Low Buffer in ST02

Hi All,
Upon fresh installation of ECC 6.0 EPH7 and then I did a client copy, but upon checking ST02, it seems most of my buffers are low not close to 100 at all (Screenshot below).
I tried to play around with
rsdb/ntab/irbdsize
rsdb/ntab/entrycount
to tweak my initial records but still very low and does not seems to improve,
any steps where I should start beginning to troubleshot?
Thank you,
Regards,
Ura

Hello
HitRatio are not significant after a system restart.
Here you've got low ratio but few DB access, buffer HitRatio should improve with user activity.
1918603 - High swaps in transaction ST02
It is not possible to suggest a precise value for the buffer sizes. The sizes depend on the update
level, amount of data in the system, the applications used, etc. In general, the buffer must always be set
as large as necessary to avoid swaps.

  • Mbox With Logic, Can I Get A Lower Buffer Size Please?

I just bought an original mbox and I want to use it as a 2 track in/out interface with Logic. In order to get it to function I've been using the digi core audio manager. Using that manager has limited me to a high buffer setting. I am stuck at 512, and I would like to shorten that to 128 or lower. Does anyone know if this is possible? Is there some other way that I can get the mbox to function without using the core audio manager?

Logic;s mixer is so flexible that you can pretty much rig up what you want.
However, the traditional way to set up monitor mixes, if you really need different levels per channel (and not just stems), is to use pre-fade aux sends, and send those to a second set of outputs/busses, and adjust the send levels accordingly.
It might get a little more complex if you already have FX returns and stuff, because you'll need to make sure those go to the monitor mix as well.
For me, it's not worth the bother to set up a complete monitor mix for all channels. If I need to do it, it's usually to alter the balance for recording (say, more drums, less keyboards, more bvox), and I would just set up a second mix from the stems going to a second pair of outputs, and monitor from that - it's much quicker to set up, easier to control, and usually gives me what I need - your mileage may yada yada etc...

  • Low buffer hit ratio

    Hi all,
could anyone please let me know how I can improve upon the buffer hit ratio in Oracle 8.0
I have increased my buffer size by 40% in the init.ora parameters but there has been no gain at all in the buffer hit ratio after the system has been bounced and up by 42 hrs so could any let me know..
    Thanks

Why don't u try pinning the objects accessed frequently - even pinning tables are possible.

  • Lower buffer size

I just found out that I can use 64 buffer without safety buffer when using no plugins in the concert view.
I use Mainstage for playing guitar and I wondered why I can't use the same buffer setting, that I could use in Logic with the same channel strips.
I'm switching between 5 patches with GuitarAmp Pro basically.
After deleting the plugins in the Concert the performance became much better.

Channel strips at Concert level are always active, therefore always cost CPU load. That could push your machine with a 64 buffer size "over the edge". A similar situation are channel strips at Set level, which are active as long as that Set is active.

  • ST02 buffer history SQL table

    Hello
I am trying to find out which table in SQL the buffer history (ST02) data is stored?
    Please let me know.
    Thank you
    Ken

    Hi dude!
Clas Hortien's advise is simply great, as it will be useful not just to guess the tables you need right now but also in the future.
Just to help you in case you are not familiar with ST05: when you are reading the trace, you can summarize times in order to get it simpler and in a easier format to read (not just chronologic): go to the menu "Trace list" and select "Summarize Trace by SQL Statement (Shift+F8)". Under the column "Obj. name" there are the names of the tables read.
    Cheers!!

  • ST02 SWAPS are more

    Hi,
Iam new to db tuning . My system shows more SWAPS when i go to ST02 .
System slow down performanance.SWAPs are showing more.
Any idea how to resolve this.
    Thanks
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,
Lars is very correct. There may be some reasons as
told by Lars.In order to solve this problem u can follow
        these steps.
1)Send a session data to SAP by executing tr code "SDCCN"
or "SDCC".On the basis of this session data SAP will
send u a Analyzed Early watch report.
In which u can check whether some programs are
        being swapped frequently.
Another reaSON may be low buffer space.
For this u can increase the size of buffer.
You can check programs responce time by urself by using
        Tr code ST03.
      Hope this will help you.

