Lots of publishing problems following site split

Hi,
I'm having lots of problems publishing my iWeb site. I have quite a big site (~100 pages, >1Gb) and it was becoming a bit difficult to maintain. So, I decided to split my site into several sections. First of all, I had lots of problems just doing this - specifically, when I tried to drag over a "My Albums" page containing several albums, and my blog page (lots of entries), iWeb seem to become corrupted. I couldn't open some of the pages (in iWeb), and when I closed iWeb down it wouldnt reopen properly. Thank god for TimeCapsule!
So, I restored my domain site from backup and started again. Anyhow, I eventually realised that I wouldnt have problems, if I first moved the ALbum pages from under the MyAlbum page, and moved them individually....but same problem with my blog. Eventually I figured out that I could keep my blog in my original site, move everything else, then rename the two sites. This seemed to work, at least, no errors or crashing, BUT since then, I haven't been able to publish. The red pages dont turn red, and the html files dont appear on my iDisk.
I've tried everything that I can find suggesting on the forum:
- I dont have problem saving other files to iDisk
- I dont have a problem publishing to a local disk
- I've deleted the plist files, repaired permissions and rebooted.
I restored my original domain file and was able to publish that, but since the changes, nothing. I dont get any error messages - iWeb happily chugs away supposedly creating and publishing the pages, they just dont seem to turn up at their intended destination.
I cant think of anything else to try - anyone got any good ideas?
Thanks a lot.

Hi mate, I have a website with 92 pages (2.6GB) and have experienced exactly the same dramas. It takes ages to publish and then just when you think you are home - it aborts and gives some temporary file error message. I have been to the Genius Bar at Apple, who have not acknowledged there is a problem until I show them these forum pages. Then they huddle together and go through the threads shielding their screens!
I tried to split my site to then only publish smaller sections, as I have encountered the familiar problem of change 1 part of a page and the whole site turns red and so wants to republish the entire site even when you select Publish Site Changes. I have tried Web Site Maestro to upload only 1 Folder (ie page) at a time - and no joy. I have tried using CyberDuck to get around this - and no joy.
I appreciate that this isn't helping you, but at least you know you aren't alone. And it is highly frustrating to say the very least.

  • Problem in Publishing to INTERNAL site in se80

    Hi All,
I have created an Internet Service in Se80. Now i need to publish it in INTERNAL site.
My problem is that INTERNAL is not available in the drop down list.
Utilities-> Settings->Under Tab "Internet Transaction Server" -> Publish " ON Selected Site".
What i need to do, In order to get that in the drop down list.
    Thanks in advance.
    Pradeep Alex Luke

    Hi Pradeep,
It seems that you do not have a RFC Destination called "INTERNAL".
You should have such entry as Connection type = L (Logical Destination).
You may search for this entry in table RSEUMOD, field "ITS_RFCD".
    I hope this helps.

  • Publish Error - An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/X"

    Hello everyone,
I've been using mac for about 10 years now and have finally decided to try out this iWeb application. Spent several hours putting the site together... fun... but when I hit the publish button, the following error popped up.
    Publish Error
An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/X". (X being my site name which also happens to be my .mac account name.
So I've spent another 3 hours trying it over and over again but still no luck. So I've searched this forum and see if there's any tips. Found a lot of solutions but none of them seem to help. I've deleted all the folders and file on my 'Sites' folder on the iDisk. Closed all running apps before hitting the 'Publish' button. And I've even deleted all my work and tried just to upload the 'welcome' page. Still doesn't work.
I'm getting a bit annoyed... Are there any solutions for my problem??
    I'm using a PowerBook G4 12" 1.33GHz Mac OS X 10.4.9 with iWeb 1.1.2
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

