Low Application Space

I keep getting the low application space on my Droid Incredible. To fix this problem, I have browsed what others said and it doesn't work for my phone apparently. I have purchased an SD card, but I can't move hardly any applications to it. I have also gone so far as to deleting all my music and pictures and I really don't want to do that. Is there anybody out ther that knows how to fix this problem? It is become a pain in the you know what!

Low application space means that the internal memory is getting full NOT the SD card.
Have you tried clearing the cache on your apps?  Settings > applications > manage applications > all tab > Menu button > sort by size.  go through each app one by one and pressing the clear cache button wherever you find it.
Do you use the default email app?  How large is listed in the all applications?  You may need to delete the emails in your "Trash" folder in the app.
How larger is your Dialer storage app.  This holds all your SMS, MMS messages and call log.  If it is quite large like over 5 MB, consider clearing the data on it.  You will lose your messages and call log so you want them back, you can use an app like SMS Backup & Restore to save the SMS messages to the SD card.  There apps for the call log too.
Start with that and see where you go.

  • Snow Leopard 'error code 50', 'Low Application memory'. Help.

    Hi.
I've been facing **** lot of problems with my MBP of late, and all that I could try have turned unfruitful. I'd appreciate some help.
Problems started when I downloaded and tried to install SL update 10.6.7 on 10.6.6. It was working fine on 10.6.6. The update failed, and I received 'error code 50' very often while deleting files from Trash. Also, 'beach-balling' became more frequent, and I had to force quit applications very often because of 'low application memory' box being displayed.I also encountered the grey screen prompting me to 'press power button till shut down and restart'.
Finally, I tried a clean reinstall but the same problems persisted, and lots of applications stopped working. I could not download files from browser (Low disk space, despite a 100 GB space available on he HD) or save textedit, Office or iWork files. I did a clean reinstall again, with zero-erase option and again downloaded the 10.6.7 combo update. The 'Software Update' application failed. I downloaded the update from my browser and it was installed successfully finally after 4 system restarts, but the 'error code 50' problem still persists.
What am I doing wrong? I've been dealing with this abnormal performance for more than a month. I haven't backed up files because there is no use making a backup of corrupt system. Specs : MBP'09, 13.3". 2.26 GHz, 160 GM, SL 10.6.7.
    Please advice.
    Regards.

I tried to run the hardware test by inserting the Applications Install dvd and pressing 'D' just after the chime. It did not run. Nevertheless, the App DVD is ejected every time I insert it in to install some apps, like iLife etc. Running Disk Utility dies not work, as it says the 'disk cannot be mounted'.
I tried another clean reinstall of SL 10.6, and some of the funny stuff are :
    1. error code 50 yet again
    2. It won't allow me take snapshots, saying 'You do not have permission to save snapshots etc.."
    3. Safari cannot download files
    4. 'Low Application Memory' message box appeared a few times, prompting me to Force Quit Safari.
Could there be something wrong with the Install DVD? Though Disk Utility First Aid shows error free HD verification.

  • Does low disk space make my Macbook Pro act weird?

Hi! I have an early 2011 15" MBP with a 750gb hard disk space. Just the other day, while I was using photoshop with my laptop, the screen went off so I had to reset it. My laptop acted weird after: doing a screen split (the right part goes to the left and vice versa), one time it had weird pixels that were scattered all over, recently, a blue striped screen. All of this froze my laptop by the way. And all of this happened after a few minutes of usage. And I noticed if I use photoshop, it would only take a little amount of time before it would act weird again compared to when I don't. All the times caused me to reset my laptop by holding the power button.
Yesterday, it wouldn't boot past the gray screen after resetting about five times. But after it turned off by itself, I tried turning it on again and it booted normally. And I could use it normally again, but with extra care (using it beside an electric fan, checking the temperature with iStat pro).
I tried the extended Apple Hardware Test but it told me no trouble was found.
Another thing was, everytime my laptop froze and did the weird screen thingy, my laptop was hot.
I tried to use it again yesterday to just surf the web, and after some minutes it was still functioning. But I remember one time I was only surfing the web, it did the split screen and froze after almost an hour or so.
Also, my laptop heats up quickly compared before. And can stand being hot for a long time until now.
I haven't used any heavy applications besides photoshop to test my laptop's weird behavior by the way.
So I guess it's because of the laptop's heat. Because I can only use it for a very short time when using photoshop but I can use my laptop for a longer time when only surfing the web.
I also noticed that if I was forced to reset my laptop and turn it on again, it would boot longer than normal. But if I was able to shut it down properly and turn it on again, it would boot normally.
And, just a while ago, I remembered my laptop's disk space was only 14gb from 750gb (downloaded a lot of series since I bought my laptop). So maybe what's causing the heat was the low disk space. Just a guess.  So is it possible that my laptop is behaving weird because of the low disk space?

