Loud electronic screeching noise when ejecting CD

I was copying CDs to iTunes using the "Import Songs and Eject" feature (iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing, set "On CD insert" to "Import Songs and Eject"). When ejecting the drive occasionally makes a loud electronic screeching noise. Is there something wrong with my drive or is this normal?
Thanks in advance,

Are you sure it is electronic? I looked at my MBP and it seems like the flaps they have covering the drive are just a little too long and rigid and make a screeching sound when ejecting a disc.
I would pop in a disk, without using iTunes, and then eject it and listen to if the noise is coming from the flap on the drive or somewhere else.

  • Screeching noise when sliding to unlock

A screeching noise sounds at times: then it becomes impossible to listen to music or to view a video (the video screen gets black) and the sounds screen appears like turning as an overlay even if not pressing the volume.
I have tried to reset the settings, checked with syncing, applied the troubleshooting advice.
If I let the iPod rest for several hours (sometimes less), there is no more the screeching noise, then it works fine.
I haven't figured out what could have caused the defect, although this iPod is used by a teenager who is special needs and may be mistreating it. But if this is a bug and someone would know it, I'd appreciate your advice.
    Thanks very much in advance

Hi David, and thank you for replying me, I apologize I hadn't seen it earlier. I had done what you advised. It did not change the problem. Eventually, it stopped. It has then done it again several times, each time, I had the iPod "sit" for a couple of hours, or even a night, and it subsided.
Two days ago, it did it again, and to no avail. What happens then is that I have the sound icon appear in the middle of the screen, turn itself while squeeching loud, and then the video plays (or not, then I have a black screen) and no sound at all.
I have reset the iPod. I am wondering whether I should go to erasing the data now.
All the applications (except the video and the music) seem to be working fine.
This iPod Touch is used by a teenager with special needs (he does not speak) so he hasn't been able to tell me what he did before it happened, and it seemed to have happened pretty randomly. He manipulatesthe iPod with great dexterity (fast and often), but if he had broken it, no other application would work, or at least this is what I suppose.
    Any idea?

  • Horrible, screeching noise when i plug nano into my car's auxiliary

Thats right...the auxiliary......with which my 160 gig classic has no problem whatsoever in playback, seems to like to cause mayhem when it is my nano who is feeding it.
I know there are a couple of threads on this....but.... twas never resolved.
Go to Apple Store? It would be hard to walk my car into the apple store to show them what i mean.
This is not the "hiss". This is rather, a horrible static-y-scratchy-screechy noise.
Few people in the other threads mentioned the built in FM tuner causing disruption with the car's connection..(seems the most logical explanation of yet)
On a side note, decided to return my iPad. Yeah I ate the $50 fee, but now i have got the funds for the nice iPad 2 with Facetime camera:)))))

Do you by any chance have the volume limit set on the iPod?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303414
Unfortunately, if you increase the volume of a song in iTunes, all you do is make it so that the maximum volume on the iPod is reached before the volume bar is at full. It won't make the iPod's overall volume any louder.
For example, if you increase a track's volume in iTunes by +100% then when it's on the iPod you will find that that track hits it's maximum volume level at about half volume, and turning the iPod up to full volume will not increase the volume any higher after this point. A track which has not had it's volume altered in iTunes will reach exactly the same sound level, although of course you will need to turn the volume level of the iPod to full in this instance.

  • Screeching noise when I plug it into charge

The problem started last night....I plugged the Iphone onto charge for its nightly top up and as soon as you hear the connected noise it started screeching. It does stop after about 10 seconds. I switched airplane mode on and this still happens. It was fine the night before, nothing unusual has happened in the 24hr period.
Tried different plug locations. Unable to try an alternative charger but will attempt to do so.

    Hi Carrie19720,
Based on your description of the issue, it sounds like you may need to have your iPhone serviced to determine the extent of the damage and your available options. You may find the following page helpful:

  • Why do my speakers make a loud hissing/white noise when the aux cable is plugged in at the same time my thunderbolt to dvi adapter/cable is plugged in?

