIRST TIME.I DOUBT THE SQLS(ESP UPDATE) TAKE MUCH TIME THE FIRST TIME.
Why don't you trace the call and be sure? Don't guess.
once the first use is over it takes much lesser time for any subsequent use(by any user)..
Because the statement is in the cursor cache - clear the cache each time and the statement will run long every time. Again, trace the call and determine the issue - most likely you need an index or have an improperly coded SELECT statement. -
Enhancement of the datasource is taking lot of time

we enhanced the datasource 0employee_attr almost 35 fileds but every thing fine when we are loading it taking almost 20hrs . these reports are using every day .how to reduce the loading time .iam not written any routines i thought its happened in R/3 side because lot of select statement.can any one suggest me on this issue.

Loading into the Infipackages takes lot of time
Hi Friends,
When i schedule and activate the process chain everyday, it takes lot of time to get loaded in the infopackages, around 5 to 6 hours.
in st13 when i click on the Log id name to see the process chain.
in the LOAD DATA infopackage it shows green, after double clicking on that, process moniter
i see request still running and its yellow but 0 from 0 records.
and this will be the same for hours
Its very slow.
need your guidence on this
Thanks for your help.Hi,
What are you trying to load using this process chain? If it is cube, are you deleting the indexes on the cube before starting the load. If not, include that step as well in the process chain. This will help in getting improved performance.
Ideally it is always a good practice to delete the indexes before loading.

Yogesh -

Thanks for your help.Hi,
I will suggest you to check a few places where you can see the status
1) SM37 job log (In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load) (give request name) and it should give you the details about the request. If its active make sure that the job log is getting updated at frequent intervals.
Also see if there is any 'sysfail' for any datapacket in SM37.
2) SM66 get the job details (server name PID etc from SM37) and see in SM66 if the job is running or not. (In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load). See if its accessing/updating some tables or is not doing anything at all.
3) RSMO see what is available in details tab. It may be in update rules.
4) ST22 check if any short dump has occured.(In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load)
5) Check in SM58 and BD87 for pending tRFCs and IDOCS.
Once you identify you can rectify the error.
If all the records are in PSA you can pull it from the PSA to target. Else you may have to pull it again from source infoprovider.
If its running and if you are able to see it active in SM66 you can wait for some time to let it finish. You can also try SM50 / SM51 to see what is happening in the system level like reading/inserting tables etc.
If you feel its active and running you can verify by checking if the number of records has increased in the data tables.
SM21 - System log can also be helpful.
Regards,
Habeeb -
I recently started using an iPad. I up loaded several apps. Evernote, cloudon, Goodreader, Drop Box and lots of others.
It crashes when I down load pictures and then try to use them. Converting a jpg to a pdf usually triggers a crash.
Is there a "hitch" in my "giddy up?"
Help.

Are you using the "Print to PDF" dialogue to convert your jpegs to pdf?
In addition to OT's test, you might also check, if using a different "Theme" for printing will avoid the crash:
14 com.apple.AppKit 0x912a52e4 _NSDrawThemeBackground + 1429
15 com.apple.AppKit 0x9145edeb -[NSThemeFrame
You crashlog shows, that iPhoto crashes, when trying to draw the "Print" theme background. There could be a problem wit the installed themes. Can you convert any jpegs to pdf, not only the jpegs downloaded from your iPad?

Hi All,
I am trying to upload 2LIS_02_SCL data, I am trying to refresh the entire data using Init, it is taking lot of time in Prodcution. This is creating the problem for me for next Back ground Job which runs in the night for delta's. Please can anybody guide me how to speed up the load? This datasource is connected to 2 Infocubes and 1 ODS.
Regards,
RajeshHi Sal,
I have done the same things as you said, my mistake is
R/3:
Locked all R/3 users.
Deleted from LBWG.
Filled setup tables using Document Date from 2006 to 2008 (Month wise i have filled).
BW:
I have cleaned entire data from 0PUR_C01 and 0PUR_C04.
Loaded data at a time to 2 Cubes and 1 ODS using Init upload.
It is started taking long time. Actual problem is load was not finished at the time of Daily load Process Chain starts(Night).
I have cancelled the job. made available only delta to Process Chain.
Now problem is escaled, again i started today same Init for 1 Cube only, again taking long time.

Browser is taking lot of time in loading forms
Hi
I am working on forms 10g..
when i am running my form.... the browser is loading applet and jar files.
After loading this it is taking lot of time to show forms...
Even I am clearing all my temp files frequently...
Why it is taking so much time??
What I have to do so that it can load forms in very least time??
ThanksAfter loading this it is taking lot of time to show forms...This could be caused by a resource issue on the Client PC. By resource I mean available RAM, JRE memory settings, etc. It could also be a conflict between the Client OS, installed JRE and the Browser. Please tell us what the Client OS, JRE and Browser are as well as how much RAM is installed on the client pc.
Even I am clearing all my temp files frequently...Are you clearing the Browsers temporary internet files or the JRE's JAR cache? If the JRE's JAR cache then you are forcing the client to download the JAR each time you clear the JAR cache.
The slowness can also be caused by how large your FORMS files are and what you are doing in the Pre-Form and When-New-Form-Instance triggers. If you are performing numerous calls to the database or calling SYNCHRONIZE too many time in any of the triggers that fire when a Form initially loads then this will cause your form to load slower.
Hope this helps,
Craig B-)