  • Clicks and Pops in Audio even with High Buffer Values

    Dear Community,
I'm running into a problem with my Mac Pro 2008 for which I need urgent help.
I have a Mac Pro 2008 which I use to do some audio production and mixing.
I use 10.8 Mountain Lion for some time now, mainly with Avid Pro Tools 10 and Logic Pro 9.
My audio interfaces of choice are the Echo Audio Audiofire 8 and an Eleven Rack (USB) which I never use simultaneously. For tracking guitars and bass I use the Eleven Rack but for mixing and adding other instruments I use the Echo Audio because of its multichannel capabilities.
I had this configuration for many months / years without any kind of problem and being able to use very low buffer values (128, 64 and even 32 bits) with very low latency values (ideal for tracking guitar with software monitoring).
Now I'm running with problems with audio clicks and pops in all audio streams independently of the audio interface I use.
I've tried every tip I found on the web for optimizing my mac for audio with no success.
Independently of the buffer I establish in Pro Tools or Logic (or any other audio software, for that matters) I always get the same harsh, distorted audio, with permanent clicks and pops. It's the same with pre-recorded audio or when using just an armed track with software monitoring. Even when using just Amplitube 3 in standalone mode, I can't get audio working correctly. Raising the audio buffer to 4096 (!!!) or lowering to 64 is the same. The output get garbled, distorted, harsh, with permanent clicks and pops (on the Audiofire or the Eleven Rack).
I've already tried reinstalling drivers, mangled with all audio preferences possible with no success.
I'm considering, as a final option, to reinstall the OS and all audio software from scratch but this is the very final possibility because of the long long hours needed to do so.
Does anyone have some idea about this?
    Could anyone help me?
    Best Regards,
    Luis Mota

Luis, the sound you're describing does not sound like a clock problem.
    Sync set to "Internal"
To check you can go to Settings/Synchronization  uncheck "Auto Enable external sync".
I'm guessing like most Mac users you have the operating system set to auto update, if so the system may have updated on it's own so you can't be sure you're running the same system that worked perfectly in the past.
I disable every "auto" b.s. Apple/OSX tries to force on users... for pro audio users, it generally causes problems.
    Here's some things to try.
    1. Set the Mac's audio preferences to use only built-in audio for both recording and playback. Do so in both System preferences/sound and Audio-MIDI Setup.   Turn off the Mac, unplug and audio interface you have hooked up. Restart the Mac, Plug in an audio interfaces (doesn't matter which one) open Logic, go to Preferences Audio and select the installed interface, even if it's selected already, set buffer to 256.
    Any difference?
    2. Create a New User account and try running Logic from there.

  • Kontakt 4.1.1 and Logic 9.1.1 needs Max buffer

I posted this on the NI forum too.I have 1 instance of Kontakt 4.1.1 in Logic 9.1.1 64bit with only 4 sounds loaded and have to set the buffer to Max 1024 otherwise all I get is clicks and pops on playback. The strange part is,when I first loaded this kontakt patch, it ran great with a buffer of 128.I left my computer for a couple hours and when I returned and hit play, everything was glitching out. When I bypass Kontakt, the song plays fine at a low buffer setting.when I run Kontakt, I get one of the CPU meters in Logic hitting red.Kontakt shows very low RAM and voice usage and I have 8 GB of RAM in a Mac Pro 2.66 Duo core.I have tried Logic in 32 bit mode, enabled Kontakt memory server, reloaded a blank Kontakt then loaded the patch.switched between Digi 192 (core audio) and Motu 828 MKII,rebooted, repaired permissions. The only way to get smooth playback is to set Logic's audio buffer to 1024 which makes it virtually impossible to play a part in real time.I know this isn't right as it was working fine at first.Any thoughts?

    Hello -
I have a similar set-up (noted below, with Mac OS X 10.6.4). I'm still experimenting with different configurations. Currently, I have Kontakt's memory server (don't remember its official name) engaged when in 64-bit mode (both Kontakt 4 and Logic Pro). On one project, I have a total of about 32 instruments in use including ones from Kontakt and EXS. All is well.
Now, it's my understanding that when in 64-bit mode, one doesn't need to use Kontakt's memory server. Have you tried either engaging or disengaging the server?
Also. . . I'm using MOTU's 2408 MK3. As far as I know, its drivers are updated to the latest ones. This also may be helping me out. Are the drivers to your audio drivers the "latest and the greatest"??
Finally, is your OS updated to 10.6.4? Your Info currently indicates that your using OS 10.6.3. (Don't know if this makes any difference.)
It's interesting how people can have similar set-ups with differing results.

    hello
you will find some help here : [Online help about buffers|http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/c4/3a6e98505211d189550000e829fbbd/frameset.htm]
"When a buffer has insufficient freespace or free directories, it has to swap objects out of the buffer in order to load a new object. The column Swap shows how many objects have been swapped out since system startup."
This means that you have to increase the size of the buffer to avoid swapping.
To find the relevant parameter (in RZ10) for a specific buffer => transaction ST02, double click on the buffer and then click on the button "Current parameters". Here is/are the parameter(s) to increase (be careful of some parameters ... your system can crash or not restart !)
After saving & activating the profile in RZ10, perform at os level the command (under <sid>adm) : sappfpar check to fix the memory problems.
    Hope this will help you

  • Swaps on program buffer

    Hello all,
I am trying to figure out why we started having many swaps in program buffer on ST02 and I found this on history that is quite strange.
It appears that Free storage is bigger than available storage!! Few months ago that we had the same issue, we started having again hundreds of swaps on this buffer. Could someone explain what this Free storage shows and probably suggest how to find the root cause of the issue?
    Thanks!

  • Buffer Size and Latency

I knew the 2 might be connected but I recently read some information which confused me. I thought a larger buffer size was good, but I've just read that increasing the buffer size lengthens latency. Can anyone enlighten me on the relationship between these; just simple answers, please.

