Low budget lenses for amateurs

Dear Friends
I own a 600 D with 18-135 kit lens.
Recently I was suggested a 50 mm 1.8 in this forum. Big thanks for the tip. Really love this lens.
I want to expand my lens kit without rushing into big spends right now.
Request to recommend 2 more lens that can be really useful for amateur photography.
I have noticed the following
1. Although 50mm 1.8 is good , I find it difficult to us during events like weddings etc where moving closer physically is not an option always.
2. My kit lens 18-135 is good. But with zoom, aperture cant be opened wide. Blurring backgrounds become difficult with this.
3. For outdoor shoot , the kit lens is not good enough as the zoom is too small.
4. Please also recommend for any other occasions that an amateur photographer might need specific lenses and I might not have still figured out.
5. Most important - Want to constrain myself to maximum 2 more additions only to my bag.
6. Budget - Lower the better. A great recommendation eg. was the 50 mm 1.8. Works superb and at extreme low price.
Preferred budget between 150$ to 300 $ for each lens.
*** However, can increase budget if you feel any lens is critical and needs to be added to an amateurs bag.
7. I dont have any particular prefence for canon and open to look at all brands
Hope my query is clear and precise.
thanks in advance for the help

Wide aperture lenses are expensive & in a zoom more expensive yet so I don't think there's any way to fit that budget short of buying a used Tamron 28-75 f2.8. As for longer look at both the Canon 70-300 IS and Tamron 70-300 VC, new or used.

  • Low budget pc for HD editing

    Hello, I'am not a
film pro but working in the IT feld. A freend of me needs a new computer he uses WinXP AMD 64 3000+ with 512GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT (128 MB). He notice that it is not posible to edit / render HD data on his PC ;-)
So He would like to use Adobe Premiere + Encoder to work with HD Data and 5 tracks. Any Hints ? He is in student so his budget is limited. Is the vga card importan for editing hd data? Is it recommand to use Win 7?

The current CS5 version requires a 64bit computer and OS... Win7 64bit Pro works well
    My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to what I built
Do note that AVCHD is CPU intensive, so will edit OK without having a multi-drive RAID setup
Some other HD types are very disk transfer speed intensive, so require a RAID to edit
Go to the http://ppbm5.com/ benchmark page and then to the results page to see what various builds will do

  • 2nd low-cost camera for on-site shoots

I use the Panasonic HVX-200p for my studio work which is almost all green screen and usually shot at 720p30 or 720p60. I capture direct to my workstation using OnLocation CS4 via firewire.
Now I need a 2nd camera to capture on-site, outdoors mostly, but possibly some indoors. End use is educational DVD's and perhaps online courses, probably in H.264, so I don't need broadcast quality.
I need to go cheap on this because of my budget. I have little knowledge, but how about an inexpensive DSLR? My concern with these is that the codec is AVCHD [I think] and I've read about how this strains the PC requirements, is not easily digested (unless that's improved with CS6), etc. (see my Profile for workstation specs). Also, I'm not sure how it would look with the Panasonic keyed footage.
There is another option: carry a laptop with OnLocation CS4 installed and capture with it using the Panasonic. Granted, it is cumbersome and hinders in other ways, but it is possible. This choice, if acceptable, would require me to buy a laptop with a decent battery life (my existing laptop is an older, core 2 duo & the battery died long ago). I'd like to hear opinions on this because I don't know if this option would be cheaper than a new camera and/or give me better quality.
Anyway, I think you get the idea. I am most grateful for all recommendations. I am willing to consider used cameras, if that works.

P.S. I need at least one wireless microphone.

    Hi Paul,
Both my cam's are panosonic, and though a little above the one in question in terms of price range, i can give a little feedback on what is similar between them.
Apart from the dreaded AVCHD problems CS5 and early versions of CS6 had, you shouldn't have to much trouble with it.
    Both of my cams;
    AG-AC130
Panasonic AG-AC130 AVCCAM HD Handheld ... - B&H Photo Video
    & AG-AC160
Panasonic AG-AC160 AVCCAM HD Handheld ... - B&H Photo Video
use the dual SDHC cards, apart from making sure you copy the entire card, you will be fine. The file structure has to be completely intact otherwise timecode, audio and spanning clips will get messed up and cause you headaches.
My cam's are extremely good in low light, stomp all over the famed Sony Z7's of yesteryear. As long as your not shooting anything fast moving, if you need the light lower the shutter speed to 1/25 and open the iris right up you will get decent footage in lower light situations.
One thing you won't get in that model is the DRS function which is revolutionary to say the least, in a nutshell it supresses overexposure and boosts shadows.
In addition you'll have to xlr inputs so add wireless, or even a boom mic (much better price to quality ratio) with ease.
The GoPro's are amazing, but in my opinion totally sh*t in low light situations. People will argue that the newer models are much better, but I hate any grain. Another option with your low light requirements would be to add one of these Z96 LED, They are amazing for the size, easy to attach to a hotshoe, dimmable and unbelievably bright. Color temp isn't bad either, can be a bit cold\blue at full kick but has two magnetic diffusers ( i usually just manually change the temp in cam but lower budget cameras don't often have this function). Even doing an Auto WB would help to correct the temp.
Hope this helps you a bit

