is that normal?
what can i do

Can it be configure?
Can I change the percentage to 10% for example?
My biggest problem is when running VMware in full screen and working on MSoffice. without any advice the MAC Switchs down without any advice. Yes I said switch down, not goes to sleep, so i loose everything i was doing.

  • Confused: Keyboard doesn't have batteries, warning "batteries low replace them" now numeric pad won't work!

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-keyboard-aluminum/3142351.p?id=1218379768576&s kuId=3142351
I KNOW THIS IS THE WRONG AREA FOR THIS QUESTION, SINCE ITS NOT ABOUT MAGIC MOUSE OR TRACKPAD, BUT THERE IS NO OTHER COMMUNITY EVEN CLOSE TO DISCUSSING KEYBOARDS - CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE?
I have the Apple wired keyboard with attached numbers keypad. For appx a week I have had my mac popup and warn me "keyboard batteries are low, replace them". I just laugh and thought how weird since I do not have anywhere to replace batteries on this keyboard. I have flipped it over and I see no battery compartments. See link.
Well today I wake up to discover my numeric keypad does not work, as in when I press numbers nothing happens at times and every once in awhile I can get a number to work. But everything else works incl the numbers above letters (at the top, left of numeric keypad).
This # is on the back of the keyboard: CC2402209WKDPQVAT
I am at a loss, how do you make it think you have "replaced batteries"? And why would the numeric keypad stop working correctly?
I DESPERATELY need the keypad thats why I purchased it so any thoughts or suggestions?

I do have the wireless, but it is packed in a box, in the garage. That is great bluetooth reach if it is.
So I need to mention, I run our auto glass company on my mac, but have parallels for software/windows compatibility issues. When I disconnected from the bluetooth wireless listed one, I could no longer type from this keyboard. I also clicked on Parallels and chose keyboard/numpad in settings. When I did I could type away all functions working on the keyboard. HOWEVER, now on my mac side, nadda! Numbers, letters, return, etc nothing worked. I then unplugged keyboards usb from back of mac and shut off mac and then turned it back on. Still didn't work, so I reconnected from that list, and now it works on both mac and parallels...and now it is back to low batteries!
How do I get my mac to recognize I have this non wireless keyboard? I have looked all thru keyboard in preferences and I don't see how.
Again, thank you for your replies and suggestions!!

  • No low battery warning on new Macbook Pro (Mid 2012)

    Hello!
I just purchased my macbook pro this saturday and it's my first mac. I've noticed that I do not receive a low battery warning at all. What can I do about this?

Thanks for the battery info, but the steps for calibrating the battery don't apply to current laptop models.

    Portables with built-in batteries
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article.

  • No "Low Battery" warning on new (November 07) MacBook - Kernel Panic

    Hello,
I'm not sure is this is the right forum for this, but since the problem occurs during a specific battery state, I'm going to post it here.
I just got one of the new November 07 MacBooks. The machine is great, and screams with the pre-installed Leopard.
First thing I did was plug it in to charge as I started configuring software. Once it was fully charged, I pulled the plug, and began using it on battery. My plan was to calibrate the battery, by running it all the way until it forced a sleep, then shutting down and plugging it in again, as Apple recommends.
Problem is, I never got the "Low Battery" warning, or even the sleep warning. At around 10 minutes of power left, I simply got a kernel panic. A few seconds later, the laptop just switched off.
I plugged in again for a few minutes, then ran it down again to see if I could reproduce the error, and I did get the low battery warning.
The next time the battery ran down, it gave me the kernel panic.
Is this happening to anyone else? Is it a new MacBook problem, or a leopard power management problem? I'm having no other issues at all with the MacBook or Leopard. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm a little hesitant to force a firmware update on a MacBook it wasn't meant for. These are brand new models, and I would think Apple didn't ship them with the known faulty batteries or bad firmware.
The frustrating thing is I have no way of knowing who the culprit is. Is it the brand new OS that I'm sure has a fair share of bugs? Is it the new hardware having a power control issue? Or is it a combination of Leopard and the new hardware? I was hoping to find some users who had the same problem so I could narrow it down. Battery drains out, kernel panic, then the machine shuts off after a few seconds. Funny thing is, the indicator says I have like 10 minutes or so left, but it appears that the battery must be completely dead, since it forces a panic and the machine just dies. So it might be a calibration error. The Mac thinks it has some juice, but in reality it's just about dead.
I made an appointment for the Apple store tomorrow, so we'll see what they have to say. It's otherwise running beautifully, thankfully.

