  • Slow web page loads on Mac, but not for PC

I use a D-Link wireless router (DI-524) for my PowerBook G4 15" and my roommate's Dell PC. Very recently I seem to get very slow web page loads with some pages not even loading at all.
Airport is consistently connected with no drops at all and when I'm downloading something it never gets interrupted the whole way through.
My roommate's PC has no problem whatsoever and all of the web pages that he visits load instantly. It seems that my main problem is with web pages.
I've tried doing a clean install on my Powerbook, I've tried resetting the router (I've tried upgrading the firmware but the router decided it didn't want to work with the new version). And surprisingly, I get the same slow speeds when I hook up my Powerbook to my router via ethernet cable. The only time my speeds are perfectly fine is when I hook up my Powerbook directly to the wall (I dorm in a university so we have a T3 line).
Can someone please give me some advice on this very frustrating issue?

In addition to Neds suggestions, empty the Safari cache (which should be empty after a clean install).
Goto the Safari Get Info screen (in Finder or in Dock if you have Safari there), click the triangle on languages, and disable those you don't use.
My Safari response time was significantly slowed after the 10.4.5 update, and using the combo updater took care of that. The 10.4.6 combo update is located here.

  • System slow and certain web pages load slowly

For six month's I have been trying to determine what is wrong.
    Back ground os: Maverick 10.9.4.
I think I may have found the trouble.
When I shut down the computer, a box opens and ask's
to continue the download or abort?
    So, I always abort.
I have done all the maintenance and permissions and reset
the Pram and Sms. (I think that's it?)
The last time I posted a tecky had me download EtreCheck software.
And I was able to find a lot of bad or damaged files.
I ran it today and under, Top Processes by C.P.U.: ( In red) was
    100% installer.
I can not tell which or what installer?
    And how to find this?
My whole system is slow or unresponsive and web pages
    sometime's do not load.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thank you,
    John

    Found the culprit. ( WOOHOO ! )
I went into the library and under logs,
found a file called: com.apple.Tcc and
it had a red icon on the bottom.
So I re- ran EtreCheck and it was gone.
    By maintenance, I mean, Permissions.
I hope this solved the problem?
Thank you to all for your assistance.
If this does not solve it I will be back.

  • Slow Web Page Loading in Safari & Firefox

A few months ago, Safari began loading web pages extremely slowly, regardless of the Internet connection. I don’t recall doing anything special at the time; it just kind of started all of a sudden. I thought it might a problem with Safari, so I downloaded Firefox. Although Firefox was a bit faster at first, it quickly (over the course of about 1 week) slowed down as well. To reiterate, the browser application itself was loading quite rapidly, yet the web pages were taking a very long time. On average, it takes more than 90 seconds to load a web page as simple as Google.com. Before this problem began, a web page would usually take an average of about 15-20 seconds to load. I am sure that it is NOT due to my Internet connection because the problem remains regardless of whether I am at home (where I have a cable connection) or at work (where I know the Internet connection is very reliable). To further support this, my roommate who has a 4 year old Dell PC loads web pages using Internet Explorer significantly faster than I do (with my 2.5 year old MacBook Pro). I have not noticed any kind of performance decrease with any of my other software or hardware; the computer still starts-up quickly, and all of my other software applications are very responsive. Any suggestions on how I might fix this issue?

Before this problem began, a web page would usually take an average of about 15-20 seconds to load
I would call that slow! 1-5 seconds should be the maximum.
The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 / )
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

  • W550s: slow web page loading - video problem?

My system:Thinkpad W550s with the 2880x1620 px Display.CPU:      i7 - 5500URAM: 8 GBSystem: Win 7 64 bitDrives:  system 256GB m.2 SSD This problem seems to be Lenovo video display, not the web browser or the internet connection: I see the same slugish page loading with Chrome and Firefox; I see the same problem with WiFi or wired ethernet. No other computers at my house have this problem. Specifically, I display Zillow in web browser. Choose a search option that displays hundreds of homes within the map. Zoom in or zoom out. Zillow redraws the entire map, and it is very slow on my W550s (sometimes 2 seconds or more). Other computers will refresh in a few blinks of the eye. I have not used the computer enough to say if I'm also seeing video display problems. There is a slow video on W550s topic in the forum, too.. I haven't yet tried some of the (unsuccssful) steps recommended there.

