Lousy sound quality from my Dynex 24" HDTV

I am thinking about taking this TV back because the sound quality of the\is TV is so scratchy!!  I've tried hooking up my computer speakers to the TV but the receptacle is the wrong size.  Are there converter plugs to accommodate these wires so I can use an inexpensive set of computer speakers to enhance the sound?

Unfortunately fb41445 you will have this issue with nearly any HDTV, but with some added surround sound this will be a problem of the past.
Please note that whatever I state in these forums is not a direct response from Best Buy or Geek Squad. My posts are just my own personal insights.

• Airplay sound quality from iPad

I am trying to use Airplay to stream music to a rather high end HiFi system from my iPad.
Using an new airport express optical out to a high-en DAC.
Sound quality when streaming from iMAC iTunes via airplay to the system just great
Sound quality when streaming same music from iPAD or iPhone via airplay rather poor as their is little dynamic etc. almost as if bit rate is very low or so. Wifi signal is strong no drop outs
Any idea what I do wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I experience the same. I expect that it has something to do with the way Airplay works. There is iTunes Airplay and there is System Airplay. You get more or less the same result when you only use Airplay in iTunes on your iMac and keep the system setting on internal speakers (by alt-clicking the speaker icon in the menu-bar).

• Sound Quality from usb connector bad

serial connection/usb connection does not give good sound quality although connections through headphone jack is perfect.  How can this be fixed?

Am i understanding your problem correctly, it sounds (haha! No pun intended!) like the earphones are not able to handle the highs & lows of these songs and basically you're overloading them causing the crackling noise.
Are you using the earphones/buds that came with your iPod? If so, that could be why the song sounds good on your external speakers, but not through your earbuds.
Hope that helps

• Sound quality from iTunes Store downloads

Hi Mac Mavens,
I'm a pretty discerning listener and I'm wondering about the quality of the sound from iTunes Store downloads vis-a-vis a CD. If you play them side by side through a very good sound system would you be able to hear the difference? Any audiophiles out there who have made the comparison? What's your verdict?
Thanks one and all,
CZ1957

I, for one, can hear the difference between 256 Kbit AAC and uncompressed AIFF over my Imac's tiny speakers. Over a good sound system, the difference is not subtle.
Compressed audio is inferior to the original, and there's very little argument about that. It's my understanding that most people can hear the difference between lossy compression and uncompressed audio.
Upon hearing it, however, some people can live with the difference, while others can't.
There are two very good reasons why you might wish obtain your audio on physical CD's: 1) if you care about the artistic intent of the musician and you want to hear everything they created, that's only available on CD, and 2) you might not wish to be overcharged for an inferior product. The "iTunes Plus" compression throws away about 80% of the information in the original audio, yet the cost is about the same as a physical CD. Why anyone pays $10 for one fifth of the data on a CD, when all the data is available for about the same price, is beyond me.

• Different sound quality from back and front panels

I posted https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112384.0
but no one answered
Well, I have another related problem and a question:
1. Why does sound differ if I plug my headphones into the back panel jack from that I get from my front panel jack?
2. Is this by design?
3. Can I change it (make sound from front like that from the rear)? How?
4. Is this influenced by Windows Sound settings (speakers > advanced > headphones or speakers)? Could you please give more info on these settings (I could not find that anywhere!)
The major problem is that my phones sound too twittery, almost no bass, whereas the speakers plugged into the rear jack are OK. Please help!
My Windows is not English, so some names may be incorrect, sorry
I have WinXP Pro, MSI P965 Neo-F, Realtek ALC883
I tried Technics RP-F500 and AKG K-44 headphones, they both sound alike
I mostly listen to mp3s

hmm.. I do not aware of this, is this very significant?
I think you should check with MSI. goto MSI support site and post your problem.
By the way, don't forget to read the moan guide, the link is in my signature.