  • Low battery warning for my iMac keyboard

I keep getting a low battery warning for my iMac keyboard even when it has brand new batteries. Is there a way to switch this off or reset it so that it doesn't keep informing me?

Hello! I also have this problem. My keyboard is brand new and so also the batteries. I have tried with different types of batteries but get the same warning. I also have tried to erase the device in the bluetooth settings and add it again. Nothing works. It is a pity because I like mac.

  • MacBook shuts down after low battery warning

    Hi,
up until recently my macbook's battery has been working just fine. but then lately i noticed that a few minutes after it displays the low battery warning it shuts down by itself.
before, when the low battery warning would display i could still continue working on my macbook for several minutes until it goes to sleep -- only then would i connect it to the power cord.
unlike the other posts (concerning batteries) that i've read, i have no problems turning my macbook on/off before or after this event has occured. neither does it shut itself down when the battery is halfway. my problem really only happens after the low battery warning has been displayed.
i wanted to calibrate my battery but then that would require my macbook to go to sleep once it reaches a battery level of less than 5%-10% -- mine just shuts down completely.
is this shutting down thing a substitution mechanism to save the laptop's memory -- instead of going to sleep, it'd just shut down?? how can i fix this?
thanks in advance for the help.
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   512MB, 2GHz Intel Core Duo

For what it is worth, I now have the same issue. Only I don't even see the low battery warning, it gets to 15% or 10% and bang, no power. This is not good, by the way and is bound to corrupt something in the system as OSX requires some house keeping when you shut down the computer properly. This instant off is not a proper shut down. I took my MacBook in and they wouldnt simply replace the battery, they want to keep the computer and give it back to me in a few days. I rely on this puter for work 5 days a week, so I was trying to avoid this.
Oh well I guess a trip to the Apple store is unavoidable.

  • Zen Micro Photo Low Battery Warning With Fully Charged Batt

I have two of these players and both batteries work fine and indicate fully charged in one of the players. Neither battery works in the other player. No power at all with either of them. If I connect the player to a computer all I get is the creative splash screen followed by the Low Battery Warning with the yeild sign, nothing else. If I turn the player off then it reverts to no power at all. What is going on, anybody know?
    Thanks

What was the resolution. I am having the exact problem.

  • No low power warning

For a while now, my PB has stopped giving me the low battery warning. It will go to sleep with 12-21% battery life left. I let this happen maybe once a week or so. Any thoughts?
    Geoff

Apple says that a properly maintained battery should have 80% capacity at 300 cycles (battery life is generally measured in cycles, not calendar time). If a system is plugged in most of the time, and not drained at least monthly, the power capacity would drop off quicker. Apple's note on battery maintenance is at http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
As noted in the previous post, a battery that loses power suddenly is one sign that a lithium battery is approaching the end of it's life. You can always do a power management unit (PMU) reset to see if that affects anything, follow this Apple note: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

So it won't harm the battery to regularly charge it up when the battery level isn't at a low charge?
Yes. Ironically, modern batteries liked to be always charged - at least partially.

That is applicable and advisable for old batteries - early Nokia batteries - and especially NiMH and NiCd's. But not for modern batteries at the present.
Also, can it do harm to charge for say 30 minutes and not until it's full?
No. It won't pose any harm. As I've said, modern batteries like to be charged partially.
    Hope this helps

  • No "low battery" warning anymore

I have a Macbook Pro and noticed lately that it never gives me that "low battery" warning any longer. Rather, it just completely shuts down when it runs out of juice. Oftentimes I am sitting in front of the tv and surfing the web and while I realize it's running low, it'll just shut off. In the past - and I admit I mostly use my Mac plugged in at my desk - I'd always get that warning. Why is that and how can I get the warning back? At least it would give me ample time to get it plugged in before shutdown. Thanks.

