Loud beeping noise when I turned the computer on

2 days after bringing my new macbook home I turned it on and there was a loud, continuous beeping sound which only stopped after I turned the computer off. It hasn't happened since then but is this something to worry about?

I have the same thing, and in addtion my keyboard and touchpad stopped working

    Are you hearing beeps?
What was the spec of the RAM?
What was the brand of RAM?
Have you double checked that the RAM is properly seated?

    thanks.

If your machine was made after 2009 you probably installed th wrong HD. Beginning in 2009 Apple began using HD's that had an integrated fan sensor. If you did not use one of these drives then that is the problem. You should contact OWC (www.macsales.com) or visit your local AASP and they will help you select the correct HD to use.

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

Okay, I seem to have solved the problem I posted about earlier.  I noticed that the language preference in the upper right hand corner of the screen (between the date and time and the Spotlight icon) had somehow gotten switched from American English to French.  When I switched it back to American English, my password worked when waking the computer from sleep mode.  I have no idea why changing the language preference would affect the way the password works but that seems to have been the case.  I'll post again if I experience more problems.

Before installing a new drive - it is generally better to install it in a external usb enclosure and connect it to your Macbook so you can format/erase the new drive and make an exact clone of the drive you wish to install, unless you plan on doing a clean install.

my mac book pro is not "starting" it makes beeping noise when i turn it on, prior to this for half a day it was turning off after an hourr so.

It may very well be a RAM issue but possibly something else.  Look over this extensive troubleshooting document for a possible solution:

  • How to stop PSE9 from starting automatically when I turn the computer on.

It could be that you have Restore Windows turned on system preferences>General. If that's not it, go to system preferences>users and groups>your account>log in items and make sure it's not in there.

  • Display won't always turn on when I turn the computer on

A problem I encountered yesterday: when I put my Mac to sleep, then try to wake it up, I hear the Mac wake up (and see the light on the front), but the monitor doesn't turn on. If I turn the computer off, then turn it on again, the monitor only turns on sometimes, maybe 50% of the time.
I have a 10-year-old Viewsonic 20" CRT. I plugged in my roommate's new 17" flat screen, and I could not duplicate the problem.
My monitor has a USB hub in its base. I unplugged that USB cable from the back of my Mac, and that seems to have solved the problem.
Any ideas on what's causing this? Thanks.

Well, I just encountered the problem again, so I guess the USB hub thing isn't involved in the equation.

  • What is causing the very Loud Fan noise everytime I use the computer? What is causing the Heat as well?  Please help

    Please Help!
My computer has been making very LOUD fan noises. I know this cant be normal. How can I fix this issue?
This has been going on for a while now. As soon as I turn on the computer....the noise starts.

Go check out Activity Monitor on your Mac.  It will show you which programs are running, and how heavy their use of your CPU is.
When mine does this, for some reason, I have a bunch of "Managed Clients" running at once.  I use Act. Mon. to shut them down, and my Mac runs normally.

  • My imac is making low beeping noises when I turn it on and wont go past a grey screen; whats wrong?

When I turn on my computer it goes strait to a grey screen with the apple and starts a low beeping. The beeping does not stop so I rebooted it several times and everytime it turns back on, it starts to beep again.
    What could be the problem?

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Note: It is possible that the SMC could encounter an issue that may cause  unusual system behavior typically related to the symptoms described  below.  In some cases, resetting the SMC may be the only correct method  to resolve the issue, however, an SMC reset should only be attempted  after all other standard troubleshooting has been performed.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC.  Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep.  Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
If your Mac appears to be running normally but isn't responding, force the computer to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. Note: You will lose any unsaved work in any open applications.
For Mac portables experiencing issues related to the MagSafe power adapter and/or battery, try:
Unplug the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac and the wall power socket for several seconds.
Shutdown the Mac.  Physically remove and re-insert the battery (if it's removable) and startup the Mac.
If the issue is still not resolved after following the troubleshooting items above, an SMC reset may be necessary.
After performing normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset may be necessary:
    Fans
The computer's fans run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated.
    Lights
The keyboard backlight appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have this feature).
The Status Indicator Light (SIL) appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have an SIL).
Battery indicator lights, if present, appear to behave incorrectly (on portables that use non-removable batteries).
The display backlight doesn't respond correctly to ambient light changes on Mac computers that have this feature.
    Power

  • Made a bad change to login options under user preferences, changed from "List of users" to "Name and password". I shut the computer down, now I can't login in when I turn the computer back on.  What can I do to fix this problem?

Have Migrated data from IMAC to Macbook twice.  Because I had too many admin ids under user and accounts preferences, I was trying not to delete the extras but that they wouldn't all show at login time.  Under Login Options, I clicked out  "List of Users" and clicked in "Name and password".  Can't remember whether I did anything else.  I shut down the computer and turned it back on to test the change.  I get a dark grey screen with all my admin ids in circled pictures plus one for guest, but doesn't let me do anything with any of the admin ids.  I clicked on any one and nothing happens.  IF i click on the guest circle, it gives me a message that the computer will restart with only Safari allowed.
Since I haven't been able to connect my macbook to my IMac so I can login to the macbook through the Imac, I can't get to my macbook.  There must be a way to fix this problem.  I expected to see places to enter name and password but nothing is allowed to enter.  Please help!

First thing I would do would be to boot in to Lion Recovery (Command+R on boot) and run Disk Utility, both disk and permissions repair.

  • I can't open any app when I turn the computer on. Mouse has batteries and the screen freezes on 1 app (BBCiplayer) , which obviously is the cause. How can I get rid of this app?

When I turn on the iMac the screen and apps appear as always. However there is 1 app ( BBC iplayer Desktop) which seems to freeze everything. The mouse works OK but when I click on any app or on the apple logo, nothing happens. I can't even turn it off. What should I do?

Thanks very much for this answer. I'll try now but just want to check a couple of things before going ahead. I understand that I should do the following:
    - turn off at back with the power button.
    - turn on again and as soon as the start up tone sounds I press the shift ket ( the arrow key on left?).
    - release key when the GREY PROGRESS BAR appears.
    THEN follow noondaywitches instructions:
Then go to System Preferences > Accounts > login Items and remove the iPlayer launcher.
Then restart as normal from the Apple menu.
I've edited your post to clarify what you need to do.
Assuming it starts up correctly and normal service is resumed you may then want to permanently delete BBC iPlayer (there's nothing worth watching anyway )

  • DVD is stuck, making a loud thumping noise, can't get the computer to turn off

I was watching a DVD and tried to eject it when it suddenly started making a continuous thumping noise.  It won't eject and I can't get it to power off.

Are you able to open other programs? Have you gone to the apple icon at very top left hand corner of the screen and tried 'Force Quit', then selected your DVD player?
If that produces no result, try one of these options.

  • Why is my MacBook pro making a beeping noise when I turn it on with no screen showing?

My MacBook pro turned on fine until here was a bunch of numbers showing on the screen and told me to shut it down so I did. When I waited 15 seconds I tried turning it on again and now every time I try to turn it on it makes a beeping sound and won't show a screen. It will just keep beeping until I turn it back off. I have only had it for two weeks so idk what the problem is.

The FINDER HELP section titled 'If you hear beeps when your computer starts up'  suggests that you take your MBP to an Apple Store or an authorized service facility.  The following leads you to an Apple Support article germain to your problem:  https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547.
