LOUD iMac after using for 30 minutes or so...

I can't figure out if it's the fan or the hard drive that gets loud but something does. When the computer is turned on it's fine. After about 30 minutes or so of use it gets loud. It's in the family room and bugging everyone! Where do I start to figure out what the problem is or if it's normal?

Downloaded the iStat and have been using the computer until it started getting noisy again. I don't know what the normal temperature and fan speeds should be so here is where my machine is at now when it's noisy.

I have been using Lightroom successfully on my MacBook pro for the past few weeks and been pleased how much better it is compared to iPhoto. Especially its speed.
This week a few minutes after starting Lightroom the spinning colour wheel appears and the machine is effectively hung. Nothing responds. Sometimes after many minutes the mouse pointer reappers but the colour wheel immediately reappears if the mouse is moved or any attempt is made to do anything. Only recourse is to force a power down and re-boot. But then the same thing happens.
System is MacBook Pro (15") from late 2008, 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM (Have tried 3 GB but this makes no difference.) Running Mac os 10.9.5 (Mavericks)
I have checked file permissions and file system with Disk Utility, it found no problems. Have optimised Lightrooms catalogue. All made no difference.
I completely stuck now so any help appreciated,

It looks like you have a 15" mid 2010. You can try the SMC reset. If that doesn't work, see the free repair program for similar issues:

This Could be a double hop problem or some thing could have gone wrong with your SPN
This could also be non trusted Service Account under which your SQL Server is running

Freeze up after using for awhile...

I am having issues with my iBook freezing up after using for awhile. It will start up just fine, programs run just fine, but when i've been on the internet for a while (or typing in Word or anything requiring a significant amount of memory)my iBook freezes up and there is a periodic clicking noise coming from the lower left hand side (by the vent). I've tried resetting the memory and that didn't seem to help anything. Once the computer is frozen it is down for a while. It will only start up after it has been disconnected from any power source overnight. Then everything runs fine for a while and then the clicking begins again. Does this sound like an overheating issue, harddrive issue or software? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My iBook now refuses to safe boot but instead will boot up normally! I haven't had any issues with it freezing up but I have only been using iTunes to transfer music to my ipod.
The S.M.A.R.T. status of my drive is "verified".
When attempting to boot into "safe mode", the loud clicking happens immediately but stops after about a minute or two and then the grey apple and progress indicator appear. It will stay like this for a couple of minutes and then it automatically restarts and will boot up into the normal mode.
When attempting to repair my drive via the system disk, I get the error message that the underlying task reported failure on exit. Written in red in the message window is "Keys out of order".
Also, the archive and install feature is not working. It tells me that there was an installation error and to retry installation.
I will look into expanding the memory and additional disk repair software.
I connect to the internet via ethernet(cable modem) and/or airport.

With those symptoms (assuming you're getting this on iTunes for Windows), I'd try the following document:

To make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using any backup data afterwards. Set up the rest of the personal settings manually and test the phone. If it still does not work, this is a hardware issue and the phone has to be serviced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:

IMac 17" 1.25GHz crashes after using for a while

Hello, I have the following problem that started happening last week:
When I turn on my iMac, and use it for about 5-10 minutes, the screen freezes and changes color either to almost totally black or either the contents kinda slide down and all that is left is different colors of lines and patterns that change colors after a while.
When this happens, the computer doesn't respond to anything, and I have to shut it down by pressing the power button for a while. Sometimes when I try to reboot after this, it wont even go to the boot screen or make the startup noise.
Usually before this happens, I can hear this sound that sounds like the harddrive is trying to do something, or maybe the DVD -drive ? Anyway, it's a short sound.
I have tried the following to troubleshoot this, none have helped:
- Ran the extended Apple Hardware Test, everything passed
- Zapped the PRAM and NVRAM
- Checked the S.M.A.R.T. status of harddrive, status passed
- Removed all external hardware
Probably it is a hardware issue, but is there anyway to troubleshoot it, or do I have to take it to Apple repairs ? The machine is about 2.5 years old, and the only thing recently that has changed is that I installed the Airport card about 2 months ago.

