Lots of lockups and slowdowns
I have recently had tons of lockups (or horrible slowdowns) on my system. Have installed nothing new, but tried to use Disk Utility. It mentioned major repair issues needed and that it couldn't fix it. So, I backed everything up that I could and reformatted (I did not zero over the drive - maybe I should've) the drive and started over. It seemed to work great for about 2 weeks and now its doing it again. I will try to open mail and safari only to sit and watch them bounce for a minute then (if) they finally open the system will just lock up. Its not that it locks up everytime, but becomes horrendously slow.
Any ideas? I found an article that recommends running disk repair and disk permissions weekly. Is this really needed? I also read an article saying I shouldn't have jumped right to 10.3.9 - that instead, I should have downloaded all the steps and updated one at a time.
Its pretty frustrating really. About to toss the whole thing and go to Windows (no, but I am getting pi$$ed).

The zero out will map out bad blocks (could be part of your problem). It is your best chance at restoring the drive. The clicking noises bother me though. It could be your Mac trying to access bad blocks but, depending on the type of clicking noise, could also be a drive failing mechanically. In that case replacement is the only option. I would try the zero out and see how it goes if you have the time.
I live in Oswego (Geneva's a great town!) and love making a little cash on the side, but I'm working 7 days a week and have little time on my hands. I'm also used to working on towers so an iMac would be foreign to me. Thanks for the offer though and good luck!

Anyway: I updated to Mavericks a few weeks ago and I have been experiencing hangs and slowdowns across the system.
The beachball is very common for relatively mundane tasks and things just take a lot longer to complete.

Any suggestions?I've read in other forums that there are two issues that is causing this problem of chopping audio and freezing interfaces. One has to do with USB 2.0 /USB 3.0 issues in OS. The other seems to be an issue with the Fusion drive.
The fix for the fusion drive issue that has been shared online is to either:
Option #1. Don't use the fusion drive and create an external boot drive clone (either SSD or standard HD) and use as your primary drive (completely surpassing the internal fusion drive).
Option #2. Split the internal fusion drive. From there you can use them as two separate logical drives. Load your OS on one of the drives (SSD or HD). http://www.macworld.com/article/2015664/how-to-split-up-a-fusion-drive.html
Before, you do any of the above, make sure that you backup your current system setup.
I just received my imac (2013) with 3TB fusion and I plan on trying option #1. I bought a 3TB external USB drive which I plan to clone after I have the machine running. Once I clone the internal drive, I will test how the machine runs from both the internal fusion and the external to prove if this addresses the audio clipping/stopping problem. Hopefully, Apple will find a fix for this.
It is really a dissapointment that a brand new $2500+ machine and software was not tested to perform something that my 2008 MacBookPro and my home built Window XT machine (circa 2003) did without issue. I wished that I would have checked the forums about these issues before I purchased the machine.

You don't. Apps are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them. Instead of creating a new ID, change the primary email address on your existing ID.

If restoring using your backup didn't work, you'll have to save as much of your data as you can (import your photos to your computer, sync your contacts and other data with iCloud, email things like Notes and Voice Memos to yourself, sync with iTunes to transfer all your purchases, etc.) and then restore it as new without using your backup.

hi there, i've just finish our schools year book (voluntarily) and it has 155 pages incl. front/backcover. This file has 1800 links a lot of photos and a few reports. everytime i go to save as PDF it freezers on page 66. i need the book printed in hi-res? im running out of "printing time" as we need it back to school by 10th december for 12th December distribution.

iPad 1 Safari Crashes Constantly and getting worse day by day. Has Apple come up with a solution? Now I am hearing its also happening on the newer models. My company is about to buy a lot of tablets and I will not recommend Apple anything until they fix the problem. Granted 30 or 40 iPads is not a huge impact but i promise once the outside world hears about this BS things will change. There are plenty of other tablets out there that do not have this problem. At the very least we should have the option of rolling back to a stable IOS...
I have already tried all the things mentioned above as well as other things such as other browsers etc. Its is obviously a problem with the hardware. I also borrowed a brand new 4th gen iPad and it does the same thing. Even after upgrading it to 6.01. An occasional crash is one thing and can easily be waved off but this is clearly systemic and the problem appears to be related to graphical images and videos. Both iPads are the 64gb versions, the only difference other than model is the iPad 1 has ATT cellular. The new version is clean i.e no other APPs loaded other than what came with it. I have 7 more coming but im seriously considering sending them back in favor of an Android tablet or the MS Surface.

Quicker link time can be achieved by doing unoptimized builds, Quicker optimized builds can be done by using an exports.txt file to cut down the amount of code exposed (see docs for more info on how to do this).

My iPad colors are fuzzy with lots of reds and purples. Looks like my digital camera when it needs to be recharged if that helps describe the issue. Can anyone help?
Next step is to back up and restore via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a new device and test. If the problem is solved, there is some kind of corruption in your backup file. If it continues, take it to an Apple store for evaluation of a possible hardware problem.
