Lots of music purchased from iTunes suddenly has exclamation marks

I turned on my Mac this morning and found that lots of my music - stuff that was purchased from iTunes - suddenly has exclamation marks next to it and I get a message saying that the file cannot be found.
Since I have Match, surely the system should find the music in the cloud and simply use that to replace the missing files?
I don't know why they have gone missing - no files have been changed and they were working just fine when I shut the machine down last night.

Hi
No it's on one of the internal HDDs in my Mac Pro and seems only to affect random tunes.
The only way I can find to work around it so far is to delete the tracks from the Mac and re-downoad them from the Cloud.
Seems very odd and is very irritating.Would be quite useful if I could simply do what  do with my iPhone - access the music from the cloud rather than locally.
Mind you I still have two tracks from a Led Zeppelin CD of mine that were in the library when I turned Match on and are still listed as 'waiting' and greyed out 7 months later...!

Either you did or did not.  Do you not remember?

Media is not burned to iDevices.  Burning an iDevice would destroy it.
Why will iTunes not allow you to sync media to the iDevice?  What happens when trying to sync media to an iDevice?

    Changed password to what?
    Pull up what account?
What does this have to do with iTunes?
One does not pull up an account to access their media, they simply launch iTunes.
Changing a password has nothing to do with accessing the media on the computer when one launches iTunes.
What is the actual issue that is occurring?

iTunes has nothing to do with putting media on a non-Apple device.

  • Trying to use music purchased from iTunes store with a home movie

I am making a home movie for family use only in either iMovie or Final Cut Pro, but neither app will allow me to use music purchased from iTunes store. Why not? It's not a licensing issue b/c there is no distribution other than my family at a big birthday party. The music imports but acts as if it has no audio once the file is imported to either program. help!

Put the purchased songs into a playlist. Set iTunes burning options to burn AUDIO CDs. Burn the playlist to an audio CD (you can use a CD-RW if you don't want to waste a blank). After it is done, reimport the tracks off the CD. Now use the reimported versions in iMovie or FCP and they should work fine now.

  • Cannot download movies and music purchased from itunes to ipad

I have an iPAD 2 with WIFI/3G capabilities.  Currently I am unable to download movies and music purchased from iTUNES.  The only thing I can download with no problems are APPS.  I don't have a laptop/desktop with iTUNES, so that is out of the question.  Here is the kicker, my friend who has an iPAD 2 with WIFI only, is able to download anything and everything using the same WIFI connection.  Is anyone else facing the same problem?

Check settings, general, restrictions.  Make sure I tunes is set right.  Otherwise, log onto your account in I tunes, and make sure there is nothing strange going on with your accout.  If it works in the app store, it should work in I tunes.

There are a lots of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available some are commercial, some are donation ware. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Using music purchased from iTunes in a slideshow/DVD

I purchased some music from iTunes to use for a slideshow that I am creating. I want to burn this slideshow to a DVD. Is this possible? I read in another forum that it was not. If this is correct, is there a way to work around this issue?

Finding "a way to work around this issue" goes directly against the terms of usage for the forums in terms of discussing ways to get around copy protection methods.
I would offer that my asking for a way to "work around" the problem may not have been the best choice of terms. It is one that is frequently used in other forums when users are discussing how to solve a problem. However, my intent was not to violate either copyright laws or the terms of use of this forum. Certainly it would be very foolish indeed to ask how to do so in a discussions site operated by the same company that produces the software in question!
The DVD I am working on is for personal use, a slideshow of a family vacation. I purchased the music from iTunes to use in the DVD. I am aware that I can burn several CD's (5?) for each song I buy. I concluded, perhaps incorrectly, that this DVD would constitute one of the allowed burns.
Copyrighted music is handled differently depending on which iLife application is being used. With Garageband, it is impossible to import DRM music into the program; any editing is obviously out of the question. Yet, the same musical selection can be imported into iMovie, and it is also possible to edit it.
Perhaps my question should be: Do I have to follow any special procedure when burning a DVD that contains music purchased from iTunes? I remember seeing something about this some time ago; I have not been able to find that post. I was hoping to get the answer in this forum.

If you can't remember your password or security answers and don't have access to the email address (you didn't have a rescue email address on the account ?) then you can try contacting Support in your country and seeing if you can get the password reset and access to the account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 (they should also be able to reset the security questions)
If you can then update the primary email address on the account to be an address that you have access to.

  • My itunes library has exclamation marks on the whole of my music collection I have to upload my CD's again! does anyone know why and what can I do?

Help, my itunes library has exclamation marks and will not play.  Do I have to reload my cd's?

What do you mean by what audio/video formats are involved? These are all files from several digital cameras.
As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted.

  • Siri won't stop playing music purchased from iTunes

In settings -> iTunes & App Store, I have all options set to off. In settings -> Music, "show all music" is off. So nothing I've purchased is displayed in the music app. In addition, I don't have any music synched from my Mac. The Music app is completely devoid of music. The background in the Music app is brown and there's a message saying there are no contents.
When I say to Siri, "Play some music," the reply from Siri is, "Playing all music, shuffled" and music I have purchased from iTunes is played. How is Siri accessing that music when I have all settings for iCloud, iTunes, and the Music app set to not display or download anything purchased from iTunes?

  • Music purchases from iTunes

Living in the Persian Gulf not having a Credit Card for the States or European Countries, how can I can purchase from iTunes?
    thank's
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3)

Sorry, but basically you can't. Unless you have a legal residence in a country where there is an iTunes Music Store and so could purchase iTunes Music cards and provide a local mailing address, you will not be able to set up an iTunes Music Store account.
This is, by the way, at the insistence of the record companies, not by Apple's choice.
