Loud burst of static when changing songs?

My 5G iPod has recently started to occasionally blast a loud, high-pitched burst of static in my ear when I change songs using the "next" button.
It doesn't happen all the time -- maybe 3-4 times over the last week -- but it's really unpleasant, and I'm afraid it could potentially hurt my ears if it decides to do it really loudly one day.
Could this be a firmware issue? I don't remember this happening until fairly recently, possibly coinciding with the last firmware update.

I've been playing with this for several hours. I can make it do it if I peg the memory use (not hard) and then do something like make a window go full-screen or anything that causes the bluetooth to glitch or pause. I got it to do it watching a YouTube video on full-screen, and then when I un-fullscreened, it blasted static. (So it's not just iTunes.) It appears to be the bluetooth, somehow.
Under Mavericks, this never happened. But Yosemite does it a good portion of the time. Makes the headphones absolutely unusable.

  • VERY Slow Respons When Changing Songs on iPod

My work computer is a Windows Vista machine, with Vista, SP 2 installed. I installed iTunes 8.2.0.23 this morning, upgrading from version 8.1.1.10. The new version works well when I play songs stored to the library on my hard drive, but I find that it has a VERY slow response when changing songs that I play from my iPod Touch. At one point, it took 17 seconds to change to the next song in the iPod's library. It changes instantaneously when I play songs from the library stored on my HDD. The iPod Software is version 2.2.1.
    Can someone please offer insight?
Is there a way to download and install iTunes 8.1.1.10? I had no problems with that version.

  • Sudden, incredibly loud burst of static

I have a Macbook pro 17" from 2009. Just tonight, I installed Yosemite (10.10.2 (14C109)), and it upgraded iTunes to the latest version (12.1.0.50).
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
While reading, I am listening to a playlist of ambient sounds -- birdsong, babbling brook, ocean waves -- on my bluetooth headphones (Inland ProHT 87091) when without any warning an unbelievably loud burst of white noise bursts out of my headphones. It's incredibly startling and painful.
It has happened now four times. If I pause playback for a few seconds and begin again, it goes back to normal, but I'm now scared to chance listening to anything for fear that it'll cause problems. My ears are still ringing from the last four times.
Has anyone else experienced problems like this? If so, how did you fix it? I have no idea what could be causing it other than iTunes or the headset, and I have literally used the headset daily, for hours every day, for a couple of years. Never had a problem until updating to Yosemite and updating iTunes.

  • VERY loud bursts of Static - Auzen Prelude X-FI

    Hi There!
3 or 4 times most days whilst my computer is sitting doing very little (Though can happen anytime) a hugely noisy burst of static comes out of my speakers for about 2-3 seconds which scares the crap out of me.
It has persisted across 2 OS Reloads and mulitple driver versions (Auzentech not Creative).
    I run an i7-920, Asus P6T Deluxe, 2GB, and 3 SSD's (Though it happened with my sata dri'ves too). I run a ATI HD5970.
    Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

Hi, any more news? Did the firmware help?
One more idea, which you've probably already thought of, but just in case you haven't - try different headphones; a static sound could easily be caused if these were faulty. The N200 uses a fairly standard jack, so any personal stereo headphones you find lying around would work, just to see if the static is still there.
As I've said, you've probably already tried that, but you might not have!
If you do have to take it back, it's worth getting a new one. Mine works perfectly and it's by far my favourite purchase this year!

  • 6267 restarts when changing songs...

I'm now on my third (yes, 3'rd) Nokia 6267 since I got the first two phones replaced just a day (and the day after), because of this problem - and STILL the problem has not disappeared. I even tried to change to another brand om MicroSD-card - for no use.
As it is right now, I can't use the mobile at all for playing my music. Randomly the phone restarts when skipping a song to play the next track. It *may* work for some tries, but after a few click the screen goes black, then white - and we are back to the main window. (Nokia logo with hands not shown as in a common startup). Seems lite the system is restarting somehow.
I'm not really sure how to get on further with this. The company that I bought the phone from told me that if I havent figured out a way to solve the problem myself - they would keep it and send it for repair. That is stupid, since all three phones I've tried now has the same problem, probably a problem that would easily be solved with a new firmware or Series 40 version. I've got the latest, already checked that ofcourse.
Any clues what to do? =( I want the tech-people at Nokia to know about this issue, but I'm not sure how to reach them. I've contacted the Nokia email-support, and I'm very curious about how the will handle this matter.
I'm seriously mad...and sad about all this. Will there be an update for the latest Series 40 and for the Nokia 6267 soon?
Do you have the same problem, please let me know if that is the case!
    Best Regards,
    Fredrik, Sweden

