Low Beeping Mac--NOT at startup
I have a MacBook Pro, bought it back in 2010.
I've been travelling a lot in the last month, but have never dropped my computer or left it out of sight. I installed Java a few days ago while in China and am now in Malaysia. While I did notice the trackpad not working as well, nothing seemed wrong with my laptop.
Yesterday, it started to make low beeps, somewhat like a piano key being played. It occurred sporadically, sometimes playing 3 beeps in a row, pausing, then playing two more. Or a single beep would play, while other times about six beeps would go off.
The noise can be adjusted with my volume. I've shut down every app and still the beeps continued. I've turned off my laptop twice (no beeping occurred at startup), but they still continue to play today. I've run diagnostic tests and have never installed new RAM. The disk is not full and still has almost 100GB free.
Can anyone help?
Three beeps at startup means you have either bad RAM or bad memory slots. Reseat RAM or change RAM module could solve the problem.
Before that, you'd better run Hardware Test to consider which or both RAM module is/are bad.

When I turn on my computer it goes strait to a grey screen with the apple and starts a low beeping. The beeping does not stop so I rebooted it several times and everytime it turns back on, it starts to beep again.
What could be the problem?Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Note: It is possible that the SMC could encounter an issue that may cause unusual system behavior typically related to the symptoms described below. In some cases, resetting the SMC may be the only correct method to resolve the issue, however, an SMC reset should only be attempted after all other standard troubleshooting has been performed.
Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
If your Mac appears to be running normally but isn't responding, force the computer to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. Note: You will lose any unsaved work in any open applications.
For Mac portables experiencing issues related to the MagSafe power adapter and/or battery, try:
Unplug the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac and the wall power socket for several seconds.
Shutdown the Mac. Physically remove and re-insert the battery (if it's removable) and startup the Mac.
If the issue is still not resolved after following the troubleshooting items above, an SMC reset may be necessary.
After performing normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset may be necessary:
Fans
The computer's fans run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated.
Lights
The keyboard backlight appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have this feature).
The Status Indicator Light (SIL) appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have an SIL).
Battery indicator lights, if present, appear to behave incorrectly (on portables that use non-removable batteries).
The display backlight doesn't respond correctly to ambient light changes on Mac computers that have this feature.
Power
The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.
A portable Mac doesn't appear to respond properly when you close or open the lid.
The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.
The battery does not appear to be charging properly.
The MagSafe power adaptor LED doesn't appear to indicate the correct activity.
System Performance
The computer is running unusually slowly although it is not experiencing abnormally high CPU utilization.

When I open my iMac, I get the following message : Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. Then it says to quit applications not in usw and to close windows and remove files from startup disk. It lists Safari, email and Finder. I force a quit on all applications yet the same message comes up every time I open an application. What do I do to get rid of this once and for all? The computer is not even two years old and is only used for email and Safari. Help will be greatly appreciated,
The message has nothing to do with low disk space.
There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks.") The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details. -
I have a MacBook pro. After running the battery down, the computer won't turn on. It seems to cycle on but then makes low beeping noises and the battery indicator light blinks along with the beeps. I've had the computer charging for quite awhile. Any thoughts?
JeannepoUPDATE:
My computer now works but still has the loading bar at startup. Here is some advice for other mac users with the same problem. To get the computer to turn on again (but unfortunately still have the loading bar - you will need to fix this problem seperately) follow these instructions:
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer’s power cord and disconnect peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
This is called a SMC Reset and will hopefully get your computer back up and running (at least for the time being!)
Good luck to all those iMacers out there!

Office for MAC chrashes on Startup EXC_BAD_ACCESS
Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) 2011 for MAC chrashes on startup
Hi,
I am running Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro Early 2011. I had the latest version of Office for Mac installed when it chrased.
I really need some help to solve this problem. Suddenly, my office for MAC chrashes on startup. It applies to all office programs (Word, PowerPoint and Excel). When I try to start either up, Microsoft Error Reporting immediately shows up.
It is definitely worth mentioning that I also fiddled with the Microsoft User Data folder, which to my much annoyance places itself in the "Documents" folder on the mac and REFUSES to go away. Then I placed it in the library preference folder and it hasn't returned since, but the problem might or might not be related to that... Who knows. I think I did a lot of damage when moving that folder around. And I really think it is related to the problem.
I have earlier, leading up to this, experienced problems in connection to a file/document or something called "Normal"(??)
About two months ago. I removed Office for Mac and did a clean install. However the problem returned after about 6 weeks.
This is the report, I get. I need some help to understand what is wrong here and what I can do to solve it.
Thank you very much

Crashed thread: 0I too am having similar issues. I had Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac on auto update. The 2nd to last update (the latest update was ironically and error reporting update for Mac!) is what caused the problem as everything was working find until then.
Work, Excel and Power Point will load to about 44% and then crash. It appears to have also affected Microsoft Silverlight as Netflix will not play content on my computer anymore and says there is a DRM error (Digital Rights Management).
Here is there error log I get:

