Low Battery/Critical Battery Alarm on Equium A100-027

I have bought an Equium A100-027 running on Vista Home Premium this Feb. Since then I have installed quite some software, eg Nokia phone software, bluetooth drivers, A-Virus & all MS updates.
When the battery gets low or critical I don't get any audio warning, despite having this option ticked in the Advanced Settings of the Power Options and using the Win default sound scheme.
The soundcard & speakers definitely work as I get the Win sound notifications and can play CDs, etc.
Is there a driver/software that can be re-installed to get this working again as System restore would only let me go back a month.
Thanks for any help,
Markus

Hi,
I saw your post before and I understand you need some help.
I can just give you the following suggestion:
- Update to the latest bios version ! (Check this site out:http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp?service=EU&mode=allMachines)
- Recover your machine and update ALL drivers/tools/etc., but before installing some "foreign" software, check if the "beeping" works correctly (For that stuff go here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp)
- Install your other software (Nokia manager, etc...) and check after every newly installed software if it still works. If after installing a specific software the "beep" doesnt work anymore then you know where the problem lays and you did some good software troubleshooting. ;)
In case of any questions: Just post :)

  • Equium A100-027: Toshiba Power Saver Utility

I have a Toshiba Equium A100-027 laptop and the fan goes on every couple of minutes after it has been on for 15 minutes and it is highly annoying.
I was told I could change the Cooling Method so that fan goes on less or constant but I can't seem to run the Power Saver Utility.
I uninstalled the Value Pack that came with the laptop and long with some other Toshiba programs but I installed it again from the website but I cannot find the Power Saver Utility. It is not in Control Panel. I see a folder with the files in on Program files but whenever I try and open it, it wont load anything.
    Why is this?
Can I run the Power Saver Utility on the A100-027 or is it not compatible or something?
I would have thought it should work on all Toshiba Laptops.
I can do a recovery and try it but I don't know if it will work or not?
If it works, whats the best option so the fan is either on much less or is on constantly at a lower speed?
I am sending the laptop to Toshiba to look at because I hear an audio glitch/crackling/fuzzing when I play music and the fan goes on and off and I think this must be some kind of small glitch to be fixed but I don't know if they can fix it. If they don't fix it, can they replace it?

There are no BIOS updates for my Laptop Model.
I have done a system recovery using the recovery disk and the audio glitch/crackling/fuzz persists and the fan runs at the same rate.
The laptop will be with Toshiba Engineers on Monday but I don't know if they will hear or notice the problem or if they do if they will fix it.
I hope they can either fix it or replace the laptop for me.

  • Question about memory upgrade in a Equium A100-027

    Hi there,
I have an Equium A100-027 notebook with 2 x 512 MB RAM installed. I'd like to add extra memory.
I have used Crucial's (www.crucial.com) website to scan my system and recommend memory modules. According to Crucial the A100-027 will support 2 x 2 GB modules giving 4 GB in total.
However a quick search using Google suggest I can only install 2 x 1 GB (2 GB in total) modules.
    Can anyone clarify please.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stephen

No, guys. The machine can be upgraded up to 4GB since the chipset is able to handle 4 Gigs of RAM.
That means you will have to place 2 x 2GB in the slots of the machine and you will have your upgaded system. :)
One of my machines is a A100 (European - but it doesnt matter which country, chipset is worldwide the same) and Ive upgraded it to 4 Gig with kingston RAM.
    Hope I could help...
    Cheers

  • Equium A100-027: Is it possible to upgrade the graphic card?

I recently received an Equium A100-027 for my birthday. Overall I'm extremely pleased with it, however the only problem I have is with the graphics card. I am a gamer, and the graphics card just can't handle most modern games.
I am looking into how to upgrade it, how much it will cost etc. However I don't wanna buy a graphics card just to realise that the inside is locked down. Since it's only a week old I also don't want to take a hammer to it just yet ;-)
Can anyone tell me how hard it is to upgrade the graphics card? Is it locked down, or easily accessible?

