Low CPU mark score with a64 3000+

I get around 650 to 680 cpu mark score with my system:
MSI Neo Plat
1Gig of PC3200 KINGSTON Ram
A64 3000+ @ 2ghz
Leadtek 6800
I've updated the latest nforce drivers from MSI and the bios is 1.2
I think it's way to low since I had 300 cpu mark score with my lousy Athlon 1.4Ghz thunderbird.
I see that other a64 3000+ users get around 800 to 950 cpu mark score. Why is mine too low? Bios settings? What should I check?
I see even a MSI Kt800 user with 840 cpu score!

Could you please post a link for the software benchmark that you are referring to?  I can't seem to find the right one.  I got something called CPUMark but it is scoring mine at like 3400 which isn't in the correct range based on what you've said so it's probably a different software.  Thanks for your help.  I just want to see where mine falls out.

  • Low cpu benchmark scores on MBP 2,53

Hi, i think there might be something wrong with my hardware/software... i've ran some benchmarks like Xbench and Geekbench and found out that my score is very low, compared to, for example, early 2008 mbps. here's the screen with my results from geekbench:
    http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/5287/picture1wm4.png
and that's the test made on early 2008 mbp:
    http://pic.ipicture.ru/uploads/081124/OvChEYSR5I.png
    mac mini:
    http://img.leprosorium.com/39996
    What could this be?

Boot times seem reasonable although I would've expected an improvement over my beat up prev gen MBP with loads of stuff on it.
But look at this - http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/89870 - this is for MBP5,1 same as your model, same RAM and a slightly higher clocked CPU (2.8Ghz) - it gets 3614. So GeekBench incompatibility can be ruled out. More over if both Geek and XBench are slow I would suspect something else is wrong.
May be run Apple Hardware Test, Reset PRAM and PMU and retry. If all fails take it to the Apple Store and have them look at it - it is possible the CPU is stuck in lower speeds or something else. Ask them to try a replacement unit.

  • Low 3D Mark Score. (Fixed it)

Hi! I just ran 3D Mark 2001 SE on my system and I got aprox. 6000 3D Marks. How is this possible, when on my old PC with GeForce 4 and AMD Athlon XP 2000+ I was able to get 13 000?
I have all the drivers installed and there are no conflicts in Windows Device Manager.
Anti-alaising and tripple buffer, etc. are all disabled in nVidia driver pad and "Performance" is selected.
EDIT: It was just a bad run. Now I get 15300, so its OK.

You thought about going for faster ram?

  • Why low score with 3DMark 2003

    hello friends,
i wanted to know why i am getting low score in 3D Mark 2003 with my MSI Geforce FX 5200 T128 (64 bit) i got the following score
    3DMark 2001 =   5500 score
    3DMark 2003=    1150 score
    3DMark 2003=   865 score using 45.77 driver version
now the question is i heard does Nvidia use CG language or something and ATI company does not why. if so did Nvidia actually got success or something if they got out Geforce 6800 now does it also use the same language ?

3dmark2003 is pretty hardcore intensive. Its intended to test upcoming game performances (Doom 3, HL2, STALKER), so naturally, with a card like that (I have that card and around the same score), its going to get a low score. I think Direct X 9.0, Havok, as well as a bunch of other important game innovations are going to be tested.
The FX5200 is a low range, budget card, not for running Doom 3 and HL 2.
I dont know about the CG language business....?

  • Low 3D Mark 2001 score

I tested 3d mark 2001 on my pc, specs below, and i only score 9500 on the benchmark. What's wrong? Is it my PSU? Its the Q-tec 550Watt double fan psu. Ive been told its not that good but i should still get a higher score than that right?

An Antec (or ANY brand PSU, for that matter) will give you more headspace for future upgrades but it will not give you one single extra 3Dmark (in the same way that you will not get extra points for having an aluminium case   ).
    1. install 3dmark 2001SE;
    2. extra points will be gained with o/c-ing CPU and videocard;
    3. extra points will be gained with a "clean" system (remove as much of the background programs as possible, disconnect network and internet, defragment HD, etc.)
    4. choose fastest settings in control panel (some nice threads can be found on www.guru3d.com forum);
    5. compare the score with other comparable machines in the rankings of futuremark - is 9500 really that bad, btw?
    Hans
PS: Some scores that can be found on the internet: "typical": 10,000, "topscore": 16,000 (13,000 for non-ultra), 12,000 (on a 3.2 Pentium-based system) ... I guess that 9,500 is NOT really that bad ... but there is always room for improvement

  • HP Pavilion dv4t-1300 fan is always on even with low CPU

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-1300 Entertainment PC with Windows 7. Even with a low CPU (around 20%), my laptop fan is always on, and the noise is annoying. Why is it always on? How do I turn it off (I have a separate laptop cooler)?

