  • Cracking strange sound when comming from sleep

When comming from a sleep (not always, but when beeing longer in sleep) I hear (next to the superdrive sound that is normal) a sort of cracking 'strange' sound out of my left/center area just around where the fan is.
It's a sound like you plugin a radio with an headplug let's say. Seems to come out of the speakers, but i'm not sure about that.
Is it normal (didn't do this before, only noticed it now after a month)? Or can i add another point to the list when i'm calling applecare (i really have a very monday morning machine i guess,: cpu whine, display not ok, strage blinking numlock sometimes).
Did find some thinks that look alike:

Great description...! I thought it sounded a bit like the trashcan sound.
I have got the same thing which isn't exactly my biggest problem... I also have the situation, that my MB doen't go to sleep, unless I directly tell it to. I thought the sound was related to that problem, but as none of you have mentioned it...?
Also my MB cannot be started normally every now and again and I have to do a PRAM reset to get it running again.
This is my second MB, so I'm slowly running out of patience...
The first one had the RSS, by the way.

  • Rustling/Static-like sound when awakening from sleep?

It seems to be coming from the speaker, the left side I think, and it definitely isn't the sound of the drive spinning up.
Anyone know what this issue is, how to fix it, or if it is a sign of a more serious problem?

I've got the same issue, though I don't really worry about it - it's definitely coming from the speakers - when I awaken it from sleep I can hit the volume buttons and it'll get louder/softer. Unfortunately, I'm not sure why it does that - you're not alone, though it doesn't seem like a serious problem.

  • My ipod is restarting again and again with a crack like sound

I have a iPod Classic. Few days ago i was listening music and i noticed that the power suddenly reaches to half. After few second it was just about to empty. And after few second my iPod turned off and restarted again but not completely. When ever it  starts it suddent turns off with crack like sound. I just let it to drain off the battery for a whole one day. Next when i started it , it showed me a display of "Connect To Power" when i connected it, it followed the same routine as it was showing earlier . I waited for some time and eventually it showed me display of "Reset you iPod Through iTunes". i reseted it twice and now the it is starting and turning off agagin and again....... Plz help......!!!!!!

Its happening to me too. I was just on Instagram when all of a sudden the screen went to white for a second then shut off. I didnt touch anything on my iPod and it showed the apple logo. I thought it was turning itself back on, but the white screen popped up again and it turned off. It has repeatedly been doing this for a while and nothing is helping.

  • Drive sound when waking from sleep?

Hi, I am getting a short 2-3 second drive sound when I wake my MBP from sleep. It sounds like it is checking to see if there is a disc in the drive or something. Also might be described as the sound when your first put a disc into the drive(but maybe shorter). Is this normal? And also if it is normal is there a way to stop it from making the noise because I actually find it annoying me, I wake my computer from sleep a lot throughout the day. My friends MBP who bought his just a few months before mine does not make a sound when waking from sleep. Thanks.

They all do. All of them. Yours. Mine. Your friend's. Old PowerBooks. Brand new MBPs. Everything in between.
My friends MBP who bought his just a few months before mine does not make a sound when waking from sleep.
Maybe his optical drive is broken?
Or, more likely, it's not waking up from sleep at all - Energy Saver settings can be used to set the display to sleep before the MBP sleeps - a key press will "wake" the display, but the MBP itself was not asleep, thus no noise from the drive when it the display is reactivated.

  • Hizzing / bad sound when running from battery power (Ups)?:

Why is my computer (Imac) emitting a hizzing sound when running from the UPS (battery)? I am testing a offline UPS type: POWERWARE Eaton Protection Station UPS 500VA 250W. My Imac is suppose to use max 200 watts of electrity (Imac 24 inch. intel 2.8 Ghz, 4 GB memory). When running from AC there is no sound. When testing (pulling out the cord on the UPS the Imac starts emitting a disturbing hizz / sound)???

I solved it my self. It was OK (no buzz and fuzz) when it was plugged in (when the electicity line was down once and I was running on the UPS battery).....

  • Occasional sharp 'beep' sound when transition from a photo to a video

    Hi guys-
I've been looking everywhere trying to solve this without any luck (doesnt seems like many out there with such problem).
I'm compiling a video for a family event (comprising of still photos and video clips) but i noticed that occasionally when the compilation play from a still to a video clip- it'll emit a sharp 'beep' noise.
This is what i checked and confirm so far-
    1. it happens only when moving from a photo to a video (but not always occur).
    2. the video clip has original sound volume set to 0.
    3. original video clip does not contain the beep.
    4. background song does not contain the beep.
    5. not all transition from photo following video produce such beep.
    6. the beep still happens even with the background song removed (technically no voice element in the project).
Can anyone share any ideas/experience around this?
    Thanks in advance!
    - Ryan

Does this happen just when playing in iMovie, or after you've rendered the video into a finalized stand-alone file? If you haven't exported the movie yet, I'd try that and see if the beep is still there.

