Loud fan noise while gaming on GT70 gaming laptop

I've loved my laptop ever since I bought it but there seems to be one problem with the fan possibly.
The fan noise is really audible and it gets annoying when I'm gaming. Games like Fable Anniversary (highest setting) forces the fan to be turned on and make loud noises that even wearing a headset wouldn't help avoid. You know how new MSI laptops have a button for turning on cooler boost 2? It feels like it gets turned on by itself while playing some, if not most games.
I would first like to know if this is normal for a gaming laptop. Its REALLY annoying, I even tried the GT70 Fan control 1.63 but the fan keeps turning on by itself. I understand that the GTX 870m gets heated fast and therefore needs to cool off, but like on almost every game.....Skyrim, Tera (not even that demanding.....and not even on max setting ....) long hours of playing league of legends, The Last Remant..etc. I wanna play without such loud fan noises  I don't mind if its audible but not too loud, I can even hear the fan noise from upstairs if I leave my room door opened. I would really enjoy playing Tera and Archeage without such irritating, loud sound that really distracts me and makes me fear that its abnormal. Hell, even Rift (MMORPG) released in 2011, would turn on turbo fan.... =(. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There isn't much you can do with the tool but better than nothing.
It didn't fix the fan problem =/
I'm not the only one with such problem, https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=256673.0 look at the 2nd video and just listen to how loud the fan noise is. (Yes different models but same crap)
The silent option doesn't fully stop/slowdown the fan,  maybe just momentarily then once you open up the game, the fan goes back to its usual 3k RPM. Is there ANY way to stop this? its been happening ever since I bought it and it really makes me not wanna play simply because of the noise that is audible even through wearing a headset. Let alone not wearing a headset....
Sad it happens even when playing fifa 15. I mean is fifa 15 even THAT demanding? the answer is no, not even close to demanding as its using the same engine as 13, 14 ..etc. Also, I played it on my old lenovo laptop that had WAY lower specs such as gt 650m graphics card and yet the fan was extremely quiet, and I might add it was on highest setting....
I understand that the gpu can get heated fast, but on almost EVERY game? at first I thought the fan will only make such noises when playing highly demanding games such as Skyrim. A game from 4 years ago without any frkin mods. or Fable Anniversary..OR Prison Break: Conspiracy (what the f?) but it turns out that the fan will go turbo mode on literally every game. so in conclusion, every game is suddenly demanding thus the Cooler Booster 2 will automatically turn on.

  • What it means loud fan noise?

    Hi there,
I have a Imac G5 Rev2 and I read a lot of topics about loud fan noise. I bought an Imac about 4 months ago and the fan noise is a bit louder than when I just got it. What do all the users mean by "loud"? It is only once, when I was running the hardware test, that I heard my Imac did the "airplane" (very loud) fan noise. When I am using applications using a lot of CPU, I hear a louder fan noise but not the "airplane" noise.
Then what is the most reliable program to check the temperature of the iMac G5?
Which range of temperature is normal for the iMac?
Thx in advance for ya replies....

I have a Rev b just like you and light use the temp of the cpu is 65-68º C while the hard drive is about 53º C. This is the temp as I am using two browsers, with iTunes and MS word open and running.
For a temp program you can try Temperature Monitor at this link:
    http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
You can also try the very handy iStat Pro Widget (Of which the temps I gave you above came from). It has a lot of very useful data, from CPU to Memory usage, from CPU to Hard Drive temps---and even the speed of all three fans. You can find that here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
    Hope this helps.

  • Black Screen...loud fan noise

While online today, the power in our house went out.  When the power came back on, I re-started my Mac.  Black Screen and loud fan noise.  I have turned my Mac off and on about 10 times.  I've also unplugged.  Still black screen and fan noise. Any suggestions?

