Low contrast/dark monitor after installing screensaver (Resolved)

Immedietly after installing this http://screensaver.com/download.cfm?id=2219 screensaver my monitor has darkened and has very low contrast, it's now difficult to read dark text on a light background. I've tried a system restore, performed all the tests I could with "checkit" (all passed) and Symantec (usual minor errors) but to no avail. The monitor itself seems to be performing normally, the on light is a steady bright green and the dialogue boxes for adjusting the settings look normal. I've tried turning down the display settings but that has made no difference either.
My system is as follows: XP Home (with all patches and upgrades), MSI NX6600GT (DirectX 9, Nvidia driver 8.1.9.8), Foxconn NF-CK804 motherboard (nvidia 42302-e31 bios), AMD 3000+ cpu, 1024Gb RAM and Dell P991 monitor.
Any help gratefully recieved.

But I don't know how.
I decided to try another monitor and borrowed one from a neighbour. It worked fine, when I tried with mine again so did it. No idea what was wrong but I'm glad it cleared up.
The problem and the screensaver installation could be purely coincidental I suppose but it happened exactly at the moment the screensaver started for the first time.

  • Darker monitor after Yosemite install?

Has anyone experienced a darker screen on an iMac after upgrading to Yosemite?

Not me, but if you are having this issue try turning up your brightness, or visiting the "Displays" pane of your System Preferences. You can also go to the "Accessibility" pane, then go to the "Display" section and check "Reduce Transparency", which makes everything more white. You should also go to the "General" pane and (if checked) uncheck "Use dark menu bar and Dock".

  • How to fix three monitors after installing latest Mac update?

I installed the latest release, OS X 10.9.3 (13D65), and now my three monitors are all messed up.  I tried going into sytem preferences and looking at the monitor set up there, but nothing helped.
When I move my mouse, I never know where it is going to show up, and it does not move properly from one screen to another.

Try this: download and retrofit (force install) QT 7.1.6 using Pacifist, then run the 10.4.10 Combo Updater for Intel Macs. Make sure it is the "combo" updater. Be sure to restart in safe mode after using Pacifist and then install/re-install the combo update (while in safe mode). For all those "non-techie" people (like myself), please try this if you already haven't and please read the instructions for Pacifist - if you use Pacifist correctly, it will ask you if you want to replace (vs. update) all of the Quicktime components (yes, you want to replace), so you will know that you are accomplishing what you need to. The first fix I tried was just to reinstall the Mac OSX10.4.10 combo update for Intel Macs and this did not work, but when I used Pacifist and then reinstalled the MacOS X combo updater (do not get this confused with the update that is not the "combo" one- (use the links), it worked! I am not a web developer, so did not have to deal with the Java 6 stuff.

  • Displaying to the monitor after installing via serial console?

    Hi Guys,
We have a couple of X2100's and a dell sc1425. All were installed using null-modem cable to the serial port which worked fine. However, now I want the servers to boot and display to the monitor and use the keyboard for input. I've got 06/06 installed and it doesn't have any mention of output-device or input-device in the bootenv.rc file and makes no difference if I change output-device to 'screen'. Do I need to do the Xorg -configure @ single user mode?
    Cheers,
    Russle

Just a thought, but try zapping the PRAM. Good luck.

  • VPN DNS (no clients) not working after installing SL; resolver w/ no domain

Unfortunately, Snow Leopard has broken VPN DNS (thanks go out to Apple's QA department).
I've tried several methods of "fixing it", but I end up seeing the following issue (output from scutil --dns):
    DNS configuration
    resolver #1
    domain : xxxx.cc
    nameserver[0] : 192.168.0.1
    order : 200000
    resolver #2
    nameserver[0] : 10.0.2.1
    nameserver[1] : 10.0.2.2
    order : 100000
Notice how there is no domain on resolver #2. No matter what I do, I can't get one to populate. So, requests to my VPN domain never get to the correct DNS servers and my connections fail. I've tried manually specifying DNS servers and domains for the VPN connection, but the domain still doesn't populate. I've also tried removing all files under /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and rebooting, however that only resolved an earlier issue with simply connecting to the VPN endpoint.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to populate a domain name in my second resolver?

I Hope someone can figure this out. I too an having a similar problem. Its been a three fold issue. First it took me 3 days to install Snow Leopard (Disk kept ejecting during install), but once I got past that (with help from this forum) I got it installed. Once installed SL broke my internet connections. Network preferences said I was connected to my router and online (Skype showed I was connected), but iChat and Safari wouldn't connect. Again I was able to find a work around (not a true fix) on this forum which was, I had to move my system config file to the desktop and reboot, forcing the mac to create a new system config file for the internet. Now it would connect to my router and get on the internet. It did this like I was a brand new client connecting to my router. I had to re enter network key etc. Again internet is now working, however all my network profiles were gone. this now leads me to the 3rd and unresolved issue. I go through and reenter my settings and things seem to work until I get to the VPN. I use the standard PPTN VPN connection and enter my settings exactly the same as before. and it appears to work. It connects with my server, but not my compant "Intranet" Its accepts my company DNS and search domains but does nothing with them. I can't view anything internally. This exact same setup worked flawlessly in 10.5.8. Am I missing something or did I do something wrong? Please help. Need to access company resources or I will have to downgrade back to Leopard.
    Thanks,
    Nate

  • External monitor no longer works after installing iLife '09

Before, the external monitor (Apple Cinema HD display) connected via DVI to Mini-DVI adapter was working fine. However, after installing iLife '09 and restarting, the iMac will no longer detect the external display attached to it. I even tried installing a different (but same model) display but it still will not detect.