  • Great lenses for the Fs7

    Hi Guys,
I have been having this dilemma bout what lenses to use with my Fs7. I like the Metabones Speedbooster but I HATE the lag on the Iris when using Canon EF L lenses. I have a full set of Canon Cine Prime lenses for when I'm shooting work that has a budget to use them but this always leaves me having to use zoom lenses with an internal Iris on other shoots.
So I have been looking around for a set of lenses that won't break the bank with an external Iris, manual zoom and manual focus. The Sony 28-135 SELPH lens is an F4 lens and on the Fs7 is more like a 42-200mm so good for some work but not for other work, certainly not for handheld shooting. But I don't like the way the zoom works in manual mode and F4 isn't that fast really.
So I found this chap based in Scotland called the Lens Doctor. His website is www.thelensdoctor.co.uk and what he does is he takes Canon FD lenses and declicks the iris and then removes the FD mount and adds an EF mount! Fantastic! so now with my Metabones Speedbooster I can have a 35-105mm F3.5 lens that has an iris of F2! Or a 70-210 F4 which has an iris of F2.8! I also have a 20-35mm F3.5 that is like an F2 and great for handheld.
Now at this point I must point out to you that these lenses are NOT cine lenses they are adapted stills lenses so they don't have 300 degree barrel turns or .8 pinch teeth but I was just at Canon UK's headquarters in Surrey and I was able to use their lens projector and the lens engineer there said that they are more than capable of resolving a 4k image and that they where very sharp across the whole frame. I really like these lenses as you can tell. They are perfect for all that corporate, news and broadcast work that just won't pay for a Canon CN7 or Arri Alura. These aren't 'vintage' lenses and the glass in them is the same glass as you'd find in Canon EF L (MK1) lenses. If you have some Canon FD glass you can even send it to him and he'll declick it add what he calls a FVA to make the Iris smooth and then fit the EF mount!
I'm just waiting on a Canon FD 28-200 from him at the moment, which could turn out to be the perfect lens!
    Cheers
    Mark

Sounds like an interesting possibilty this FD-EF conversion job, I may well look into it. Would definitely be keen to see some real-world footage shot with your Vivitar zoom once you get it back from Scotland. As you mentioned your annoyance with the slow rate of adjustment of an electronic iris through the speedbooster, I thought I'd share a useful configuration tweak that I discovered the other day when trying to address similar frustration. Long story short, I've customised one of the assignable handgrip buttons (I chose 6, for middle finger activation) to be "Push Auto Iris". This way, if I need to do a rapid (and therefore probably significant/large) iris shift that would take a lot of wheel-scrolling, I just briefly press the assigned button, engaging auto-iris. The iris adjusts to the 'correct' exposure, and I then release the button and fine tune a stop or so either way if needed. It's been working pretty well for me - give it a go if/when you're stuck using an electro-iris EF lens. Cheers, jason

  • Low budget 4 cameras mixed live ?

    Hi,
I have a high budget solution to stream a live event mixed
from 4 cameras using the Sony Anycast switcher.
But I can't achieve a good alternative for a low budget
    solution...
I was thinking of high quality Pan/Tilt/Zoom wireless
    surveillance IP Cameras. Something like
    this
one. There is even a free software to switch from feeds but I
can't find how to make it work with FME... But it's possible that I
am searching in a wrong direction…
Does someone managed a complete low cost multi-cameras
solution and could guide me ?
    Thanks for your help !
    Paul

    Hi
Very interesting topic, since my company does exactly that:
for approximately the cost of an anycast (alone), we sell a 2 (ip)
    camera system live mixing system.
Please go check out www.ubicast.eu for more info (website
    still in french, sorry)

  • Accommodate structure changes in Budget Application for each year

every year our cost center structure changes to accomplish that we are creating New Budget Application every year . Cost center structure is divided in to Area then region and then csc. These Regions never stays under same Area they change it every year
can anyone suggest out a way to do it in only one Budget Application instead of creating new Application every year ?
How can we Accommodate structure changes in Budget Application for each year?
thanks in advance for the suggestions

Assuming the cost centers stay the same, and only the hierarchy of the dimension changes, it's really quite simple.
Export the level 0 data, clear the database, update outline, import the level 0 export file, agg database. You should now have the new totals.
All of this can be done in place without the export/import of data as well, but it is a good practice to export/clear db/import the data for defrag purposes.
Some things to consider, if the organization will want to compare year over year company totals...
    1.     They need to create some governance around newly inactive cost centers, usually you create some sort of "Inactive" parent in the dimension and when they are no longer active they need to be reassigned to this "inactive" parent. This will ensure that at least the company total stays the same.
    2.     Following #1, they need to understand that the year over year totals will may only be accurate at Company total (including the Inactive rollup) and at cost center.