     PowerBook G4 12" 1.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Probably not. No big deal, really. The important thing is we have been able to get your site on the .Mac server, albeit in the homepage directory.
Ok here's your last assignment. This will also take awhile, but when you are finished your site will be up on .Mac and accessible using the web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename url.
Since you have already initiated a publish to .Mac from iWeb, the root directory for iWeb should be on your iDisk. You should be able to navigate to the iWeb folder following this path:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/SiteFolder
"SiteFolder" should be a folder named for the site you are having trouble publishing.
On your desktop, open the Site folder that iWeb delivered when you published the original site using the Publish to a Folder... command. You will see a number of folders in there and a number of page.html files. Drag each of these into the Site Folder mentioned earlier, on the iDisk. (The one named for the site). The root index.html file, (the one published outside of the Site folder) needs to be placed in the Web/Sites folder; you should see it in the column above the iWeb folder when done. Basically, you are "manually" uploading your site. It's cumbersome and a royal pita, but if successful, this exercise will confirm what I have suspected all along:
The problem is a latency/time-out error. (The actual error message itself is misleading and somewhat immaterial--iWeb probably chose it randomly). Lots of things contribute to it, but basically, iWeb gets tired of waiting on the WebDav protocol and then generates an error message. I wish I could be more specific, but that's about as close as I can get to the core issue. Many folks publish successfully from your area of the world; just keep trying, and when all else fails, you can always swap out the changed files manually following the method outlined above.

  • IWeb doesn't publish my entire site to a local folder!!!

    Hello everybody,
a few months now i have a problem on publishing my iweb sites to a local folder! For example i have a website that is 40 pages. When i press to publish it on a local folder, it starts publishing, and then i have "an unknown error occurred". When i check the folder, it has about 25-30 published pages and the others are missing. I tried with another site, that is about 10 pages and worked fine. But site with more pages have problem!
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks a lot!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Launch the Console utility and see what, if any, messages regarding iWeb have been recorded. You might event watch it as you're trying to publish.
Also you can try the following:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
    If that doesn't help continue:
5 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
6 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
7 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
8 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
9 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Another user with publishing problems -- proof that it is .Mac related

Just before Christmas I started getting the dreaded "Publish Error: There was an error updating .Mac" message every time I published. I read all the previous posts, even the ones dating back to October. I think I can conclusively show that the problem is on the .Mac backend, and not at all on my computer. Here is what I did: first, I created a temporary .Mac account; second, I moved my Domain file for safe keeping and did not replace it; third, I logged into the Guest User account that is now available in Leopard. I then attempted to publish a single page website from iWeb from both my normal login and the guest login to both my normal .mac account and the temporary one. (To switch between .Mac accounts I used the system preferences panel when iWeb was not running). The results are as follows:
    .......................Regular .Mac.......Temporary .Mac
    Normal Login..Publish Failed......Publish Succeeded
    Guest Login.....Publish Failed......Publish Succeeded
This tells me that there is no problem on my computer, or with my network connection, and the problem is squarely on the .Mac side of things.
I sent this message off to the standard help page, and got the standard form letter back. In reply I asked them to reset my .Mac account so it would appear "new". I'll see what they say.
It would be interesting to see how many other people with "publish" problems can repeat this test.
    -=[doug]=-

I've done what appears to be the standard littany of things:
    1) Confirmed that I am running the latest version of iWeb (2.02) on 10.5.1 (although the problem persists when using my backup of 10.4.10 that includes the ilife update)
    2) Changed my .Mac password, even though it was less than 20 characters
    3) Published all of my previous website to the temp .mac (in chunks to avoid the space limitations)
    4) Successfully published my site to a folder
    5) Successfully uploaded that folder to my iDisk
    6) Attempted to republish and republish all multiple times
    7) Deleted iWeb's plist
    8) rebooted
    9) logged out and back into my .Mac account
    10) confirmed that there is no password protection on my site
    11) confirmed that there are no comments on my site
    12) deleted assets.[membername].plist from the Domain file
    13) Confirmed that my password in Keychain is correct
    14) Run Keychain First Aid
    15) deleted Sites.RSS from my iDisk
    16) deleted the website and index.html from the iDisk
So, I have done a fair amount of ground work here, and am not just spouting off against Apple/.Mac. However, I still claim that the fact that I can successfully publish to a temporary .Mac account while the exact same iWeb content fails when being published to my normal .Mac account implies that there is something wrong with my .Mac account -- it is almost as if Apple is trying to eliminate its paying customers (since there are no problems with the free account).

