  • New VCR/DVD player that connects to antenna input

Sorry! I guess I should clarify this. We have a "screw in" coaxial cable that runs from our antenna into the house. As our TV is newer we don't have a "screw in" coaxial input (only AV cable inputs) so we have to run it through the dvd/vcr players. However, our current player no longer works for anything other than this (doesn't play DVD/VHS anymore) so it is basically like a giant paperweight.  We are looking at replacing this unit, but need the new one to have the screw in option (or be able to purchase another device that has the screw in coaxial option). Otherwise we do not have access to any television channels. Unfortunately I don't know what to look for in either a new player or an additional device. Thank you for your help with this!

I am very confused as to what I need to look for when buying a new VCR/DVD combo. (Yes, I still want to play tapes)   I need it to have a "screw" in connection for my roof top antenna's coaxial cable like the ones picture below. I have tried the plug in coaxials slots (with out the screw in option), and they don't work. But when you go to buy any device they just meniton that it has a coaxial slot. I have heard a lot of different information about what I need to get from an RF Modulator to a Tuner. When I looked at the RF Modulator it appeared to be letting you convert AV cables from a device (dvd player) to coaxial input (older tv model). Please help! • Used DVD Player

    Fustrated,
I have a used insignia DVD player and when I hooked it up to my big screen I have video but no sound
When I try to plug the audio in thet TV makes a loud humming sound. Does this mean that the audio side if the DVD player is not working. All other controls are working, but no sound
    Any help would be appreciated
    TF

Assuming since you specifically mentioned plugging in the audio, that you're just using standard RCA (red and white) cables for the audio?  Regular Insignia DVD players are a bit older, so it probably doesn't have HDMI capability.  If it's one of the newer Blu-ray models, I'd tell you to just use HDMI instead, though.
The easiest trouble-shooting methods to use are:
    1.  Make sure that the TV and DVD player are turned off when connecting and disconnecting them.
    2.  If you have another device that uses the same cables, hook that one up to see if you can get sound from it.
2a.  If you get sound from your other device(s), then the audio ports or other parts may be bad on the DVD player.
    3.  If you have multiples of the cables you are using to hook in the DVD player, try swapping out the cables.  Humming can often be the sign of a bad cable.
If all else fails, bring the player into one of our stores.  Generally, one of our Home Theater or Geek Squad agents will be happy to take a look at it and see if we can find out what might be wrong.

  • In DVD Player, What is Error -36 and how do I fix it?

I bought a new superdrive dvd player/burner (for DVD -R, -RW) and installed it in my Pismo. Reason I got it, I was having trouble viewing DVDs I'd compressed from a regular commercial DVD to 4.5GB DVD -Rs using the application DVD2oneX2. They play fine on my wife's 12" aluminum with original superdrive.
But I'm getting the same error I got with the previous drive. "DVD Player has encountered an insurmountable error--the disk may be scratched or dirty -36." It kind of hiccups, I get the message, and DVD Player closes. These are brand new DVD -R. Furthermore, when I reinsert the disk it will often play, starting from that very same start. Sometimes I have to reinsert it four or five times, but eventually it plays the part it balked at before.
I've just done a clean re-install on my hard drive, and repaired permissions (there was initially an error in -r, -rw permissions that is now corrected). But it's the same problem every time: the DVD runs for twenty minutes or so, then quits. And since this was the same with the previous drive, I'm thinking it's something in my Pismo--hopefully something fixable, as I mainly got the new drive so I could burn and watch series of lectures that I borrow from my university library (you can only keep them out for two days.)
One other problem: nobody carries DL DVD-Rs. Imation makes them, but nobody has them in stock.
Thanks for any help you can give,
    Giles

By itself, the question has nothing to do with
any Apple Support Community topic, so far.
Could you tell visitors some information about your Apple device, the OS (X?)
and the web browser version in use? Is the browser up-to-date? Have you
tried a different web browser to access the site, to see if that'd work? There
may be settings, certificates, or other details in your software, or on that site.
{Is your computer an older PowerPC G3/G4 or G5? This area concerns these
    models of older iMac build architecture; or so the general expectation goes...}

  • DVD player error

    I have a new 15" PowerBook.
The DVD player is not working.
I get the following message pop up:
    There was an initialization error
    Error: -43
Apple support say it is a software error and that I should wipe everything and reload.
I don't really want to go through all that and was just checking to see if anyone else had experienced this and maybe had a quick fix.

