Love bestbuy, hate their credit card with Citibank

On March 25, 2014 around 4:00 PM I went to a Best Buy store in Virginia to purchase a new LG washer and dryer. The employee who helped me compare washers was very knowledgeable and helped me make a great purchase. I decided I wanted to use Best Buy’s financing to get the 18 months interest free. I was immediately approved for $6,000 and he processed my payment. He got a pop up on the screen saying that he needed to call Citibank and that’s when it all went downhill and turned my great shopping experience into a less then desirable experience.
The lady at Citibank needed to verify that I was in fact Me, once he handed me the phone she asked me my name and social and put me on hold for four minutes to pull her information. Once she came back to the phone she explained that she had to ask me some questions to identify me. Her first and ONLY question that I was asked was “Your birthday is in September please answer which one applies: Your astrology sign is A.) Virgo B.) Gemini C.) Cancer” I was extremely surprised to be asked such an asinine question and quickly responded with “I do not follow astrology at all I do not have any idea what my sign is” At this point the Best Buy employee could tell I was extremely upset and took the phone from me. He told her we would talk to someone else to fix this and hung up. She then Locked my account and marked it as fraud.
the Best Buy employee tried to call around to get a supervisor at Citibank and no one was willing to get a higher up. He decided to process the payment again and this time is miraculously worked. I got my receipt and thanked Him assuring him I have no issues with him and his service, he did a stupendous job.
Once, I left I received the fifth call on my cell from number {edited per forum guidelines}, I answered and it was the lady from Citibank. I explained my frustration about being asked my sign and how I didn’t know anything about that stuff, she explained how it is computer generated, I countered with that is fine I understand your doing your job but what happened to asking about where I lived 5 years ago, or what credit cards I have, or any other information off my credit report that actual deal with me and my life. ANYONE who has any insight into astrology could have answered with virgo and been identified as me. I told her that it actually went through at Best Buy and we are done talking.
When I got home to tell my parents about what happened my dad told me that Citibank lady call my home phone (Which I NEVER gave her) and asked for me. My dad told her that I no longer live at that residence and she replied with “I am with Citibank and I am calling about her recent purchase and credit card with Best Buy.” This is where my anger escalates. I work in the banking industry I know all about Bank Privacy Laws and I can’t tell you how many were broken with that one sentence. She was told that I do not live there- She had NO idea who she was speaking with- She had no right to tell a stranger where I was - She had no right to tell him I was applying for a credit card.
Sadly I was able to move past the stupid astrology question and locking my account however I am not able to get past breaking the simplest banking privacy laws. I love Best Buy and my husband and I spend a lot of money there but we will NEVER again use Best Buy credit card through Citibank. I would urge you to look into who you do business with and what customer information is being put out there illegally through your affiliate citibank.

Hello Lindseyled,
Welcome to the forum! I’m glad to hear your experience with our associate while purchasing your LG washer and dryer was splendid. Although I wish you could say the same for your interaction with the Citibank associate. I can honestly say I’ve never been asked my astrological sign to verify my identity, and it seems quite peculiar that you would have been asked to verify yours.
It’s extremely concerning if Citibank provided any private information to your father. Although we are completely separate entities, as Citibank is the company that manages our credit cards, I greatly appreciate you sharing your experience and feedback surrounding your credit card application and your purchase.
If you haven’t already, I would highly suggest reaching out to Citibank in regards to this issue personally. I of course will be making sure the experience you have transcribed is thoroughly noted on our end and forwarded on for review by the appropriate personnel. It’s discouraging to hear that you will be withholding from using your new Best Buy credit card due to this experience, and I am truly sorry for any displeasure this experience may have caused you. If you should need any further assistance, please feel welcome to reach out to me!
Respectfully,

Each time that you add or change your credit card details on your iTunes account a small temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - it should disappear off your account within a few days or so.

Unfortunately, this is a problem that is driven by the DRM Dictatorship.  Despite the proliferation of mobile devices and the fact that there are many of us who do a lot of international travel, content providers don't want you to have access to their products outside of your homeland.  The Balkanized mentality of the DRM Dictatorship is way out of touch with the modern world.
At least Apple, to its credit, allows you to use your accounts outside of your homeland as long as you have the proper credentials for them.  Most other services use the more Draconian geolocation filtering which does require you to be physically present in your homeland.  For the most part, you are not allowed to leave home if you want access to your favorite entertainment!