the allocation unit size is affected in exactly the manner you've stated (for a 2GB card) but small allocation units are not always better.
for small files, it is more efficient to have smaller allocation units. for large files, larger allocation units are better. it boils down to how much work is performed to the read data for an entire file, not just the first chunk.
small files in small allocation units: more efficient since less space is wasted (called 'slack space' by most people, the wasted space is the portion of an allocation unit assigned to a file that is not actually used by that file).
large files with large allocation units: once the filesystem driver has found a data cluster, it can stream more data without being interrupted by another lookup task. there are fewer inode lookups (due to the previous statement). less wasted space on meta data (fewer inodes @ 1 allocation unit per inode). less wasted space on allocation table (2^16 entries instead of 2^32 entries - an entry points to the root inode for a file). less fragmentation: file system fragmentation is more of an issue with smaller allocation units. (tear up a picture into 2x2 inch squares, how disorganized can you make them? tear each of those squares into 4 pieces, how disorderly can they become now?)
faster performance with FAT32 you say? then you must have a lot of rather small files. load up your 2GB card with a few large movies (which is what i like to do) and you should see better performance (and battery life, but not considerably) with FAT16.
sorry to be argumentative, i've had a rough morning. in any case, FAT is a pretty crummy filesystem by today's standards. we're talking about performance and power optimizations on the order of 10%. disk space optimization is a little trickier to predict, since it is a product of how many files you have and how many allocation units they use before the final, partly used allocation unit.
    N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

  • Delay when changing songs

Whenever I change a song on my iPhone 3GS by hitting the next arrow or the previous arrow the song will delay for about 3-5 seconds before changing. It's like it freezes for 3-5 seconds and it becomes really annoying when I shuffle my entire library because it will freeze everytime I go to the next song.
This same thing happened with my old ipod touch and I have no idea how to fix the problem.

The same thing happened to me. I was never sure if it was because usng random was too taxng for my large library or If it just took long to load up the album cover art.
In any case, it looks like the new 3.1 update fixed this finally. Have you upgraded yet? I'm very curious to see if you are still having the problem.

  • Excessive static when playing songs on itune

When playing anything on Itunes whether it is a cd or imported music I got a lot of static. I also hear it if I play a cd, but not on other media such as You Tube.

Are you talking about your earphones when you say "input my speakers"? If so, have you tried testing another pair of earphones to make sure the problem is not the earphones? Do the songs play fine when you play them without the earphones (using the iPhone speaker at the bottom of your phone)? Is the problem with every song you play? If you rule out everything else but the iPhone as being the issue then you may want to visit an Apple store (if available) or a VZW store so they can check the device. You might also want to try taking your music off of the iPhone and then re-syncing them back to the phone to see if that does anything. I would guess that the problem is with the earphones or whatever speakers you may be plugging in. Also...this may seem like an obvious thing but check to make sure that the cable is inserted fully into the iPhone.

  • Itunes 10.6.3 - Just update to the new Itunes and the album artwork is not sticking anymore... I upload the artwork and when I change songs and go back the art is gone. Anyone with similar issue ?

Itunes 10.6.3 - Just update to the new Itunes and the album artwork is not sticking anymore... I upload the artwork and when I change songs and go back the art is gone. Anyone with similar issue ?

I have this issue.  Album artwork was totally fine before.  After this update, it is all messed up and even got messed up when transferred to my iphone.
iTunes doesn't have the artwork anymore, but then iPhone has it but shows wrong artwork with wrong albums.
    Please fix!

  • What is that screen that pops up when you change songs

I notice this little screen that comes up when iTunes changes songs. I also notice how this seems to slow it down and is just annoying in general. What is that and how can I turn it off or disable it?

No, see I have never opened the standard iTunes widget before so i doubt it is causing the screen to show up. The only other iTunes widgets I have downloaded were for lyrics look up nothing related to displaying the current song, and i deleted them already to be safe. Anywho, as soon as SpyMac.com comes back online I will post a picture of the "widget-like" screen that pops up. I will also try what u said but if there is no widget or other iTunes (other than iTunes itself) process running in the Activity Manager then theoretically this is not a widget problem but a setting somewhere in iTunes that was turned on. Anyways, I will post a picture of this as soon as I can.