I have tried this with headphones and speakers and the result is the same. I have tried this with multiple displays, multiple thunderbolt to dvi adapters, and multiple dvi cables. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? Thank you in advance!

What's on the other end of the Aux cable

  • MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II loud electronic buzzing sounds not fan sounds.

Yeah I built a new computer and every time I go into Starcraft 2 and start playing a game the video card starts making a loud electronic buzzing noise that varies with pitch whenever something changes on screen.  There is no problem with the video just a the really distracting noise.
I know it's not fan noise since I have afterburner installed and I can test the fan at different speeds to see what it sounds like.  Even at full speed the fans don't sound even half as distracting as this buzzing.
I have the latest driver from MSI and I have even tried a previous driver too.
This kinda sounds like I might have to just return the video card for another one.
I looked for any forum posts about this problem but only found one where there was no solution.

From reading about coil whine I guess there is a chance that the PSU itself is to blame?
I will see if I can get another computer to test the card in.  But I probably can't.

Normally/typically yes, but could be also something else like mainboard or the VGA itself

  • Loud screeching noise

not sure if this is something on my end or what, but my whole family has AT&T. i am the only one with the iPhone 4s well when my friend calls me from his Verizon iPhone 4, sometimes when i answer i hear this horrendous loud screeching noise! he claims it is my phone. he never hears the noise. but it only happens when he calls.. not when i call him or when anyone else calls me... but it doesn't happen to anyone else when he calls them... is this an apple or AT&T issue?? sometimes it happens more frequently than others and it is getting really annoying to have to answer his call, listen to the noise, hang up, then call him back and hear him scream because my phone is a piece of crap. anyone else had this happen to them??

his phone is crap, and so is his network provider.  its definitely not your phone.  all phones experience this on occassion, sometimes when the signal is weak. if this doesn't happen when anyone else calls you, just him, then that's a pretty clear indicator that it's got to do with him, and his phone, not yours (you've got a 4s, the best phone on the planet).  verizon *****, their network technology is inferior in every way. i would suggest you either convince him to move to at&t or stop being friends with him?

When i plugged my ipod into the computer it started to make buzzing and screeching noises. It became hot so i removed it and then the screen froze while it continued to make these noises. I have never had anything like this happen. (never gotten it wet or had it exposed to extreme temperatures) It is also unresponsive to any buttons on the ipod and it didn't show up when i plugged it into my computer. What do I do? Also if it is unfixable could i get a free one from apple?

  • Loud noise when iSight launches from iMovie

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a MacBook Pro and when I launch iMovie and slide the little button (scissors to movie camera) to turn on the iSight my MBP makes a loud (EEEEEHHHHHH) sound. When it happens it sounds like my speakers are going to blow. It lasts for about a second or two. Is this a known problem?
The problem doesn't occur when I launch Photo Booth, only iSight.
    I'm current on all updates.
    Steve

    Hello Steve,
    Is this a known problem?
It is not a known problem with iSight. Here are a couple of things you should try.
First, try turning your speakers' volume off before sliding the button. Then turn you sound up gradually, and let us know if the problem still exists.
If you use an external microphone or speakers, you can also try disconnecting them to see wether they might be causing your problem.
Next, try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in How to Troubleshoot iSight. Be sure to include the checks to determine whether the problem is "application-specific" or "user-specific".
If I am correct that you have already tested both iMovie and Photo Booth, you were wise to test with more than one application. However, Photo Booth does not record sound, so that may be why you are not getting the noise with Photo Booth. Try some other applications that can record sound.
In addition to iMovie, any of the other video or movie clip applications from this list can record both video AND SOUND with your iSight. So can the apps linked in the "iSight as a surveillance or Nanny cam section of that page.
If you have it, QuickTime Pro is an easy one to use with your iSight.
Some clip recording applications, like Gcam, are free.
Others, like WebcamTweaker, offer free demos that you could use to test if they give better results than iMovie.
These tests will let you determine whether your problem is in your iSight itself or is an iMovie problem, and they may help you fix the problem while you are doing the checks.
Please let us know what fixes your problem.
If your problem remains after the tests, please post back what you tried and include any new info that your testing provides.
    Cheers,
    Jim