The problem is back. But this time, it only happened when I used photoshop or played a 1080p video. I was using my laptop for almost 3 hours when i decided to use photoshop. It froze as soon as it started and made my screen display weird pixels. I restarted and tried to open photoshop again and this time, it froze. I did it the third time and after using PS for a minute, it did the split screen. After restarting yet again, I tried to play a 1080p video to just test my laptop. It froze as soon as VLC started. But when i only surf the web (which is the only thing I did before using PS), everything goes well. So I guess it really is the GPU and not the logic board or some other parts. I've decided to just have my laptop checked.

  • Blue sceen appeared after low disk space warning

Hi Everyone, just seen a message stating a low disk space on my Mac pro bought last November and tried plugging in an external hard drive to remove some pictures to free up some space but it seems that the computer did not have enough space left to start up and run the hard drive. I then tried to restart and ended up with a blue screen and have no knowledge now how to fix this problem. I phoned support but they say I have no technical support left but do have warranty and I would need to either try with the community here or take the unit to an apple store for an appointment. The store is an 1 and 1/2 from me and I really want o see if there is another fix that could allow me to start again then remove some files and then add external drive to remove more. I was blown away at the low amount of storage.....looked for the icloud option last night to upload there as i was told about this by a UK client of mine and now see it is not up and running. Any advice or help by the communtiy would be greatly appreciated as this is my business and travelling laptop. Cheers, Dean <")))><

    Hi Dean,
You may be able to access it via FireWire Target Disk Mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
If so, move and delete enough so you have at least 15% free space on the MBP's HD. After that, run Repair Disk:
First check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down the c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on theUtilities Menu in the menu bar > select Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side (the name of the HD’s manufacturer and the model number, usually the top item in the list) > look at the bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” (good) or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T. status is "Verified," run Repair Disk > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility (such as DriveGenius, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior) or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

  • Problem With Low Disk Space - Message - Email and ...

    Hi all,
I have a N97 and i noticed that when i have around 200 stored messages in my sent and my received in box then i get the e-mail disconnecting and saying to me that it's been disconnected due to low disk space.
So i tried changing the location of the folders for the e-mails and then i got a warning about the folders not being correct and had to restore them to the original settings.
I'm sure this is also related but some one tried to send me a small video via blue tooth and it told me that the memory was full but for the life of me i can't seem to change where a blue tooth message would go too.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
i know i may have 2 separate issues here but it's all the same low disk space or out of disk space etc etc
it would seem that it's a problem so how can i go about fixng it, it's poor...
The first offering is Nokia's new 'Messaging' client. If you really, really have been looking forward to this then by all means install it, but beware that it will, between application and messagebase, use up a lot of disk C: on its own. And you can't switch the messagebase to 'mass memory', because that gets locked out when you connect your N97 up to your PC or Mac, switching Nokia Messaging back to C:. As a long time Gmail user, I still find it easier to use either the 'old' S60 Messaging application (in IMAP4 mode) or just use the standalone Gmail (Java-based) application, which has the benefit of speed and of an utterly minimal footprint in daily use.
Also offered via 'Sw update' is Ovi Maps 3.1, which also insists on ensconcing itself on C:. If version 2.0 is working well for you then there really isn't a compelling reason to update, to be honest. Or at least not one that's compelling enough to warrant signing over at least 7MB of C: to it. If version 2 isn't working for you, you still shouldn't install v3.1, as offered, but go for the very latest v3.3, from the Nokia Beta Labs Maps page. It's faster and slicker and at least you'll be getting extra functionality for your lost Megabytes, including less troublesome GPS performance. See below for more on the GPS.
Next is Ovi Contacts, a beta-quality social integration system that's yet to take off in any meaningful way. Again, just avoided unless you really, really want to get involved. You don't need to lose the vital Megabytes.
Then there's the N-Gage games client, another C: biggie, seemingly swallowing up 6MB or so in a real world installation - if, like me, you're rather underwhelmed by N-Gage titles (in fact, underwhelmed by gaming on Symbian in general, but that's another rant for another day), then just say no and, again, give your internal disk a break.
The final optional 'Sw update' was Quickoffice 6, bringing compatibility with Office 2007 documents. This also takes up the best part of 10MB on C:, so unless you get a lot of Docx or Xlsx files by email then I'd strongly suggest holding fire on this update - you'll probably get it anyway in the v20 firmware in a few months time.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, don't know wether you've done this, but go into messaging/options/settings/other/memory in use/set as E:mass memory. If this causes a problem with email, simply delete mailbox and re-install it, it only takes a couple of minutes. One other thing , if you want to save any txt messages, sync with ovi first. Also to get C memory back delete all messages sent , recieved, reports etc before selecting Memory in use as E. Also go to web browser and clear privacy data regularly. One other thing to note is that usually when connected to computer via usb, messaging memory will revert to C, and you won't be able to see any messages , so reset to E again and they are all there. Best taskmanager from Ovi store is also a real help with memory on phone.
Hope this helps, and my appologies for the somewhat eratic layout nof the advice. Should have mentioned clearing messages from C before using E !
    Good Luck

