Low Contrast Issue

Folks,
I currently own a Canon T2i DSLR, and just purchased a Powershot SX280.  I noticed in two of my recent outdoor pictures with the new Powershot SX280, I got low contrast shots in auto mode.   Basically, the pictures have a hazy, grey look to them.  On one of my shots, I re-took it 3 times (pool area shot), and still the low contrast, since it was obvious on the image display on the camera.  The 2nd shot, I didn't notice it, till I downloaded on my computer.  In both cases, I had no intention of shooting a low contrast picture.  One of pictures (pool shot) was sent to the virtual trash can, since I re-took it with the T2i without the low contrast issue, the other picture (ping pong) I repaired in Adobe photoshot by adjusting the contrast.  This was very mysterious to me, since I've only experienced this with my T2i, when I get some bright sunlight coming into the lens.
In both shots with the Powershot SX280, I didn't spend any time to see what "mode" it detected for the shot, and just took a quick point and shoot to capture the moment.  Anyone have any idea what might have happenned.  Here is a description of the photos:
1. Two children in the pool with a light color deck with plenty of sunlight reflecting off of the deck and water.  Some water movement in background.
2. Two children playing ping pong in a shaded porch area with a window behind them that had little sunlight reflection on it.
In both cases the children are in focus, so I've got the focus correct, but I think somehow some other factors threw off the camera and led to the low contrast.  The ping pong shot would probably have been better suited by speeding up the shutter speed to catch the ball without a blurr, but the shutter speed was fast enough that the kids were not blurry even with their hand/body movement.
Any hints?
Greg

If you could post up pics, that can help with a diagnosis.

  • Quicktime exports are washed out, low contrast

    Hey-
This sounds like a classic gamma problem, but i don't know where to look to fix it. Basically, my edit looks one way, but when i export the quicktime of the timeline, playback in quicktime is washed out, drab, low contrast, and has less saturation than it does in the edit in FCP.
Anyone know how best to address this? is this a gamma issue IN FCP? I expect, when export my quicktime, that playback in the quicktime player and on other computers (i've looked at it on a windows machine as well) will look the same way it does in my FCP edit, and it doesnt.
    Help, and thanks!

    Chris
afraid you are mistaken, looking at the file on a PC will be quite different to looking at it on a mac and I am thinking this may be where your issues start.
(Sorry if the following is sucking eggs)
Go to your display preferences/color and check what is set there, return to a default profile or even better calibrate your displays. The way QT displays a files is different to the way FCP does, (citation needed). Also typically a mac is set to a gamma of 1.8 whilst a PC is set to a gamma of 2.2. This used to be a real problem creating mpg1 content for PC's, had to create a gamma setting specifically for display on a PC. I must admit that I am now creating wmv's, (Flip4Mac) for insertion in Powerpoint and corporate web and gamma is no longer an issue.
As you said classic gamma problem, also try using one of the prepackaged compressor settings with no tweaking.

  • Bug: Letterbox effect gives unwanted high brightness and low contrast

When I apply the Letterbox effect, it looks good in the preview, but the result is a barely visible clip, all whited-out, letterboxed but with extremely low contrast and high brightness (applied to the whole screen, including the black letterbox bars). Some other effects, like Fog and Aged Film, produce the same unwanted results.
    What's going on?
I am using iMovie HD 6.0.2 on a MacBook. Any help is appreciated.

Yes my particular issue is not like yours. However, there have been many other laptop users experiencing similar problem to yours after 3.10 kernel. Mostly it seems to be bumblebee users that experience your problem with the blank screen. We do know that nvidia have yet to make their official drivers work with kernel 3.10 and up. The drivers in the Arch repository have been patched to work with 3.10. From what I have seen, this also only seem to be affecting laptops with newer nvidia gpu's. I fear there is not much to do with this problem until nvidia give official 3.10 kernel support.
My suggestion would be to stick with 3.9.9 kernel and the drivers that work with it, and don't upgrade those packages until nvidia has addressed these issues. If you have a look at the nvidia forums you will see quite a number of topics mentioning black screen when starting x on 3.10 kernel, and also a thread for the system dying. Reading some of the threads there may help you keep up to date on whether or not the issue seem to be solved.

