Lots of weird Single-Frame offset errors lately

Hi Everyone,
I have been fighting some mighty germlins of late.  At first, I though the issue was isolated, but it appears to be spreading - or at least not as isolated as I first thought.
The problems began when I was asked to employ the use of the CC Twister plugin on a project for use as a text transition.  When I initially set it up, it worked great, but I found I needed to adjust the timing.  When I dragged a keyframe to facilitate this, I found that the text would either not resolve where it should, instead animating up to the upper left corner (0,0) or if it didn't resolve there, it would simply pop up there for a single frame at some point during the transition.  I found that changing ANYTHING would cause this... even if I kept the timing alone and disabled the layer's track matte; and I didn't have to undo, I could just put the property back like it was and it would work again.  Obviously, I tried deleting the effect, and applying it anew - same results...   I then tried cleaning all the cache files, applying the effect anew once more, and again... same results.  There was no rhyme or reason to it... nothing that appeared to be driving the issue.  In fact, at one point I could RAM preview the comp, and it looked correct, but the problem would pop up again when rendering... despite changing nothing in the comp.  So, I simply had to presume that this effect had a bug of some sort, rendering it useless pending an update.
So then, last night, I had a similar issue during rendering with Trapcode Form.  Whenever I would do quarter or half res previews, things were working as expected... then I'd do a full res export and some of the forms would jump wildly from one frame to the next... always for just one frame, but often several scattered individual frames would be effected.  When I'd go back into the comp after the render, the errors were 'baked in' as though they has always been there... though they most definitely had not.  In this case, the issue started when I enabled multi-processing (it was never on in the first example with CC Twister above).  It occured to me that in THAT case, since one core might be rendering a frame two or three frames ahead of another core, and said core therefore perhaps didn't have the necessary data from the preceeding frame, the position would be incorrectly calulated.  A similar phenomenon occurs in C4D with certain generators when rendering out of sequence, necessitating baking of the solution.... Whether or not this is the case, the fact that the error actually affected the comp post render is really unsettling.  After turning off Multi-Processing, I was able to to export a clean full-res render without any issue.  So, I thought it odd that I was having similar issues with entirely different circumstances at play, but again had to assume these were isolated and that THIS issue was simply a matter of the notoriously unstable AE multi-processing rearing once more its not ready for prime time head.
That brings me to today.  I was asked by my client to give a little subtle movement to the text layers in my scene.  I wanted to try a couple of things... a subtle wiggle on the text layer itself, or using the similar function from the plugin Sure Target, in case they wanted the movement to be on more elements than just the text, I could easily add new elements to the movement by making them 3D layers.  So I made 2 new comps to test, find the right settings, and decide if there was a technique I preferred.  On the text layer itself, I was able to apply the wiggle with some experession controls, no problems at all.  In my second comp, when I employed the use of Sure Target (which itself uses thw Wiggle Experssion with controls), I found that my text would, at some random frame, suddenly pop over to X-0, and nothing I could would prevent it.
So there it is... 3 different situations in the last few days... different variables at play in each one, but a similar issue.  The only commonality here is that all 3 issues involved 3rd party plugins, though all from different companies (Cycore, Red Giant, and Video Copilot), so maybe there is something to that... but there has to be more to it.
My next step is to try and replicate these issues at home, just to rule out the very unlikely possibility that this machine is the culprit.
Appogies for the length of this post - I know that will prevent some of you from reading it, but for those who do and can perhaps offer some theories or insights, I truly appreciate it.

FWIW the system I am using is a 2013 iMac 3.4GHz i7 with 16GB of RAM running OSX 10.8.4 and the latest version of Creative Cloud.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the repsonses.  Todd, my versions for everything are as follows:
After Effects 12.0.0.404
FORM 2.0.5
Cycore Effects HD 1.7.5
CC Twister 1.6
There are no updates available for AE, the version we have of FORM is actually higher than what they have on their update pafe (they list 2.0.4), and the Cycore stuff is integtrated now, so I would expect any updates along those lines to be delivered via CC desktop.
So, whatever is causing the issue(s), I don't think versions are behind it.  Even though the cache bugs that Mylenium referenced have been tended too, perhaps not all the bugs have been squashed.  When I'm back in that project, I will try disabling the cache and fast previews to see if it makes a difference.

