Low bitrate in quicktime h264

hi,
trying to export a .mov with h264 codec with 30 000 kbps bitrate, but the highest result I get is about 20 000 (and for that I have to set 144 000 kbps in the bitrate settings). any idea why? is this normal or a bug in CC 2014.1? it doesn`t mater if I export from AME or directly from Premiere.
thanks for any help!

Glingfram1,
Does this happen during music streaming? If yes, you may check the signal quality or internet bandwidth status of your network source as this is a main factor needed to determine the streaming quality to be set by the application.

  • After effects cs5 - quicktime h264 very large file size

    hi,
I'm wondering if anybody can recommend a good quicktime codec for very small file sizes, for preview renders.
current project - my wmv renders are coming out around 10mb and reasonable quality which is excellent.
some of my clients don't have flip for mac so I need to render them a quicktime.
the quicktime h264 are coming out a lot bigger than expected. same timeline, pixel dimensions and frame rate = around 150mb and similar quality.
I thought in the past my h264 QT renders had been maybe double the file size of my wmv renders, not 15 x bigger.
am I missing something really obvious?
    pixel size = 1000 x 250,
    frame rate = 30fps,
    timeline = 4m 30s
    h264 quality = 50%
    audio = aac stero
using after effects cs5, win7 pro
    thanks in advance
    s

the size of the file is directly related to the bitrate at which you encode, not frame size or fps. So, if you want a 10s clip to be 15 MB (not including sound), divide 15 MB to 10s and you get 1.5MBps bitrate, or 12Mbps. You might get better quality if you encode 2-pass VBR with max bitrate set to what you computed previously.
Anyway, it's usually better to render your comp to some losless format (QT none, or TGA sequence, etc) then compress your clip with Media Encoder. This way you can play with the settings for H.264 until you get an acceptable result, without having to render from AE every time.

  • Convert to lower bitrate hangs on some songs

I recently had to restore an iPod classic. While syncing, I told it to convert all songs to lower bitrate (128 kbps). I've performed  this operation before without mishap, but this time, some songs appear to take MUCH longer to convert (on the order of day for an individual song). At the moment, it has restarted a sync, and it's working on song 5 of 18000. Songs 1-4 went at a normal rate, but song 5 has been working for 2 hours, with my processor (2 core i5 w/ HT) working at 300% on the iTunes process.
If I remove the song in question (something titled "Intro"), iTunes proceeds along, and hangs on another song in a similar manner. If I uncheck the requirement to convert to lower bitrate, the sync proceeds normally and all of the songs make it onto the iPod.
Is this a problem with iTunes 11? Or should I be looking at an issue with my individual files? My library is composed of a variety of formats, from 128kbps iTMS files to ALAC CD-rips. If I can avoid it, I'd like to avoid converting the whole library down to 128 or 256kbps AAC and then dealing with duplicates. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Dustin

I am experiencing a similar issue with a 5th generation ipod nano.

  • Converting into a lower bitrate improves video playback?

Hello, I heard if you convert videos into a lower bitrate you get more hours of video playback. If thats true, what settings should i set my videora to? Instead of the default one

Hello, I heard if you convert videos into a lower
bitrate you get more hours of video playback.
The subject of the post and content of your post are asking two different questions.
As for the subject... does lowering the bitrate improve video playback?
It depends what you mean by improve. Lowering the bitrate might make the video run faster/smoother/less choppy but it will also lower the quality of the picture.
As for the message in your post... does loweing the bitrate give you more hours of video playback?
Probably, yes. The size of the video file will be smaller, so you can fit more content on the iPod. Smaller file sizes mean less work for the iPod hard drive, wich results in better battery life.

  • Export to SD card for car stereo - use lower bitrate?

Okay, so my fancy new car stereo has an SD card slot, and the stereo reads a file structure so I can have folders for each Artist, and in that a flofer for each album, with MP3 files inside. I can see tha ther easiest way to populate an SD card is to copy the artist folders directly from the itunes music folder in Finder.
But... all my MP3s in iTunes are ripped at 192kbs, and to fit more on an SD card I'd like to use smaller versions.
Can't work out a way to do this easily. I can create lower bitrate verions using "create new version" but there are then stored in the same folders so I get two copies of each song. Can anyone sugegst a way of exporting a whole batch of songs (several thousand) to a new folder at a reduced bitrate?
    Or converting a batch?
Or suggest some other idea to create a reduced bitrate SD card without having to look at each MP3 file idividually (which all the solutions I've considered so far seem to need).

Still not quite achieving what I'm aiming at. I've found scripts to batch-convert an export, but the newly created files are then just 'loose' in folders and not nested as artists and albums. I've found other scripts to export with the file strucure intact. But not both.

  • How do I burn MP3 files to CD at a lower bitrate?