The full charge capacity of the battery actually looks pretty good for 3 to 4 years old if this is a 15" MBP, Bluesygirl. (If it is a 17" then it is not so positive)
The problem with the cycle count is actually that it is way too LOW if the battery is this age. Lithium batteries actually need to be regularly used to maintain their condition. (see http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html and http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1764220 for good advice on maximising battery life). A battery that had been used in a fashion likely to maximise battery life would probably have completed at least 100 to 150 cycles by now at that age.
The age of the battery (if it is the same as the computer) also counts against it. The "real world" life expectancy of the batteries fitted in the 2006 to 2008 generally seems to be about two to three years.
Given the comparatively good full charge capacity that System Profiler identifies it is worth doing two things. Firstly you should try to recalibrate it following the instructions in the link in my previous post. THis will give a better idea of whether the battery really does have the capacity claimed. Secondly you should take it to an Apple store or AASP to get tested. Sometimes even though batteries maintain a fairly high voltage level / total capacity they lose the ability to meet sudden high current demand situations.
You might also consider resetting your SMC ( see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 ), but I think it would be wise to do the calibration and get the battery tested first, given the symptoms you describe.
    Cheers

  • Why does "low battery" warning always come up when I start the iMac?

I've been getting a "low battery" warning lately when I turn on my computer. I've tried 3 sets of new AA batteries (bought from 3 different stores), but that doesn't seem to help. Of course it could be caused by the unlikely event that all three "new" battery packs were not fresh, but that's unlikely.

and you're talking about the mouse ... the keyboard ... ?
also, does the message vanish after a while? what does the battery indicator say?

  • I'm trying to do a book using iphoto 11 (9.4.2), but i don't get a low resolution warning. Why? and how can i get the warning., i'm trying to do a book using iphoto 11 (9.4.2), but i don't get a low resolution warning. Why? and how can i get the warning.

I'm trying to do a book using Iphoto, but it no longer gives a low resolution warning like it used to in the older versions.
I don't know why it doesn't anymore, (or maybe I have to add it on somehow??) but it makes it difficult to know how much I can
zoom in on a picture and still have it be good printable resolution.
Does anyone know how to resolve this or add the warning to the latest version of iphoto?
    Thanks

With iPhoto 9 the low resolution for photos warning has been dropped. The only warning one will get now is for text that has overflowed the text box:
As Larry suggested send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html to get it back. That's a big omission in my opinion.
You can determine what your minimum resolution is for your images (if all taken from the same camera) by dividing the pixel dimensions by the size of the larges frame in the book which would be 8.5 x 11. If it's at or above 150 dpi you'll be above Apple's previous resolution warning limit.

  • Why does low resolution warning show when I used a high resolution camera

    Hi,
I am just learning about iphoto, and have been uploading photos I took with a 4 mega-pixel camera. I have printed out photos at Kodak printers directly from the camera, and they came out great. However, when I upload the photos to the Mac, then burn them to a CD, and try to print them they come out blurry and have the low resolution warning. Does anyone know why that is happening? Is there a setting that decides the photo quality when pictures are uploaded?
Are the photos I have now "doomed" to be at low resolution?
    Thanks

The "share" function actually places a mini-library on the CD so that it can be loaded into another Mac that has iPhoto. Just like in your library, the CD will contain, for each photo, the original "out of the camera" version AND the most recently modified version AND a thumbnail for viewing within iPhoto. Apparently the thumbnail was the one that was inadvertently selected for printing and, of course, the resolution is minimal.
If you want to burn a CD for use on a PC or to give to your favorite photo-finisher, create a folder on the desktop and "File/Export" the contents of the album to that folder. Then, EXIT iPhoto and burn the CD with the contents of the desktop folder. After checking the CD and confirming that all is OK, you can trash that folder.