  • MXF frame read errors and general render errors since update to CC

    Hi there folks,
Being a Creative Cloud member for a while now I share the benefits of immediate updates of CC products. However, I also get to deal with the downsides, it seems.
Since I updated to CC versions of the entire Adobe Collection I experienced unprecedented trouble with After Effects. I'll mention the most pertinent errors:
    - I used to render short compositions to uncompressed HD Quicktime, functioning as a master render for future sorts of output for my clients or just to have optimum quality before further conversions. For some reason AE CC has been generating all sorts of video dropouts lately, especially when audio render is set to 'auto'. Furthermore I noticed that the only audio res that I can choose in case of an uncompressed QT render is 8000 Hz. This is new in AE CC, I don't understand the reason for this modification since the previous AE versions never had this limitation.
I must mention the fact that other output formats and codecs also suffer from dropouts, be it less frequently than QT uncompressed.
    - Imported MXF files from my customers which I incorporate in AE compositions are also full of dropouts. Every dropout shows up as a single frame (two fields) of red or black. Premiere Pro encounters the same problem and reports the dropouts as frames with a read or decode error. I checked some older MXF files in previous AE projects that have been rendered and delivered perfectly in the past, but these old MXFs now appear to have the same issue. I tested the older and the new MXF on another PC that wasn't updated to CC versions and found no dropouts at all. Something must have changed in the updated codecs that belong to the CC version. All MXFs play fine in VLC player on all systems, so it's not the video source being faulty. Anyone recognize this?
I do get notifications of CC product updates, but is there a way to just update the codecs? Maybe there is a better codec for MXF.
    Any help is truy appreciated!

Like often, it's better to wait a little until there's enough people experiencing the same problem. So everyone here: thanks for responding to my post! In the end it seems to have helped, considering the update of Adobe. I am still a little precautious, because some MXFs give no red frames at all (input side I'm talking about) and others still do, but then the strange thing is that scrubbing the MXFs forth and back a bit results in having less red frames to none at all in the end. The red frames now disappear and then re-appear on different points in time of the MXF file, whereas I always found them being bound to specific and unchanging points, especially on the first frame of a scene change for instance.
Anyway, Adobe Media Encoder is not suffering from this problem, so there is a workaround, converting the footage before using it in AE and Premiere. That's good enough for now. But the problem hasn't vanished yet. Another problem that I had with rendering uncompressed HD Quicktime videos that always generated dropouts has all of a sudden magically disappeared. Thanks Adobe. I see progress.

  • How to use single frame in a page

Hello, i would like to now how to make a frame in a page
without having two or more, i was used to work with GoLive and
there i could use the grid an put a single frame and make links to
other pages that would open in that frame, it worked wel for me,
but since I switched from golive to dreamweaver CS3 i am not able
to do so. Is there some one how could tel me how to do so, since i
use a lot of single frames in my pages,
    greetings

why are you wanting to use single frames?
They allow having the initial frame address stay in the
    address bar, and not
show the linked page's address. The problems they cause
    usually override any
    value.
Or- if we aren't using the same words the same way, please
    give an example
site of what you want to do.

  • Frame Offset not working

    Hi all
I'm running FCP 5.1.4 on a dual 2.3 G5, OS X 10.4.9, QT 7.1.5, with a BlackMagic DeckLink HD Pro card (driver v6.1) component out to a broadcast LCD. I'm using an M-Audio MobilePre USB for audio with its latest driver (1.6.5) and "Medium Latency" out to powered monitor speakers.
I'm unable to get playback sync of sound and picture, and the Frame Offset (System Settings>Playback Control>Frame Offset makes no difference. Even at extreme settings the sync error remains the same (approx 2-3 frames).
I know I should be monitoring through the BlackMagic's SPDIF out, but I don't currently have any way to amplify that signal. I also know USB audio is probably asking for trouble, but this should work with the right offset, no?
    Anyone shed any light?

