Loud buzz and power being dropped

Hello, i have a i.8 Ghz and lately i have been having a few problems. At first, my iMac would make this high pitched buzz whenever i would put it to sleep. Now, it makes the same noise when i first boot up, during the startup mac noise.
Another problem i have been having is my iMac will shut off randomly. The only way i am able to turn it on again is if i unplug the power cord for about 10 minutes and plug it in again and start it up.
Help Please!

Hello phishy91
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Contact your local Apple Service Provider or Apple Store, that sure sounds like a failing power supply which shouldn't cost more that a bill and some change to replace.
In the mean time, reset the iMac's SMU exactly as described step by step in the following link to see if that helps. > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
Also see the following Apple Discussions thread were if I'm not mistaken, Apple replaced an iMac G5's power supply for free? > http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2002913&tstart=0

  • Loud buzz and a red light! Hot, too.

My AE started sending a loud buzz through its audio output. When I unplugged the cable, there was a red light shining from the connector hole. The darn thing was pretty hot, too, although I can't really say it was warmer than usual. Unplugging it for a while causes it to work again (the red light goes away).
Is it frying itself to death?
    Any ideas?

The warmth of the Airport Express, and the "red light shining from the connector hole" which is the optical digital output, are not things I would be overly concerned about. The "loud buzz" is of course not normal. If this "loud buzz" becomes a recurring problem (and you eliminate a faulty cable or sound system as a source of the buzz) and your Airport Express is still under warranty, I would recommend you get it replaced.

  • Wrong Power Supply causing loud buzzing?

I just moved, and forgot to pack the power supply along with my Inspire T5400 speakers, so I thought I would use another that fit. since then the speakers make a horrible, loud buzzing and I can't hear the underlying sounds at all. Is it possible that the wrong power supply can do this? Can I order another one from Creative?

Nevermind, I found the correct P/S and it workds great. I we todd did...

  • ITunes 7 and very loud buzz during music playback

I upgraded to iTunes 7 and now when I play music on my iMac G4 I occasionally get a very loud buzz breaking into the music. It seems totally unpredictable and it sounds like a very loud, annoying alarm. I think it only appears in the left-hand speaker, but not sure. It never happened with previous versions of iTunes and I haven't added any additional software since upgrading iTunes and Quicktime. It's such a jarring sound that I'm almost too scared to play music through iTunes now because the buzz creates a real shock to the nerves when it happens. Any ideas? I haven't adjusted any preference defaults in iTunes or Quicktime since downloading the upgrades.

Same issue here with iPhone 6 iOS 8.1.3 and now with iOS 8.2.  New Pioneer DEH6700BS.  Took back to shop and had new deck replaced - SAME ISSUE. Mine is around 7:30 minute and same drop out right after that as you are seeing.  I have tested with iPod Touch and my son's iPhone 5C and I don't get this issue despite multiple testing scenarios.  Looks like the common denominator is the iPhone 6.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
It's appears as though you need to seek hardware service for your iPad since this occurred after you dropped it.

  • Horrifyingly loud buzz sound happens after I burn and eject a disc, WHY??

    Hey everyone,
So this insanely loud, like blowing out my speakers loud, buzzing sound, comes out of my speakers after I rip a cd and eject it. Has this ever happened to anyone???
    Here are the specific details:
This has happened only twice before, but just happened twice tonight.
The sound itself is a short burst of noise, like if you ever plugged into a guitar amp with the volume at max.
It only makes that sound when I remove the CD, if it sits halfway in the drive it wont make the noise till I pull it out.
I am using iTunes on an Intel based iMac.
Its almost 1am and it really is scary and disconcerting when this happens, especially because it happened twice in one night! Imagine listening quietly to music and then this MASSIVE loud noise blasts through your speakers late at night. Its like my computer just yelled me...
    Anyways, thanks your time
    Best,
    -Reid

To see if this is something actually going through the iMac's sound system (and not some hardware malfunction), mute the sound in System Preferences Sound pane. Then do whatever it is that makes the sound occur"? Does the sound still occur, or is it now muted. Actually, you don't need to mute the sound, just make it lower. That way, you can tell if the sound still occurred. Is the loudness affected by the sound volume setting?

  • DVD Drawer Buzzes Very Loudly When Disk is Being Played...