I'm a newbie to Mac and to iTunes, so pardon me if this is a frequently asked question. As a former user of Windows Media Player, I am used to being able to burn my MP3 files to CD at a lower bitrate (128) than what the MP3 files saved on my computer are (320). In WMP you tell it what bitrate you want the files encoded at, it then re-encodes them, burns them to CD and then deletes the re-encoded files from the hard drive.
Am I missing something in iTunes or is this not possible? It looks like I might be able to do each step of these steps manually, but I'm not quite sure how to save the converted files to a different folder than the originals. If this is not possible in iTunes, can someone recommend a program that will do this. Thanks!

You can easily burn them into artist folders onto the CD (which is not what you previously asked).
    Create the playlist.
Sort on Album or Artist and then burn it.
The songs will be put into Albums or Artists.

  • Edit in lower bitrate and export in higher bitrate

Is there a way i can edit HD movie in a lower bitrate for better workflow, and then when im finished edititing the movie, i can export the movie out in original HD bitrate.

    dont know, never did it...
I did edit one thing ONLINE..then switch the files to HD....in other words, I would maybe consider having your assets dv and hd separate..
edit the dv stuff online...like thats your project ....back it up, copies, etc...do your edit...
then when done dump the dv stuff, by moving your assets from one folder to another...swith them out...and if everyhthing is named exactly the same you should be able to just reopen the project and ( magic ) now you have the HD stuff there instead of dv..if your machine can handle it.
Then just export your final product from there and pray a lot.
Its not unlike what an intermediate FCP ( prores ) file does with footage...but in this case its not mac and not prores... but back it all up etc cause who knows what will happen when you switch out the files.
as far as size for dv goes, keep your apect ratio and frame rate and so on and do custom, desktop whatever ( anamorphic ) whatever you have to do to edit the real "final" product with the hd footage....you know?...do a small test first and see if it works OK, through the whole thing...including burning blue ray or deliver to whatever you need for final product... little test and see if it works...then go for it ( remember your machine capablilities ...or you'll have to transfer everything to external drives and bring to post house instead )

  • Quicktime H264 Crash

When I try to add a Quicktime H264 mov file, Premiere Elements 3.0 immediately closes without any error message.

You may not be able to use that file format for editing, Michael. Less-than-standard editing formats like that sometimes works and sometimes don't, depending on how your system is configured. But if, as Paul recommended, you've got the latest Quicktime and still can't do it, it's just not likely to go.
Though it might help to know where this file originated. It's not a typical file produced by a camcorder at all.
Regardless, your only sure cure is to convert the file to the more standard DV-AVI. You may be able to do this with the free video converter Super, but you'll definitely be able to do it with Quicktime Pro ($29 from Apple).

  • Playback of low bitrate flv or f4v from live stream in FMS causes player buffer to empty

We are experiencing a consistent issue when playing a low bitrate (300kbps or less) flv in a live stream from FMS.  Basically, the player will will start off with the appropriate buffer, say 5 seconds, then begin dropping until it empties out, and will have to rebuffer.  We've tried with a variety of flv and f4v files, all that are 300kbps or less, and we consistently get the issue.  Is this something Adobe can investigate in FMS?  Or are there any suggestions on how we can get around the issue?

  • Flash player not playing not playing properly low bitrate sound

    Hi,
I have created a flash audio player which can play streaming
audio (mp3) files and it takes data from external xml file.
Everthing is working fine. But when i used a low bitrate mp3 file
(size 600 kb, time 3min approx) , it plays the audio with max speed
and get ended in 30 seconds. The same audio file is playing
normally in windows media player, or winamp, etc.
Plese give me some idea what is happening ........
    Thanks,
    Gunjan

Flash can use either 8- or 16-bit sounds at sample rates of
11, 22, or 44 kHz (check this), or it may be that the mp3 is
encoded at one of the 'inbetween' bitrates.

  • Cloud vs. Local Files - is iTunes streaming lower-bitrate versions?

    Hello,
I wanted to wipe-out my entire music library and play everything off the cloud, in order to save space.  However, when I stream music, it sounds like iTunes Match is streaming a lower-bitrate version of my song. There's very little bass. If I click the little cloud icon to download the song, and then play the local version, it sounds great.
Anyone else notice this?  Is there a way to work around it?

    Hi,
I have been having similar problems as you. These problems began to raise its ugly head about a month or so ago.
I have found that using add to iCloud is not working. Constantly sticks at sending info and things work when I stop process then select update match. I have opted to use update option immediately after adding new tracks and seems to work most times.
However, I have been encountering problems recently when the process sticks with a few tracks still outstanding. I believe the problem occurs when the process has been interrupted and the tracks have partially been processed. To correct this problem, I have to open another library where I can see the music that's been matched or uploaded. The tracks causing the problem are greyed out. I delete those tracks and go back to my main library where the I cloud status is shown as "removed". I had previously tried to delete those tracks from my main library and readd them but this did not work because of the partially processed tracks.
I have previously been able to resolve most issues by holding shift (PC) / option key (Mac) whilst turning off match  then turning back on. Unfortunately I seem to be using this option more frequently recently.