Occasionally I see it reach 100% when doing nothing but browsing! So what does that mean to you? The observed sluggishness seems very real, but I have a hard time quantifying it. My desktop system (older AMD CPU, 8 GB RAM, HD, not SSD) is definitely snappier. The graphics card on the desktop system is nothing special - some nVidia $50 card. Again, in the not quantifiable category, a friend recently brought an older Dell XPS laptop to my home that I had gifted to her. It is from 2007, runs Windows Vista (yikes!) and only has 4 GB RAM, yet it definitely felt faster with Firefox. It even seemed to load Firefox and IE quicker! This is really disheartening. I should load Adobe Lightroom on it and see how that runs.

  • Malformed packets - slow web page loading

I'm running bm3.9 sp2 with some post bm sp2 files as provided by Novell
    support on a nw6.5 server.
I've noticed that on IE and Fireforx browsers, that web pages will often
take a long time to load and typically if I hit the 'stop' button on the
browser and do a 'reload' or 'refresh' for that web page, it will
    immediately load fine.
I've been looking at the tcp stats but don't notice anything strange there.
I ran pktscan and the only thing standing out is about 200+ malformed
packets out of about 3000 packets. I've run pktscan a few different times on
different days and still noticing these malformed packets.
I was wondering if this could be a problem or any other suggestions on what
    to look at.
    TIA

correction on packet count - 200+ malformed out of 20k total packets
    captured.

  • Slow web page loading in Safari with DSL

I've got an intermittent problem which may not be Safari-related, but I need to ask it anyway because Mac friends of mine have experienced similar problems.
I just changed my ISP from satellite interenet to mid-speed DSL. Ever since the changeover, I've found that more often than not, pages seem to load about 66%, then data reception seems to stop. When pages DO load, they load quickly, but most of the time, pages seem to stop loading at a certain point. If I hit refresh (often after several times), then the page loads as fast as lightning.
Could there be something with Safari that interacts with the DSL connection which causes the loading to stall? Many times, pages don't load at all, and I'm wasting time waiting for pages to "just pop up", Other times, I will get "Page Not Found" even though I KNOW there's a page existing at that particular location, yet Safari doesn't display it unless I first hit "Refresh". Still other times, The same pages load just fine, whether or not I empty the cache and close the downloads window.
    Any ideas, people?
    Jim Barg
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   What other computer?

    Hi Jim,
The 'refresh to force the page to load' symptom is usually a sign that you either have the wrong DNS addresses specified in your Network preferences or your ISPs DNS server are very slow.
Have a search for DNS on the Safari forum - there's quite a few posts and sample addresses for you to try out.
    Good luck.

  • Still Getting Buffering Issues and Slow Web Page L...

Since I suspect this issue hasn't gone away - and I/we have been asked to post issues individually rather than clumping into a single tread.
I just got back from Spain and after quizzing family it seems we are still getting Stream Buffering Issues (again)  (requires a refresh restart << I suspect lost packets rather than speed decrease) and webpages sometimes don't load correctly and require a refresh to load all page elements.
Just before I left there was an Openreach engineer working on the CAB and my noise margin doubled (but given my distance from the CAB and no speed issues I think the higher margin is a bonus not a negative << so hard to get uncontradictary posts or guidance on the web about Noise Margins - speeds still ok atm according to BTW but havent been back long enough to monitor thru the day/night.
I can only assume there are still backhaul issues ongoing.
I notice other ISP forums eg Plusnet noting capacity contention issues but BT remains Silent.
It's such a shame BT aren't more forthcoming to their customers and I feel really cheated/mis-sold by the whole Infinity 2 product 'never have to buffer again' - advertising hype. This has been a problem here since mid December - so we're talking a month worth of connection issues.
Since someone will probably ask me for HH stats - here you go - apologies to all those more than 20m from the CAB who are struggling on much slower speeds (I feel for you honest) and in terms of the available speeds etc feel this HAS TO BE a BTW backhaul issue - be it from exchange or in the core.
    I'm all open to comment/solutions

