Lots of empty folders for photos on my Mac

After getting my 3G this weekend I set up a folder on my Mac where I have placed 6 photos of the grandkids to sync with the iPhone. The really look great.
I just went to add another image to the folder for syncing & noticed there is now a sub folder named "iPod photo cache". It contains 50 subfolders named "F1" to F50" all of which are empty. This sub folder is 3.2MB in size.
Questions: Why was this sub folder created (do I need it) and is this sub folder now on my iPhone taking up lots of empty space?
Thanks

This subfolder is what iTunes and iPhoto uses to keep track of the photos. Do not delete this folder.
Sometimes if you run into issues where some photos do not sync or show up you may need to delete it but if everything is ok, leave it be. It is supposed to be there.

How to create folders for photo albums?

More detail please?  Are you talking about photos synced to the Photos app in the iPad, or photos taken by the iPad camera, emailed to it or added by a camera kit? Have you checked the User Guide for this - availble through the IPad Manuals link at the very start of this forum?

  • Creating folders for "To Do" in mac mail

How do I create folders for "To Do's" in mail? I have multiple "To Do's" and they can get a bit confusing and difficult to shuffle through. I can't for the life of me figure out how to place them into folders. I can place individual "Notes" into folders but not "To Do's"

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
As far as I know you can't move To Do's to different folders. Nevertheless, where a specific To Do is stored depends on where you've created it. If you are using an IMAP email-account and have it selected in the sidebar of Apple Mail when clicking on the To Do button of Mail, the To Do will be created and stored in the folder "Apple Mail To Do" on the server. Note that at the same time a calendar, labeled after your account, will be created in iCal.

  • How do I change the name of my hard drive which the photos and libraries are located on without having to relink and recreate folders for photos?

When I have tried to change the name of my hard drive which my photos and catalog are stored on, when I try and access the new catalog in the new destination yet still same physical hard drive it unlinks all the photos and the folder structure.
Any way to keep the photos or at least the year folders so as to more easily relink?

In the Library module, in the Folders tab on the left, do a right-click "show parent" until you can see the root of the drive.
From there, if you cannot rename the drive from there, then rename it in the OS finder/explorer. Then you just need to reconnect that one root directory or drive entry and Lightroom will do all the work for you.

  • How to make folders for photos

How can I sort my photos out into folders so that I can choose which photos I want as my desktop. At the moment it wont let me choose a specific folder to have rotating as my desktop so I'm having to have all my photos on rotation. Help anyone?!?!?!

Create the folder in Finder, you can put it anywhere you want in your home folder, and put your pictures in it.  Then, in System Preferences -> Displays -> Desktop click the + button at the bottom of the folder list and navigate to your newly created folder.

    No.
You create them on your computer, then sync the to the ipod:

I use Aperture on my Mac and have approx 450Gigs of raw files for my photos and growing. I'm running short on space and system is starting to slow down. What are the best ooptions to improve performance and increase space space.?

important to note that what you are talking about is not a backup
It is simple to ahve your iPhoto library on an external drive -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
And you can have multiple i{Photo libraries - one can be on your internal drive and other on an external drive  --  iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  is a very helpful tool for managing multiple libraries

Hey there, jwessels!  Unfortunately, I haven't found any information on the Sony eSupport website for this Model Sony Headphones, so I looked on Amazon, and it seems that the container is a Padded Carrying Case. And as for the bag, it's an Accessory Pouch. That's all the information I was able to find for you regarding your question, so I hope this information has helped you!  Best regards,

  • Since the last update to v31.0 lots of extra folders have appeared in my account folders with the numbered names like: popstate-6.dat

It just seems to be lots of empty folders, number increased after a restart!

I have changed no settings from the previous version, I have been using Thunderbird for a long time and have never come across this type of folder before but judging from their name, I would say they are a Thunderbird internal maybe temporary POP account related data folder, nothing seems to be in them, but there are more on the busier accounts. I'm using Windows XP if that helps. Somebody must know what these folders are and what generates them, I'm pretty sure it is not user related but rather update related, which seems reasonable.

  • Just days ago, I downloaded and created folders for two batches of photos and now they are missing. They were not deleted by anyone, and even if they were, they were not found in my trash can. What happened? They were erased from my camera, so I am upset.