You should be using audio that follows the video, else you'll get latency. Frame Offset is for those times when deck control might be off... certain HD signals and old rs422 caused this.
Your best bet is to figure out how to amplify the signal out of the decklink card.

  • Single frame goes ungraded in middle of clip

    Hi!
I'm having a curious case of a single frame (well a few, actually - however not one-after-the-other) that goes back to it's ungraded state in the middle of a graded clip.
This is a screen recording of the problem - password is "sg"
    URL: https://vimeo.com/76040782
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
    Footage is .r3d
    EDIT:
Just realized this seems to happen on a few clip which I've earlier got the error: "Frame index is out of range" - so I've changed the reel timebase from "Deafault" to "Frame indices" to make the shot appear in the monitor.
    - still, I have no clue why this is happening and what to do about it, so any suggestions are welcomed

Internal speakers....I'm out of the warranty period. I think I've identified the root of the problem...seems to be with clips whose audio is of a low sample rate...I rexported the clips from Mpeg Streamclip at 44.1 and it's ok now...unless that was a coincidence.

  • Master Template Drop Zone Causes Frame Offset Problem

I created a template in Motion with two drop zones. When I use it in Final Cut as a master template, and drop in two video clips, the clips are offset about 4 frames from the originals. I can see this when I toggle the template's track on and off to see the underlying clips that got dropped in from my timeline. The cut points don't match up to what winds up in the template's dropzones for some reason.
This is a problem, because I'm using the template as a transition between full screen and a PIP-type effect.
The weird frame offset causes a visual glitch that I have to correct by adjusting the start/end points. This is extremely time consuming, as I have to apply the template to a huge number of clips.
I'm using the latest version of Final Cut Studio.

Just discovered that the frame offset increases the further I am into a clip.
I took a part from the beginning.. frame offset = 2 frames.
Took one closer to the end of a 4 minute clip.. frame offset = 14 frames.
The video is encoded in ProRes422 at 29.97 fps, and the Motion template is 29.97 also. Any ideas?

  • Duplicating a single frame

I want to duplicate a single frame tens of times so that it plays as a single stationary clip and you can put a crossfade on the end of it,  which you can't do if you just drop lots of identical frames to the timeline

    Tim,
Export the Frame. Depending on your version, this might need to be done in slightly different ways. If you do not have the option to Add to Project (differs by version), then Import it. Place it on the Timeline, and then click on the Tail, to extend as is needed.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Error creating frame 32631 (error -1)

So I shot this video of my friend's band. Single camera on a tripod, one long shot of about 26 minutes. Synced up some pro recorded audio, threw in some intro and outro titles.
Now trying to export. Each time I export, it gets about 70% of the way through when it stops and this warning window pops up-
'This operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 32631 (error -1).'
Tried a few times using different settings and destinations, but all had the same resulting error message.
Any ideas as to how I can fix it or somehow export it?

  • VIDEO OUT OF SINGLE FRAMES ?

I use Premiere Pro CS5 to get video out of my 3d renderings. But I have a bad problem:
I can import numbered picture files to get a clip - which works fine. The single frames have been rendered already 1920x1080 for full HD video.
The problem is - I can´t get a playback within the preview or working window. While the cursor runs smoothly through the frames within the sequence window, the preview window jumps and shows some random frames only.
If I import the exported file back, it will playback smoothly without problem, this way my machine should be capable to do it as it is same resolution, only video instead of single frames.
Anything I can do to get smooth playback of image sequences ?
It doesn´t make much sense to export video first before being able to add sound as I don´t have any control for syncing while the clip is a numbered frame import only.

Thanks a lot for that hint - this way I should consider to get another HD - though there is plenty of  capacity on my 1 TB build in.
I don´t do much video editing yet - don`t even have a camcorder, just trying to do some 3D rendering videos. As these use to have few seconds only I never considered to get additional hd space for that.
Just made another observation - I did a 8 second test rendering overnight at 800 x 450 - this plays fine after being imported. It´s just the native HD rendered 1920 x 1080 that cause that trouble...

  • Premiere Pro CC won't render single frame cuts.