Audio is sent through the system in chunks. Chunks of the buffer size. Buffer size is measured in samples so a buffer setting of 256 samples rewquests and provides audio in 256 sample packets. As a real time application, this cannot be predicted so the buffer reads from the present/past as opposed to looking ahead of time. The chunk will be handed off to CoreAudio that much ( time ) later, in comparison. So...
Larger buffer increases track/plugin count since you allow the computer more time to manage it's tasks.
Decreasing allows for less total system throuhput ( = less latency ).
Many people have found a good balance for this ( if they need to dynamically alter system resources ) to be:
Low buffer size while recording, for minimal latency
Then increase buffer for mixdown, allowing more pluggies and tracks.
Your latency setting is also dependent on your audio hardware and system busses. So, a good interface and driver on a dedicated FireWire bus can allow you to decrease your buffer setting.

  • What specifically does the "I/O Safety Buffer" do?

In Logic 8, in the preferences under audio there is a new box you can check that says I/O Safety buffer. It seems to enable use of logic at lower buffer rates. Whats it doing and how? the manual says nothing about this feature. It must have been added after the manual. I can get the buffer down to 32 when its checked. but if I strum my guitar over and over, after about 30 seconds there is a dropout, not a pop or click, but all sound stopping for a second then everything is fine again. Is this the down side of using this new feature?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    This is what it does:
When you set the buffer to, for example, 11 milliseconds maximum latency, then any track that has plugins inserted in it, who have a total latency of LESS than 11 mS, operate NORMALLY.
Any track that has plugins that add up to MORE than 11 mS, then Logic automatically turns OFF some of the plugins, until it reaches the 11 mS or less maximum latency.
This is so that when you are playing live recording into Logic, you do not get a large latency that can throw off your playing.
I think what you're describing is the "low-latency" option.

  • Db buffer 9i

    Dear all,
We are running 9.2.0.4 on Linux RHEL ..
As per the satspack report, we are facing low buffer hit ratios , The number of dirty buffers are high. So, we are increasing db_buffer_Cache and the current dbwr_io_slaves is set to 8 and db_writer_process is set to 1..we are planinng to increase db_writer_process to 8...but, if dbwr_io_slaves is already set ,then we should not increase the value of db_writer_process
    Is it so ?

You can't set multiple I/O slaves and multiple database writers at the same time. It's one or the other. Since IO Slaves were an early invention to overcome problems of systems that couldn't handle async writes it's likely that multiple database writers would be more appropriate. However, check Kevin Closson's blog for discussions on configuring these two features - start at http://kevinclosson.wordpress.com/kevin-closson-index/general-performance-and-io-topics/
I note that you have said nothing about performance symptoms such as "free buffer waits" that might suggest you have an I/O problem - a low "buffer hit ratio" is a meaningless indicator when it comes performance, you need to find where you are doing excess work and losing unreasonable amounts of time.

  • Why a 5 second RTMP h264 buffer on my Transformer Prime?

I've got a 'live' streaming service that is working very well using Flash or Air on Desktops. I'm able to set netStream.bufferTime to 1.0 seconds and that's what I get in flash player.
When I package the same app for android and deploy it to my Transformer Prime (running Honeycomb since h264 appears to be broken in ICS), I always get a 5 second buffer. This is a show stopper for me since I am receiving commands from the user and updating the video feed. One second latency is ok, 5 is a no go. No matter what I do, I cannot get the Prime even to try and play with a lower buffer setting. I've tried setting netStream.bufferTimeMax = 1.0, but that has no effect. Is there some sort of a hard lower limit on buffer time in Air for Android?

I have added a bug to the bugbase requesting that Adobe upgrade the Netstream for Androids to support the bufferTime property.

  • GB with Digidesign 002r Custom buffer setting?

I'm using GB 08 with my Digidesign 002r firewire interface and attempting to get a lower latency audio monitor setting. GarageBand allows 2 settings in the Audio/MIDI tab. One setting is called "Minimum delay when playing live instruments" and always sets the 002r buffer to 256 samples. This is pretty good, but I can still hear a very slight delay. The other setting is called "Maximum number of tracks" and sets the 002r buffer to 512 samples. This induces a noticeable delay and is virtually unusable for recording live audio.
My question is, is there any .INI or preference file for Garageband that I can tweak to try an even lower buffer setting (say 128 samples) for my audio interface? My Intel Santa Rosa CPU is barely taxed on the 256 sample setting so I would think I have a little bit of headroom. Also, the Digidesign Core Audio driver does not allow manual adjustment of the buffer when the 002r is slaved to GB so I'm thinking I need a way of changing the setting from GB. Any ideas?

    Hi, Gary,
My question is, is there any .INI or preference file for Garageband that I can tweak to try an even lower buffer setting (say 128 samples) for my audio interface?
No, sorry. That's one of the limitations of GB. You need at least Logic Express to do that.