Please help. I've tired virtually every single blog fix and done several clean installs of the program with no luck and trying to get Microsoft to respond, let alone help, is impossible!!! -
My MacBook Pro keyboard won't type an upper case 'C' using the shift key... only with caps lock. Workaround has been to use Typinator by typing a double lower case c, not always the best solution. Mac is a refurbished model, which initially was fine. Apple tech helped me correct the quirk when it first appeared, but now it has returned and refuses fixes. Any ideas?
I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with iCloud. I've been facing a frozen computer nearly every time I go into it.
In Activity Monitor I have seen two programs associate with iCloud that take up about 2.5 GB of memory (I only have 4 in the computer) -- causing everything to freeze. One of these is called "iCloud Helper" and the other one is something like "Address Book Sync helper" -- I see parts of these names in the stuff you have posted.
I am at my wits' end with these and have written to Apple asking them to do away with these or fix them. To get rid of the Address book sync thing I have gone into system preferences for iCloud and unchecked Contacts -- but then spontaneously it gets rechecked. And oftentimes after I Force Quit the iCloud helper, it spontaneously turns on again. My conclusion --- the iCloud is basically unusable. It turns a Mac into the most useless, clogged, sluggish PC. If this is happening to a lot of people's computers -- and I see no reason why yours or mine should be an exception -- these programs just might destroy Apple itself.
So -- I'm about to completely give up on iCloud, and I suspect that others will too unless this gets fixed.
Cheers,

K8D Master-F High/Low beep tones
Hello,
Running the system even on bare minimum (PSU, memory and CPUs only) the board will not post and will only return a constant high then low tone beep code. Information from AMIBIOS suggests faulty CPUs, but this is doubtful that both CPUs would be damaged (I've tried one at a time, and in different sockets), as their serial numbers are quite a distance apart.
Anything else I can try? or do I have a dead board?
Thanks in advance,

4xGiel 512mb Dual channel ddr 3200 ram (even with all removed it gives the high low beep tones)
This board uses a SSI compliant PSU, its 24 pin main power, 8 pin additional power. 550W supply thats in it.

Couldn't tell you if its registered DDR, ram isnt the problem though, it would give a ram error beep code running with no ram onboard, yet it still has the high/low beeptones. -
Beep sound heard during startup
Am hearing a beep tone every 5 seconds when I startup my iMac computer. It is on macosx.
The last time I used it was when I was playing starcraftII and I shut down without removing the CD like I usually do. But this time when I startup the iMac does not boot up. I have tried resetting the SMC and it didn't work. I pressed down the mouse while startup and the CD didn't come out but I started to hear these beep tones, when I startup now. Thought it might be the memory card so removed them and tried starting up without them and then tried one by one and I still getting the beep tones, will I lose my hardisk as well if I keep rebooting too many times like this? How to get the CD out and startup the iMac properly?Check this out:

Some times my mac not getting shut down, some times my mac not getting shut down

it will show white scree for long time and will not shut downLaunch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the times of the log messages referring to boot times. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the time of the most recent boot when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time when you had the problem – the text, please, not a screenshot. For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time. If the problem is a crash or a shutdown hang, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down.
Edit out excessive repeats and personal information, if any.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search the archived log, and if necessary the older ones below them, for the same information.
Step 2
Do the same with kernel.log.
Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please do not post shutdownStall or hang logs – they're very long and not helpful. -
The full message reads as, "

"Your Mac OS X Startup Disk Has No More Space For Application Memory"
I've been having a problem in the last few days with my Mac. I would be surfing the net, or doing whatever, and an error message would randomly pop up on my screen. It would say: "_Your Mac OS X Startup Disk Has No More Space For Application Memory_". Then the dialog box would give me the option to PAUSE or *Force Quit* applications. But instead of letting me click these buttons, my Mac would just automatically freeze after the dialog box popped up!
The odd thing is, is that I truly was NOT using that much memory...much less than I usually do. Plus I have 4 GB of RAM, and I know I wasn't maxing it out.
Does anyone know why this error message would be popping up like this (especially since there was no way that I was using all my Application Memory)? And does anyone know why my Mac just freezes instantly when the error message pops up?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! It's quite hard use my Mac right now, since I never know when it's gonna freeze up on me!
Thanks!I assume that means no backups? That's a problem you need to fix next.
You might be able to start your Mac in "Target Disk Mode" while connected to the other Mac. You do this by holding down the "T" key while booting. And I was wrong: you must use Firewire, not USB.
The other Mac will see your HD as an external F/W drive. You may have to "mount" it via Disk Utility, if it doesn't show up on the desktop and/or Finder sidebar.
You probably need to do a lot of examining what's not needed, and perhaps some maintenance, but you don't want to do that under pressure.
To get it running and buy just a bit of time, your best bet is to copy some big stuff (like video) either to the other Mac's hard drive or to one or more DVDs, then delete it from your HD.
Once you get several GB free, you should be able to boot it. Then get started cleaning it up. There are many threads in this forum with links and suggestions for how to do this. Just search for +Disk Full.+
Did this happen all of a sudden? If so, it's possible you had some sort of runaway or continually failing process, filling up some logs and/or caches. If you don't do routine maintenance, either by clearing your browser cache, etc., manually, or via an app like OnyX, that's another thing you might want to investigate. -
Mac os x startup disk has no more space available for application memory
Suddenly over the past 2-3 weeks, first my iMac, then my Mac Pro both started giving me the pop-up error message: "Your mac os x startup disk has no more space available for application memory" offering for me to Force Quit open applications. Which does not work. Restarting temporarily helps, but the error will eventually return.
I have over 50% available in HD space on the iMac.
Also, I do not know if this is related, but the computers are running very slowly as well.
Additionally, before all of this, our Contact data, sync with Mobile Me, tripled in size with duplicates and jumbled messages.
Seemed like a cascade of failures beginning with contacts and ending with the memory error.
I have tried Applejack several times to no avail.
Any one have any ideas? Thanks.CMCSK wrote:

