Lots of problems all of a sudden!

Hi everyone - hope someone can halp me - I'm pulling my hair out!
Until yesterday, my Mac Mini was running just fine in every regard.  Now everythings seems to have gone weird.  Here are the symptoms:
1) Certain web pages take forever to load or won't load at all.  Google and bing results will flash up instantly, but loading certain websites, the blue bar on Safari gets so far then stops whilst the grey spinning wheel on the tab goes for ages, sometimes the blue bar then disappears and a second grey spinning wheel apears at the end of the progress bar.  I have tried Firefox and the issue IS NOT just with Safari.
2) When trying to connect to the mac App Store, I get the grey spinning wheel for ages before I simply end up with a blank app store pane with a message in the centre saying "Cannot connect to the App Store".
3) When I try and connect to the Itunes store, I get the "Accessing iTunes Store" progress bar at the top for ages until I get a box pop up saying "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store.  The network connection timed out.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."
4) Some of my widgets on the dashboard are refusing to load data from the web.
PERTINENT (maybe) INFORMATION:
- I know my internet connection is fine as my iPhone is using everything just great.
- Some webpages (including this one) are happy to load as usual.
- Whilst I was typing all this a few minutes ago I abandoned it as everything started working again randomly (the same problems reappeared minutes later and so I came back).
- I downloaded the iMesssage Beta from the Apple website yesterday.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
I have uninstalled the iMessage Beta, closed all apps and restarted the Mac.
SYSTEM SPECS:
Mac mini (early 2009)
Intel Core 2 Duo (2 GHz)
2 GB RAM
Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • HD Capture problem all of a sudden

    Hi all,
    Very strange thing happening when I try to capture from our usual JH3 HDCAM machine into PPro CS5.5.0 (via blackmagic card- specs below in sig)...
    via HD-SDI port I am seeing video and via remote I can control the deck and log clips, etc. But when I go to either batch capture from project panel, or capture direct from capt panel it is going through the motions and says 'Capturing...etc' however the recording counter and GB writing to disk info doesn't move - stays on 00:00:00:00. Nothing writes to disk. The tape will just carry on playing to the end unless I hit ESC to abort.
    Log report just says failed - abort (because I hit ESC) and no resulting file is written to disk. No dropped frames, just nothing!?? I am capturing HD 1080 50i uncompressed 10bit. Also tried JPEG/DVCPROHD but nothing.
    HOWEVER - Bizarrely, if I switch output on machine to SD-SDI and then change capt settings in PPro to SD PAL 16:9 it works. Also if connecting our digibeta machine capturing standard SD it is fine.
    I've not updated OS, PPro or BMD drivers and prefs are same as always been. I'm not keen on updating to 5.5.2 in middle of a project incase it throws up conflicts with other s/w & drivers - unless there is a known fix for this I've not found?
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Yes, I tried that route...seems it's not a hardware/driver problem. HD capture works via Blackmagic's Media Express, but unfortunately using that is not an option for logging/digitising this project.
    It's a weird one - like I said, it all worked fine a few weeks ago with the exact same kit/configs and nothing has been installed/updated since.
    Do any Adobe engineers read these forums, or do I need to submit a bug report? Last time I did that it took months to get anywhere! :-(

  • Having a problem all of a sudden....

    so i'm at my house typing about my boyfriend's computers....here's the situation....
    1 imac....1 macbook....when imac was set up (had macbook and pc before) we had no problems what-so-ever hooking it up to the internet and getting the wireless to work. however, the whole comp system is on an outlet with a switch...so someone turned the switch off (which has happened before)...except this time, the internet is not working. the main comp, the imac, won't connect for whatever reason and of course there's no wireless. like i said, the settings were all straight from the box, nothing changed...and it worked...and now it doesn't.
    don't know what happened...any thoughts?

