Love my new Mac Book Pro ! But  ???

I've been using IBM and Microsoft Operating systems since 1981.  I can't stand what Microsoft has done with trying to make a one size fits all operating system in Windows 8 so I finally bought a MacBook Pro!
Most application installations and device integration is super easy.  But there has been a couple of quirks.
1. The delete key on the keyboard is really the backspace key on an IBM style keyboard.  A true "Delete" key which deletes from the right of the cursor does not exist!  Come on Apple!  Get with the program if you want to lure more users away from MS based PC's!
2.  System Preferences is not as informative or useful as Control Panel in Windows. I find myself looking for things that simply don't exist or are in places you don't expect to find them.  What's up with that?
3.  Retina display is great but Apple needs to increase the font size offerrings for the 50+ folks! I have a custom setting on 200% and it is just about right with my current vision.  If my vision degrades I'll but sh_t out of luck or need to reduce resolution to get larger text!  That's bad,  BOOOOO!!!
4. Printer drivers for most Business Machines are hard to find and not as useful as those in Windows.  I cannot use the scanner on my office Kyocera MFP machine!
5. Infortunately I run many business applications for remote control of Laboratory Equipment.  Most all the Laboratory equipment vendors only offer GUI programs in Windows only.  I was advised by my IT Engineer to use WMware Fusion instead of parallels.  The windows in MAC experience has gotten me real fustrated.  Cursors are locked out of OS X and become unsyncronized!  I'm trying to acess the MAc Superdrive DVD from Windows.  OSX asks me wether I want to use the drive in OS X or WIndows.  I replied in Windows and it doesn't work!  I inplug and re-plug in the USB for the drive and install the drive in OS X and it works in Windows!?????!
What's up with that!  Get it right man!!
Besides the several fustrations, I love the machine!  It's sleek light weight, not vent holes ornoisey fans and it very light weight compared to the clunky Dell I used to lug around!  I hope Apple listens to customers like me to develop better nextgen products and listen to users!
Good Job & make it Better!!!!

Once you have successfully done that you can go ahead and choose Erase and Sync when you plug your iPod in.

There is a US$10 adapter from old power adapter to new MacBook Pro.

I have transferres Adobe programs from my old Mac Book to my new Mac Book Pro, but I can´t open the programs!?

Adobe programs don't do well with migration. You should uninstall them, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3), and reinstall from the original installers, but you also need to be aware that many older programs are not supported on newer versions of OSX so this may not go smoothly.

  • I want to by a new Mac Book Pro, but I still use Creative Suite CS6. Is it still working?

I want to by a new Mac Book pro with Yosemite, but I still use Creative Suite CS6 and I don´t want to update it to CC. So it is very important for me to know if CS6 is working on Yoemite. I rode that After Effects and Photoshop are fine, but what is with Indesign CS6, Illutrator CS6 and all the other Programms. Please let me know if it is possible?
    Thanks

CS6 apps are supported on Yosemite, but if you buy a retina display model you will not be happy with some of the apps such as InDesign which are not optimized for that display.

  • I have a new mac book pro but cant find a user manual?

I have a new mac book pro and cant find a user manual?

being a windows user I too looked for a book as I had pretty much all large OS changes like XP to w7Pro.... so barnes and noble has what I found to be an excellent book after looking through many at bookstore...
"OS X Mavericks The Missing Manual" which covers OS X 10.9.1 first edition was dec 2013 so recent book 850 plus pages of info and pictures very easy read and the views make it simple to follow.
Me I like technical info but this book is for everyone with sections on just about every topic the OS has.
I do believe I paid like $35 (US) but well worth it as I hadn't touched an Apple since 1988 with truly floppy discs we used to punch nothces in.
Author is a N. Y. Times writer who wrote many a "Missing Manual" as I can't remember the last time anything came with a manual. I had a $4600. windows machine built by Puget Systems and others over the years from Falcon Northwest.... none came with manuals other than similar to Apples quick info foldout.
    Good luck

  • HT4889 I just complete a migration from my Mac Book Pro to my new Mac Book Pro but none of the files on my desktop appear anywhere. Suggestions please.