  • Could Very Low Disk Space Cause problems?

Hi, my 600 GB Hard Drive only had around 5 GB of space left . I purchased a new 1 TB Hard Drive in order to delete media so that I could gain the space back. I've since gained back 200 GB of Space but Could very low disk space cause issues? What kind of issues could occur? Thanks

There are any number of reasons for occasional beachballs to appear. They will appear when some programs are involved in heavy disk I/O which tends to be processor dependent and causes the program to suspend all other activity until the disk activity has completed. This is more often the case when writing to the disk. Beachballs may also appear if the OS has to use disk I/O and is slowed down by an over-filled and/or fragmented hard drive. The fuller a drive gets the greater the likelihood that fragmentation will become a more noticeable problem. Beachballs can appear if you are low on physical memory so applications must resort to disk-based virtual memory which is considerably slower and tends to cause the computer to become slow or unresponsive for a period of time. It can also cause disk-thrashing. Beachballs can occur if the disk has become corrupted causing applications to have difficulty reading from or writing to the disk.
It is possible to repair a drive's directory, and it's even possible to identify corrupted files, but it's not possible to repair corrupted files nor repair a corrupted drive. If a drive develops corrupted files either the files will need to be replaced or deleted. If a drive develops soft sector errors these can be repaired by erasing the drive (reformatting.) If a drive develops hard sector errors these may or may not be repairable, but if they are repairable it requires zeroing the data during a disk formatting operation. If the disk directory becomes corrupted that can be repaired using Disk Utility or one of the various third-party utilities such as Disk Warrior. Disk Utility can repair many but not all directory corruption problems. What DU cannot fix Disk Warrior usually can.
    You can start repairing a drive as follows;
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
This applies to your startup volume. No need to repair permissions on any but a startup volume.

  • Flash Player 11.0 on Android -- Low on Space Message

Ever since Flash Player 11.0 was released for the Android, and since it was automatically downloaded to my phone (HTC Incredible), I have been receiving a "Low on Space" message, with instructions to free up space for applications.  In researching this topic, I've found literally hundreds of posts with various solutions. I tried some of the suggestions, including moving my apps to the SD card; uninstalling apps I could do without; and clearing cache and data where possible.  After removing updates for Gmail, Flash Player, and another app, I believe I've narrowed the problem to Flash Player.  I was able to install the Gmail updates again with no message.  But, every single update from the defaulted Flash Player 10.1 to the new 11.0 causes the "Low on Space" message to appear.
So my question is, why is this version causing the message?  And then, is there a solution to keep the update and lose the message?
PS: In some of my research, folks have pointed to a 150 MB limit on apps in the Andoid OS.  This seems to be regardless of whether the app was moved to the SD card.
Any help on this is appreciated.