• Loss of sound quality from viewer to sequence

Hi, I'm currently putting a track into a piece and when I play it in the viewer as a preview the sound is perfect yet when I insert it into the sequence there's a muffled ticking sound in the background.
The audio track has been rendered...any idea what I could do to resolve this?

in the preview then it plays fine, but as soon as I drop it into the sequence there's this ticking sound. I can't work out why it is.
Why? Because the Viewer show things (images AND sound) in their native format. But once you place it the Sequence, it has to conform to the Sequence settings. Since FCE's setting doesn't work with MP3, you hear the ticking (or other noise).
The fix? Always convert any media to match the Sequence settings PRIOR to importing it into your FCE project.

• Sound quality of mp3's via apple tv?

Just wondering what it is like. At the moment i stream itunes to my PS3 which sounds great upscaled through my Onkyo 875 amp. Will i get the same kind of sound quality from Apple tv?

AppleTV audio via optical sounds superb through my ageing Yamaha Processor into the main hi-fi.
For audio MP3 etc gets converted to a PCM bitstream by AppleTV for digital out to be handled by the amp.
If connecting via HDMI theer should be little difference.
AppleTV will not upsample audio, from memory my PS3 can do this, but frankly you're not gaining new information just interpolating. Does the Onkyo upsample?

• IPod Mini Sound Quality

I have just bought a new 4gb ipod Mini from the Apple Store and would like to register my immense disappointment at the sound quality from the ipod. when playing songs back there is a noticeable distortion when using the EQ setting and to e lesser extent without the EQ setting. It's like listening to a cassette walkman with the asociated hiss. I have noticed other posts on this subject, SURELY this should be fixed by Apple. I now intend to return the ipod to Apple. Does the shuffle also suffer this problem?

I also noticed this problem on the iPod Mini. I have the second generation iPod Mini and it's great. It does, however has two flaws:
1. Noticeable distortion when playing certain music.
2. Not being able to utilitze your own custom EQ settings.
AS for solving the first problem above, with some experimentation, I've noticed that you can eliminate distortion by adjusting the volume levels for each individual file. It's done by right-clicking the file you want to adjust and choosing Get Info. On the one of the tabs, there's an adjustment for volume levels and EQ settings. Simply move the slider down and that should eliminate the problem. But the best way to handle this is to convert the file out to a WAV file and use a WAV editor to adjust the volume level. Then when you import and convert the file, that should eliminate the problem. As for the second one, I hope that there can be a way to import your own custom EQ settings in iTunes to the iPod. I find this my major qualm. The preset EQ settings are good, but they are no subsitute to being able to adjust the sound how YOU want it. I hope Apple will answer the cries for being able to import your EQ setting from iTunes to the iPod. All it would take is some programming and that should do it. Maybe on the next release of iTunes and the iPod updater? I hope so!!

• N96 to n86 headphone sound quality

Hi,
Im upgrading from my n96 to a n86 and would like to know about the headphone quality from the n86 as the sound quality from my n96 i thought was exellent. I use the phones music player everyday around 2 hours on my daily commute so this is a major feature for me.
Thanks

Try reset all settings
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

• Music quality from MBP is so rich compared to iPod (through ear phones)

Why is it that when I use the same ear phones to listen to music, same song, same everything, the sound quality from the computer is so much richer than iPod? I mean the EQ is all off too...

Coming from the PC world, I know that different sound cards produce different qualities of sound. I also know for sure in windows (not so sure on mac) that some applications will play sound better than others. I would hope that all iPods incorporate the best of the best audio decoders to provide the fullest/richest sounds, but its possible that the macbook (using core audio perhaps?) is able to provide an even better audio quality than an iPod.

• Sound quality  MP3 - AAC

I'm converting playlists into MP3 format so that I can mix songs in "Audacity". The finished product is in MP3 format. I want to burn them on to CD in AAC format which I understand has slightly better quality. Is that true and is there a way to do it? I want the songs to be in the same quality there were in on the original commercial CD recordings. Thanks

By converting into MP3 or any other "lossy" compression format ("lossy" means that data is thrown away during the compression process), you've already eliminated the possibility of having the quality be the same as on the original CD. So there would be no point in then converting the MP3 tracks to AAC. If you want to maintain the original sound quality from the CDs, you need to import your CDs using WAV or another uncompressed format instead, and then edit those and burn them back out to CD.