  • LCD flash when return from sleep

    Hi,
I start to notice that my display sometimes "flashs" when I "ask" to the computer return from a Sleep.
It's happens sometimes, not all time. I will start to see exact when it's happen, like If just before it's sleep, or when sleep for more time.
But anyone has notice the same thing happens??
It's a little bit annoying because I use my Mac in a "dark" room, with dimmed light, and when return this flash blind me for a few seconds.
It's really like the flash from de the photo booth, but less strong.

    I had the same problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=555485&tstart=0
SOLUTION: Disable the screen saver (ie - set it to "never") and it won't do it. You've probably got the screen shutting down prior to the screen saver kicking in anyhow.
Hope this works - it did on mine.

  • Play sound when awaking from sleep?

Hello! I'd like to make my Mac play a sound (.aif file) each time it awakes from sleep... any way to do this? How about playing a sound when starting up?
    Thanks!
    John Berry
    iMac g5 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi, John.
    1. SleepWatcher isn't a tool for Terminal newbies, but it's the only utility of its kind of which I am aware. My book focuses on troubleshooting — valuable on its own — but not programming: implementing tasks with utilities like SleepWatcher is clearly in the programming category and involves writing shell scripts or AppleScripts.
I don't do programming tutorials on the Discussions since they can become very time consuming and if you make errors, then we get into a long thread trying to resolve them, which can be very difficult using a vehicle like the Discussions. I try to focus my limited time here on helping people troubleshoot their Macs. For questions like your post, I try to point them in the right direction or give them steps that can be accomplished without programming. I'm sure you can appreciate that.
    2. You wrote: "Also, I can add my file to the Login Items pane but it doesn't automatically play -- QT starts up, loads the file, but it doesn't play automatically..."I see you sorted that out. I suspect you did so by changing the default application for the sound file in question to QuickTime and have QuickTime preferences set to play movies automatically when opened.
With QuickTime Pro you can save any sound file as a .sfil file and use PlaySnd to play it via Method B in my prior post.
    3. You wrote: "I've been a Mac user since 1984... it was easy then, your file just went in the Startup Items folder (that doesn't seen to have the same function anymore...)."It still does.
Whether something is placed in /Library/StartupItems or added to your account's Login Items depends on if it is a System-wide function that should be started for all users before any users log in (e.g. enable the process used by anti-virus solution), or execute when a specific user logs in, respectively.
The SleepWatcher case is different: you need to know how to program the specific action you want the Mac to perform when sleep is invoked using a shell script.
There are plenty of resources available to learn the Terminal and Shell Scripting.
    - I recommend some books and other online resources in my "Learning About Mac OS X" FAQ.
    - Once you've made some headway in learning Terminal, one can find a plethora of resources concerning shell scripting with this Google search.
    - There are a variety of Developer-related Apple Discussions for asking coding questions concerning UNIX/Terminal, AppleScript, etc.
    - You could always e-mail SleepWatcher's author (his e-mail address is at the bottom of his Web page) for advice.
Why not take up the challenge of learning Terminal and a bit about shell scripting? It can be fun as well as a valuable skill. We only grow by challenge!

  • Loss of sound when converting from MPEG1 to DV

Is it possible to import sound and video into FCP 5 from a MPEG 1 movie accidentally recorded on the memory stick in my digital camcorder. The video transfers well as .mov but I can't get any sound to transfer. It works perfectly as a file on the desktop played through the Quicktime Player but the file loses the sound when imported into FCP5. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

most likely you need to demux the file (untangle the audio and video). MPEG Streamclip is a good way to go to do this.
Export as a Quicktime DV-NTSC or DV-PAL (depending on your part of the world) and all should be good.
    Cheers,

I hear some strange peep sound from the notebook hardware when its working from battery power.
When working from outlet power there is no peep sound from the hardware.
Maybe its because the battery is new or something there wrong ?

  • MacBook Pro freezes when returning from sleep

I recently started using a Kensington Bluetooth mouse with my MacBook Pro and the computer freezes whenever I return the computer from sleep. Nothing happens when I press Command-Option-Esc. The mouse pointer moves on the screen and the dock magnification works, but I'm not able to open any programs.
I've confirmed that it has something to do with Bluetooth because I now turn off Bluetooth before returning it to sleep and it works fine. I just have to turn on Bluetooth using the trackpad and then I can use the mouse again. I'm thinking that this shouldn't be a requirement though.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do to resolve?
    I appreciate any assistance!
    Thank you,
    Chris
    Mouse: Kensington PilotMouse Mini Bluetooth
    Bluetooth Version: 3.1965 (3.1965)

For those of you who are interested, I think I've isolated the issue. If I turn off the option to allow Bluetooth devices to wake the computer from sleep, my computer doesn't freeze when I return from sleep. This is a better option for me than turning off Bluetooth before I put the computer to sleep.
Let me know if you have any questions.