Yeah I might think it's overheating too, but the harddrive always makes this strange noise before the crash happens, so it could be related to the hdd? Or in the worst case, the motherboard.
Any tips on how to check for overheating? I have tried to run temperature monitor software, but the only sensor it detects is the hdd, and it looks fine.
I haven't opened my iMac fully ever, just the user serviceable parts. I installed an Airport card about 1 month before this started happening, could this be related?

we are connecting to SQL mgmt studio app published on citrix, using Windows authentication and Kerberos to forward the credentials to the linked servers and avoid the double hop issue, that part is working fine, we already have the Constrained
delegation, SPNs and Active directory settings for the Service accounts and the authentication is working, we can connect to the linked servers without errors, it's only whe the Session get idle when we faced the issue, the citrix team already have verifyed
any timeout setting and they mentioned there is no 10 minute timout setting anywhere, we also looked at the Kerberos AD Global policy settings to see if maybe the kerberos service ticket was expiring, but the configured values are Maximum lifetime
for service ticket 600 minutes Maximum lifetime for user ticket 10 hours Maximum lifetime for user ticket renewal 7 days, if you have any other suggestion please let me know.

X61: Constant low humming noise After using for an hr. or so.

After using the notebook for an hr. or so, low irritating/humming noise starts that continues without interruption. The noise appears to be not from the HD side, rather from the opposite side.
Noise continues whether used with battery or power outlet or both.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite L505D-LS5002 laptop recently and am not happy at all with the annoying fan sound I hear for about 15 seconds every 50-60 seconds. It is too loud to ignore. I am not a computer "guru" and am just assuming it is the fan. What else could be making this annoying sound. It is a sort of humming/whistling sound that "revs" up for about 15 to 20 seconds and then stops abruptly, only to start up again in about a minute or so.

Can an iMac be used for WD My Book Live safepoints?

I have a Western Digitial My Book Live network drive. All Mac's and PC's can read/write without a problem. I would like to create a safepoint (WD term for backup) on an iMac but can't seem to get past correctly discovering the devices on the network. The MBL can 'see' the shares on the XP PC but nothing on the Mac's. Unfortunately the XP PC is not suitable for backups.
Can a Mac be used for MBL safepoints? If so, how is that accomplished?
Yes, I've posted this same question the WD Support and WD Communities but no responses. Most MBL Mac users posting on WD forums are using them for Time Machine. I thought maybe someone on the Apple forums might have solved this problem.

Very repeatable on a Win 8.1 machine and a different Win 7 machine. Both PC's are less than 1 years old. PLEASE help. Long time Adobe PSE fan, but this is not good. I have 13,000+ photos all organized and tagged starting 10 years ago with a much earlier version of PSE. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. Rebooted numerous times. Now what to do? Thanks.

I created a new catalog on the Win 7 machine and brought in 8 to 10 pictures. It's be up for 10 minutes or so and I will leave it run through out the day. But, this looks good so far. What does this tell you? I mirror the catalog in question from the WIN 8 machine to the Win 7 machine in a one way transfer. (so when the Win 8 machine started to work, I really thought the Win 7 machine would do the same) I have been doing this with PSE since it was created many years ago. So, again, the catalog is identical for both machines. It's nice, because I always maintain the Win8 Catalog as new pictures arrive etc, but we use the Win 7 machine for most of the picture viewing with friends etc.

Help!! Apple 23" Display is graying out after running for 20 minutes.

My Apple display is greying and plad-like patterns after being on for 20 minutes. I thought the video card was getting hot so I opened up the computer and turned on a large fan to cool it. it would still go grey after about 30 minutes. Then I bought a new Radeon x 800xt, installed that since it had a built in fan-- still happened. Then ran hardware test; got the 2FAN 4/8: Fan For BACKSIDE message. Reset the SMU. Then I thought I had something wrong with my surge supressor so I plugged directly into outlet. Nothing seems to work.
The screens breaks down in gray and sometimes blue and sometimes stripes.
Does anyone have any ideas? thanks

Well Apple Hardware Test on the install disks doesn't get updated with OS and firmware changes, so you might be getting a false positive from that.
You should get Hardware Monitor over at Macupdate.com, in the sensor overview window it will give you the recommended fan and temps for your particular machine.
If your fan is dead or not keeping up around with the other like ones, the CPU or GPU temps are off the wall, them you got a problem.
Reset the PRAM and NVRAM, reboot and hold command option p r until you hear the second chime. Reset your clock in system prefs.
See if that works too.
Learn to clone that boot drive, it will save your bacon one day.
