Low batter screen when plugged in; Computer won't recognize iPod

My iPod stopped working two days ago. When I try to turn it on the screen stays blank. I've tried resetting it (holding down all buttons), and the screen remains blank.
When charging, the display flashes on to the "charging, low battery" screen, then goes back to black.
I've left it to charge for 24 hours, and I get no response.
My computer (and iTunes) won't recognize it when plugged in. I've tried manual searches, USB function scans, checked my cords, re-installed iTunes, and still nothing happens.
Once iTunes did recognize the iPod, and said it "detected a device in recovery mode". I let it go on, but when the recovery pack was done downloading I got an eror #1602 pop-up telling me the device could not be detected.
Is this a battery issue? Can I fix my device, or is it a lost cause?
Thank you for your time.

Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Storage space full of "other", computer won't recognize iPod is plugged in

I just downloaded about 100 songs onto my 160 gigabyte iPod Video Classic, making my number of songs only about 1,300. My iPod says its storage now only has 1.9 mb left. I only have about 10 videos and no photos, but the "other" section of the storage content bar takes up a ton of space. It had none before. How do I remove the "other" from my iPod? Now my computer won't recognize any iPod when I plug it in, and I've tried multiple plugs.

Connect the iPod to a USB2.0  port, on the Computer itself and not a USB hub or those found on the Apple keyboard.
If iTunes launch, close it back.
If your iPod is found on your Desktop, then run DiskUtility, (if not then Reset the iPod while connected to the Mac)
    Select you iPod
Click FirstAid Tab on the right window.
    Press the Repair button.
After Repair finish, iTunes may launch and ask to Restore, this will delete all the data in your iPod.
if iTunes did not launch, just Reset iPod again while connected to your Mac.
Always don't use USB hub or the Keyboard USB port or else your problem will come back, as the power is insufficient from these shared ports for iPod harddisk write process.
    Good Luck!

  • Computer won't recognize iPod and iPod is frozen

Just pulled my iPod out of it's case. When I went to install the software, the computer won't recognize the iPod Nano. I've tried all 6 USB ports. Computer states:
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it."
Now the iPod has locked up, won't change screens or makes any sounds. I've gone through the help guide, but toggling the hold button doesn't help either.

I had the same problem with mine! I took it out of the box and it was working just fine, but as soon as I plugged it into the computer, the screen froze and the computer reported the exact same error message. I've tried resetting it, but none of the buttons work now, and I even tried restoring it, but the computer doesn't even recognize that it's an ipod nano. I'm starting to wonder if I need to just replace it.

  • Computer won't recognize ipod

We had work done to our computer and they had to take everything off the computer and reload the operating system. My itunes were restored, but when I connect my ipod the computer won't recognize my ipod and the songs I recently downloaded from the itunes store won't synchronize. Any thoughts?

I am having the same problem. I recently got a new iPod nano 3rd gen, connected it to iTunes and my computer and it was all well and good. I then connected it for a second time, all fine. But ever since then my computer says "one of the devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it". My iPod works absolutuely fine apart from that. Any suggestions?

  • Computer won't recognize ipod and ipod flases foler with exclamation point

Last week, my computer randomly said it did not recognize my ipod. I continued to use it and figured I'd worry about updating it another time. Then today, I was using my nano and it stopped and flashed the folder with the exclamation point icon and below the icon directed my to Apple's support website. I've tried most of the things I've seen in the forums, and I really have no clue what to do. Everytime I try to turn it on, the icon comes up and everytime I try to connect to iTunes my computer won't recognize it.

  • Computer won't recognize iPod in iTunes or Finder

So I'm going batty trying to figure this out. I recently purchased a fifth generation 30GB refurbished iPod through Apple. I think it's one of the earlier models. I am running on OSX 10.2.8 with iTunes 6.0.5 (because that's the latest version my OSX will allow me to run).
When I connected it to my computer and allowed it to charge, it appeared in my iTunes and everything worked fine. I used it for about a week after with no problems.
When I plugged it back into my computer in order to charge it and update it with some new songs I had downloaded, my computer wouldn't recognize it. The menu screen on the iPod flashes the "Do Not Disconnect" icon, but it doesn't appear in either iTunes or in the Finder.
I have tried the 5 R's like it said on the troubleshooting support page, but it hasn't done anything.
So what's the deal?? It was working, and now it's not. What gives??

