Lots of ram wasted

Once I close a program with Control+C, it doesn't clear the ram. I have 1.4GB ram in use right now. But the system is only using around 300-400MB of ram from what I'm seeing in TAB.
Is there a way to clear the RAM that is not in use (Reset, etc) so I don't have to reboot each time this happens.

The rest of it is buffers and cached memory. There's no need for you to do anything with it; Linux will release it when it needs it. The only thing important for you is the 300-400MB. My system is showing 2GB of used RAM, but only 410MB of it is reserved (necessary).

    Problem description:
My computer is using a lot of RAM. Wondering if there’s a hardware issue, or a software issue, or something else. I currently have no programs open in the Doc, besides EntreCheck. and the RAM is showing about 75% used. I’m looking for suggestions on what I can do to speed it up and make it more functional, and efficient for doing design work. I recently upgraded from the original 4GB RAM (2x2GB), and from the original HD to a 512 GB SSD drive, and upgraded to Yosemite. Perhaps that was too much for this machine? Please help with anything that I can do to make it better! Thanks in advance!
I have a recent back-up, I'm open to saving user files and starting from scratch with the current hardware, etc... but would need some direction on how to do this. I did upgrade myself using Apple provided instructions.
    Here are the EntreCheck results:

Here's the new EtreCheck that I just ran. At a glance, it seems I may have missed deleting some things or they are stored in an additional location? I haven't jumped into anything yet to really test if there's a difference in performance for me. Once I do I will post that information.

Hello! After installing catalyst from Violo's repo i have noticed that Xorg.bin use a lot of ram(when i start the laptop it is 25mb but it keep rising till it get to 1.5gb in about 2h and I restart to free memory) This is on X-server 1.7 and now i downgrade to 1.16.4 but no effect. Can someone help me please. Thank you!

The nicer way to do this is to use the [catalyst-stable-14.X] repository databases in this manner (where you replace X with the corresponding number):
    [catalyst-stable-14.X]
    Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/catalyst/$arch

No idea. Ask the AMD Developers upstream.

I have tried safe mode boot, NVRAM and PRAM reset but no luck...

First, try a Safe Mode boot.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes a longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from your Apple () menu.
If that didn't help, reintall OS X..
Restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built-in utilities in OS X Recovery

  • WhatsApp on E72 consuming a lot of RAM

I have observed that WhatsApp consumes a lot of RAM on my E72. So much so that I can't even use Maps or browse heavy pages. To free up the RAM, I need to switch it off but even though I exit the program, it still is running in back ground and consuming the RAM.
Is there any way that I can close this program ? Currently I am using NetQin to close it but its a very lengthy process.
Also if any of you are using an equally good program kindly inform so that I can switch over.
    Using Nokia Lumia 1320.
    Also have Nokia E72 & Nokia N8.

    anyone with appropriate response?!!

  • Need lots of RAM

My jvm really plays nice with other programs. How can I tell it to be piggish and take lots of RAM?

    dminter:
Thanks again. You were exactly right. Piping the results of this slightly less trivial program shows that the jvm grabs a minimal initial heap, and then expands, up to the stated max, as needed. This one dies with .25G in the heap and 3MB left free if called with -Xmx256M.

  • Lots of RAM, how to use it?

    Hello everyone
Does anyone have any experience of running two instances from the same SAP system on a single Linux server in order to make use of a lot of available RAM? The situation is as follows:
    - SAP R/3 4.6C, Oracle DB on 64-bit proprietary UNIX
    - 3 app servers on 32-bit Intel processors running SLES 9, with 12GB of RAM each
    - 3 small SAP instances with approximately 20 work processes each
    - Each instance uses standard zero administration memory management (EM of 500MB, etc.) in order to make best use of shared memory, given the 32-bit address space limitations.
The SAP app instances don't use a lot of the underlying available memory so we see a free memory value of ~ 6GB on each server. What is the best way to make use of these unused memory resources? This is what I can think of:
    1. increase the number of work processes on the already existing instances. Since Linux uses late swap allocation any additional memory load from additional WPs will tend to consume physical memory rather than swap space.
    2. install a second SAP instance on each app server to make use of the available memory.
The main issue I can think of with the latter option is that it duplicates buffers, which is a waste but it also lessens the load on the existing buffers which are limited in size due to a 32-bit address space. Does anyone have a different idea to add to the list?
    Thanks for your input,
    Dáithí

In the case of having extra RAM, to get better performance is suggested to install more Dialog instances, or Apps instances for the production instance or the slowest instance.