  • Help - iTunes Converting mp3s automatically into VBR - Low Bitrate?

Hi Forum Members: New kid on the block. I've been very lucky not to have too many problems with iTunes.
I just placed several mp3s into iTunes via the folders/file selection. For some unknown reason it converted all those mp3s into VBR mp3s with a lower bitrate.
There is nothing unusual about these mp3s. Their bitrate is mixed at around 196 kbps to 256 kpbs.
I didn't use Import or ask iTunes to convert?
Any clues as to what is going on? Or how to fix the problem.
    Thanks, katydidit

    Hello CasperGemini:
In answer to your first question, no it didn't ask me?
My Preferences > Advanced Tab > mp3 encoder, good quality, 128 kbps
With iTunes changing the format to 114 kbps(VBR) at 44.100 KHz is quite close to the 128 kbps, however, it's rather odd that it would do it without asking (as you mentioned).
My idea was to keep the files at their existing kbps per second and then convert within iTunes using the "right-click" option.
I've also had problems with iTunes converting on import. If I take files/folder from my computer (not CD - already on system) and bring them into iTunes via the Import method (I've specified the importing size, etc.) it doesn't convert them to the specified encoding, e.g. m4a to mp3?? I end having to convert within iTunes (right-click).

  • Zen Xtra - low bitrate MP3s sound terri

I download a lot of mp3 speeches, lectures, etc. - i.e., all spoken word stuff (as opposed to music). Many of these files are fairly low bitrate (6KBS) in order to minimize space and make the downloads go faster.
These low bitrate mp3s play/sound fine when I play them on my computer (remember, we're talking spoken word, not music - I know 6KBS is too low for music to sound good). But, while they sound ok when played on my computer (in Windows Media Player), they sound like crap when I play them on my Zen Xtra (really slow and slurred speech, etc.)
The problem is not my car cassette adaptor since the same thing happens when I use headphones.
Is there anything I can do? I've never upgrade the firmware - might that help?
Or, would re-encoding these at a higher bitrate help - recognizing that I don't have anything better to start with than the 6KBS file I started with?

    JimG90 wrote:
Thanks for the good and prompt response. If I may follow up?
I never installed CMS - did it come with my Zen Xtra? To install it now, do I need either to buy it or to find my original CD (which may be hard) or can I download and install it free from the support website as a Zen Xtra owner?
I do have Windows Media Player and MusicMatch Jukebox Deluxe - will either of those do what CMS does?
CMS would have come with the player on the installation CD but you can download it from the website. When you install it you need to install the drivers first, then connect your player so that when CMS installs it will see that you have a device that entitles you to load the program. Then load the Zen Xtra plugin for CMS.
You can convert the files with WMP when you sync the files to your player - in the Sync settings there is a quality tab and you can choose to convert the files before transferring. I think it will only convert to WMAs though. If you have Copy Protect switched on in the WMP settings then the files will have DRM applied.

Well I'am embarrassed. This obviously "solved" the nonexistent problem. I encountered this low bitrate due to conky. (<- is this correct english?) ( http://i.imgur.com/moT6CJ3.jpg ) I watched this value a long time, assuming that it would never change. My fault was to believe that it's static, and as long as I am wired via Ethernet, there's no need for the wireless interface to do any action. The only problem was me, blaming intel for stuff I didnt know
Thank you WonderWoofy and Strike0 for starting me off.
    **EDIT**
Shame on me! I just stumbled upon a thread in which WW was telling me the same just 3 months ago. I should try this Ginkgo stuff

  • Messed up colors with quicktime h264 output

    Hello to you all,
Probably not the first time this is mentioned on the apple forum, but I still can't find a working solution for this problem:
Whenever I output a h264 file with quicktime, my colors are messed up.
I have a red car on video. It's red in the original AVCHD MTS file viewed with VLC, it's still red when converted to AIC with voltaic and viewed in Quicktime. But then it happens, exporting to h264 results in a red car with a light blue cast over it, it looks purple!. Both in VLC and Quicktime.
Tried colorsync filters, probably every existing combination, only makes things worse.
Tried to attach other color profiles with automator, only makes things worse.
    I have a wonderfull screenshot of this...hmm I can't attach pictures into this forum...or can I ?
Does anyone know why my car is red in the original raw footage, still red in the AIC file and NOT red but slightly purple in the h264 export.
    My settings for h264 output:
    Bitrate 24Mbps. Multiple cycles.

Wrong forum. This one is to support the FCS application COLOR. It isn't to discuss the vagaries of how your software interprets color information.
You will get better response by posting your question in the forum on this Apple site dedicated to the software you are using for the transcoding.