There's a free programme called speedfan to moniter temps, my fan runs all the time its normal it runs at 30% unless cpu and things get to high temps, you can turn off the fan in the bios but i wouldn't recommend it.

  • Neo2-F/A64 3000+/Zalman showing 40C at idle in BIOS v1.9!!

My Neo2-F w/ A64 3000+ Venice arrived last night, along with some other parts (will list full specs below).  The BIOS version that it came with out-of-box is 1.9.
When I go to System Health in BIOS, it shows my CPU temp as ~40 degrees C!!  I don't think this is normal for a 3000+ that is not being overclocked, especially at idle.
I even went so far as to get a Zalman 7000AlCu for it, and used Arctic Silver 5 (I followed the instructions for application on their website (put a beebee sized drop in the center of CPU, and lower heatsink straight down, then screw in bolts).
I have to admit, I did mess up the first application of AS5 ... well, not the application itself, but it was my first time working with a Zalman.  So, when I tried to fasten the first bolt just a little bit as directed, the other side came popping up (too much leverage and I wasn't holding it firmly enough).  I have heard that this can cause air to introduced into the AS5 compound, so I pulled the HSF out and cleaned both surfaces thorougly with alcohol ... cleaned each surface multiple times, even after I could see no more AS5 residue coming off.
I am aware that this mistake compromised the efficiency of this setup a bit, but shouldn't the temps for a 3000+ be closer to 30 degrees C at idle, especially with AS5?
Perhaps it's just BIOS v1.9 that is returning incorrect temperature values?  What windows program can I use to check temps?
    -Thanks!

    My new 7000AlCu & AS5 is in a drawer...dont need them.
Try touching the very base of the hsf, closest to the cpu core as you can reach. BEFORE YOU DO IT, ground yourself by touching grounded metal objects.
Gives a clear indication if it's acceptable cool enough for YOU. I've had Abit AV8 mobo showing ~45C idle, next mobo was Asus A8V, showed pleasant 33C..current shows 27 and it's overclocked to 2,5GHz
I guess all temp readings are REAL CALCULATIONS, there is no real temp reader built-in...a BIOS matter.
Other things that add heat: RAM at high freq and voltage... SATA HDD's generate LOTS heat...bro's hdd got errors due to overheating, he didnt use fans blowing over the HDD...all that warm air makes cpu/case warmer ofcourse. You gotta have airflow in your chasse.
When/if you re-attach your HSF again, take a close look at the paste stuck on the hsf. I had "clear" spots (no contact between cpu core & hsf...paste doing no good) on ~40% of the core area....also I never trust AS5 again (or the boxed paste)...
Use Zalman's + some AS5: The two first times I re-mounted the hsfs (boxed and 7000AlCu) they were STUCK very hard to the core. Happened with alcu@as5 and boxed@boxed paste + boxed@as5. I've read "many" ppl ripping their cpu off the socket when trying to pull the hsf off...it got glued..solution=do it with warm pc).

  • My A64 3000 @ 2.3Ghz 1:1 - Can you help me go further? :o)

Hello everyone. Just wondering if anyone can help me. I have hit a brick wall with my overclock but I hope I can push it a little bit further, since other people have started to have more success.
So far I have managed 230HT 1:1 thus reaching 2.3Ghz with my A64 3000 @ 1.6v. My ram is rated to run at 250HT max of 1.9v - so I hope I can go further.
    My spec is:
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum
    BIOS 1.25Beta
    Athlon 64 3000 Newcastle
    1gig GeIL PC4000 Ram
    ATI Radeon 9800 XT
I have shifted thru a lot of the threads on this forum but lack any kind of solid evidence or solutions. Also, I'm unsure as to what bios I should use. I have never had a temperature problem with my board so I'm looking for overclock stability only. I know it's a lot of trial and error, overclocking I mean, but any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks for reading.

