Loud clicking noise when it prints

My printer has just started a loud clicking noise everytime the cartridges start to move it starts clicking loudly then the ink cartridges move and it prints just fine.

I now have the same problem with my HP 1510 all in one printer, I've got Windows XP, but this just started, I've had the printer for at least 10 years without issues.  Love it.

    Hey @acr520,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're hearing a clicking noise when printing from your HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer. I would like to offer my assistance today with resolving this issue. Now, even though the print quality is perfect on your printed documents there is a chance that your cartridges may be incorrectly seated, or the carriage within your printer may be experiencing issues. The carriage is the part that moves from left to right inside your printer as the cartridges print.  Can I please have you follow the steps below to check the ink system and carriage assembly within your printer.
To start can I please have you click here. I understand that you're not actually getting a cartridge error. However, as I mentioned before, it is important to check the cartridges to ensure that everything is seated correctly and that there are no jams or debris within the cartridge compartment that is causing the clicking noise. Once the support document opens please run through Step two, and Step four. Once troubleshooting is complete please test printing to verify if the issue is resolved.
Should the clicking noise persist, can I please have you click here. Once the carriage document opens please run through Solution two, Solution three, Solution five, and Solution six. This includes any sub-steps under the listed Solutions.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve the clicking noise issue. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • I bought an ipod 4g 8gb today from a retail store, its a used one, and the store is indeed an official apple retailer, anyways long story short my ipod home button makes a kinda loud click noise when pressed, has anyone had this with new apple bought ones

I've tested this along side me, my brother's, and my gf's IPhone 4 8GB, as well as my moms IPhone 4s 16GB, and my gf's IPod touch 1&2g 8GB, and all 6 of those seem to have a rather soft press sound.

Yeah I'm starting to think this retailer has been cutting some corners or something. Imagine it's kind of like the key press sound the iPhone makes when typing.
I think I came across a post similar when I google the issue but I think it was from years ago,and out of all the replies only one person said there's was the same.

  • Laserjet Pro m177fw makes loud clicking noise and then is stuck initializing, won't print

    Hi,
Had this printer delivered today, it looks awesome, but when I turn it on, it has a loud clicking noise (like something trying to turn, but not grabbing a gear or something inside, this happens immediately upon turning it on, and then it's stuck in Initializing.  If I go into the home button and go to system settings, then reports then configuration report, I get a big green check.  I did notice that on the right most menu item, there is a yellow warning, and it doesn't seem to be able to get the detail on the ink levels of the colours.  I took out the ink cartridge and looked at it and it doesn't look like there is something to pull out to activate the cartridge (there was in my really old HP Laser jet).
What am I missing on setup?  I've read the instructions twice and also hard powered off the printer by pulling the plug and waiting a minute to plug it back in.  Same thing occurs, thanks!

Please follow these steps to take the cartridges out.
Touch the Icon and indicated on the pic.
It will come up with a screen which looks like this
Touch on the black cartridge icon and it will display " moving black cartridge to front".
Now open the cartridge door and remove the black toner.
Close the door and touch the cyan and it will move it to the front and you will have to open the door again and take the cyan out, close the door again and repert the process for magenta and yellow.
And when you want to reinstall them the same steps have to be repeated.
Do let me know the results

in the future, buy this, this is what the Pros use:

roughly $30 per year for a device(s) with 0 deductible, used same for over 20 years, same insurance the pros use on their portable devices.

Otherwise,  the all-inlone j4580 prints, copies and scans

  • Dual G5 2.0 hard drive makes loud clicking noises after installing Leopard

I installed Leopard on my Dual G5 2.0, did a clean install. Worked fine for a couple of days but now it is unusable, the hard drive makes loud clicking noises and the computer slows down, can't even properly shut it down. All worked perfectly with Tiger installed.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks and happy new year!

Ha... "Cheers" is not convincing coming from an angry man like you.
In English PC stands for Personal Computer:
    http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=personal%20computer
    and
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_computer
So a Mac and a Windows Machine can both be a PC. In fact I believe Apple coined the phrase PC, but I could be wrong.
I've been using Mac for 20 years, never had any issues. However my windows machines are very inefficient, it's difficult to get them to work with a printer, much less any of the multi media apps and equipment I use. My windows Machines are useful to me as test boxes and running some apps I don't have on my Macs. Sure Office works great on them, but I don't do spread sheets and such for a living.
I'm sorry that you are having bad luck, or are you making this up? You are a apple rep? Do they know that you are posting on the Apple site and advising users to buy a PC, hmm George Lelapinou the French Apple hater?
So, sorry old comrade but PC stands for personal computer, not Microsoft, and my PC is working 100% now, as my Macs always do, it appears it just needed to be cleaned. Now if only my crappy Peugeot would work after getting cleaned... I joke, I kid, iJoke.