  • IMAC Wireless Internet Connection Problems All Of A Sudden

    My Imac is well over a year and a bit old and has been able to connect to my wireless internet connection absolutely fine until the past week and a half. At first the connection wouldn't work and when I would turn my airport on and off and reset the router, it would eventually work, now that is not working at all. My airport status is either showing 'airport is turned on but is not connected to a network' or 'airport has a self-assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet'
    I have formatted my imac twice and still no avail and the last format I tried to join wirelessly straight from boot but it wouldn't join saying 'there is a problem with the wireless connection and you're not connected to the internet.' the annoying thing is I can see the network sitting there and can't join it, my network is also unsecure so no need to input a password. All my home PC's and my Iphone and Blackberry find the network easily enough, although recently the Iphone has began showing only 1 bar of wifi connection.
    I am at my wits end as I am unable to connect at all now, I am all out of ideas and have been bashing my head off a wall for the past day without any connection at all.
    My router is a buffalo AirStation wireless G high power model, my IMAC is an intel core 2 duo 20", if you need anymore information of my hardware I will gladly provide it. I'm running MAC OSX Leopard 10.5, out the box as I've been unable to run any software updates as I can't connect to the internet.
    Please, if anyone can shed any light at all on this issue I would definately try anything.

    Anytime you see a self-assigned IP address in your network prefs you know it surely is a problem
    with your router configuration. Power down all equip ... make sure modem is off for at least 5 minutes
    restart modem, restart iMac ... check your network pref on iMac and make sure it's not 169.x.x.x
    If so you will need to recapture the settings from your ISP's modem to the Buffalo.
    Always use a secure wireless connection (WEP, WPA, WPA2) or else the whole neighborhood will suck down your bandwidth the slow down what your paying for. I use Time Capsules or AEBS (Airport Extreme Base Stations) that allow you to stealth mode and lower signal output and make the device
    as a "closed network" ... meaning no one else can see and tap into your WIFI home network!
    802.11N is better than G. and especially when you can use dual bands 2.4 / 5GHz to stop various home interferences. The backup of Time Machine only makes life much easier also! Xtech

  • Problems all of a sudden with sending files through MAC mail?

    My .Mac email has acted up over the past week. I used to send documents smaller than 300k every day to whoever with no problems. Now, I'm lucky if they even go. A progress bar will tell me 8% done... 15% done... 21% done and then most of the time I'll get the message 'Could not be delivered... Try Again or Save for Later?'. Every now and then I'll get lucky and one will send, but it's become rare. Even when it does go it takes FOREVER. 5 minutes or more. They used to take 30 seconds... if that. This is a problem on three different G5's with Mail version 1.3.11 (v622/623). I use a high-speed cable connection to the internet, so it's plug and play for me basically. I even created an account with Comcast mail just to test the documents there and they shoot through with no problems (but that defeats the purpose of using my business email address on .MAC).
    Any suggestions?

    If so, try changing the Server Port from 25 to 587. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below. At the Server Port:, enter 587 in place of 25 in the space provided and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
    Tried that with the same result. I'm stumped. Could there be something wrong with my router you think? Thanks for the help!

  • Am getting lots of popup all of a sudden.  what to do?

    Have a MacBook Pro, purchased in 2008.  I'm  using  OX X Yosemite version 10.10.2.  I have 4 GB memory. 
    The problem:  today I was trying to view a website for shopping (Bed Bath and Beyond) and print out some coupons.  I was suddenly inundated with pop ups and now those pop ups are showing on other websites as well i.e. Amazon.  I also get a constant message that I need to upgrade my Java (which I did try to do unsuccessfully).  I also get a message about using a MAC spyware service...which I've been told by the experts at the Apple store in the past is useless.  So...I think somehow I've compromised my MAC.  Any suggestions much appreciated.

  • I used to be able to open .pdf documents on my MacBook Pro using FireFox with NO problems, all of a sudden NOW they won't open and i get "unsupported" error messages. What the ****? I need to fix this ASAP! Can anyone help in simple non geek language?

    Depending on which version of Firefox you're using, it no longer currently supports the plug-in provided with Adobe Reader. You have to use PDF Plugin 2.4.4. Just disable the Adobe plugin and use the Schubert plugin.

  • IPhoto won't import pics from either of two Canon cameras all of a sudden.

    I plug the Canon camera into the USB and attempt to import pics as have always done.  Currently have 18,000 pics so have done this lots before.  All of a sudden, the camera shows up on the left side of the screen, the pictures show up, but I can't get the IMPORT ALL or IMPORT SELECTED to activiate.  I disconnect the camera (appropriately) and try to exit out of iPhoto only to have a warning tell me to wait until Import is complete.  No photos ever show up and no import ever completes.  I can't force quit so have to hard quit and restart my computer.  What to do?