  • How can i pay on the apple store online with two credit cards, with two different billing addresses

I will be greatful if you could answer me this question...
How can i pay on the apple store online with two credit cards, with two different billing addresses?
I know that you can use two credit cards to pay an item but the problem is that i can only put the billing address of just one of the credit cards, and since the two cards are from different people (my parents) i can't do it. They live in the same place so i don't know if i should just put one of the billing address.
    Thank you.
PS. I don't know if this is the right community to ask this, sorry if i'm wrong.

On the Apple Store "Payment & Pricing" page it states:
Using more than one payment card
You can also combine payment methods to pay for your purchase. Choose from the following combinations of credit cards and Apple Gift Cards:
Credit card(s) - up to two
Apple Gift Card(s) - up to eight
Apple Gift Card(s) + one credit card
During checkout, if you are paying with a gift card issued by a credit card company, you can combine it with one credit card.

  • ITUNES APP STORE WITHOUT A CREDIT CARD WITH EXISTING APPLE ID

    Hey,
I've been trying to create a free itunes app store account. First I read the instructions in this link : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534, but the link shows how to create a new account, the problem is that I already have a Apple ID.
On the other hand when I try to sign in in the app store with my existing Apple ID, I get the message "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store please review your account information" with two options "cancel" and "review".
Clicking in review, I go to the page with the terms of service, continuing I go to a page where I have to type my email, my password, question and answer for the password and my birth date. The email field has the email that is being used with my current Apple ID, and the password field has the password of my existing Apple ID. The other fields are blank. Completing them, and clicking in next I go to the payment options page, but there's no "none" option, so I can't make a account withou using a credit card.
Is there a way to create a itunes app store without a credit card with my existing apple ID, or a I have to create a new one ?

    few days already..
    it seems like a bug..
actually i can use another email to log on..
but i want my all things to be consistent

  • HT1689 I want to purchase an app from the US iTunes store using my credit card with billing address inIndia

    Hi,
I want to download an app which is unfortunately not available on the Indian iTunes app store. I have an internationally valid credit card with my billing address in India. I tried to change my store settings to see if I could log into the US iTunes store, but since all my credit cards are registered on my address in India, I am unable to log into the US store.
Can somebody please help me in this regard?

You cannot. To open an account on a different iTunes country you must have a valid credit card issued from a bank in that country. You must have a billing address in that country, as well.
There are reasons why some apps are not available in all iTunes stores.

  • HT2736 Does one need to have an iTunes Account (connected to their credit card) in order redeem gifted application?

I need to find out if I can send multiple apps in the form of gifts to people who do not have itunes accounts(connected to their credit cards).
    Is that possibile?
My goal would be to be able to send an app to someone who can then either right on their ipad or though itunes download the app without entering any credit card information or having to login to itunes.
    thanks

  • Can i buy developer id using my wife credit card with her permission

can i buy developer id using my wife credit card with her permission?

When you enter the Developer program, you have to leave the internet in a sense. You are entering a business relationship with Apple. That is why developers have to submit personal information and cannot act anonymously unless they have a legal right to do so (via a corporation). You wouldn't want to put a successful app at risk by violating the Apple Developer terms of use which clearly state, "The Apple ID and password you use to login as a Registered Apple Developer cannot be shared in any way or with any one."
Furthermore, choosing to develops apps under a female name is, unfortunately, going to attract attention to begin with. It shouldn't matter, but it does.

Anyone else had their credit card details hacked from iTunes today?
My bank contacted me to check on unusual purchases following my iTunes purchases this morning. I have never had my credit card details hacked before and I do a lot of purchases online. Following me giving iTunes my credit card details someone made a purchase to Air Egypt and UAE. Fortunately my bank contacted me before more purchases were made.
I won't be giving my new credit card details to iTunes

Contact your Credit Card company immediately. They'll explain the charge or reverse it.

  • Comprehensive Guide to Marriott/Ritz Carlton Rewards (and Their Credit Cards)