  • TV out low contrast problem with Tiger

I just recently upgraded to Tiger and went straight from 10.3.9 to 10.4.5.
My mini-DVI to TV adapter has always worked perfectly before, but now the display on my TV is very dim, with extremely low contrast and brightness. The TV is recognised correctly and all the settings, color profiles etc. are correct.
I have verified that this is strictly a software issue as booting from 10.3.9 fixes the problem, and the output to TV is bright and beautiful once again.
I've searched, but found no mention of this particular problem anywhere. I would love to find a solution as the TV out from the PowerBook is basically broke, and dragging the external FW drive to the TV to boot from 10.3.9 is not a practical option.

Thought it wouldn't do any harm to run MacJanitor - but it didn't do any good, either.
This continues through restarts. It is definitely local to this one machine as another Mac does not show it.

  • DVD's burning low contrast

Why are my DVD's burning in low contrast (with a lifted pedestal/black level)?
The contrast is higher when viewing the movie on Quick time and iDVD player.
    Any thoughts? Drive? DVD's?
    I'm using Maxell printable DVD's.

That indicates a conflict or corruption in the original account. To resolve that is laborious and time-consuming. While logged into the newly created admin account, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option, recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly.

  • Hard To Read, Low Contrast Fonts

I have a problem: my system is showing me hard to read, low contrast fonts.
Here's a screenshot to prove it:
As you can see, the fonts are quite greyish instead of black. I tried the freetype2-lcd method as described in the wiki "Fonts" article. Still no success. I'm running XFCE on a 1680x1050 LCD display. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Bender02 is right -- openoffice adjusts its own colors to match the colors of the gtk theme by default.  The easy solution, for openoffice, is to go to Tools/Options/Appearance and set the background color to white and font color to black -- or whatever you like.

  • Low performance issue with EPM Add-in SP16 using Office Excel 2010

We are having low performance issues using the EPM Excel Add-in SP16 with Excel 2010 and Windows 7
The same reports using Excel 2007 (Windows 7 or XP) run OK
    Anyone with the same issue?
    Thanks

Solved. It's a known issue. The solution, as provided by SAP Support is:
    Dear Customer,
This problem may relate to a known issue, which happens on EPM Add-in
with Excel 2010 when zoom is NOT 100%.
to verify this, could please please try to set the zoom to 100% for

    Quite annoying, isn't it?

  • Low-contrast embossing & translucent menu bar

Folder icons are now rendered with low-contrast embossing, making them much harder to identify at small sizes. The same problem is amplified by the new Menu Bar, which is translucent and can be difficult to read if used in combination with the wrong wallpaper.
I see this as one of the biggest grips so far of MacOS 10.5.0. It can be fixed really easily. Maybe in some small update, i.e.: 10.5.1, Apple could give us the option to darken or lighten the embossing by use of a slider in the preference panel. Also, maybe Apple could give us the choice to make the Menu bar solid or translucent by means of an "on/off" button also in the performance pane. Just an idea. Either way, these "problems" are so small as to make me wonder if people just have to gripe, just to hear their own voice.

  • Low contrast/dark monitor after installing screensaver (Resolved)

Immedietly after installing this http://screensaver.com/download.cfm?id=2219 screensaver my monitor has darkened and has very low contrast, it's now difficult to read dark text on a light background. I've tried a system restore, performed all the tests I could with "checkit" (all passed) and Symantec (usual minor errors) but to no avail. The monitor itself seems to be performing normally, the on light is a steady bright green and the dialogue boxes for adjusting the settings look normal. I've tried turning down the display settings but that has made no difference either.
My system is as follows: XP Home (with all patches and upgrades), MSI NX6600GT (DirectX 9, Nvidia driver 8.1.9.8), Foxconn NF-CK804 motherboard (nvidia 42302-e31 bios), AMD 3000+ cpu, 1024Gb RAM and Dell P991 monitor.
    Any help gratefully recieved.