I moved my iMac to another room, plugged it in and turned it on. Black screen and racing fans. No beeps. I've tried all the PRAM and SMC resets, still nothing.
Not the exact same issue. Please create your own thread. However please do the SMC reset at least 3x back to back. It is also  possible you are not doing it correctly, please follow the directions in:https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603

  • Hp Pavillion dv7 - very loud fan noise (cracking)

My HP Pavillion dv7 starts up with a veqry loud fan noise.
It is still under warranty (hp care) tii 23/12/2011
Is the fan broken or can i resolve the problem myself

    Hi,
If the fan is making a lot more noise than usual and sounds as if it's cracking, this is very likely to be a mechanical issue.  By far the best suggestion I can make is that you contact HP straight away and arrange to have this repaired while the notebook is still under warranty.
The telephone number to arrange this can be found on the relevant link below.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • What is causing the very Loud Fan noise everytime I use the computer? What is causing the Heat as well?  Please help

    Please Help!
My computer has been making very LOUD fan noises. I know this cant be normal. How can I fix this issue?
This has been going on for a while now. As soon as I turn on the computer....the noise starts.

Go check out Activity Monitor on your Mac.  It will show you which programs are running, and how heavy their use of your CPU is.
When mine does this, for some reason, I have a bunch of "Managed Clients" running at once.  I use Act. Mon. to shut them down, and my Mac runs normally.

  • Mac Pro will not boot, constant loud fan noise and nothing else

    hello,
earlier tonight,i put my mac pro on sleep, then later on, when i wanted to take it off sleep and use it, it made the loud fan noise, which it always does but goes away, but this time it the fan wount slow down and the loud noise stays and i dont see anything on the screen. im guessing the fan noise is the ATI x1900 card...
any help please..i just bought it 2 months ago...

Hi, here are the steps I would go through. I would unplug the Mac Pro completely from everything and look at the video card's fan intake to make sure it isn't plugged and just make sure everything "looks" correct. I would then plug the machine back into one monitor/keyboard/mouse (leave all the other peripherals disconnected. Once that is done push the power button. Does anything happen? If not then if you have another mac and an external hard drive, make a copy of the OS on the drive and see if you can get the Mac Pro to boot off that drive. If the video card doesn't work then it will not show anything when booting off an external drive. If the external boot does work then I would suspect that you have a bad hard drive (or it crashed). At that point I hope you have a back up of all your data and such.
Mind you these are steps I would go through. What a nightmare. One other thing to check, make sure your monitor didn't die.

  • My 2008 Macbook Pro makes a loud fan noise.

    Hello -
I bought my 15" macbook pro back in October 2008. I was very happy with my purchase due to the machine's performance. But over the past year I have noticed an increase in the fan noise. It almost sounds like it's hitting against something at a very high speed, hense this irregular fan noise. The noise also increases drastically when I am working on Photoshop or InDesign. I also partitioned my hard-drive to hold windows so I can work on AutoCad.....noise increases also as I work on my machine.
Why is this happening? Could this loud fan noise damage any internal component to the machine? Should I bring it in to Apple immediately?
    Thank you!

Some of the applications that you mention are somewhat CPU intensive which creates heat and results in fan speed increase and hence additional noise (to state the obvious).  However if you are experiencing excessive noise when CPU loads are modest it could be that your fans are failing as all mechanical devices eventually will or you may have 'schmutz' inside that is the cause of the unwanted noise.
I suggest you open the MBP and see if there is any dust in the fans that may very well be affecting their performance.  After 4 years, this is not an uncommon situation and it could be the solution to the problem.
If not, then you may consider getting replacements from iFixit or Powerbook Medic and replace them your self.  It is not rocket science in this instance.  If you suffer from chronic fingerfumbilitis, then have the Apple store do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro retina start to make loud fan noise and work slow

I bought macbook pro retina display less than one years ago. For some reason my macbook pro has been making loud fan noise for about five mounth. Whenever macbook pro makes the noise, all the programs start to run slow. Typing, opening safari, and etc takes forever. It takes 20min to 40min for the noise to stop. At first, the macbook pro made noise once or twice in a day, but now it's making the noise frequently; It happens every 2-3 hours. It got to the point where it start to annoying me. Is there a way for me to fix this issue? If not, can I use one year warrenty to fix this problem? Thank you.

If your Mac works slowly when fans turn on, it's quite possible that there's a process which is eating the CPU and/or RAM.
Open Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities), select "All Processes" above "Show" (in the toolbar) and then, order the processes by CPU usage. Do you see any process which is consuming more CPU or RAM? If so, tell us the name.
Additionally, you can reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Hi,
I had the same problem, one of my fans was making a loud noise even when my computer was just idling. It can occur because you dropped the computer, thus damaging one of the fans, or the fan broke down partially. I took mine to the Apple genius bar and they ordered a new fan for me and installed it in under a week (all covered by warranty). This is likely a hardware and not software issue, the only way for a fix is taking it to a genius bar.