Short answer Ray - nope I only use WiFi on the phone.
Well for the benefit of others as much as myself I am still having issues and gave up on an iPlayer (live stream) due several bursts of buffering again tonight which made me miss the bits I was really interested in.
    So...
Eliminating anything in the home the following tests are done directly into the HH5s Gb port. I normally use a switch in this port to seperate my PC's from iThings and anything else on WiFi  (the kids)(BTFon/X) - never had any issues with my switch tho and it will push pull files to/from my NAS or transfer files around my three PCs at full speed << so no concerns there, but NOT used in these tests.
All wired with industry Grade CAT6 << even ran a checker tool on it and no probs << yip I have such things available.
Following Stats are after a complete shut down :
PC Restarted without Firewall or any AntiVirus - no other network connections active and HH5 WiFi Dissabled. HH5 Power Off and Factory Reset (I've tried previously as suggested by other posters using the Openreach modem but since it didnt solve anything just went back to the HH5 to save a power socket and my HH5 can stay up for 13 or so days without issues so I don't suffer in disconnection issues dept). Ok i could buy another router but I doubt its the problem and im just **bleep** away cash for what would then be a replacement for 'not fit for purpose' supplied equipment.
Quiet Line test = clear << tested master socket with wired phone.
    My Cabinet :
    BTWholesale Speed Test :
Interestingly i'm getting way lower UPLOAD than the minimum even on an impaired line (I'm only about 20m from the cabinet as the cable runs - less if I want to kick it) << this does seem to fluctate a lot.
    TBB Speedtest :
I'm open to suggestions but have just about had enuff...
I still maintain this is a congeston issue but that BT are in total denial to customers about what traffic shaping occurs to maintain the QoS for their YouView and BTSports Customers at the expense of other data under 'abnormal conditions' like lack of capacity.
So unless a MOD wants to jump in and resolve this quickly, I have several letters ready to go to various parts of BT - Customer Complaints/Sales(for misleading claims)/and Legal Dept. Just need the stamps + a cc copy to Ofcom. This is the last phase of having done ALL I CAN BE REASONABLY EXPECTED TO DO through the BTs compaints proceedures. so that I can send a breach of contract notification to escape this madness.
Yours xx, a very dissatisfied customer.

i have a linkysys modem and wrt150n router. i have one desk top and a laptop that uses the wireless connection. everything was working fine untill a couple of days ago. then webpages started loading slowly on the laptop. the signal strength is excellent.  i do not know what happened to cause this problem. desktop webpages load quickly. can someone help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

On the setup page of the router, under wireless tab...Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Under Advance Wireless tab...Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...Now,check the connection.
Also disable the firewall on the computer.Adjust the browser settings on the computer...Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...

  • Web pages load SLOW on IPad: how to disable DNS prefetching; other ideas?

Brand new IPad 16 GB WiFi + brand new Airport Extreme in bridge mode. Comparing IPad web page load speeds with side-by-side WinXP computer running IE8. Any web site will do: take www.apple.com if you want.
Problem: IPad web pages generally load much too slowly compared to IE8 on a computer 6 inches away on the same Airport Extreme network. Maybe twice as slow at worst, occasionally not much slower, but generally pathetic and annoying. WiFi signal strength is "excellent". Airport Extreme network is working great with all my (Windows) computers and devices except the IPad.
I already switched to OpenDNS on my Airport Extreme; didn't help noticeably. I would like to try disabling DNS prefetching in Safari, but don't know how to do it on the IPad. Question #1: How do I disable DNS prefetching? Question #2: Any other suggestions for this embarrassing (to Apple) problem?