    But I don't know how.
I decided to try another monitor and borrowed one from a neighbour. It worked fine, when I tried with mine again so did it. No idea what was wrong but I'm glad it cleared up.
The problem and the screensaver installation could be purely coincidental I suppose but it happened exactly at the moment the screensaver started for the first time.

  • Low contrast of text and outlining

    Hello,
Choice of colors in the discussions makes it very difficult to read. When you first time go to the discussions page it just strikes your eyes very hard with low contrast text. It takes some time to get used to it. And then, after the ten minutes of reading eyes are exploding because of the constant pressure in trying to focus your vision.
Outlining of the messages to different horizontal levels is actually confusing in my opinion. However, it might be just personal feeling.
But, the colors! Common guys, current "pastel" theme will drive most of the people blind or out of this website.

I find the paler color in the list of posts hard to read, too, with my "experienced" eyes.

  • Pen Tool clipping paths to light/ low contrast.

    Mac (10.6.8)
When using the pen tool to make clipping paths (silhouetting) the lines are much to light, thin and low contrast to be properly seen. I spend a lot of time clipping products (often middle greyish colored ones) and find in some places it is virtually impossible to even see the line/path being created.
I downloaded the CS6 beta with hopes that this problem was resolved but am unable to see where/how to fix it. (fixed outright? adjustments to line weight? Ability to change path color? Etc) Anyone else get it working properly?
FYI It worked fine up until CS3 but with CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 Adobe seems to have gone backwards.  When researching a work around I have often seen it blamed on the MAC OS but that is untrue as I have both CS3 and CS5.5 installed on the same machine and the pen tool for clipping paths still works great in CS3.

We do lots of paths as well, this helps somewhat:

  • T440s: Display low contrast

    HI there,
I have a T440s (Product Number 20AQCTO1WW) and it seems to me the display has very low contrast.
Generally what should be black (such as text in Word) is quite on the grey side.
Also, I do a lot of coding where syntax is colour-coded and I find it really hard to tell the individual colours apart.
I use an old HP L1950g LCD to extend my screen and when I shift my coding window over to this screen I can clearly tell the colours apart. but not on the Lenonvo screen.
I have already tried to play around with the Nvidia settings, espeically in contrast and alpha. But changing the contrast from the default only makes things worse.
My BIOS tells me I have a CMN N140FGE-EA2 screen.
Is there a way to increase contrast on the T440s screen?
    many thanks
     Andreas

    thanks for your replies.
When the colour comes out odd I usually lock the computer and sign back in, that helps, but might only be because I set the display to have the light dimmed when the compute is locked.
I guess it's a simple solution, but to a problem that shouldn't be there, and that's what bothers me about it.
    @ColonelONeill,
I'm not quite sure how I could judge if the black is normal, so me it looks a bit un-black, like not really a saturated black when windows is starting, but maybe that's just what it is.
Interestingly I just looked at a picture on both screens (the lenovo + external) and on the external the picture is exposed properly, with light and shadow parts. On the lenovo a darker part of the picture, which can be seen normally on the external screen is completely blacked out, even if I roll up the display brightness as much as I can

    Hi,
Can you check whether the Item for which the error is received is entered in negative quantity in the Production Order?
Can you check whether the item for the error is a item Managed by Serial/batch Number?
If the answer to both question is yes, then I would request you to kindly check the same settings in the Demo and check whether the error is displayed or not.

iOS 7 /8 reduce white points FURTHER! Reading Mode Lower Contrast!
I want a new feature to iOS 7 /8 reducing white points FURTHER!
It's very to to have so called Reading Mode with Lower Contrast!
iOS 7 /8 reducing white points Is very good. I hope we have further option to reduce the contrast.
For now I use the pop up quick control panel to reduce the contrast of the rest of the screen.
All above works with any kind of apps, so we don't need particular app to do that and have unified contrast, safari for instance.

Bob? Thanks! Do you know any possible way of do so? Or could there be any sector of this forum for submitting wish list?
