I am sure many get this problem and sometiems do not know why it is happening but i think i have found out why. While facetiming my girlfriend sometimes i get this loud screeching sound randomly and i did not know why. But now everytime i got a notification it made this loud screeching sound. WHY is this happening?

Sounds like you should contact Apple and get the drive replaced. In the mean time, backup DAILY!

  • A sudden loud screeching sound from my Air

I was browsing a webpage with Safari when suddenly this really loud screeching sound came from my Macbook Air. I am not talking about the small clicks the HD seems to be doing once in a while. This was a very loud screeching sound, like someone cutting glass with a diamond. I didn't have any other programs on and my speakers were off. The sound lasted for about 2 seconds and got me very scared. I immediately checked the temperatures and fanspeeds but they were all normal (CPU around 45 celcius and fan about 2500 rpm).
Now I'm afraid that it was my HD and it will fail on me sooner or later. Everything seems to be work normally now but I already sent all my important documents to another computer.
Any suggestions on what to do next? Should I contact Apple directly?

You have a 1 year warranty.
If you can travel you can go to an Apple Store.
    go to http://www.apple.com/retail/
On the left is a spot to select state and then store.
Each store's web page has a section on the top left that says :
Make a reservation - Use the Apple Store Concierge to make a reservation for the following services:
Genius Bar - The place to go for advice, insight and hands-on technical support.
Make an appt. and bring it in is that's feasible for you.

  • Loud Screeching Sound

The bottom right corner of my macbook (hard drive) made a loud screeching sound.. this is probably the third time I've ever heard it do that in about 4 months of existence. This is not the normal "scratching" sound every 10 seconds that is well documented. This is a loooud screech sound for about half a second, and it has only done it 3x, while only being on safari. Nothing else out of the ordinary happens afterwards.. everything works fine.. just makes me worrisome! I don't want it to crash or anything.
    Any ideas people?

  • Screeching sound while making calls

I just had my iPhone 5 replaced for another issue today. It seems that on my new iPhone 5 I hear a loud sustained beeping or screeching sound that I can hear as well as the other person on the line. Anyone else have this issue?

I started experiencing this same intermittent problem with my 5s. Considered my case (Survivor / Catalyst ) might be at fault but don't think so after researching this issue.
Called Apple Customer Service the Rep confirmed they have been receiving the same complaints from other users. Sound File is the issue.
Was instructed  to restore & update with i0s 7.0.3. After doing so made a couple of calls while rep was holding on my landline and of course operated flawlessly.  But when I used phone later screeching returned.  Plan on going tomorrow to my AT & T store and beg for another phone.
    My wife's 5s doesn't have this problem.

  • Hi-pitched screeching sound while making calls

While using my iphone 5, OTHER PEOPLE report hearing a high-piched screeching sound at various times during the conversation. I don't hear anything unusual (no noise)!!. Has anyone else had this problem? Known fixes? I've had this phone for 1.5 years -- problem only recently, but getting more frequent.

    iphone 5 7.1.2, Verizon
I am having this issue since 4 months. I have received multiple devices as replacement as my phone was still under warranty. Nothing seems to solve this.
I was being suggested below , I tried them all
    1.  Mark calls with ###, once I marked them they came up with an answer there is nothing wrong with the network , change the phone
    2. Next phone had same issues, answer was its due to incoming calls from T mobile.
When I showed them even AT&T people heard it, they suggested to change the phone
    3. Next phone had same issues, they suggested me not to use bluetooth and talk from an area with full bars (now dots). I receive at least 3 dots if not 4 or 5 at my home.
    4. Next phone, they suggested to not restore the back up but setup Iphone as new. I did and only installed 1 app. Still people on other side had screeching sound, this time it was Sprint and T mobile both.
Funny part when I called apple support and verizon for the first time, even they could hear that sound.
No one seems to know why this is happening. I may buy a basic clamshell phone, insert my SIM card in that and use it for a few days to deduce if its device related or carrier. Again I am no expert.

  • Video froze and loud screeching sound

Last nite I was watching a video using iTunes and about halfway through it the video froze and a very loud, annoying screeching sound came through the speakers. I tried to quit iTunes but the entire system was frozen. Only way to stop that screeching noise was to hold down the power key on my MBP and shut it down. After a few moments I rebooted and the MBP seems to be running fine now.
I haven't added any ram or anything else to my MBP in a couple years. Mac Hardware Test says no problems.
    Anyone else ever experience this?

  • How to fix screeching sounds when listening to music, and turning off ipad.

My ipad4 wifi is making screeching sounds while listening to music.  Typing makes
scratchy sounds too.  Happens when ipad is turned off.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

  • Loud Screeching Noise through the Headphones on my Zen Touch?

I've had my Zen Touch for 2 days and it was working fine until one time when I tried to use it all I heard was a high-pitched noise coursing throughout my headphones. I can hear the music slightly but it is massi'vely overpowered by this noise. The noise is almost like the noise you hear when your modem logs online. I've tried changing the EQ settings and trying different tracks, basically everything. Anyone know what to do?

I've tried the headphones on a different source (my computer) and they seem to be working fine. Also, I have tried a different pair of headphones on my Zen Touch, which yielded the same result of a loud screeching sound. I checked the headphone jack with a flashlight and it appears to be clean.Message Edited by juxtapose on 02-5-2005 09:48 PM

  • I hear no sound in FaceTime on iPhone while in conversation with macbook pro

i hear no sound in FaceTime on iPhone while in conversation with macbook pro

This sounds like something similar to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3388112?start=105&tstart=0.
Looks like the problem was on the Macbook Pro. Try ask the person using Macbook Pro turning down the speak volume (System Preferences->Sound->Output->Output Volume)  or the microphone gain (System Preferences->Sound->Input->Input Volume).

