Lots of lags in basic finder operations - mouse events are not recognized

Hi there,
since 10.6.7 I'm experiencing lots of problems with my Mac mini 2,4Ghz Intel core duo / 4 GB RAM / 140GB free disc space. I recently updated to Lion which I hoped would fix some of this problems - turned out to be a dream. Some Time/Apps later all the problems show up again. I already searched the web for solutions and did the following:
resetting PRAM, booting in safe mode, deleting startup items, complete new system installation, and apps, updating software, killing dashbord (read it somewhere), adjusting mouse preferences, checking with hardware test, removing RAM bars to check if there is a problem, memtest, used "lion cache cleaner" for optimizing RAM, deleting caches, switching vom 64 to 32 bit and vice versa, etc. ... no effect!
Activity monitor does not show any unusual peaks (as far as I can tell) in performance (cpu, ram, etc.)
1) Basic finder operations often lag. E.g. opening an external USB drive, opening internal drive, opening upper registers(menues), etc. Sometimes up to 5 seconds delay, which can be really annoying during work. What is more, this happens in almost all Apps when I try to access the file system.
2) iTunes videos from the store lag quite heavy. It's almost impossible to watch a movie due to the hangups
3) Mouse clicks/moves sometimes/often are not (or very late) recognized by finder/apps. (e.g. CS5 Photoshop,when triing to move a layer I often need to use the arrow keys of the keyboard to have an effect, mouse is just ignored & simple movement of files will only happen after I tried it 2-3 times)
4) Entering text in form fields, like logins, community posts, ... is a real pain since it often takes some time until the text shows up. It's like typing and 5 seconds later you can see the machine work by putting letter after letter on the screen.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?
Could it be a hardware issue? Grafic-card?
Any solutions?

Found something... read, that it could be a mouse-usb problem when connected to the keyboard... so what I did was connecting the mouse directly to the mac... and ahhh first improvement... mouse-experienceis much better now... and I think, for what I can tell at this moment, finder operations seem better too.
Never would have guessed that. I take my mini to the office every day where I have a second set of mouse and keyboard... had the same probs there... so probably it is a mac-usb-keyboard with attached mouse - problem.

How do I find out what features are not useful in my Classifier? I am trying to trim down the number of features to speed up the training of my data, I have about 3700 features. I have found the Filter Based Feature Selection Module and have not been successful
in using it. I have looked through all the examples and have not been able to find any examples using the module. Will the Filter Based Feature Selection Module help me to trim features. If so how do I use it?

One way to do this would be is to use a random forest classifier. Feature/variable importance can be obtained relatively easily with random forests.
Here is how you may do it in R.

What this tells you is how important predictors/features/variables like horsepower(hp), weight(wt), no. of cylinders (cyl) is in predicting miles per gallon (mpg).

I updated to Firefox 4.01 today and the middle scroll button on my Lenovo T400 stopped working. I downloaded the updated Ultranav utility and the Ultranav driver for my T400 from here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-72858.html and then uninstalled the "Thinkpad Ultranav Driver" from Add/Remove programs rebooted and then installed the updated utility and driver (another reboot) and it now works perfectly.
So glad to get this working again.

I recently had to purchase a new hard drive. Because the size of my music collection exceeds 140 GB, I stored all of my music on a separate external hard drive. When I exported everything back into my new iTunes library, I found that I had about 200 more songs than I had in the previous library. After deleting most of those extraneous songs, I was able to get my library close to where it was before. However, after syncing to my iPod Classic, I noticed that only 34,853 of the 34,863 loaded. How can I figure out which of those ten songs in my library did not sync to my iPod?

It may be that the 10 songs are unchecked. To find them select songs view.
If there is a column Heading marked with a tick then click on it to sort by this column.
If the Column is not there then View > View Options and select the Checked column which will then display
Check the songs by putting ticks in the empty boxes and resynch. Now those tracks should go over as well

All buttons in all files are now showing error: Mouse events are permitted only for button instances.

I've taught myself enough with Flash to customize a
fully-Flash template for my wife's website, and two of the buttons
didn't do what I wanted them to in Actionscript. They then began
giving me the message:

Hello Corbett,
The error is saying that you are trying to apply a button
action to something
other than a button. Often this happens when you select the
frame that the
button is on instead of the actual button, thus applying the
action to the
frame instead of the button.
Make sure you select the button on the stage and then apply
the actions there.
You'll probably have to remove the action from the frame
before it will work
(looks like it's on Layer 4 frame 1).