Updated to Adobe Muse 2014 this morning and have worked in it for the last 8 hours. Now when I try to publish the updated site to Business Catalyst for my client to preview it crashes everytime. I have tried just publishing altered files only, then tried the whole site again, and then tried publishing as a new site altogether. Thought I would then try to export as HTML in the hope of uploading the files via an FTP client and Muse crashes and locks up again. I am extremely stressed about this as I am in the last few days of of website I have been working on now with no issues since December. We are due to go live and my client needs to see it. I am desperate for an answer. It is not looking good. I am on an Apple Mac and have not had any isses publishing it for the last 6 months. Not very happy to say the least. Need desperate help.

Hi Zak, I got onto Adobe Customer Care Live Chat this morning and gave them the error message. After some trouble shooting with them it appears the older archived file of the site still publishes. I have now reverted back to the old file and copied and pasted out of the new file and from some ideas given to me by support I am now able to publish to Business Catalyst. It seems there was something corrupt within the new pages added yesterday. I have no idea if this would have still happened if I hadn't updated but I am glad it wasn't a Muse specific problem. I am loving using Muse and the support from Adobe has been excellent. Thanks everyone. By the way I do love the new version and apart from this hick up that lost me a few hours, aged me some more and gave me grey hair I really love Muse. Thanks again.

  • How can I publish just ONE site

Everytime I create a new site and publish it to a folder (to place in my own domain) iWeb publishes ALL of the sites every time, no matter whether changes have been made to any site or not.
How do I publish just ONE site?
If I get mobile.me, will I be able to publish just the ONE site I wish to publish?
    Phil

I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/Jim and Steph's Si

I'm guessing this is a common message most see when they try to publish their website. Reason I say this, is it is the only message I have recieved in the last week when trying to use this faulty software.
Here it is again if you missed it:
An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Jim and Steph's Site/Jim's Blog”.
I got this MacBook week ago yesterday. Totally excited to share pictures and blog information. Spent 99 dollars or close to it for a mac account to simply share this information on the web. The first four pages (all pictures), I published worked well. Then I updated to iWeb 1.1.1 and tried to publish with blogs and more pictures and it won't work. Now all that I published before does not even come up. I emailed support here on mac.com and got the generic reply that I have already read on this forum. I tired as many fixes as I could to no avail. Two questions:
    1. Any ideas to fix this problem?
    2. Can you get your money back?
    Sorry this was so long.
    Thanks everyone,
    Jim B

    Jim...
Try doing a "Publish All to .Mac" if nothing else works for you. And if I could make a recommendation, it probably wouldn't be a bad thing to simplify your site name (Jim and Steph's Site) and eliminate the apostrophes (also in Jim's Blog). A longer site URL with complexities such as punctuation and spaces and even capitalization can potentially wreak havoc on your site navigation and function. Simplifying your site and page names will at the very least lead to shorter and more recognizable URLs...and when you start to add more pages it will also make the navigation menu at the top of your pages look "cleaner". Think simple names, like "oursite" and "HeSays" or "SheSays"
    Just a suggestion.

  • How do I remove old web site when publishing new site with same URL in iweb? Hit replace when publishing new iweb site (so we could have control over changes) but new site name is attached to old via a / after our www address we want to keep.

I hit the replace when publishing the new iweb site (so we could have control over changes - last one was not an apple based site) but new site name is attached to old via a forward slash and underscore after our www address. Makes it very messy with a very long web address.  Original address now followed by iweb site name followed by name of first page? Went for iweb as not that computer literate - all going so well?! Cheers for help in anticipation. Have to get off to work now but be great end to week if we could be sorted tonight. Rupes

Well yes of course, if you try and publish through iWeb there won't be an option to publish without your site folder which is exactly why I told you to download Cyberduck and use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server having published your site from iWeb to a local folder.  That is what you need to do if you don't want your site name to be included in yoru url.
It would have been easier also if you had used Cyberduck initially to connect to your server and delete your old site yourself - at least that way you would have deleted the correct files rather than relying on your hosting service to do it and doing it incorrectly.
Download Cyberduck and then select the publish to a local folder option from iWeb and then use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server, but rather than uploading the whole site folder and separate index file, upload ONLY the contents of your site folder and then your url will be http://www.domain.com/page_name.html.
    It really isn't rocket science!