• Wanting sound quality closer to HD caliber. Using gigaworks. Just bought a vid card with hdmi audio

I just got a GTX 560 TI, and my dilemma arose after installing this card and then trying out the HDMI audio, and being amazed at the sound quality I am NOT getting by simply using my sound card. Here are some of my specs which are relevant. I have the said video card, a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer, a Samsung 40" LCD I use as a monitor, and an Asus P5N motherboard. Also, I am using Creative Gigaworks 7.1 750s speakers. I'm running a mini-hdmi to hdmi cable from my card to TV. Basically I am hearing sound quality from my TV that is absolutely superior to anything that has come out of my speakers and am now wanting to achieve better sound quality for my speakers, but how? Should I get a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty? New speakers is definitely not what I am looking for right now, and besides that, they are a very powerful set of 7.1's that you just can't find anymore. I know there are HDMI sound cards, but I doubt I would be able to plug my speakers into those. Is there better software I can download to go along with my sound card? I've updated PowerDVD on the off-chance that it would help (even though I knew it wouldn't). I'm really not sure how much help getting a fatal1ty sound card would be. Any suggestions on how to get my PC speakers running up to or NEAR to HD quality?

$200 at all? So no new sound card? Or 200 for receiver only? So following setups are possible using a receiver:
- Use SB, Receiver: so you connect from SB analog to Receiver and from their analog to Speakers, use HDMI/DVI for video seperately. IMHO Bad as it uses much analog points and would have bad sound quality. As long as you don't buy a quality SB, real good analog cables, good receiver. And so we speek over 1000$
- Use GPU and Receiver directly via HDMI. Then Analog to Speakers and HDMI/DVI to TV. No real extra SB needed, but be aware that if you got an nvidia card it may be you need to connect the sound via SPDIF - check: . But as SPDIF only provides 1,5Mbit/s (6Mbit/s in rare cases) and formats like Dolby True HD/Digital Plus, DTS HD Master need 18-25 Mbit/s you won't get highest quality possible as software downsamples quality. But i think anyway these formats are not supported by GPU, thats why 3rd solution exists
- As written above use GPU to SB via HDMI, SB to Receiver via HDMI, Receiver to Speakers via Analog. Most expensive as you need new SB and Receiver but thats the way they want high end sound being provided.
Keep in mind that on 2nd and 3rd solution the receiver must have HDMI I/O! Also check HDMI Version! 1.3/1.4? 7.1 is not nessacary (as your speakers can do 5.1 to 7.1 upmix ) but you buy a receiver normally just once and so i would recommend to get that too. If you want a good one LipSync, Deep Color, x.v.Color should be onboard too.
So on the second part - why do you think you have to buy new cables and sub? And did i get you right - you want to directly connect the speakers with receiver? No, you have to connect to a sub. Well, if you want the receiver to do the upmix you need the seperate available 4x Stereo or RCA cables as i don't think an receiver will provide 7.1 via the supplied 4x to 3x 7.1 Audio cable.

• Sound quality degredation, please help!!!

i have a new video ipod, I also have a fm transmitter for my car. recently the sound quality coming out of my ipod has gone downhill. At first I thought that maybe one of my speakers in the car was blown but I played a cd in my cd player and it sounded fine. I'm not sure what to do about this to fix it, please help!!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The sound quality from FM Transmitters is not always great.
You might want to switch frequencies and see if that helps. There might also be a problem with your FM Transmitter, or it might need new batteries, if it uses them.
You cannot compare a CD to the FM Transmitter as the CD is connected directly to the car and is not wireless (so doesn't get interference).
If your iPod sounds fine with headphones, then something is up with the transmitter, the frequency, etc.