You can try to put it on Recovery mode then restore it..
Press or Hold the power and home keys 10 seconds.
Screen goes black, now release the power button
Make sure you do not release the Home key until
your iTunes says "We have detected an itouch
    in recovery mode."
After this its simple all you
got to do is a simple restore using your iTunes

  • "Do not disconnect" message and computer won't recognize iPod

    Hi,
This morning I made the simple error of unplugging my iPod without safely ejecting it first--a moment's inattention and now I'm stuck.
I plugged it back in and tried to safely remove it as usual. The "remove this peripheral" window appeared but froze, with the hourglass hanging there.
I looked in the iPod User's Guide and it suggested rebooting the machine, so I did. The situation didn't change: the iPod said "Do not disconnect," it was not showing in the Windows Explorer or in iTunes, and the "safely remove" procedure froze.
I looked up online iPod help, following the link in iTunes, and tried "resetting"--didn't work. The "do not disconnect" message didn't budge.
I tried again with different USB ports--no luck.
I restarted my computer again. The iPod appeared in the Windows Explorer but not in iTunes. I tried to eject it safely through the system tray icon and was told "Windows does not recognize this peripheral. Try again. If Windows still does not recognize the peripheral, replace it." I tried to eject it via Windows Explorer and got another error message basically saying "I can't do anything with this drive."
The other two steps in the "five Rs" are "Reinstall iPod and iTune software" and "Restore your iPod." Both of these are impossible if the computer can't communicate with the iPod.
So my computer can't communicate with my iPod, and my iPod thinks it's still connected to the computer, so I can't use it. All because I made one thoughtless error and unplugged the iPod incorrectly. The iPod wasn't even in the process of updating or anything, it was just sitting there. Surely I'm not the only person this has happened to?? What on earth can I do?
Meanwhile it's really inconvenient since I'm leaving on vacation in a couple of hours and I had been planning on using the iPod-digital camera connector to store my photos on the iPod while traveling in Burma where I will have no access to computers.

Try resetting the iPod by holding the menu and center buttons for 6 to 10 seconds.
If that doesn't work, put it in disk mode http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 and then connect it to the PC and restore it with the latest ipod updater (Version 06-28-2006) You can download the latest here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • New computer won't recognize Ipod

I built a new computer but neither Windows nor Itunes will recognize my Ipod Classic. I have tried everything up to and including a restore. I have tried using a different cable and every USB port. I even took it to an apple store and had it reformatted and it still didn't work.
My old crappy laptop that I used to use recognizes it as does my newer netbook which I am now using to sync my Ipod until I can fix this problem because I transferred all my music to an external dirve anyway. Strangely I also have an Ipod Nano which my newly built desktop does recognise.

As an update, I just noticed that my Ipod says it has no music on it even though it has synced and the netbook uploaded all the music to it.

  • Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in, any ideas?

Decided to update iphone 4 to ios 5.1 and mid update it froze and the screen is black.  Phone does not respond to any combinations of home and power buttons, when plugged into computer it does not see it is plugged in so I cannot restore or anything.  Looks like the screen is on it's just unresponsive and black obviously.  Has anyone had this problem?  I was updating via wifi right in front of my router and my computer.

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department.  Her suggestions:  change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers.  So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue.  It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more.  Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department.  Make them aware of this problem!

I have the first ipad and it won't recognize the charger and also the computer won't recognize the ipad when I plug it in to sync. Any ideas why?

If your using the same cable for your wall charger as you are for your computer, than the problem is probably within the cable (if there isn't visible damage to the cable of coarse). The quockest solution would be to buy your self a new cable. There is probably nothing wrong with your wall adapter, so just the cable will do.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