  • Can't publish my iWeb site - has index file something to do with it?

Hi, I've been trying to publish my iWeb site (not on a .Mac account but through ftp upload) but it hasn't worked out so far... I phoned my webspace provider's support service and the wguy I spoke to was convinced that it's due to the index file not being an .html file (he thought that the problem lies with the index.xml.gz file). Searching the discussions on this site, I figure that this isn't what's causing the problem after all...
To continue working on the site while using another computer, I copied the 'Domain' over. Now that I've brought it back to the original computer, it seems to be causing these problems. Any idas what I could do or where the problem lies? I'd be really grateful for any hints as it's driving me 'round the bend! Cheers, A

Did you name any of your site's pages "index"?  That can cause problems.
Are you able to publish your site to afolder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser?  If you haven't tried  do so and see if you can.  If you can and the site works as you designed it then the issue is in the uploading of the files.
In that case you might try using  Cyberduck to upload your site folder and  index.html file to your server.

  • Issues with publishing my iWeb site to .MAC - Progress bar freezes at 100%

Well, as topic says, i'm having troubles publishing my iWeb site to .MAC now since upgrading to '08. The progress bar reaches full circle, but then nothing. Left it uploading to .Mac for well over 2 hours one time while out of the house...nada. Sometimes i get an error message, sometimes not and have to close iWeb while it's still publishing.
    Any feedback regarding this?
    Thanks in advance.
    /Rich

Update: After 36 hours, I have successfully managed to upload my entire website via the "Publish All to .Mac" option. I now have blue indicators on the left side of my iWeb program in place of those pesky red ones. How did I do it? Well, I'm not sure. But on my last attempt I looked at the problem from a different perspective, so I took an alternate approach. I had a feeling that I was experiencing a network timeout issue caused by a 3rd party software, so I created a Whitelist entry on my website filtering software that allows unlimited access to "idisk.mac.com";; and "web.mac.com";; domains. I've got two kids at home, so I'm running the free OpenDNS Dashboard service on my network which provides content filtering (blocks adult site, phishing site, etc..). I started using this service two weeks ago. My last website update was a week before that. I figured I had nothing to loose by trying. To my surprise, it worked. Now, it took almost two hours to publish, of which the pie indicator was in the  "filled" position for a nerve racking hour. To reconfirm,  I then made a minor change to one of the pages on my website and re-published. This time using the "Publish to .Mac" option in place of the ALL option and once again it worked. It took less than 5 minutes. Now, I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, maybe Apple fixed the problem, or maybe my website filtering service was causing some type of time out issue all along??  Don't know.. But at least for now, I'm a happy camper since I have my site up.

Doing the following wouldn't hurt either:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

  • Remove reference to Publishing Feature from site template

Hi all, I have a custom site collection which I package as a wsp to deploy as a custom solution template to multiple sites.
Accidentally, years ago I've activated Publishing Features in my site template and then disabled them. I still work and create new templates from my site without any problems (ShP 2010).
Now, I've installed SharePoint 2013 and updated my site template to 2013. Then, I've created the new wsp but when I try to apply my template to a new site collection I receive an error message: "Failed to instantiate file "AlternateMediaPlayer.xaml"
from module "Style LibraryMedia Player_Features\PublishingResources": Source path "Features\PublishingResources\AlternateMediaPlayer.xaml" not found."
How could I remove all the reference to features belonging to Publishing Features?

    Hi Elena_B,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to remove reference to publishing feature from site template in SharePoint 2013.
You can do as the followings:
extract all files from WSP file by (a tool or) changing the wsp file to cab file and then extract all files to a working folder.
edit the Onet.xml file to remove the unsupported features and save the changes.
create a ddf file for makecab.exe to repack the wsp
run cmd: makecab /f my.ddf to generate the new WSP file