I'm cutting a corporate video with a glitchy treatment, so there are tons of shots that are only held for a single (or two) frames. When I want to render, the render sometimes only goes up to the single frame cut and then stops. No error messages. It doesn't crash (If I press cancel, it immediately puts me back into editing mode, with everything up to the single frame rendered). It just stops rendering.
    What gives? Help! D:

    OK.
Let's see a bit of the sequence where the issue lies.

  • Single Frame with Back and Next Jbutton support for Swing

    Hi All,
I need a help regarding to th JFrame.
I have to design a tool with Back and next button with a single frame. With Next button action i should move to a new Frame content and with Back button i should back to the previous one.
    How should i proceed?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    1) That's a Swing question. There a {forum:id=950} forum.
    2) This is a very common need. There is no built-in widget in the JDK, and a lot of custom approaches, including in libraries. Google for "Java Swing wizard"
    3) If you roll your own, the simplest way, as far as the GUI layer goes, is to stuff your panels in a CardLayout, and have your buttons switch the current "card". Very simple: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/layout/card.html
    4) The trick may be in keeping the "business logic" in sync (if for example panel 2 depends on processing info from panel 1). If you're new to java and Swing, make sure you understand objects and references

  • Converting a single frame swf to a gif

I have a couple of really cool animated 'shockwave flash
movie windows projector' images that i would love to convert into
animated gif's so that I can edit them to work in a theme I'm
designing for my sony ericsson w580i. I was finally able to convert
the exe files into swf's... but that didn't really do me any
good... same issue. Also upon further scrutiny I discovered that
both animated file types have only 1 frame! What should I do?!
    Please help!!

I've experienced the same thing sometime long in the past,
and I probably did a frame by frame Print Screen to get around it.
If it's single frame swf, then that's probably all you're going to
get is one frame as an output.
You may be able to incorporate a jpeg encoder of some sort to
take snapshots as the piece animates in some form of loop fashion,
but I'm not savvy in that dept.

  • HT200044 how to export a single frame in 10.0.6 - I cannot find option?

With 10.0.5 There was an option on "share" to pick a single frame from the timeline and export the image as a JPEG or other formats.  I do not find this option on the new version.

It works now, you need to go back to share and a new option is available that was created by the step you mentioned, listed as share frame one -- when selected, this allows for exporting the frame to the desktop!
    Thanks.

  • What's the simplest way to export a single frame from an animated gif as gif?

i have an animated gif and wish to save a single frame as a non-animated gif.
in the past i've been achieving this by deleting all the frames i don't wish to export and deleting them before exerting, this seems very clumsy though so i figure there's a more sensible solution in there somewhere, but where?

Thanks, Bill! Actually version 9 looks a little clearer than that, as it has two bold clear white paddles to mark the edge of the work area.
I was a little frustrated at first, because whatever I did, it still took a year and exported the entire video.
    Then:
I caught sight of this teeny tiny box waiting for a tick from me, which said:
    Share Work area Bar Only
    We have lift-off
Thanks again. So much quicker than all that deleting ahnd hoping you don't accidentally say "yes" when prompted to save changes!

  • Frame timeout error using Configure Trigger3.vi

    Hi all,
I'm triggering the frame capture of an .avi with an RTSI connection.  However, I keep getting a frame timeout error when I use the IMAQ Configure Trigger3.vi.  I don't get any timeout errors when I just use the IMAQ Generate Pulse3.vi but I am trying to sync the frame capture to an optical switch.  If I just use IMAQ Generate Pulse3.vi, I get a .avi but the frames are completely out of sync with the switch, but if I use both IMAQ Generate Pulse3.vi  and Configure Trigger3.vi I get nicely separated images but it takes an age and ends up in a timeout error.
I want to capture e.g. 500 frames, over the course of 2 s - so I've set my frame timeout to be 2000.   At my current acquisition rate (31680 Hz per line (1024 pixels)) 500 frames corresponds to a total of 1.578 s (images are 100 pxls in height).  This is much less than the total scanning time.  Where am I going wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hey Miika
What are the hardware you are using. These vi's only work with specific hardware and this may be why they are not functioning correctly. For example the Configure trigger3 vi only works with the following PCIe-1427, PCIe-1429, PCe-1430, PCIe-1433.