  • Apple Contacts Uses a lot of RAM?

Since installing Mt Lion, and when running Contacts, I keep getting a lot of diskactivity, machine slows way down, and this one app uses 5GB of 6GB ram. What is going on?

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution? Whenever I try to scan more than a few pages at a time, my computer slows down to a crawl.
I think the issue stems from the Overview scan, which goes directly into memory...One overview scan took Image Capture's RAM usage from ~18 MBs to over 200. After a second Overview scan, RAM was up from 210.4 MBs to 390.2 MBs. A third takes it from 386.5 to 476.0.
Obviously, this is a major issue, as I only have 2 GBs of RAM. I know that I can get 4 GBs, although RAM prices are high at the moment, but the fact that this program still takes up so much is not good. Is there a way that I can "purge" old overview scans from RAM?

  • Why Firefox Has Spikes In CPU Usage And Consumes A Lot Of RAM Since Security Update?

After applying security update 3.6.18 i started having this problem. I had this problem earlier but it only happened after several days Firefox was opened constantly. Now i have this problem several hours later after launching Firefox.

'''[http://i.stack.imgur.com/tjsqt.png Here is a picture of high RAM and CPU usage]'''
    I have Flash disabled.
What is going on? Should i reinstall Firefox 3.6.18?

Have you any particular reason for using an older version of Firefox.
Whilst I rarely use firefox 3.6 now, and do not know the answer I will comment that the now unsupported firefox 4 did have bad memory problems in some cases. Some of those problems were addressed in firefox 5, and others are addressed in Firefox 7, which is due out on the Aurora channel next week.
You could consider upgrading to a newer version of firefox. If you need firefox3.6 only for limited use you could consider using Firefox portable, alongside a newer version of Firefox.

    I used command:
    ''about:memory''
And was presented with a modules/extension tree and i don't understand what each means. Does anybody here have experience or knowledge about this here who could tell me where may be the problem?

  • Mac Pro use a lot of RAM?

Does the new Mac Pros Universal Binary Programs use more RAM than the G5 PowerMac?

    Overly simplificatiion.
And for many applications, they would still be compiled with 32-bit switch on, they don't need to address 4GB of memory. The GUI is still really not fully 64-bit even.
But code tricks and methods that worked well for the G4 and limited address space, those don't work as well and code is loaded and compiled differently (or should have been). The lack of L3 hurt some too and took a hit in performance and latency making for lack-luster memory performance sub-par from what was expected, and that could be be curied without moving to a new platform or design.
But the MacPro and G5 do probably need about 1.5GB of RAM to run smoothly, which means you have to install 2GB in the MacPro - just for basic use and needs. While waiting for a 2nd GB to ship from Apple my system was constantly using over 900MB from just casual use (web browsing, word processing, email).
I've never been able to figure out how much Rosetta needs, but it seems that it has its own address space and VM all its own.
With CS3 beta running well already, that was something I'm sure Apple wanted as well as all the users holding off - wouldn't surpise me if a lot of help and pressure was put to bear.

  • MSI ge70 2OE, bad performance, a lot of RAM used

Hello ! I have a problem with my computer. It's slow, even if I'm only on Firefox for instance. Even with no software opened, used RAM can be 30-40% in the task manager. I noticed that I have important Nonpaged pool and cache memory. Here are some pictures :

Is this a memory leak ? And what are these service host ?
In Starcraft 2, when I got the PC I could play with max settings and now I must play in low with 50-100 fps... Something is definitely wrong.
It would be really nice if some of you could help me. Thank you

Well I seriously doubt it. A 1200€ computer shouldn't be lagging on Firefox, or it's the biggest scam of the century. 40% RAM used when nothing is open is normal ? Moreover, the nonpagined pool is increasing with the time. I think it's a memory leak...
And how do I check if the game is using the nvidia card ?
My GT70 with 16 gigs of ram consistently is using 14.9 GB when I have Steam open with about 40 firefox tabs (most of them this forum actually). That is rather normal. Unused RAM is sort of a waste.
If the laptop is feeling slow, the first thing I would do is get CPU-Z, CoreTemp, and MSI Afterburner. Make sure that all your temperatures are correct, and that the CPU is running at the proper frequency. It sounds like the system is being throttled because it's too hot to be perfectly honest.