    Hi Emonn
Unfortunately, the graphic card upgrade is not possible. I dont know if you are familiar with the notebook technology but you should know that the graphic cards installed on the notebook motherboards are not same like the GPUs for desktop PCs.
The card a fixed and there is no way for an upgrade!!!
You can upgrade the memory modules or the HDD on the notebooks but not the graphic card!!!
Im also an gamer and Im a notebook owner but I dont use this unit for gaming but for usual usage like internet, programming, mps, etc
I have a second gaming machine and its a desktop PC. Its support a water cooling module and a really great graphic card but I will change it to the newest one NVIDIA which supports the directX10.
This is a future and all newest games will need this DrectX10!!!

  • I need a Wi-FI driver for Equium A100-027

I own a Toshiba Equium A100-027 with the Atheros AR5006EG Wi-Fi Adapter. The Laptop is running on Windows XP and I need some software to use the wireless adapter. Could someone help me somehow?
The Driver had a Genuiune Windows Vista but it was working slow and I've changed the OS to XP.

All you need is the right driver for WLAN card. Some special software is not necessary because you can configure WLAN using Windows WLAN settings.

  • Equium A100-027 - Audio Fuzz/Glitch/Click (Fan related)

    Hello,
I have seen other forums showing problems similar to this but I will explain the symptons.
I have two problems, which I am trying to fix.
    1. The fan on this laptop seems to turn on and off every couple of mins after the laptop has been running for over 15-20 mins. For the first 15-20 mins of it being turned on, the fan doesn't go on at all even if I open big programs up or do lots of things on it. However, after that time frame has been met, the fan turns on for a few seconds before turning on. The fan begins to go on every few mins and then it starts to go on every minute or two minutes. My room is not that warm but I suppose a very slight temperature change in the room can cause this? If I move the laptop to the hall-way where it is much much cooler, the fan seems to go on less - however, I cannot use the laptop in the middle of the hall-way to stop fan going on as much. The fan goes on everytime I open programs that are not very small, e.g. Notepad and Paint load with no fan required but opening Microsoft Word, Dreamweaver, FireFox, etc make the fan turn on for a few seconds. The fan only seems to last up to 5 seconds usually and I don't notice it staying on for long but the fact it has to come on so often annoys me. I notice typing in Dreamweaver design view make the fan turn on everytime I type. If I type a few letters, it comes on and goes off when I finish typing. If I continue to type for ages, the fan will stay on till I finish. This probbaly due to the high CPU Dreamweaver uses. I am using Vista and the CPU rises to 50% when I type in Dreamweaver, whereas typing on MSN or Word the fan doesn't come on and CPU is closer to 20-30% when typing and much lower when idle. I don't think this is to do with any hardware problem but I suppose its just possible. Is there a way to prevent it from going on as often as it does. Settings? External cooling method?
    2. When the fan goes on and off every minute or two, I hear a glitch in the audio when I am listening to music. I don't hear the sound when I am not listening to music but every few mins when listening to music, I hear a slight fuzz or glitch in the audio for less than a second. It is highly fustrating and I think it is probably a hardware problem as my friend has the same laptop and doesn't experience the glitch in his music. He does have the fan going on and off often when his room is warmer than normal but not overly warm so I assume this model laptop or model range has a sensitive fan but I am more concerned about the glitch rather than the fan. I listen to music a lot on the laptop so if the glitch was gone, the music would cover up the fan going on and off most of the time and I would probably get used to the fan when I am not listening to music. The glitch annoys me so much and I don't know what I should do.
I sent the laptop to The Tech Guys to look at but I don't know if they will be able to fix it or not. If I get it back and it is the same, I would have to send it to Toshiba as I rang them up and they were happy to take the laptop in too.
I was wondering, if they can't fix the problem, would they replace the laptop for me - even though PCWorld 28 day policy has passed. I am thinking they could if I sent directly to Toshiba themselves but I am uncertain.
If I change settings on laptop. it still covering up the problem so it would never be fixed if it is setting based. It really needs to be fixed physically or replaced.
    What do you think?
Any help and advise is much appriciated.

    Thank you for your reply.
I realised that I didn't have the Toshiba Power Saver Utilities.
This is because I uninstalled the Value Pack that came on the laptop.
I can install it again when I get the laptop back or do another format as I didn't put anything on it so doing another restore format wont do any harm.
Well - that would have solved the fan issue but it wouldn't have resolved the glitch as one of my friends has the same laptop and he doesn't get glitch even if power settings are default. Well - thanks for telling me about the cooler fan settings because this could come in handy when I get the laptop back.