Alrighty, so I actually feel somewhat educated in this field...so it's getting a guide   Firstly, let's talk about the Marriott Family of hotels and what to expect    Marriott rewards is a rewards program that encompasses 19 brands of hotels, we'll break them up into categories - Full Service Hotels,Luxury Hotels, Select Service Hotels, Extended Stay Hotels, Timeshare/Villa properties, and earning only hotels (which means you can't REDEEM points for a stay there)  Full ServiceJW Marriott - JWMarriott Rennaissance - RenAutograph CollectionProtea Fire & IceDelta HotelsLuxury HotelsRitz Carlton - RCEdition - EditionGaylord HotelsProtea - African PrideSelect Service HotelsSpringhill Suites - SHSFairfield Inn and Suites - FFICourtyard - CYAC Hotels - ACMoxy - MoxyProtea Extended Stay HotelsResidence Inn - RITowneplace Suites - TPS Timeshare/Villa PropertiesMarriott Vacation Club - MVCEarning Only HotelsMarriott Executive Apartments - MEAExecuStay - ES I know there is more than 19 brands listed there, but 3 of them (Protea, African Pride, and Protea Fire and Ice) are all just different brands within the same family.  What do these classifications mean? Full service hotels are exactly what they sound like. They offer more in the way of amenities. They may have a club level, one or more restauraunts, nicer toiletries, turndown service, and so on.  Luxury hotels are pretty self explanatory. These are going to be your (most likely) most expensive hotels here. JW Marriott could fall into this category, but it depends on the hotel, and your opinion. These are the hotels that are going to provide the best of the best in terms or service quality, amenity quality, (hopefully) room quality, but you will pay for this.  Select Service Hotels give you a room, they may or may not have a restaurant, this is going to be your standard hotel, with no real frills.  Extended stay hotels include a kitchen, and offer studio rooms, and one or two bedroom suites. These are meant for extended stays, and there's a downside to staying at them (which we'll get into later). Residence inn is a more upscale hotel, TownePlace Suites is more of a mid tier hotel, but they did just revamp their breakfast offerings.  Marriott Vacation Club resorts are timeshare properties, but you are able to book a stay there just like any other hotel. These will usually be 2 or 3 bedroom villas, with a full kitchen, and a LARGE resort property.  Marriott Executive Apartments and ExecuStay are EARNING ONLY partner hotels, you cannot redeem points here, and like the previous category they're usually used for extended stays, but for business travelers as opposed to families.       Marriott Rewards Program Marriott rewards offers 6 membership levels, with different benefits, and you can choose to either earn marriott points, or airline miles (38 partner airline programs).  Basic MemberFree Wifi at (almost) every marriott hotel5th night free on all award stays Silver Elite - 10 Qualifying Nights20% bonus pointsLate CheckoutWeekend DiscountsElite only OffersGold Elite - 50 Qualifying NightsGuaranteed lounge access/breakfast for members and one guest (excludes resorts, and RC)Room Upgrades - (Excludes Suites and Club Level at RC)Free "Enhanced" WifiGuaranteed Room TypeHertz #1 Gold MembershipFree local phone calls and faxes, discounted long distance phone calls25% bonus on pointsPlatinum Elite Status - 75 Qualifying Nights48 hour guaranteed availability for hotel roomsComplimentary United MileagePlus Silver StatusPlatinum Arrival Gift50% bonus on pointsPlatinum Premier Elite Status - ???? You only need 10 to qualify for silver, 35 nights will rollover and you will start 2016 with 35 nights. If you only stay 10 nights and end the year with 45 nights again, these nights will NOT rollover again. You will start 2016 with 0 nights (unless you have a marriott credit card)  ALL elite qualifying nights (nights stayed, credit card nights, rollover nights) count towards lifetime status  Now In marriott rewards you can choose to earn either points and miles, but earnings differ based on hotel brand.  You earn 10 base points, or 2 miles per dollar on ALL qualifying charges at (room service, hotel restaurant, spa services, and so on)JWAutograph CollectionMarriottRennaissanceMVCYou earn 10 base points, or 2 miles per dollar on room rate ONLY atSHSFFIProteaCYMoxyACGaylordRC You will earn 5 base points or 1 miles per dollar on room rate ONLY atRITPSYou will earn 2.5 points or 1 mile per dollar on MEA (Room Rate Only)ES (All Qualifying Charges) NOTICE: - Delta Is NOT on the earning chart. As of right now you CANNOT earn points at Delta Hotels - ELITE BONUSES COUNT FOR POINTS ONLY, YOU WILL NOT EARN ELITE BONUSES ON MILES    Spending Your Points   There are 9 categories, and 5 tiers of hotels, representing a point cost per night. ALL members get their 5th consecutive night (spent at the same hotel) for free. Most hotels use the "Category" system, ONLY RC, and Edition use the Tier system. Category 1 - 7,500Category 2 - 10,000Category 3 - 15,000Category 4 - 20,000Category 5 - 25,000Category 6 - 30,000Category 7 - 35,000Category 8 - 40,000Category 9 - 45,000Tier 1 - 30,000Tier 2 - 40,000Tier 3 - 50,000Tier 4 - 60,000Tier 5 - 70,000   That is the basics of the marriott rewards program...the ritz carlton rewards program is the SAME program, with a different name. You can only belong to one of them, and you can switch your "allegiance" at any time you choose by simply calling up customer service. The only difference is bonus opportunities.    