I have just completed a lengthy migration of all  my files from an old Mac Book Pro to my new Mac Book Pro and I find that none of my files on my desktop have been transferred. So, I do not have the confidence that all my files have been transferred. What did I do wrong and what can I do to fix this matter. Sugggestions welcome. Thanks

Open the Users folder, drag the migrated home folder to the desktop, provide your administrator password, and retrieve the files from there. If desired, you can then use the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences to delete the migrated account. This can be done in reverse if you only want the migrated account.

  • Use old program on a new mac book pro?

I have transferred Adobe programs from my old mac book to my new mac book pro, but I can´t open the programs?

    Henriette,
Unless you transfer the entire contents of the old mac book, as in using what is (elsewhere) know as an Image of the entire harddisk from the old one, I am afraid you will have to get rid of everything (whichever way that is possible) and install everything from scratch just as you would without the old one.

  • Trying to install Deskjet 3054A wireless printing with brand new Mac Book Pro

    Hello,
I am trying to set up the wireless printing function on the Deskjet 3054A with a new Mac Book Pro, but not having any luck. When I connect via the USB the printer shows up, but once disconnected there is no communication. I tried to get the updated driver on the HP site, but nothing ever downloaded and it kept taking me to the setup page.
Is this All-In-One compatible with the new Mac OS 10.10 for wireless printing?
    Thank
    Scott

    Hello Sabuff,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some connectivity issues to you Mac 10.10.
Just so you are aware, the printer does not have a full feature software and driver package available for the Mac 10.10 operating system.
You can however try the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Please feel free to write me back with any other questions or concerns.

  • Unresponsive keys on new mac book pro

    Hi everyone
I've just purchased a new mac book pro but am finding some keys are unresponsive (especially the 'd' key) which means when I am speed typing I often have to go back and re press the key several times before the letter comes up.
Is this a known issue with mac book pro's? Do I need to take it to an apple dealer to be checked?
Thanks in advance for any advice

It's not a known issue, return it immediately to your dealer for replacement or you can use your warranty and have it repaired.

  • I have a new mac book pro which i use in england but I need to use German charachters frequently, is there a way of having both visable on the keyboard?

I have a new mac book pro which i use in england but I need to use German charachters frequently, is there a way of having both visable on the keyboard?
For example so that I can just press shift or another key to get the German character.

Some may already exist, but you will have to learn them.  On my old system these can be found through keyviewer.app  For example, if I press option+s I get ß   Umlaut is a bit cumbersome as option+u then the actual letter.  It may be possible to bind a key to do this function, possibly through System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts
I have old, old references for utilities that let you rebind keys to other functions, and you would have to see if they have modern equivalents.
Ukelele Mac OS X Keyboard Layout Editor - http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&id=ukelele - mostly useful for character, not function mapping.

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update"  It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

It won't show up on your Apple TV until it is fully downloaded into iTunes on your computer, have you done this.

  • TS3694 Just took my 1st gen iPod out of it's original box, never used before.  Plugged it into my new Mac book Pro and it recognizes that the iPod is in recovery mode but when I click to restore, error 1611 comes up - but that error code doesn't say what

I had an 8GB 1st gen iPod in it's original box in storage and just took it out to hook it up.  Charged it overnight, plugged it into new Mac Book Pro and it was recognized as being an iPod in recovery but other identifying information was all indicated as "n/a" (so, unknown OS, etc).  Error code 1604 came up so I downloaded iTunes on the Mac Book and it is currently showing version 10.  But now when I try to restore the iPod, error code 1611 comes up and the troubleshooting doesn't tell me what else to try.  The USB connector that came with the iPod was also never used before - brand new also from the box so that should be fine.  I also tried a different USB port on the Mac Book.  Any ideas?

    Error 1611
This error typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, this error may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

TVs don't support "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", so you will probably have to use FAT32. To format the external drive, follow the same steps as you did to format it with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but in the erasing screen, select "MS-DOS (FAT)" as "Format". Note that FAT32 isn't compatible with files bigger than 4 GB. Also, you may have to format the external drive in a PC