I'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system.

Any one or a combo may help
Give your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home  keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
    Try a different USB cord
    Try a different USB port
    Try rebooting your computer
    Try closing/opening iTunes.
If you go through that and it doesn't work, try going into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support. Then redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again

  • Monitor calibration problems after installing windows 8.1

I have a hp envy m6-1105tx and right after installing windows 8.1 my monitor changed completely.
When i have a photo open in photoshop tones, colors luminosity, gamma etc are all wrong. Before i never had problems, when i looked at a photo in photoshop and i will see the photo on a different screen it would be basiclally identical but now the photo in photoshop is much different than the actual photo, and this doesn't apply only to photoshop but to everything. I already try to do the calibration through the control panel but it didn't improve the situation, is there a way to get the screen back to the way it was before?
    Thanks

I checked for an updated driver for the video, but there is none for Win 8.1.  Therefore, I suggest installing the original driver for the video to see if it helps.  It may be that it was corrupted during the update process.

After installing 10.9.2 the resolution in the monitor has been downsized to 4:3 (and 1280x960) instead of its 16:9 display. Anyone know how can I change the resolution manually?
Display shows only 3 different resolution if I choose "scaled" but none use the full area of the monitor.

This has been an ongoing problem with external monitors that predates 10.9.2. I wrote various tips on different methods here, though the best is probably the hot corner one:

  • Low Signal Strneght after installing 6.0.2 update

    Hi,
I am recieving low signal strneght after installing 6.0.2 update.Any fixes ? or anybody

Oops I meant cellular w/o the data.
You can try doing a reset, hold down the home/power button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
if that doesn't help then try - settings - general - reset - reset network settings.
if that doesn't help, then contact your phone carrier and see if they can help.

  • After first restart after installing Mavericks the system can't identify the internal MacBook Monitor anymore

I am writing this using an external monitor in the office from my MacBookPro 8,1 (April 2011). After installing the upgrade the monitor worked fine. After shutting down the system and restarting it the next day the apple sign was shown for some seconds, then - I assume this was the time when the operating system was was finished loading, the screen went black and stayed that way.I the attached screen shot one can see that only one external monitor is identified (sorry for the german language). Anyone has any idea what to do except downgrading using time-machine? this is what I am about to do. thanks for any help or ideas!

The auto-conversion to core storage is not a bug anymore than the automatic drive encryption during the Setup Assistant unless you pay close attention. Apple is giving you the push into the future of OS X.
Furthermore, Apple does not really support Linux, ESP, or rEFInd. Windows is only supported via Boot Camp on a drive that has only one extant partition - OS X. The consequence of this is that Apple will not test this other configurations for any compatibility with OS X. We may not like that but it is what it is.
I am quite familiar with configuring multi-boot volumes like yours, so please don't call me a fanboy because I don't see things all your way.

    Hi applecore_eater,
When Leopard came out, machines were shipping with Tiger for 3-5 months after it's release. So the fact that you bought a machine with Leopard still installed is not uncommon, especially considering we're not even a month into release. Matter of fact, I'd be surprised to see a lot of machines (unless CTO) that are coming with Snow Leopard.
The battery issue is not specific to Snow Leopard or the MacBook Air. I've deployed SL to about 15-20 MacBook Airs and all of them have been perfectly fine (batteries).

After installing iTunes 10.4.0.80 "file" "edit" etc items from menu bar at top right corner disappeared -when cursor is put in that spot a darker rectangle appears - similarly tabs for syncing iPhone are invisible- and similarly small ovals appear when cursor is placed where tabs should be.

Very many thanks to you, Putaro!  Your answer provided the solution. It was a buggy plug-in that turned out to be the culprit.
You're off the hook, Apple, and my apologies for stating that you let a dog run loose. You skated by this time, Apple. But I'm watching you.
But again, Putaro's reference to the plugins I had installed over the years turned out to illuminate the problem. I have several plugins in my iTunes plugins folder, pretty much all designed to add more visualizer functionality. I removed all of them, and ALL of the problems I noted in my post went away, with full iTunes functionality restored.
I began adding the plugins back to hopefully single out the culprit. Among the ones I had been using included fielder, G-Force, Timestrech, volcanokit, QuartzComposer, and Jax. I hadn't used any of them in a while - probably at least a verison or more back in iTunes updates, but iTunes continued to work with all of them installed. Currently, only QuartzComposer continues to work in iTunes 10.4. The rest no longer even show up as visualizer opitons, with one exception. Jax does show up, but does not work. AND THE PRESENCE OF JAX IS WHAT KILLED MY ITUNES.
I looked into it and went back to the developer, and it appears that they discontinued developing Jax some time ago - evidently, it was buggy and crash prone. I remember after buying it, having problems with it - having never worked to its touted potential, but I didn't pursue it, and never uninstalled it. Leaving it in there caused all iTunes functionality to cease with the iTunes 10.4 update.
If you've got Jax installed, consider removing it before updating to iTunes 10.4.
My iTunes is now working right as rain, thanks again to Putaro!