  • Low battery warning for my iMac keyboard

I keep getting a low battery warning for my iMac keyboard even when it has brand new batteries. Is there a way to switch this off or reset it so that it doesn't keep informing me?

Hello! I also have this problem. My keyboard is brand new and so also the batteries. I have tried with different types of batteries but get the same warning. I also have tried to erase the device in the bluetooth settings and add it again. Nothing works. It is a pity because I like mac.

  • Budget check for purchase order

    Hi everyone!
We have NO problems with budget check for the SC. But when we create a PO and exceeds the budget no message are displayed. The only thing that happens is that the PO gets status "error in process". But if we change the PO (still exceeding budget) we receive a correct message. Is this a program error?
    Sincerely

  • Budget mandatory for earmarked fund

the funds managment module is made mandatory and activated. while accounting the expenses the system checks the buget avaialality and does not allow unitl the budget is available for a committment item.
i want to make the budget availablity mandatory even while raising the earmarked fund against the budget. i am able to raise earmarked fund even without any budget upload.
i want to know how to make budget mandatory for earmarked fund pleae.
    regards
    sathya

    Hi,
That's up to your update profile. Check whether earmarked funds are created as statistical updates; you can do it via OFUR transaction. Then, change it to be non-statistical for relevant value type (81, 65 or 82 - depending what earmarked funds - commitments or reservation - you are using).

  • Budget check for PO based on delivery

    Hi,
Can some guide how to configure budget check for purchase order based on supply schedule.
This could be that you have raised a Purchase order for 12 Quantity and the delivery of the same is at 1 per month for 12 months.Budget should  be checked for one quantity for one month and not based on Purchase order which is for 12 quantity.
    We are using Former budgeting.
    Regards,
    Gokul

    Hi,
I'm afraid you will have to create 12 items within the same PO and assign different delivery date to every one of them; then, the budget will be affected accordingly.

  • Budget removal for Internal Order

    Dear,
I had assigned budget to an internal order for year 2007.  But now i am trying to remove that budget using Tcode K026.  While selecting time frame system is giving error and asking me to select period only between 2008 to 2014.... Why this is so?
How to remove budget assigned for year 2007

    Hi,
I guess, your budget profile does not allow to touch budget 2 years after the current year. You can change the budget profile in customization (IMG - Controlling - Internal Orders - Budgeting and Availability Control - Maintain Budget Profile) and then modify your budget.
    Regards,

  • "Low-level" authorizations for accessing BW reports - add users to role

Using the advice in Topic "Low-level" authorizations for accessing BW reports, I have been able to publish a query to a role that has 3 test users and each user gets the same query but with different data, as determined in the tables.
Is there a way to look up the users and e-mail addresses from a table and associate them to the role? We have several hundred e-mail recipients that will not need BW access, but only need an e-mail with a static report that contains data on their own territories.

    Hi!
i think programatically it might be complex. You got to maintain a seperate variant of report per user and use this variant to send mail. that means you need to maintain a variant and a Broadcast setting per user. once maintained you can use it any number of times the values will be recalculated everytime.
    with regards

  • Are there lenses for Canon Legria HF M52?

I was wondering if there are lenses portable for the Legria HF M52?
I've been searching on the web for quite a long time, but can't really find what I'm looking for.
Every website that looks like selling lenses for the HF M52 seem rather untrustful.
I'm not looking for any particular lense.
    Can somebody help me?
Btw, I'm new here. So please excuse me if this question has been asked before.

I guess those programs are intented for outgoing connections, not incoming connections?
Well, anyways, I managed to solve the problem. Just summing up in case others meet the same problem:
    - Went to Apple Store and bought/installed "OS X Server".
    - Followed the install wizard for the OS X Server.
    - Under "FTP" in OS X Server, turned "On".
    - Under sys prefs/sharing; make sure "Sharing" is activated (which already had been done in my case).
    - Add folder, e.g. "Movies", and enable "read/write" for "everybody" (already done in my case).
    - Back to the OS X Server; changed share to "Movies".
(you can change share options in OS X Server as well, the same way as under sys prefs.).
    - Now over to the Canon camcorder;
         - Use the IP address for the Mac as the FTP server. Port 21.
         - Set up username/password as for the Mac admin account (not sure if required though).
         - Target folder just set to "/" (files transferred directly to "Movies").
With this setup, both AVCHD/MP4 movies were transferred easily to my mac.