The OEM has configured the pre-installed applications on your device to auto-update.  The installation and update behavior is handled by the Android Market system.  We've researched the problem diligently, but there's not anything we can do from this side to prevent your device from requesting updates from the Android Market when they're available.
We have explored the option of enabling App2SD, but it is not a viable solution.
First and foremost, enabling App2SD does not work on Android 2.x devices where the application has already been pre-installed by the manufacturer.  The vast majority of users asking for App2SD are running the HTC Desire, or similar early-model Android phones with limited internal storage and have Flash Player pre-installed.  Enabling App2SD in our distribution won't help, because you still won't get the option to move it.
Furthermore, because Flash Player a browser plug-in and not a standalone app, enabling App2SD is a complex proposition and could cause your phone to become unstable in certain scenarios.  Flash Player is running inside of the Android Browser, and by extension, other applications that may be invoking the Android browser inside their applications.  When you plug your phone into USB to sync files, the SD card would unmount, and this could cause applications using Flash Player at the time to crash.
To do this right, we would need additional improvements to the Android OS, which may or may not be feasible.  We will continue to work with Google to explore and prioritize our options in this regard.
There are unofficial workarounds to be found on various android forums that will let you enable App2SD today.  They suffer from the same stability problems, but they seem to work well-enough for a lot of people.  If you're desperate for internal storage space, that may be a good way to maximize the capabilities of your device's hardware.
With regard to the size of the binary distribution, until very recently, the architecture of the Android Market dictated that we could only serve a single binary that provides optimized video and multimedia playback on the hundreds of Android phones and tablets available (which are running a variety of GPU and CPU architectures, with each new architecture requiring it's own code paths and highly optimized inline assembly for performance-critical video and rendering tasks).  Interestingly, Android stores both the compressed and uncompressed copies of our installation on your device.  Our compressed size is about 5MB, and the uncompressed size is about 7MB, making the total footprint 12MB.
The size of the codebase itself is reflective of the complexity and fragmentation between the huge number of available Android devices and the rapid innovation on the part of phone and hardware manufacturers.
We're very conscious of the distribution size and have really taken every step technically possible to reduce the size of the compressed and installed binaries.  We spend a lot of time and energy on keeping the player as small as it is.  Any additional trade-offs that we could make between file size would come at the expense of execution speed (we inline a lot of performance-critical code), which would negatively affect video and multimedia playback performance (and don't yield enough of an improvement to make the trade-off worthwhile).  We feel we've arrived at the right balance currently.
To give you some perspective, current well-equipped Android phone models ship with at least 1GB of internal phone storage.  In this context, Flash Player's 12MB footprint is negligible.  While we understand the impact on devices with minimal internal storage, there's not much else we can do for these phones at this time.

  • IPad 2 low on space

Hi, I have an 16 GB iPad 2 that is coming up with an error that it is low on space.  My current stats are:
    Songs: 0
Videos: 8 (but these won't download?)
    Photos: 61
    Applications: 7
    Capacity: 13.8 GB
    Available: 984 MB
    Version: 5.0.1 (9A405)
3 of my apps are waiting to update (and have been for 3 days now).  Are the video's causing problems?  Of the 8 videos, 7 show up in the video app, and only 2 are playable, the rest are not fully downloaded.  I'm going on a 13 hour flight next week and rented the video's for entertainment.  What should I do??
Any help would be great, thanks!

    Hi,
it seams you just have 984 mb of free space so the videos are probably taking the space. Try to restart the ipad and turn wi-fi off/on to see if downloads finish. If they don't, download them on the computer (if you download them with the same appleid then first time, you will not be charged again, if you are, do contact iTunes store and they will refund) and sync them to the ipad, that could solve the issue. Still issue? then I would first download a free very small app to the ipad to see if it unblocks the download and otherwise, restore the device and re-sync the movies.
Good luck and have a nice trip.

  • Low on Space

My wife and I both have HTC Incredibles purchased at the same time and we now both have Low on space but, when we look at our storage capacity we have plenty everywhere. We deleted some apps we never used any way. But, this did not fix this issue. It is annoying and does keep us from doing certain things on our phones like FB etc. what is up with this mess. Also my Gmail will not sync and give me any mail new or old. About ready to go out and buy new phones!

