Loud dvd drive while using toast....normal?

I just burned some videos onto a dvd-udf format with toast and my drive made a lot of noise, sounds like a very loud cell-phone vibration. is this normal? the disc still works fine though. thanks.

Yes, they can get pretty noisy when running at full speed

  • HT3964 noisey dvd drive when using with macbook pro retina?

I bought a new macbook pro retina 15" and used the apple external dvd drive to watch a movie and the drive was extremely loud and vibratory - to thr point of nearly not able to hear the movie. I then tried the same drive with the the same dvd with a macbook air and it did not have this issue. Anyone know how to solve the sound issue when using the dvd drive with a macbook pro retina 15"?  Thank you.

Thank you - it is the DVD driver I purchased over a year ago with a Mac book air - I wondered whether they have since updated the DVD driver and therefore wondered about compatibility. I also wondered whether it had to do with the fact that I was on battery power when this happened any further thoughts appreciated.

  • Can an external DVD drive be used with iPad?

Does anyone know if u can use external DVD drives with the ipad2? If not is this the case with all tablet pc's or just apple?

Just about nothing else can be used externally with the iPad except for the camera adapter, and the AV output cables.

  • DVD MENU, burn using TOAST

Has anyone tried this, building a menu using DVDSP, after you build your menu -- you have 2 folders, Video TS, Audio TS. Do you have to burn your DVD using burner inside DVDSP? Or can I drag those TS folders into TOAST and burn it there. If so, where do I drag these files? Data? or Video?
    Appreciate your time and suggestions...
    KChen

    KChen:
I'm a little confused about what you mean with "DVD
MENU" . . . but the answer is yes, you can use Toast
    to burn your <b<disc</b>.
In Toast 7 go to Data and choose format DVD-ROM
UDF. NAme your disc and drag both VIDEO_TS and
    AUDIO_TS folder inside. Burn.
Another approach is creating a disc image of
your build in DVDSP and use that img file in Toast or
OSX Disk Utility. You can find here a complete
tutorial about Creating Disc Image in DVDSP (from
    www.kenstone.net site).
    Hope it helps !
    Alberto
    Dear Silal:
You know how DVDSP allows you to build your menu with a nice template and navigation buttons. When you burn DVD using Toast, it only gives you one button.
So my question is, how do you use that nice menu layout that DVDSP offers, and then using Toast to burn your disc. Do you always have to open DVDSP to burn your disc? Or can you use Toast to burn your disc and keeping it stored away so everytime you want to make a copy, all you have to do is use Toast.
The second part of my question, if I want to burn my disc using toast with the template built from DVDSP, do I burn it by dragging in the TS folders into DATA or VIDEO in Toast.
I hope this is clearer, and I appreciate any suggestions, I'm very new at doing this.
    Many thanks!!!

  • Photo files disapearing from hard Drive while using Lighroom not relink issue, any ideas?

I've been using Lightroom and while using it files have been disappearing, I understand how to relink the files, it's not that.
The file folders are showing up but the files are missing. Not all files are affected. They haven't been in my trash.
Seagate have sent me a 'What a shame, it's not our fault email' Won't be buying any more of their products. They say it's a lightroom / Mac OS problem.
Does anyone know how I can retreive these missing files? If they've had the same problem? Thank you.

Does anyone know how I can retreive these missing files?
    Restore from your backup copies
Download and install an "undelete utility" (there are free ones available) and see if it can recover the files

  • How do i deny access to an External Hard Drive while using user switching

    Hello,
I have a QuickSilver running Tiger (Leopard upgrade coming when RAM arrives) and have 4 users ( fast user switching enabled). I would like to deny all access to the external hard drives except for the my account on the box.
I have already have gone into the info Sharing & Permissions and only allowed myself to have access, others have "no access" however when I switch user (using fast user switching) they assume ownership of the drives and have access.
Just so you understand the overall direction I would like to go. I'm a photographer and my images are loaded on various external hard drives which is plugged in to the desktop. Family uses the desktop and do not want them to access my work on the external hard drive, however I do need to connect via my laptop to edit images via ethernet which I would obviously enter the admin username and password for the desktop when challenged.
    Any ideas???
    dsh
P.S. I also changed the permissions via unix to 700 but guess what it doesn't matter! It still assumed the other users ownership upon switch. Does anyone have a proven solution?

    D. Fraser wrote:
When you Get Info on the Drives, who is the owner of the Drives? What exactly are the permissions? Do all of the other users use an admin account? You might have to chmod the root user of the drive to your admin account, change the user to no-access, and everyone to no-access.
how does one "chmod the root user of the drive to your admin account"?
can that be done with terminal inside an administrator account, or does root need to be enabled and logged into?

  • Cannot successfully burn a DVD on MacBook using Toast Titanium

I keep getting an error -208 about 68% through the compression process. I really need to be able to use this burn function for work. Anyone wanna save my life?

    which toast version you have?
are you sure that the file is valid and not corrupted?
check toast updater from roxio for latest patch.
update your macbook software and hardware (quick time is one of them) and repair permission after that.
    Good Luck.

  • Panther to Tiger using LaCie Firewire DVD drive

First, it was suggested I start a new topic, because of using an external Firewire drive. I have the proper Tiger "Retail" install disk. This is for a friends iMac that did not come with a DVD/Combo drive.
Anything anyone can suggest. I'm hoping the following will work:
    1. iMac has latest firmware, and is up to date with latest Panther.
    2. hook up LaCie external firewire DVD drive, and as long as it is recognized on the desktop of my friends iMac, that I will be able to then insert/load the Tiger Install Disk and double click on it to install Tiger onto the iMac.
    3. I additionally have the option of taking over my Intel dual-core MacBook (Leopard installed) and using that in Target Disk Mode with the Tiger disk in the combo drive of the MacBook. Will it then install on the iMac?
    4. I appreciate any and all suggestions and help. I read through numerous posts, but all the links for the Applelink article about installing using Target Disk Mode simply take me to the main page of Applelink and I can't seem to find the instructions.
    5. I'm just wondering anyone's experience in using an external Firewire DVD drive to use as the install disk for the OSX Tiger installation to an older iMac.
    thanks! Patrick.