    As a Test:
    Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
    Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

    So i have firefox on windows 8.1
    year and a half no problem
    ( only thing i added recently was ad-aware and spybot )
    anyhow that was 2+ weeks ago
    Watching hulu n youtube no problem
    all of a sudden i start having problems today.
    Reinstalled firefox
    uninstalled all adobe addons
    heres where im at
    Every Ad (not the acual video but the ads that play before )
    either it turns all green with purple and white noise
    or page goes all slow and has errors
    on hulu if i refresh 3 times it will skip the ads and Play my movie
    But NONE OF THE Ads will play
    but video will play
    have tried all other posts

    Thank you for your question. I understand that you have installed ad aware and a spybot two weeks ago and the advertisements on hulu will not play. I also understand that when you download that the last 1% will not finish.
    In order to fix the problem, try disabling the scanning as follows:
    # In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
    # Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page. A list of settings should appear
    # Filter the list by typing in the search bar at the top. Type in scanWhenDone. You should now find the browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone preference.
    # Double-click on that preference to set the value to false.
    # Next, try to download something and see if it still hangs.

  • Printer Paused Errors all of the sudden

    I network to a printer both at home and at work and have had no problems whatsoever until today -- and now I have problems with both. The method of connecting is completely different: at work I connect to the network via an ethernet cable, as does the printer (i.e. it is a true network printer). At home, the printer is connected to an old eMac which shares its connection over the WiFi network. Oh yes, two utterly different printers - A Dell 5200 at work and an old Epson Stylus CX3200 at home.
    My problem is that the printer immediately pauses when a print job is set. If I restart the printer and the job, I get a client-error-not-possible message. I try again and I get an error message from CUPS: usr/libexec/cups/backend/mdns failed
    I have reset the printing system multiple times and tried to add the (home) printer again (via bonjour) but get the same error results. I will try tomorrow at work but am expecting the same frustrations.
    My wife can still print fine at home from her old iBook on 10.4.11 over the network.
    Why would I have problems all of the sudden like this? The only thing I changed is, like an obedient little monkey, I installed the newest Security Update that Software Update told me to install. Could this have screwed something up? Any help would be much appreciated, this is very frustrating.

    Well, I've figured out a provisional work around, at least at home (will try the office printer in a bit). If, instead of connecting via bonjour as I did until yesterday, I connect via Line Printer Daemon and type in the afp of the desktop to which the printer is connected, it does work. But I have to choose "Generic Postscript Printer" under driver -- I am guessing that this is because the Power PPC (running 10.4) to which the printer is connected does not recognize the Gutenprint driver for the Stylus CX3200 which would be the natural choice from my MacBook. (If I select this driver and print, my computer thinks the printing has been successful, but nothing actually prints.)
    By contrast, on Bonjour, it automatically selects the older, PPC driver that is already installed on the desktop computer connected to the printer. But this driver is apparently not an option from my MacBook using 10.5.6 when using LPD.
    At any rate, this seems to work for now, but I still suspect that the Software Updates I installed yesterday screwed up the way in which my computer communicates with other devices on a local network: I have also had intermittent "connection failures" when I try to connect to a shared device via its icon on the sidebar in Finder.
    I would still be very grateful for any thoughts on why I was getting the "Printer Paused" error (and, of course, I still don't know for certain that I'm going to be able to figure out a similar work around for my office network printer).

                                 c) application (i.e. Logic)
                                 b) sub program's (i.e. plugins)
    could all together trigger the cause.
    So a lot more info would  certainly  help us to make some sort of intelligent guess.

    Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
    So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
    either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

    iPhone 5S: does anybody has this problem. During a successful voice call all of a sudden people can't hear me while I can hear them. Signal is strong and call quality (me hearing the other) is still very good but it looks as if I’m going on mute while I’m not muting my iPhone. When dropping the call and re-dialing it works fine again. It’s a brand new iPhone 5S but it now happened already 4 or 5 times in 2 days.
    It feels like a hardware/iOS problem and not a network issue. It happend with iOS7.03 but I just see 7.0.4 is available so will install that one now.