Mouse Events are slow

Hello everyone,
I'm currently working on an standard as3 (1024x768) app that
is running inside a chromeless Air window to take advantage of the
transparency.
All my tests where done using windows XP professional and AIR
1.0 (the same problem existed in beta3).
The issue I'm having is related with Mouse Events. Somehow
the events take a lot of time to reach the swf file when the user
clicks inside the transparent window.
It's natural that the app runs slower inside a transparent
window (the framerate drops) but I wasn't expecting the clicks to
suffer from such delay (it takes sometimes 2-5sec).
The app is very CPU intensive and the transparencies make it
worse. Something inside the AIR framework is not dispatching the
events properly.
I say this because I tried using the virtualMouse class from
senocular together with a socket to simulate the mouse clicks and
that did the trick.
In conclusion:
Something in the AIR framework for windows XP is messing up
the dispatch of the Mouse events when the app is under heavy cpu
usage inside a chromeless window. I click on the window and it
takes 1-2sec to receive the click event.
However when I dispatch the MouseEvent.CLICK myself using
the virtual mouse class the application immediately receives the
event.
I know this is a strange bug and not many people will have
this problem, but I would like to know from someone with knowledge
of the runtime why this could be happening.

Mouse settings are not being saved

I just did a clean install of Lion (10.7.5) on a new SSD in a mac pro 1,1 and am having problems with my mouse settings. The settings are not being saved. When I change any of the buttons, nothing changes.
It's not a hardware problem with the mouse. If I boot up to my previous os drive, lion 10.7.5, the mouse settings are correct and function properly.

FOrgot to add, this is the basic wired mouse. I've also tried the wireless bluetooth mighty mouse as well with the exact same results.
I've tried removing the plist files with no success

Wireless mouse and keyboard not recognized

I know that I have had this issue before, but can't remember what the solution is (old age?) My iMac G5 PPC has a wireless mouse and keyboard (the old apple white one). The iMac came with these as an option but WITHOUT the bluetooth card inside. (I still don't know how this works, but it does). Anyway, the mouse and keyboard were not recognized when I tried to get on today. The batteries are good. If I go to system prefs (using an even older wired mouse) there is no bluetooth option (since no card is present). I don't know how to get the computer to try to recognize both. Any help is definitely appreciated.

If the iMac didn't come with Bluetooth software/hardware, then are you using a USB Bluetooth dongle?
And open System Profile (Applications/Utilities)
Select Bluetooth on the left under Hardware. You may need to click the gray disclosure triangle so it faces down. What does it say on the right?
If the Bluetooth icon is in your Status Menu Bar (top right in your screen). Click the icon and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Then click: Open Bluetooth Preferences and try re-pairing the mouse and keyboard.

In the importing operation Firefox detects Internet Explorer and Opera as installed browsers. When i select Internet Explorer cookies, history, favourites etc. are listed in a box where you can select the items you want to import in Firefox. When i select Opera no items are listed that can be imported. Any idea how this comes?

I think that what you are searching be in Tools >> Options >> Privacy >> On Firefox will: change to "Use custom settings for history" then Button Show Cookies will be allowed and you will see the cookies in your browser in the next window
If you uncheck "Accept cookies from sites", probably the sites that need cookies will alert you that you need active the storage cookies

LR3 Syncronize folder finds "missing" photos that are not missing

Having switched to LR3 I made some new catalogs and syncrnized some folders. LR3 kept find a ton of missing photos though and I was sure they were not missing. SO I clicked on the "show missing files" button and sure enough it just showed me hundreds of photos that were not actually missing. I checked them by right clicking on them and using the "show in finder" option to check that they were indeed still on my disk.
Whats happening ? It seems to do it every time and I have tried it with several folders. Every time it thought it found hundreds of missing photos.

I did not upgrade my catalog from LR2 to 3 , instead I started an entirely new catalog. I was hoping then to import some old LR2 catalogs into the new LR3 one but alas that plan has fallen foul of the import bug that effects importing catalogs with the same folders in them so I cant do that..... but thats all in another thread.
I think maybe I was not clear enough becuase it sounds like you didnt quite catch my point. My point is that the photos are not missing at all, they ares still clrearly displayed in the catalog and I can double click them and open them no problem. I do not have to locate them at all. They are still there. It is just lightroom saying they are not there when i sync a folder.
So to clarify, when i syncronize,it tells me that X number of files are missing. If I click the button to "show missing files" all the photos that it shows, are still there. It does not display them as missing, it displays them as normal. Now this would not reall be a problem except that the sync default is to remove missing files. So if you leave that option selected, LR removes a ton of files that were not missing!
Does that make it clearer, sorry i was not so clear the first time.