Hi Patrick, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    1. Good.
    2. Should work if it's Mac compatable, you'll find out soon enough.
    3. Very likely.
    4. The iMac should see the MacBook's DVD as bootable when the MB is in Target Mode.
    5. It works with many FW Opticals, but a few do not support Mac Booting.
    6. Another option possibly, you can clone an image of the DVDs to a FW drive and boot from that for an install too... I've used Toast to do it, but it can be done with Disk Utility.
PS. I doubt you'll have problems with 2 ways to go there, good luck!

  • Satellite L300-19U - How can I reinstall Vista without working DVD drive?

    Hello
I have a big problem with my notebook Toshiba Satellite L300-19U.
I did installed 1month ago Windows XP on it and now is my DVD-ROM broken, it didn't read DVD just CD's. So I can't use my Vista recovery DVD to reinstall Vista. Did anyone had the same problem?
I heard there is a partition (hiden) where the recovery is on it. How I can find this partition? And if I find her, can I boot directly from the partition to recover Vista? If no,is there a other chance to recover it?
Please help me to reinstall the Vista recovery partition!

    Hi!
The hidden partition that you mean is a Windows Vista feature but you cant restore Vista with this partition. The point is that the partition is also deleted because you have installed Windows XP on it.
Restoring Vista without recovery disk is only possible if Vista is still installed on it. Then you can go in the advanced boot menu and select repair my computer. Then you can choose the Toshiba HDD recovery option. This is a feature that restores Vista from the second partition.
But as I said only possible with installed Vista.
Just one question: Why do you dont go to an authorized service provider? If your notebook is still under warranty you should get a new CD/DVD drive for free. Normally it should only take few days and then you are able to install Vista again! :)

  • Won't boot to DVD drive.

    Hi friends,
Could anyone help me figure out why my iMac will not boot to the DVD Drive while I hold down the "C" key? It just starts-up to my main drive, as usual. I've tried several bootable discs including Tiger Install 1 and DiskWarrior. No dice.
Any clues? Everything else appears to be as usual. I repaired permissions and ran Cocktail. All fine there too. Thank you so much. Dan

Hi Malcolm. You totally helped me solve my problem.
I figured out, through your questioning, that the new 'flat' Apple keyboard I bought came with a disc to alter system preferences and accept the new keyboard.
When I took my computer to the Genius Bar recently, they used a different keyboard.
I plugged in my old keyboard and the restart-"C" worked pefectly. THANKS so much for poking around with me on this. I would have been stumped if I hadn't thought it through, with your help.
Now I just need to figure out how to get another copy of the keyboard install CD- because I've misplaced it. So back to the old keyboard for now. THANKS again, man! Dan

you should be able to boot off a usb thumb drive. there are lots of resources on the web for doing this. i've also found a thread to enable you to decide which device to boot from, including the USB drive by holding down option while starting up...

  • DVD drive failed after upgrade to 10.4.9

After upgrading to OS X 10.4.9 I noticed that my internal DVD drive (SuperDrive Pioneer DVR-104) failed.
I did the delta upgrade and immediately checked the most common "error" of misbehaving eject key. The key did not function at all, even after pressing it for minutes.
Later I found out that the complete drive failed.
System Profiler tells me (sorry german output)
    Modell: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Version: 0000
    Seriennummer:
    Absteckbares Laufwerk: Nein
    Protokoll: ATAPI

    Socket-Typ: Intern
Note: no version or serial number!
DVD player gives the message (translated):
"no valid DVD drive found [-70012]"
Toast does not find the drive.
    I did:
    - repair permissions
    - repair drive/file system
    - the combo upgrade
    - reset parameter ram
    - reset all from open firmware
    - reset PMU
    no change
Do you have any hints besides replacing the drive?
Maybe it's just a coincidence. I did not use the drive for 2 weeks before
    the upgrade.

  • IDVD won't recognize second DVD drive.

The DVD drive in my G5 stopped functioning, so I plugged in a FireWire external DVD drive. The OS recognizes the DVD disk and the external drive, but iDVD does not. When I click the "Burn" button, it opens the drawer of the built-in (non-functional) DVD drive and tells me to insert a blank DVD.
There seems to be no facility for telling iDVD which DVD drive to use. Am I missing something?
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi John:
You might want to try what Len Goff always recommends:
Create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

Alternatively, you may want to get PatchBurn.

  • How do I move files in iCloud while using my mini iPad?

I just recently got an iPad mini with retina display.  This is my first iPad.  There are many things that are new to me.
At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how to move or delete files in iCloud Drive while using my mini iPad.  As I understand it, the only way to look at, organize or move files in the iCloud drive is to login to iCloud via a browser other than installing a separate specific application that lets me do that.  However, I have found that even if I login to the iCloud drive using a browser, I still can't move or delete files while using the mini iPad although I can view the file list and folder list, create file folders, and use files for which I already have an application installed.
How do I get around this so that I can do those things?  Do I really have to get a separate application to do that?  If so, what's a good one to use?

Hi Files get sent to iCloud when you backup this happens Automatically When you charge your iPad Since ios 7 Almost everything can be done over your WiFi Software updates  apps& data can all be synced over WiFi We have  2 iPhones & 3 iPads & have not used PC for over a year. For Apple Devices. Go to ibooks download iPad user guide its Free. Cheers Brian