Im having problems with DVD player 4.6.5 on a Powerbook g4 1.5ghz 750 ram, os10.4.4
dvds start to play with a black screen and then freeze the whole system - even alt-apple-escape to force quit out of dvd player
    takes ages to respond
I went from os 10.3.3 to 10.4.0 (after a total disk erase, zeroed data) and did the update online straight after to 10.4.4
I also have 10.4.4 on a dual 450 g4 which I recently updated and it has none of the same problems
Im amazed that a solution to this is not easier to find on apples site - its obvious that it is happening to several people
    Has anyone found a solution???
Toast still seems to work fine so I think perhaps its something to do with the way the new os/dvd player decodes the video off the dvd - perhaps there is some incompatibility between hardware and software in this area?
I wonder from what version of DVD player this started happening - I had version 4.0 working fine when I was running os10.3.3
Does anyone know if quicktime is involved at all in the playing of dvds?? and if that might be causing a problem. I noticed a quicktime installer that goes a few versions backwards from 7.0.3 or 4 (never a good sign) but no explanation to say why on the download page
Powerbook g4 1.5ghz 750 ram (and while Im thinking of ram..... Im really annoyed at Apple for putting 2 x 256 ram chips in the powerbook g4. When I ordered a 512 ram chip along with the laptop I assumed it would take me up to 1gig but no - when I got the machine and opened it up I found out instead of apple putting one 512 chip inside that I would have to take one of the two 256 chips out in order to get the 512 one in!!!!! so I only got an extra 256meg for the price of 512 - and a 1gig chip costs 300euro!!! )

  • Using iTunes to create an MP3 CD that can be used on a DVD player

I recently attempted to create what I believed to be an MP3 CD from iTunes that my DVD player would be able to play. My DVD player was unable to read the CD (No Disc message). Come to find out that it creates the CD in a Mac format instead of an ISO 9660 format. Has anyone been able to create an MP3 CD from iTunes that a DVD player will load? If so what settings did you use?

The problem is solved. My new Sony DVD Player seems to handle whatever format my MP3 CD is created in even though the manual says nothing about a mac formatted CD. So I can now use iTunes or Toast to create MP3 CDs. My old JVC CD player is about 5 years old and even though the manual says it will read MP3 CDs and VCD CDs it never worked well on anything I created on a Mac

  • Best workflow for footage in 1440x1080 and vid rate 23.98fps going to a PAL DVD player in europe

I am new at this and still getting a grasp of the technical details.  I've made several trips to Germany over the last three years and each time have shot using different settings.  Right now I am editing the footage from the first year where I shot 1080i and 24p (Canon XHA1).  I've already sent some DVDs with films I edited from this trip, but not sure I've achieved the best result that I can in terms of image quality.  What i think i've been doing so far is to edit in the original NTSC, and then when i get ready to burn the DVD to send to my relatives in Germany, I have set the Project Info settings in iDVD to PAL.  But from reading the boards I am getting the sense that there are multiple ways to do this, each with varying results.  Obviously, I'd like to have my German viewers view a DVD with the best quality picture, and am wondering what is the best way to go about this.  I've also read on the boards that most PAL dvd players will play NTSC, which makes me wonder if burning the DVD with iDVD set to PAL is necessary.  I've already been told by one of my relatives who has viewed the same film here in america (burned as NTSC) and in Germany (one I sent burned as PAL), that the PAL versions did not have as good a picture quality.  Any suggestions?
Also, if you knew that your primary audience was going to be PAL viewers, and you are shooting with an NTSC camera, what would the ideal settings be?  On my canon xha1, my frame rate options are 60i, 30f, and 24f.  My 'comp out' options are 480i and 080i/480i.  My understanding is 1080i50 would be better for PAL, but 25fps is not an option on my camera.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well it must be 24 over 29.97 then because it is working with it.  I have been able to create timelines and export quicktime movies, etc.  The item properties (in FCE Browser) of the clips definitely say 23.98fps-- as I would expect because I know I had the camera set to 24p.  However, the frame rate of the sequences i've been editing on say 29.97.  This is without me having made any conscious effort to manipulate any settings for the sequences at the outset-- I didn't even know the sequences had settings for this when i started.  I just began dragging and dropping footage out of the browser and it must have automatically set the sequence to 29.97.  Who knows what I had the Easy Set up set to when i brought the footage over from my camera two years ago.  I knew even less then.  Are the settings on Easy Set up critical when bringing the footage onto your computer from your camera?  What processes are the Easy set up settings governing?
Even with all of that said, you would recommend burning the DVD as an NTSC?  An NTSC in a new PAL DVD player will look better than an NTSC burned as a PAL?  I suppose I could send them both versions and see which one looks better.
    Thanks for you help Tom.
    P.S.
On the true 24p issue, I did find this:
There are many posts out there about the Canon XH A1 not having "true 24p".
I think much of that misinformation out there maybe stemmed from (correct me if I'm wrong):
Canon Frame Mode on the standard DV cams was a "simulation: of the 24 frame look.
The Canon HDV 24p actually records each single frame progressively, but using an interlaced method.