Hello Greenweenie, Let's give you back control over your phones! It is possible the internal cache of apps like Gmail and Facebook could be filling up. Try Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All>Choose Gmail or Facebook>Clear cache and/or data. Please keep me updated on the status as I would be happy to offer additional support.
    Thank you,

  • Iphoto library is running low on space

I am not sure how to make space on my iMac.  When I start up the computer it says the startup disk is almost full.  When I try to download pictures it says the the disk containing you iPhoto library is running low on space.  I realize I have to get iPhoto, iTunes and iMovie on to our external hard drive.  I am not sure how to do this without losing pictures, music and movies.  Can anyone walk me through the steps?

This is our resident iPhoto guru, Terence Devlin's, advice:
You can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    iTunes:
    1. Quit iTunes
    2. Drag the iTunes folder from your internal hd - located in ~/Music folder - to your external hd. DO NOT delete the original one from your internal hd... yet!
    3. When the transfer is complete, press and hold the Option(alt) key and fire up iTunes.
    4. A "Choose iTunes Library" window will come up. Click on the "Choose Library" button.
    5. Navigate to where the iTunes folder is located in the external hd.
    6. Within the iTunes folder, select the iTunes Library file and click Choose...
That's it. iTunes will now display all your playlists, songs, movies, podcasts etc. At this point, should you wish, you can delete the iTunes folder from the internal hd to free up space.

    As for iMovie:
Keep the application on your startup drive, but save the projects to the externa; drive.

  • "Low on space" Message Even Thought There's Plenty Of Space Left

On Sunday I started getting the message
         "Low on space
Phone Storage space is getting low."
    on the status bar.
When I tap it, I'm taken to the "Manage Applications" screen, so it's clear that the message refers to the "Phone Memory," where apps are stored.
But when I go to Settings > SD card & phone storage here's what I see:
    SD Card Total Space: 14.83GB
    SD Card Available Space: 6.15GB
Internal Phone Storage Total Space: 6.60GB
Internal Phone Storage Available Space: 6.51GB
    Phone Memory Total Space: 748MB
    Phone Memory Available Space: 332MB
I've googled looking for solutions and it's obvious that this is a fairly common problem - especially on HTC phones. But the only possible solutions I've found are:
Too many apps are installed & space really is running low
A "bad" app was recently installed causing this error
Clear the cache for HTC Mail and HTC Message apps
    Perform a Factory Reset
We can rule this out since there is more than 44% of the Phone Memory available.
I didn't install any apps immediately before getting the message, but to be sure I uninstalled the 10 most recently added apps. No luck.
I've gone to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, but the cache for these apps is already zero.
This isn't fixing the problem, it's just a way to eliminate whatever condition has caused the symptom. But without an explanation of the actual problem I see no reason to think the problem won't come back in another two months.
And finally, yes, I've rebooted & pulled the battery.
I've spent more than two months tweaking my Incredible getting it set up the way I want so I really don't want to wipe all of that out with a Factory Reset.
    Any other ideas?

i had the same problem. did a lot of research..my phone became unusuable. do you use the htc mail? if so that is your problem. there is a bug with it that it keeps eating your memory until you cannot use your phone. i had to do a hard reset. back to factory condition..not happy! but then went to the marketplace and got k-9 mail. that is now my default mail program. i have not had any issues since then. this is what i kept reading over and over for complaints on this phone. it is a major glitch and the only way, as of the time it happened to me, to fix it..

  • Nagging "Low Disk Space" on Lenovo_Recovery Q:

    Hi,
Just got my new T530. I loaded my application and data and everything works all right.
However, several times a day I get a "low disk space" popop on the Recovery directory. When displaying the details from the popup there is only a cleanup options, but being the recovery directory there is nothing to cleanup.
Any idea how I can stop the popup?
    Thanks

    A couple of ideas:
    1. You can stop Windows from "crying wolf" using this Registry hack: Disable Low Disk Space Notification Alert In Windows 7 / Vista. That's probably the easiest solution but it has the disadvantage that it disables the alert on all disks.
    2. Another approach might be to extend the size of the Q: partition using Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management. This could take a lot of time because you'll have to first shrink the C: partition that follows it to make room.