  • Updated to Mavericks and loud fan noise

Just done a clean install of Mac OS X Mavericks, updated fine, everything went well.
however most of the time, my macbook pro fan noise would go really loud for 5-10mins even in idle or if im on the internet just browsing.
this has not happened ever on mountain lion.
    its really weird.
Does anybody know how to fix this? or is this a bug and would i have to wait for a software update?

    Hello all,
I am having the same issue, constant loud fan noise in my Mac book pro. Below are the specs:
    "MacBook Pro
    13-inch, Mid 2010
Processor  2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9 (13A603)"
    And CPU is 90% idle.
I tried to reset the SMC using the steps:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug your Mac in, if not already plugged in.
    3. Press (left side) Shift-Control-Option & the power button at the same time.
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Inaddition, i have reinstalled OS and reset PRAM memory but the problem still exists.
It really feels annoying with the fan sound. Could someone give a fix.

  • Loud fan noise on mountain lion, Mac Pro early 2008

    Hi there,
I've recently installed mountain lion 10.8.5 lon my Mac Pro , early 2008, 2,8 GHz, 24 gb ram, 2x ATI Radeon 2800 XT.
To give it a clean shot i clean installed it on a sep. Partition, no upgrade from my previous Snow Leopard.
The Machine usually works quiet, i've measured via Isat Menu:
    exhaust fan: 681 rpm
    HD/expansion: 1100 rpm
After running Mointain Lion, latest update version, i get a much louder fan noise than in snow leopard:
    exhaust fan: 845-950 rpm
    HD/expansion: 1500 - 1800 rpm
The activity monitor shows no significant CPU usage, only the kernal has over 90 threads constantly running.
I've heard that this is a known issue but it's never been resolved. SMC and PRAM reset did not work at all.
when i go back to snow leopard everything gets back to normal. Yosemite is even harder on fan noise than mountain lion
so i've rolled back to mountain lion.
    Any idea ?
    dezzo

no one here with the same problem on an early 2008 Mac Pro ?

  • Why is my imac (mid2011) doing a loud fan noise?

I had my imac since 2011 and never had a problem with it, until 1 month ago. It started to make a loud fan noise. I already reset the SMC, (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) but I keep hearing it. Also checked in disc utility and everything is fine (not a disc problem).

I run Apple Hardware Test and gave me this:
    4SNS/1/C0000008: TL0p-- 124
(during the test the imac went silent for a couple of seconds)

  • U310 loud fan noise

    Hey everyone!
I just got a new u310 a few days ago. It has Windows 8 installed. I started working on the notebook, hoping the fan noise would eventually stop but it is really really noisy. I installed a software, which would indicate a temperature of 36°C, so usually the fan shouldn't be working on such a high level in the first place. I have read a couple of posts about this, but no one seems to have found a solution for tge U310 specifically.
Does anyone have the same problem? I thought maybe there is a BIOS update which would help...?
    Thanks a lot,
    Sonni

    hi Sonni_87,
The loud fan noise that you're hearing, is it a:
    1. A wind noise?
         - If it is, this is normal as faster fan speed causes wind noise on the vents (this usually happens if you're getting unusual heat and the fan spins at a higher rate to cool down the CPU/GPU.
    2. A grinding / rattling noise?
         - this indicates that the fan is struggling - It's possible that it's hitting something, is dirty or is starting to wear out and needs to be replaced.
Also, the BIOS can configure on how the fan spins. It's possible that the configuration is set to make the fan spin at a higher rate even on less load on the CPU/GPU (like in this article). In this case, you may need to contact lenovo report this issue

  • Are loud fan noises supposed to be heard when installing and downloading mac updates?

I was wondering if it was normal for my macbook pro w/ retina display to make loud fan noises when installing/download mac software?

Yes.  THat is normal because OSX turns the fan on high because the cpu and hard drive are writing files as quickly as they can make them.  Software updates are sometimes intense on the CPU so the fan is turned on each time an update happens