    Hello King Cutway
If you are having issues with the functions keys, then check the settings in System Preferences > Keyboard and look to see if Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys is unchecked so you can use it properly.

  • IPod skips song when I change song.... normal?

Hi I just got an iPod today and was wondering if this was normal: I loaded my itunes library into my ipod, but when I change songs the hard drive will hum for about 15 seconds. After 15 seconds it will skip the song it was searching for and just go to a new one. I was wondering if this is normal and if not, is there a solution to this?
This probably happens about 50% of the time which is quite a nuisance.

I actually found this topic which is the same problem I have just in case other people are having this.... Seems like no solution yet though

i have a 5th gen ipod nano that freezes when playing songs. i can't skip, turn down volume, turn ipod off. it simply screeches as the song is stuck at a specific point. any suggestions?

You have 2 options:  #1 - iPod Repair Tutorials
#2 - take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Verizon galaxy nexus-music skips and static when screen is off..

What i do is download videos using youtube
downloader and convert them into mp3. Then i connect my phone to the laptop with
the usb cable. I open my computer-galaxy nexus-music, and i drag the saved mp3
from my laptop to my phone. When i disconnect the phone,I open the music app and
I listen to my music and it sounds fine when the screen is on. When the screen
is Off the music starts to skip a little and i hear static with or without
headphones. Now i used the same procedure when i load music from my laptop with
other mp3 devices and ipods and the music sounds good when the screen is on or
off with those devices. I downloaded a song from the android market and amazon,
stored it and downloaded to my phone for offline play and both songs stutter or
    static when screen is off.

From the beginning, I wasn’t too impressed by the Galaxy Nexus. Why? It’s a Samsung. Would I purchase a Samsung for a basic phone? Sure, but when it comes to “top of the line” smart phones, Samsung wouldn’t be my first, second or even third choice. Now, don’t get me wrong, I contemplating parting with 299.99 to purchase the Nexus. The ics appeal outweigh some of my skepticism.. but before I buy a phone, I sit on review boards, cnet reviews, youtube reviews, etc. etc. In addition, it’s hard to trust a new phone of its kind. All the kinks (clearly) haven’t been ironed out. I, like Rushfan2112 went with the Rezound. And I LOVE it.
But do I think the Nexus is a “poor” phone? Na. Not by a long shot. Does VZW hinder the devices full potential? Of course – but we as Verizon customers should already know this – they proved so with the Iphones. Moreover, I’m a bit confused by the lack of update to the OS as well. This phone was specifically designed and released. It’s not as if we’re waiting for a complete OS change like HTC Rezound, Rhyme, & Motorola Bionic, 4 and Razr customers are. I understand that takes time because the OS has to be modified for each device. But the Nexus started with ICS, the ambiguity in the software updates is ridiculous….

  • How can I get my ipod to list the "album artist" instead of "artist" in the music menu, but still show the artist with the featured artist when a song plays?

For example, I am putting Kanye West's album "808's & Heartbreak" on my ipod. The track "Amazing" features Young Jeezy. So in iTunes, I list the track name as "Amazing", the artist as "Kanye West ft. Young Jeezy",  the album artist as "Kanye West", and the album as "808's & Heartbreak". What I want is for my iPod to have a list of album artists instead of artists, so that I can find the song "Amazing" under "Kanye West" instead of "Kanye West ft. Young Jeezy" or "808's & Heartbreak".
And when the song plays, it should say:
    Amazing
    Kanye West ft. Young Jeezy
    808's & Heartbreak
Is there a way I can do that? I tried using the "album artist" field thinking it would do what I wanted to do, but it didnt. I also tried using the "sort artist" field and typed "Kanye West" in there, but that didnt work either. I wish iTunes was simpler and easier or atleast CAME WITH A MANUAL. Any help would be greatly appreciated THanks

Have you tried a different pair of earbuds/headphones to rule out a pair of damaged/faulty ones?  You might also want to make sure the headphones are securely and firmly seated in Nano's headphone jack.  Lastly, check the headphone jack for any signs of debris or damage.  You may need to have the headphone jack replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.
I assume this static is present on any track you listen to versus only particular ones?