  • Restoring to Factory Settings on Equium A100-027

    Hi
My laptop could really do with a reformat, but after trying several methods to restore it to the original factory settings, I'm having no luck.
I've tried Windows System Restore, pressing alt+F10 on startup, holding the 0 key when starting up...nothing seems to be working.
Also, I don't have the recovery disc that came with it.
I basically just want to wipe the laptop clean but be safe in the knowledge that Vista will re-install itself after the format.
I'd GREATLY appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions to this problem...it's getting in the way of my college work and I'm really in the dark at the minute :(
    Many thanks

    Hi
If you want to restore the notebook back to the factory settings you will need to use the Toshiba recovery DVD.
The notebook was not equipped with the HDD Recovery option and therefore only the booting from the Toshiba recovery DVD would set it to the factory settings and would reinstall the Vista OS.
If you dont have the Recovery DVD then you could order it from there:

  • Equium A100-027 - Missing driver for mass storage controller

    Hello,
after installing Windows 7 32bit, Multimedia Card Reader not working. All updates and drivers are installed, except mass storage controller driver, I can't find this driver anywhere.
    Please help
    Thanks

Try to install driver designed for A200 or A210. Maybe this will help. If not, who cares about card reader. Point is you can use Win7 and everything else works perfectly.
Disable this device in device manager and be happy.

  • Equium A100-027 - XP - Mass Storage Controller driver?

    Hi,
Re-installed Windows XP SP2 the respective laptop but one item in device manager is still crying out for drivers - 'Mass Storage Controller'. I seem to recollect seeing the iSCSI initiator when Vista was loaded, is this for the same thing. Where can I get the drivers?

Did you already check this document?

  • Cannot lower Critical Battery Level in Power Options

I am wanting to adjust the Critical Battery Level in Power Options to something lower than the default 7% that HP has set. When I try to change the number, it will not save and it just magically jumps back to 7%. This means that my laptop will hibernate when the battery level reaches 7% and I cannot turn it back on unless I plug it into AC power. 7% equates to roughly 40 minutes of battery time and I find this setting way too conservative.
I have done some research on this issue and have found the following:
Some suggest that PC manufacturers will somehow lock this setting to an arbitrary minimum and the user cannot change it to anything below this minimum (it appears HP have set it at 7% in my instance).
This link suggests using power.cfg and the command line to make the changes How To Lower the Critical Battery Level to 1% in Windows 7
Steps I have taken to try and resolve this:
I have tried the powercfg.exe method described in the aforementioned link to change the critical battery level to 3% and initially it appears to work. When I open up the Power Options screen, it indeed says 3%. However, when I actually test it out by using the laptop, it will still automatically hibernate at 7% battery level - it simply ignores the 3% setting.
I have also tried using powercfg.exe to change the Critical Battery Action to "Do Nothing" and likewise this setting is ignored and the laptop hibernates anyway.
I have phoned HP support and the only useful information that I got from them so far, is that the PC manufacturer has set it to 7% and it cannot be changed. They said they will escalate this matter to the research team and give me a call back.
I phoned Microsoft support and the consultant seemed to be confident that he could fix the issue but would not divulge the answer because he said that doing so would void the HP warranty and he didn't want to be to one to do that. He suggested that I call HP and request a conference call with Microsoft and they could then fix it. He seemed to be of the belief that if HP has set the 7% minimum that they should be the one to remove the limit.
If nothing works, I wonder if completely formatting the laptop (including removing the HP recovery partition) and then reinstalling a different Windows 8.1 (or Windows 7) will let me have full customization of the Critical Battery Level?
I would really appreciate your thoughts on how to fix this. It really fustrates me that HP thinks they know better and that the user needs to have 7% battery reserved - it is such a waste not to be able to utilize a battery to its full potential.

    Hi @Sparkles1 ,
There must be an alternative solution to this.
What is the reasoning behind HP locking this setting at 7% minimum?  I understand that a battery should not be run down to 0% as this will damage the battery but 7% is unreasonably high and in fact this does not conform with ACPI standard specification.  I refer to the following document: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn481320%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
In particular, please see the table where it says that the critical battery level must be set to a value between 0 and 5%
Can you please advise how to change this?  I believe this is a software related issue (specifically, the battery drivers).  Can you issue an alternative driver to install?  If you insist that it cannot be done, I will have no other option than to return the laptop and request a full refund.