  • UDMA problem with DVD player

    Hello,
I have a problem with my new MSI DVD player(model MS-8216M) :it will not work in UDMA mode 2 as it is supposed to in any normal, acceptable configuration. When I connect it as a secondary master or slave it works at multiword2 or PIO and will not go higher. It will only work in UDMA mode 2 if I connect it through my harddrive (but drops back down to PIO after a while)or when it is a Primary slave and my HDD is a Secondary Master (but also goes back to PIO after a while).
Here's what I have already tried:
Removing the secondary IDE channel in device manager, reboot and let windows auto-detect. Bought a new IDE cable. Re-installed windows twice since i bought it (Not upgrade).Tried various Master/Slave and IDE combinations (and always changed jumpers correctly).
Could someone please shed some light on this annoying
problem? I exchanged this drive twice already so I don't think that the MSI is at fault. Is it my motherboard? Please help.
    Thank you

  • DVD Player has problem burning -R verbatum lightscribe disc

Has anyone else had this issue? Trying to burn an Imovie HD movie and my new Panosonic DVD player says its uncompatable. Is it the disc or the computers DVD writer?

    Hi
There are more than one thing about this - But as You've done and used DVD+R before - first thought is
    • Dust on the DVD-Burner Laser Lens - I use a DVD-Cleaning disk (with brushes - NO Liquid) now and then
    Other thoughts
    • Cheap DVD Brands - Usually do not work as Memorex, NoName etc.
    - I only use Verbatim
    • DVD type - DVD+R is a more modern format and older DVD-players can not playback these
    - I only use DVD-R (Never ever DVD+/-RW)
    • Burn speed matters - full speed and many BURN ERRORS
    - I always set this down to x2 or x4 - Plays on many more DVD-players
    • Save as a DiskImage
    - I always do - to see that all works as I like it before burning - then I use Disk Util tool or Toast™ to Burn
( This has ONE Major Advantage ! it splitts the DVD process into two parts and if anything goes wrong one can pin the problem to one of the parts )
    • Free Space on Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk
    - for SL-DVDs I secure a minimum of 25GB free space - for DL-DVDs 50GB and if HD-Material is used about 4 - 5 times more to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK during Process.

  • INSIGNIA DVD REMOTE CODE

There have been some posts on this in the past, but just in case someone has found a code that works, I thought I'd ask again...
I have an INSIGNIA DVD player, model NS-DVD1.  The code in the remote control manual does not work for my player, and going through the 922 programming procedure doesn't work either.

  • How do I burn a DVD on my new iMac to play on external DVD player

I have a new iMac at work (3.5 GHz Intel Core i7), running on OS X Yosemite, and I'm trying to figure out how to burn a DVD that can be played on an external DVD player. I have a disc burner connected, but just noticed that iDVD (the way I used to burn video files) is no longer part of my installed applications.
    Thanks for any help.

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Softwareor eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
If you're creating a slideshow in iPhoto and want to add it to an iDVD project export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