What about the Mac Pro? How large is your hard drive on both computers?
Problem first appeared on the iMac, then the MacPro starting giving the same error.
MacPro 999.5 GB total, 277 GB available
iMac 499.76 GB total, 214 GB available
"Your mac os x startup disk has no more space available for application memory"
Is FileVault enabled?
Never (unless it turned on itself)
have tried Applejack several times to no avail.
Have you tried using _Disk Utility from your install disc?_
From the HD, but not from from install disk. I will dig it out and try it.
Did you run Apple's Hardware Test?
Where do I find this?
Did you disconnect all peripherals except for the keyboard & mice while troubleshooting?
I did not since I am having the same problem on 2 different computers.
the computers are running very slowly as well.

Photoshop CS3 Mac: Crashes on startup?

Photoshop CS3 Mac: Crashes on startup?
Hi all!
I just today installed CS 3 Web Premium on my G5 (Dual 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.9, all updates installed). The install seems to succeed, and I've activated the suite, and all the other applications launch without a problem. But Photoshop doesn't. It shows the splash screen and gets as far as "Initializing Suites" when it drops off the face of the earth, and I'm prompted to send a crash report to Adobe (done).
I've tried restarting the Mac, re-installing just Photoshop, and even creating a new Admin user and trying it there, but Photoshop still crashes in the same place. So it's apparently nothing in my user account or just a randomly mucked-up install.
I did a search here for "initializing suites" but nothing came up, and even Google found just one other report of a CS3 crash at exactly that point, so a) it's not common, but b) it's nevertheless not just me. Hmm.
Has anybody seen this? I'm funkified...
PresRamón is exaggerating.
First: find the uninstaller in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and TRY to run it even though you already deleted the application.
If it won't DO anything, go to Macinosh HD/Users/your username/Library/Preferences and delete the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings folder (and its content) PLUS the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Paths file in same location, PLUS the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file in same location.
Then try to reinstall again.
If that doesn't work, run the cs3 clean again. Note that it is a script and that it asks you questions that you have to answer to and type in replies to for it to do anything. I fyou donät interact with it it won't do a thing. Note that it might clean out more adobe files than you would wish for.
There are instructions here
for how to unisntall the public beta of Photoshop CS3 but you might be able to follow those also for a non-beta. There are no instructions for manually removing Photoshop CS3 at the support center as far as I can see (on the other hand it is next to impossible to find anything on the support pages by doing a search.. search for Photoshop CS 3 for Mac and get articles about Illlustrator or CS...). -
I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.8 a few weeks ago. It seemed to be running OK, so we upgraded another system also. Now both machine are, from time to time, stalling whatever application is running. Everything stops or runs veeeeeeerrrrrry slowly for several minutes even including bringing other windows to the front. The disk runs almost like it is swapping a lot. Then the system frees up and runs normally for a while. This is not a startup problem. I occurrs on systems that have been running for a day or two or more. It happens on an iMac and on a MacBookPro. Neither of them had this behavior before the 10.6.8 upgrade.

What do you mean with corrupt?
Why did you suggest that I created a new profile?
There are cache files and other system files that are created every time a user account is created. Sometimes these are corrupted in the OS and it really has no bearing on the specific application but it can lead to erratic behavior. Creating a new user recreates all these system files and thus it's almost like starting fresh. It's one step shy of re-installation of an OS. So because changing the user fixed the issue, then we have eliminated the fact that the application is causing the error and we know the OS is causing the error.
I can't just go in to that profile when I want to use?
I wouldn't recommend it. This can lead to more problems with the OS down the road with other applications and depending on where the corruption lies it can lead to issues with OS upgrades or even installing new software. The files that are typically most critical to users are stored in the Applications folder or the Documents/Sites/Pictures folders. You can easily drag them over to a new user account. If you have email being backed up for a product like Thunderbird you can also bring over many of the Library items as well.