I'm experiencing a similar problem with a new iPad 2 using iOS 4.3.3 connected to the Internet via Time Machine to a DSL line.  The Speedtest X HD App shows the connection speed to be fine (about .6 Mb / s).  The problem is only with accessing web pages.  I frequently get a "server not responding" msg.  There is no problem when I connect the device via USB to an iMac, only through wifi.  The iMac itself (Intel with OSX 10.6.7) periodically experiences problems (both Firefox and Safari):  I have learned to solve it by cleaning out cache and fixing disk permissions periodically.  I've tried cleaning out cache on the iPad, deleting cookies and erasing web history, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.  The problem reminds me of an old VNC problem:  you had to allocate a large amount of cache or streaming would stall.  This is also happening with the iPad 2.  Maybe the problem is a DNS channel issue but my impression is that it is somehow related to a memory or cache issue with the iOS device or to Airport.  I've occassionally experienced similar slow page loading problems with other Airport connected devices--it varies from device to device.  It seems to be a client-side software or caching problem.

  • WRT350n Firmware Update 1.03.7 - Web page load really slow after update

Well I updated my WRT350N with the new firmware, but now web pages load very slowly, and streaming video is even slower. Before the update it was blazing fast. I run a mixed network of wireless N and G. Both Wireless N connections connect at 200 or higher Mbps now, which is a great improvement.
Anybody got any ideas why web pages and steaming video run so slow now.
Also downloading files never goes above 30 kb/sec now.
I use comcast cable and downloads were so fast before.
    Thanks in advance.

check the download speed and the streaming video when the computer is directly connected to the modem

  • WRT54GS - Web page loads slow or not at all

My parents have two wireless laptops accessing their WRT54GS.  Both receive excellent signal strength.  Web pages load at normal speed for the first unit to access the internet on their network.  However, the web pages will take forever or not load at all for the second computer, despite the fact that the signal strength to the second computer remains excellent.  It does not matter which connects first and which is second; the problem still occurs.
I might mention that the computers and the router were purchased on Dec. 23, so everything should be current, with the exception of the 12/28/06 firmware release for the router.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

hi...you can try different wireless settings on the router...
    channel -- 1,9 or 11
    under advanced wireless settings ,
    beacon interval  - 75
    frag threshold    -  2304
    RTS                   -  2304
if this does not make any difference then upgrading the firmware could help you....

  • After upgrading to 8.0 the add-on compatability tool runs and the Getting Started web page loads every time the browser starts.

After upgrading to 8.0 from 7.0.1 every time I start FF I get the add-on compatibility tool to run and the Getting Started web page loads along with my homepage in separate tabs as well. So far I have tried running the installer again, disabling all add-0ns and custom settings and restarting and turning off automatic updates. Nothing worked there. I got the same behavior each time. I don't know what else to try other than a full uninstall and reinstall. Something I'd like to avoid if it's possible because of the time involved. This is the second time I have posted regarding this issue. The first time I didn't get a response. A solution or a possible workaround would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows of any. As a staff member and a global forum moderator for an anti-virus company I understand how hectic things can be at times but some feedback, good or bad, on this issue would be very welcomed! Regards, Ritchie...

Hi michaell, thanks for the reply. I tried everything in the Preferences are not saved link you provided and nothing worked there. If creating a new profile will delete all my add-ons and custom settings I might as well just do a complete uninstall and reinstall. That actually would be easier. That article told me how to save my bookmarks though so I don't have to loose those which is nice. I don't know if this makes any difference but there is a discrepancy between the preference file in the article which is: prefs.js and what's showing on my PC which is: prefs with no .js suffix. I tried to rename the file to prefs.js and restarted. No luck there either. It just created another prefs file. I guess we've pretty much exhausted all the avenues to try! I'm just going to go ahead and do a reinstall when I get the time. Thanks so much for your help michaell. I do appreciate the effort. Regards, Ritchie...

When I add pictures into MUSE , do the pictures resize for web quality (And so the page loads fast enough) or do I have to do this using an external software like photoshop, etc. ?
Also is there any way I can change the contact form email for all of my contact forms at once.
I have over 100 contact forms and i want to make them reach the same email anyway I can do that without going one by one?

If you have placed the image in Muse using File > Place and then scaled the image down in Muse while editing, then Muse publishes/exports the scaled down/optimized image in final output. When using as a Fill, the output size depends on the Fitting option you setup in the Fill options.
As for the contact form email, you would need to specify the email address for each form individually. There is no workflow to edit the same for multiple forms at a time.
    Cheers,