Onto the Credit Cards There are 4 credit cards associated with this rewards program Marriott Rewards Credit CardMarriott Rewards Premier Marriott Rewards Business PremierRitz Carlton Rewards Card  The standard marriott rewards credit$49 AF, waived first year10 elite qualifying nights (these are not FREE nights for you to stay, they are nights towards elite status - This will get you silver status) 3 points per dollar on marriott hotels 1 point per dollar on all other purchases1 Elite night credit for every $3,000 spent on the cardMarriott Rewards Premier Card$85 annual fee, waived first year15 elite qualifying nights (10 for silver status, 5 extra to get you towards the next level)1 free category 1-4 certificate on account approval, and one free category 1-5 certificate on each following cardmember anniversary5 points per dollar spent at all marriott properties2 points per dollar spent on airfare, rental cars, and restaurants1 point per dollar spent elsewhere1 elite night credit for every $3,000 in card spendMarriott Rewards Premier Card (Business)$99 annual fee, waived first year15 elite qualifying nights (10 for silver status, 5 extra to get you towards the next level)1 free category 1-4 certificate on account approval, and one free category 1-5 certificate on each following cardmember anniversary5 points per dollar spent at all marriott properties2 points per dollar spent on airfare, rental cars, and restaurants, office supply stores, internet service, cable service, phone service1 point per dollar spent elsewhere1 elite night credit for every $3,000 in card spend Ritz Carlton Rewards Card$395 annual feeAutomatic Marriott Gold Elite Status for your first year (and maintained each year after that with $10,000 spent on the card) Ability to earn platinum elite status ($75,000 in card spend/yearly)$300 Airline Incidental Credit (airline lounge day pass, or towards a yearly lounge membership of your choice; airline seat upgrades; airline baggage fees; in-flight internet/entertainment; in-flight meals; Global Entry fees)$100 Hotel Credit on paid stays of 2+ nights (RC hotels ONLY, must use Z34 booking code (online) or book over the phone)3 Certificates for upgrade to club level on a paid stay of up to 7 nights (RC hotels Only, must pay a certain rate, must be booked over the phone )LoungeClub membership (Also free for authorized users)5 points per dollar spent at marriott2 points per dollar spent on airfare, rental cars and restaurants1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases10% yearly bonus on ALL points earned through card spend   The basic marriott card is pretty much useless in my opinion. For a few more bucks a year you get a free night every year.  The premier card (personal and business), to me, is a keeper for the free annual night. You'll rarely find a hotel for cheaper than $85, and silver status (though it doesn't give much) certainly helps with the 20% bonus points. This also allows you to take a gold elite status challenge (if you are a basic member you can only take a silver challenge) which will give you a fast track to gold status. Like all hotel cards that offer a free annual night (Marriott, Hyatt, IHG...) I think this card is a no brainer if you travel at all.  The Ritz Carlton card holds TREMENDOUS value for it's automatic gold status, and benefits at ritz carlton. Even if you NEVER step foot in a ritz carlton hotel, if you stay at marriott often (but not often enough to achieve gold status), the free breakfast alone can be worth up to $50/day, and lounge access can be invaluable. Free food almost all day long, some lounges have free alcohol all day long. The ritz carlton club level upgrades can easily be worth $1000 (or more) each if used correctly, and the $100 hotel credit is worth $100 Though you may have trouble using the $300 airline credit for gift cards, it still has its' uses.     I've left a lot out, I'll be editing this over time, but it's here if you need it Hope it helps some people a little bit, I know it's unorganized.  Feel free to reply with anything you think I missed or if you have any questions =]

  • With iOS 8's family sharing, will family members be able to share apps that they previously purchased with different credit cards with one another for free (given that they will all use the same credit card once iOS 8 comes out)?

Question 1: In my family of 4, we currently have different Apple ID's and we all use different credit cards to purchase our apps and media. When iOS 8 is released, if we agree to share the same credit card, will we be able to access apps that a family member purchased with their own credit card prior to iOS 8's release? To clarify, under iOS 7, Member 1 has purchased Apps A and B with his credit card. Under iOS 8, if Members 1, 2, 3, 4 decide to use Member 4's credit card, will Members 2, 3, 4 be able to access Apps A and B?
Question 2: If we all decide to use the same credit card now, once iOS 8 is released, will family members have access to the apps/media purchased by the fourth family member?

You can read everything that is known about ios 8 on Apples website.
There is no way for anyone to know any more than that.