  • Loud clicking sound when trying to play a DVD

HP Pavilion Ultimate d4995t desktop PC with Realteck High Definition Audio.  Vista Premium O/S.  I play my sound via my HDMI cable to the speakers in my monitor. When I attempt to play a DVD in the DVD drive, I get a loud clicking noise with no sound from the DVD.   This only happens to DVD's.  CDs play sound without a problem.  If I copy the same DVD files to the hard drive, I can play it from the hard drive and sound works.  If I plug in speakers to the audio-out and disable the HDMI output, I can play the DVD in the DVD drive and the sound plays through those speakers without the noise.  I have ran Microsoft sound tool without success.  Updated all the sound drivers.  I reloaded Vista, that corrected the problem.  But as time went on the problem came back.  I suspect the problem was caused by an Microsoft update. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi,
Yes, it happens after installing Service Pack for Vista through Windows Update.
Click Start->'Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback -> Select Realtek HDMI Output, click Properties. Click Advanced Tab above,
Unclick 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device', click Apply/Ok.
Check if the issue is resolved, if not, select HDMI Output on Sound Window, click Properties, click Enhancements tab, check the option 'Disable all sound effects', click Apply/Ok.
    Thank You.

  • Clicking noise when putting in disk

I just got my mac last month, and until a week ago, had not put a disk in it. When you load a disk, it makes a really loud clicking noise. The drive seems to work fine and burn disks, but is the noise normal?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4)

The noise is completely normal. Since the slot loading drive is a little different from your typical "tray" type drive, what you hear is the motor pulling in the disk and then seating it.

  • Loud clicking noises

    HP Wireless Deskjet F4580
My printer has just started making loud clicking noises every time I send something to print.  It sounds like it is grabbing at something.  I cleaned it out and checked the rollers - they do not stick and there is no paper in there that I can find anywhere.  I checked the print path and the cartridges slide easily from side to side.  I don't know what else to check.  It finally will take the paper and print it, but the top left corner of the paper is folded down with 'scratch' marks like it was catching on something.  Any suggestions?

    Hi there,
Scratching and tearing with the additional noise could mean the product needs to be serviced. However, check this article out for clearing paper jams. The detailed walkthrough will point out some key places to inspect. Make sure there are no missing/loose/broken/foreign objects in these areas. Let us know if this helps.
    Best of Luck!

  • Loud click noise in SMPlayer

    Hello,
When I'm watching video clips in the playlist, and the video changes, there are some loud "click" noise. It happens all time and are driving me nuts.
What is causing this, and how do I avoid it ??
Sometimes it helps changing the volume, but not allways.

    I think the cause is:
This is due to the device being closed and reopened on track change.
Some soundcards make a click noise, some don't.
I suppose the fix would be to stop the video player from closing the Linux audio device (in /dev/snd/).

  • I can't get my ipod classic (120GB) to work. I am getting error code 1434, and the ipod is making a lot of clicking noises when plugged in

After coming back from Hawaii, my Ipod classic doesn't work anymore. When plugged into itunes, it says that it may be corrupt, and that I need to restore it. I have tried this, but everytime it gives me an error code of 1434. When I click more information, it sends me to a support page, but not for error code 1434. I tried all of the steps on the page hoping that it would help. Also my ipod is making  a lot of clicking noises when it is trying to run, alomst as if it is skipping inside and can't fully run. Can anyone help me ?

Clicking sounds from an iPod that has a hard drive for storage is not a good thing.  It usually means the hard drive is faulty.  That is the likely reason for getting an error during the attempt to Restore.
If you use a Mac, you can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
If it goes into Disk Mode, connect the iPod and instead of running iTunes, run Disk Utility.  Does the iPod appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?  If it does, select the iPod device in the sidebar, not the volume indented below the device (if there is one).  Go to the Erase tab.  Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Name does not matter.  Click on Security Options and choose to write a single pass of zeros over the entire disk.  This serves as a good "stress test" for the iPod's hard drive.  Back on the main window, click Erase.
This takes longer than a regular erase, but you should see steady progress.  If it errors out, or stalls for a LONG time (like hours), the hard drive is likely to be faulty.
If it completes successfully, quit Disk Utility, run iTunes and try to do another Restore

A "clicking noise" is often a sign that a hard drive is malfunctioning. Suggest that you power down the device and take it to an Apple store to have them take a look, or contact Customer Service at Apple for instructions.