New T Sat L755-S5170...when a DVD or CD or program disk is inserted into drive drawer, and 'played', the drive drawer buzzes and vibrates very loudly. There is noticeable vibration on drawer edge, when I lightly hold the drawer, which slightly reduces the vibration and noise, but noise & vibration are still present...Not pleased. Any ideas or tips, short of returning this new laptop? Thank you, motordavid

Thanks, but I am quite familiar with how DVD drawers/drives sound, over the past 30 yrs of laptops and desktops... this one was remarkably noisy: almost like any given CD or DVD or program disk was spinning eccentrically. I took it back in to where I had bought it; the 'genius tech guys' at Staples told me it was 'normal', lol! I brought it back home, and took the disk drawer out completely and reinstalled it carefully: no more loud noise, though it still plays disks more nosily than any I have ever had. The replacement option is fine, if one wants to turn in their new/not yet a year old computer, which of course is loaded with one's own personal photos, docs, etc. Not fun, even if fully backed up to a device or, the cloud. They are making these things flimsier and crummier by the day, imo, regardless of brand. GL, mD

When my laptop Pavilion dv6 less than a year old, computer is playing sound, it makes a very loud buzzing noise and the whole computer locks up.  I hit the lock symbol and then swipe my finger again to get out of the website (youtube) or close out the program playing sound or it will do it again.

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.
If both the above tests pass, try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Part of this process will require a restart to check the drive.

  • Screen goes blank and loud buzzing

Several times now, my screen has suddenly gone black and instantly my t400 makes a loud, buzzing sound. The first time this happened was while I was playing Starcraft. I believe the other two occurences happened while watching videos.
I don't know if this is related to the video cards or if it's overheating, but I'd appreciate any ideas! I have updated my bios recently and yet the problem persists.
    Thanks!

I presume you're playing SC2 instead of SC1? (SC1 system load is like, idling on modern computers.)
Check to if your ATI drivers are up to date, along with everything else (i.e.: Run ThinkVantage System Update).
(I also made the assumption you have the discrete ATI GPU.)

  • HT2101 It is not putting on despite 50% power being there. Means when I stopped checking my mail and switced it to idle mode, the when I tried to put it on it is not coming on.

I was working on my iPhone 4S and then stoppehhd it (Not Swithed Off). At this time 50% power indication was there. After a few seconds when I tried to connect it to power source for charging, it is neither charging nor coming LIVE. Means I am not able to use my phone at all.
What to do? Tried to connect to LapTop USB Port but it does not even show sign of connection.
    Regards
    Jam203

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons.
If still nothing, connect to power with USB cable, Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons on charger.

  • Won't turn on, flashing light, loud buzzing when I try to charge it?

My ipod died in April and I got a replacement from the apple store as it was still (just!) under warranty. I woke up in the middle of the night last night because my ipod was flashing - not on and off, just a blank flashing light. I tried turning it on and off but it didn't work and didn't even turn on.
When I got up today the flashing had stopped. I tried charging it but as soon as I plugged in the lead from my computer it started making a really loud buzzing noise. I don't mean the whirring/clicking noise that seems to be common enough when they die (that's what happened my last one, but it would turn on and display the battery with exclamation mark), but a real buzzing sound.
It started flashing again too after being plugged in for less than a minute. I left it plugged in for a while but the noise was driving me crazy so I've unplugged it now.
Has anyone come across this problem before? I haven't dropped it or had it near liquids etc, I've been treating it like a newborn baby since the last one died! I've googled and tried searching apple support but I haven't come across anything similar. Any help would be great, thanks!

If you connected it to both your computer's USB port and a USB power adapter on a wall outlet, I think you've ruled out a problem with the power source.  Since you at least get the red light, the USB docking cable is probably OK.
So, if it's not the USB port or the docking cable, the cause is likely to be on the shuffle.  It may be the battery or a problem on the logic board.  If it was just the battery, I think it would still appear in iTunes on the computer (or at least be recognized by the system).
(If this shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.)

  • How do I stop Win7 from breaking my software? Ole32.dll and "Power" service suspected culprits.