Just days ago, I downloaded and created folders for 2 batches of photos I downloaded from my camera to iphotos but now both are missing.  They were not deleted and even if they were, were not found in my trashcan. I have looked through every folder and they are not there. Is there a bug that can get into iPhoto to do this? Is there a program Apple offers to retrieve lost photos? Thank you.

How do you know they were not deleted? Is it possible that they were moved to the trash and the trash has been emptied, if not by you, perhaps by someone else?
In the best case, you mean they were not deleted from your camera.  If so, it will be simple to merely download again from your camera after you have corrected any problem with your Mac or workflow.
If you have a way to be certain that your two folders were not deleted from your Mac,  follow the directions provided by your Mac's Disk Utility to repair your Disk (not Disk Permissions.)  On more than one occasion, disk repair has restored the visibility of missing folders I knew I had not deleted.  If you have trouble with the process, post back which specific Mac OS version ( > About This Mac) you are using so we can offer specific help.
It is also possible that the missing folders might be saved somewhere you do not expect them to be.
It is also possible that they may merely be invisible and, thus, not showing in your Finder windows even after performing a Disk Repair.
Here are some more ideas you can consider:
Restart Mac and then look where you expect the folders to be.  They may be visible there now.
If not, try a Spotlight search for the folder name(s) you used.  Spotlight may give you a list of places to look.  If you don't remember the folder name(s), try a search for the file type your camera uses for saved images.  My cameras save "jpg" files, but yours may save other image file types.
You can also open a finder window and use the window's search oval to search.  The method allows you to use the search "+" button to add invisible items via the "File Visibility"  choice.
debbie5891 wrote:... I have looked through every folder and they are not there....
If you are using any version of Mac OS X, I doubt this statement can be true.
If you select your disk volume name (not the Media item) in the sidebar of your Mac's Disk Utility, you will see that the number of Folders and files on your disk is very large.  For example,I keep my startup disk small and write most of my files to other disks.  Even so, my startup disk contains more than 195,000 folders.
If you mean you used some software to search each folder, please post back the name of the app you are using.
debbie5891 wrote: ... Is there a bug that can get into iPhoto to do this? ...
I have not had the problem you describe, nor have I heard of such an iPhoto Bug.
I have used every version of iPhoto I have seen including the current new version: iPhoto '11 version 9.5 (902.7).  You can find the version you are using by executing the iPhoto > About iPhoto menu command and post it back here.
debbie5891 wrote:... Is there a program Apple offers to retrieve lost photos? ...
I am not aware of any Apple apps that work specifically on photo files.  If you know the pathname to the lost files, and if you are comfortable with Unix commands, you might be able to use your Mac's Terminal utility to retrieve at least some of your images.  However, it will be MUCH simpler to merely download another copy from your camera.
You can search the Mac App Store for "unerase" to find several apps that can unerase files, including deleted photo files, in certain circumstances even after the trash has been emptied.  To determine whether one or more of them may meet your needs, see their product info and reviews for specifics about each one.
    debbie5891 wrote:...Thank you.
    You're most welcome.
If you need to post back for more information, please provide specifics on your Mac OS, iPhoto version, which of the suggestions offered here you have tried, and any details not already provided about the problem status.

Have you recently deleted photos using the finder or run clean up software?  Is so restore your backup
If not the backup your iPhoto Library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option and command keys. Rebuild your database

  • Folders for playlists/photos don't show in iPod

My playlists and photos have been carefully sorted into various folders to make navigating them easier.
For some reason, my iPod doesn't display:
    - any playlist folders, or
    - folders beneath the 1st level of hierarchy for photos (aka "deep hierarchies").
I'm guessing I'm not the only one to experience this.
Does anyone know why Apple chose to do this, and, more importantly, we can do to circumvent it? Browsing thousands of photos without a folder structure quickly becomes extremely tedious...
5G   Windows XP Pro   iTunes 7.0.2.16

Less than a zillion. More than 42.
It's useful in my line of work for me to be able to create multiple playlists that fall in different groups; there are often 12-20 playlists per group. Being able to maintain this structure would make browsing them on the iPod so much easier. Given Apple's trend to make things easier, why not provide a checkbox for those of us who would like this? Or, better yet, a checkbox and an automated alert when you reach a certain # of playlists: "FYI, you can enable folder structure in your iPod by doing this.."
Same thing for photos: the folders are nested. It makes finding them much easier... example: Trips/2006/Home, Work/Projects/Abstract. You get the idea.
Now I wait for the off-chance that my feature request would be heeded. In the meantime, if anyone has a workaround...