  • Lenovo G550: screeching sound from inside the laptop

    Hi,
Since recently, my G550 started producing a loud screeching noise. It happens occasionally, and the sound is like a loud squeak. The laptop was collected from me and sent to the local service centre, but after having it back I can still hear the same loud noise. Has anyone come accross this before? Service centre people suggested it could be the fan problem, but found nothing and assured me it should work fine, but it doesn't.. Please help me with advice, do you think it is something to do with a harddrive and can it lead to something more serious in terms of the functionality???
    Thanks in advance.

  • Screeching sound from Mac Mini

    hello,
ok for a while know there has been a screeching sound emitted from my mac mini. Its like a high pitched squeak, the only way I can describe it is that its like something metal not oiled.
Getting worried about it as I dont know if its a warning of something to go wrong. Fan/harddrive failure?. My warranty is up in 30 days or less.
I've recorded the sound on Amadeus Pro and amplified it a bit. (noise cancelling microphone cut it out)
Wanted to be able to post it on the net somehow and have a link here, but I can mail it to anyone.
    Any help apreciated.
    David

I was so much thinking about when the noise starts, as to whether you hear any change in it if the noise is already happening and the fan changes speed. I would normally expect a 'screeching' type noise to be fan related, and thus that is would change in pitch or intensity - or even stop or start - if the fan changes speed.
It should be covered by warranty unless you've done anything to your mini to void the warranty of course. Whether fan or hard drive, a noise of that sort is indicative of a fault, potentially impending failure, and both components are covered.
It is certainly likely to get worse over time if not resolved - a bearing making this sort of noise is running dry, off center or damaged, and in any of those instances it increases the risk of failure and will bring the onset of that failure nearer.
Also would somebody be able to identify what it is from listening to it.
In many instances yes, but it isn't certain to be possible, nor is it as good a method of diagnosis as having the actual system. In addition, given the impending end of your warranty period, it wouldn't seem a good idea to delay getting the unit to a service center. The sooner they get it, the sooner you get it back!

  • No sound while video recording on N500!

Hello! I just bought Lenovo 3000 N500 for my sister who is in Germany...I want to check everything on laptop, because I want her to use it to skype me...Everything is lovely, except I can't get sound while video recording...Is it possible this laptop has a webcam, but no integrated microphone? But  when I  go and use windows sound recorder that comes with Vista it records audio...But I can't get video to work with audio recording in the same time...Anybody there with a solution? Thank you , people!

    Same problem. Here's my solution:
For now i record video using an app calle "Video FX Live". It records sounds clearly. Native iphone app still doesnt records any sound.
So this proves the sound issues during video recording or facetime IS an IOS BUG.

  • Macbook Pro and Beolab3 random loud popping sound

I'm using Macbook Pro and Bang & Olufsen Beolab3 speakers (powered speakers) connect using headphone output but I hear random loud popping sound. Sometimes so loud that it made me jump. It is definitely not a program generated sound. It is more like some sort of electrical interference. This could happen both while an audio is being played or just on standby. The laptop is less than a month old.
The speakers are fine as I tested with other laptop. Is this normal for this combination? or there actually is a fault with my sound card? I need to know so I can do something about it while it is under warrantee. I was recommend to get a audio DAC. But I need to make sure that it is not a problem with the laptop first.
    Thanks. Please help. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your Mac is all mucked up. Your recourse is an Apple store or Authorized Apple Service. You can also all AppleCare.

  • Interference/ Crackling sound while using voice over...

    Hi folks.
    I'm new to all this "ipod-stuff". I purchased a ipod nano 5G (16GB) lately.
I was playing around with the voice over settings today and accidently discovered the following:
I plugged the ipod to an ipod compatible receiver (Pioneer VSX-918 V) via the ipod-usb cable. The ipod was recognized without any problems and the receiver took over the ipod-controls. So far so good.
It is possible to change the settings of the receiver, that it won't take over the ipod-control, so i can operate my ipod the "normal way" via scrollwheel/ ipod-menu and so on...
While i was playing a song, i accidently pushed the center button and the ipod started to read out the current song and faded out the song itself just a little. While reading out I got a crackling interference like a bad tuned radio station, which stopped after the ipod had finished reading out the song.
I tried the whole thing again, this time I paused the song and pushed the center-button for voice over. The ipod red out the current song with any interference...
I tried again, plugged in plugged out, restart and so on...you know the deal. :/ Nothing changed...
    What's going on here?
Receiver bad? ipod bad? Voice over is kinda crappy anyway, but is here something wrong with a chip or something?
The german apple support couldn't help either and told me that this behaviour is normal, 'cause the voice over "voices" are kinda bad.
    Summary:
Connected via USB to the receiver:
Crackling while playing a song and activating voice over...
No crackling while pausing playback and activating voice over...
No crackling while playing songs without using voice over...
Connected via 3,5 mm audio jack to any device/ earphones:
    No interference at all.
    greetings

Thx for helping me on this, i really appreciate that.
The "crackling problem" is gone, but i got another one.
I got a more or less loud "popping sound" when skipping tracks forward or backward, or when i manually select a track from a list and the ipod starts playing it.
At first i didn't really realize it via the headphones from apple, since they aren't very good but it's there, too.
But playing songs via my hifi-system i became pretty aware of that "initializing" like sound.
I resetted my ipod via the method told on the apple support page (Hold on/off -->Menu/Centerbutton) and updated it in iTunes again, but it didn't go away.
    Greetings