Hello and thanks for any help with this.
I built a new computer for my aunt and her one major request is that she still be able to use her card maker software Creatacard (yes misspelled just like that) by American Greetings. I thought this would be no issue, I could give her a much faster machine
and get her off (the no longer supported) WindowsXP all at the same time by moving her to Windows7 and copying all her files over from the old PC to the new one.
I tested the software first on a test PC of mine and found it would not install in a 64bit environment (error message saying use 32bit during install) which I solved by using Windows7 32bit. It worked perfectly so I proceeded to build her machine thinking
that issue resolved. Problem is after the new rig was built and SP1 plus all windows updates were installed the Creatacard software would not load. I get an instant popup message saying "Creatacard Application File has stopped working" with the options
to "Check online for a solution..." and "Close the Program."
Checking online does nothing noticeable and close program doesn't help as every time you reload it fails immediately with the same message. Clicking on the "view problem details" drop menu reveals that this is an APPCRASH with the following clues
    Fault Module Name  ole32.dll
    Fault Module Version 6.1.7601.17514
I have researched and tried everything I could find online about this crash and none of it (up to and including completely re-installing Windows, systematically loading a few Win-updates and trying the app after each batch, editing the registry multiple
times, trying alt versions of ole32.dll, and using a Linux live CD to alter windows settings) has fixed the problem.  I have learned the following though:
When windows is first installed the card maker software (CMS from here on) works fine.
After windows updates itself and a few device drivers auto load (like when you first plug in a USB mouse or Flash drive) CMS breaks.
Loading windows normally after it is up to date always causes CMS to crash and give the above message.
When I perform a "clean boot" CMS works fine once again.
When I boot into safe mode CMS works fine.
Someone online suggested a service could be the actual problem and there being 140 of them I used the 50% method to quickly narrow the list and found that yes indeed windows services do appear to be related because if I don't allow the "Power"
service to run the CMS works perfectly. With a bit of testing to see what it does I found that it controlled wake/sleep settings, delay until your monitor goes dark etc and that if the Power service is disabled it remembers the last settings entered and I
thought GREAT! Finally after many days of frustration and being balked by nonsense I have a solution. My aunt will never use/miss the power settings I will set them up for her once and then kill that service and all is well for a Happy Holiday... (from my
research online some may already guess where this is headed)  until I went to play a video............ and there was no sound.
A little red X had appeared next to the speaker icon down in the system tray next to the clock and hovering over it gave a popup with "The Audio Service is not running." This is where the BS gets deep. I had of course NOT disabled the sound (Windows
Audio) service and a quick check showed it and all the services it depended on were in fact on and running. The Windows trouble shooter offered to fix the issue and so I let it run but it comes back with "one or more Audio service is not running"
and attempting to restart the service on its own came back with a "Not fixed" result. Now if I go to check dependencies for the "Power" it claims that no other services depend on it and it depends on nothing but that is an outright lie.
Further digging shows me the Power service's "path to executable" as...  C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k DcomLauncher and many other services show they depend on DcomLauncher to run.
Long extra trouble shooting session short here is where I am at. I can have the sound working or the CMS but not both.
Uninstalling and re-installing the sound card drivers didn't help (since sound is being stopped at the windows OS level) either.
As soon as I turn on the Power service and reboot the CMS breaks. As soon as I disable the Power service and reboot the CMS works perfectly but all audio breaks. Both of these are a deal breaker as she will not leave her old slow XP machine without her CMS
and I cannot give her a new machine that has no sound. Reboots take 30 seconds on this new PC so were it mine I could just live with it as the CMS has no sound and I don't need music playing when I am designing a Christmas card. Use the sound/power on 99%
of the time and disable them and reboot whenever I make a card and then enable and reboot when I am done. This would be over her head though I fear as she is a senior and not very tech savvy. My question then is...
Is there any way to have the CMS work while still keeping the Windows Audio service (and all the other not listed but still existing dependent services) running? Or alternatively is there something else I can do to the ole32.dll to make it stop the crash/error?
To be clear I would happily accept a system without the Power service running if (like it actually says under dependencies) nothing else other than the "Power Options" in Control Panel ceased to function.

Thanks Michael. Apologies for the slow reply I was away for a bit (holiday blitz at work and visiting family madness etc.etc.) back now, I set both options you requested to "never " and retried the CMS software with no change.
I do have progress of a sort though, as a test I took a separate test PC and put a clean install of Win7 on and loaded up the CMS software (it worked perfectly) and then took the version of ole32.dll off that machine and put it onto the computer I had built
    for her (using Linux) and...
got a new error code. Darn I was so sure I had found a clever solution this time lol.
Anyway now when the CMS fails it gives me a similar error but the offending module is "ntdll.dll" sooo... I tried taking the "working" version of ntdll.dll from the test box and moving it over (making sure to back up the existing ones
first so I could put them back if needed) to her new PC and the PC would not boot.
It seems to want the original versions of a few Dynamic Link Libraries and if I could somehow give it those while not breaking Win7 it should theoretically work seeing as it no longer errors with ole32.dll.
ntdll.dll however seems necessary for Win7 to boot.
So what I am wondering now is:
Is there some way to have both versions of the DLL file in the system32 folder (bypassing the "cannot have two files with the exact same name in the same folder" thing) or rename the original DLL's something else and somehow make the CMS look for
the new named versions so the system has the updated DLL's it needs to boot/run and the CMS has the old ones it wants to run or is there someway to have a self contained install of the CMS, say on a USB flash drive and give it it's own E:/windows/system32/needed
dll's  path to the files it needs?
Willing to try any other options or settings you may have come up with as well.
Thanks again for your reply and my apologies for not answering sooner.