Thanks alot for your answer... If I do that, will I get the CPU with 2.3 GHz ?
Or is there one more thing to do ??
you said : Set AGP lock to 68 ... Is this in Bios under : "Adjust AGP Frequency" ?
and you said : Increase HT speed setting to 230 ... Do you mean the part which is "Adjust CPU FSB Frequency" in the Bios ?
Is there anything more to do except this three options , like changing the HT Frequency which is already by default at 4x ? Or changing the RAM Clock or something like that ?
And if nothing more to do, is it necessary to change the MSI heatsink or install a Fan on the nVidia Chip instead of the MSI heatsink already installed ?
I am sorry that I ask all that , because I am ever afraid to burn any piece of my PC , and this is why I am asking you because you made it already without problem specially that you have the same CPU as mine , but the different is the Grafik Card .
    Thanks !

  • Help me out, hard time understanding ratios? formula?(a64 3000 +neo4)

    Specs are
    k8n neo4 plat
    a64 3000 venice
    2x1gb corsair xms 3200
    x800xl
    520 ocz powerstrem
can some one give me there settings in bios so i can try them out, i want to try something moddest, im aiming for 2.2ghz maybe 2.4,
I really want to learn how to overclock but reading these guides are really confusing me, there seems to be a formula or ratio to how you overclock,
but im not getting it, its like a math formula isnt it? its freezing up my brain
can some one break down how the ratio or formula is done in order to get the desired overclock?
i understand that all setups will vary even if they are similar and my results will derive from my particular hardware.
i also understand the best way to know what your particular setup can handle is by testing the different settings at a time using programs such as cpuz, memtest and prime95..
any one mind helping me out? i chose this cpu for the sole purpose of overclocking it even though iv never even read about how to do it      anyway thanks in advance.

The A64 boards only allow a few ratios, but lowering the memory speed to have tighter timings usually yields beter overall performance....
Value RAM usually has problems at the HTT's these A64 boards and CPU's can run at, but the "better" memory on the "right" board, can do cas2.5 at 300HTT....!
The typical ratios the 64 Bit BIOS allow are:
200 = 1:1 ratio with HTT and memory clock, so when HTT is 250 the memory clock will be 250
166 = 5:6 ratio, so when HTT is 250 the memory will be 208
133 = 2:3 ratio, so when HTT is 250 the memory will be 166
100 = 1:2 ratio, so when HTT is 250 the memory will be 125
    Auto = I'm 80% sure that Auto = 1:1 ratio too
Some boards express these ratios in percent...

  • Overclocking A64 3000+

    Hey guys,
I got a n00b question about overclocking the A64 3000+.  Should I even think about doing this with the standard HSF?  I'm planning to use this machine for 2 years -- will overclocking destroy my machine before 2 years is up?
I can't be sure about my CPU temperatures right now coz I'm not 100% sure the K8N Neo Platinum temperature issues have been finalized yet, but under load, my HSF does not appear to be very hot...
    Please pardon my ignorance.
    Thanks in advance.

With standard HSF I wouldn't go more than 10% OC to be sure that the system will last... anyway 2200 MHz is not that bad after all

  • G570 low CPU

I got my G570 in June and it worked great until a few days ago.  It seriously slowed down.  I thought it was a virus because I went to some sketchy sites and didn'thave antivirus.. but I did a recovery from the one key recovery to the first point when I got my computer... and it worked great a for a while and then it did the same thing.  I've been searching for hours and I have no idea what's wrong with it.  What it's doing right now is running very slowly and the CPU usage won't rise above 10%. Basically, no matter what I tell it to do, the CPU usage remains at idle levels. I've searched for hours on the internet looking for something that looks like my problem and I can't find anything. And before someone dares to tell me that a low CPU level is good... yes, I know. But not like this. I keep looking around and seeing stuff that looks like my problem and the way people say to fix it is to not worry about it because low CPU usages are good and if you make your computer do something strenuous the level will go up... but mine won't do anything strenuous because the CPU usage will not rise above idle levels. It takes forever to respond and will barely even open the internet. In fact, sometimes when I click, it won't even open the browser because that's too much work. It's almost like 10% is it's top level and it can'twork more than that. Can someone PLEASE help me?

    hey zobothehobo,
have you updated the bios for your unit ? If you haven't then go to >> http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=130485
    and update your unit accordingly.
anyway, before it started to slow down was any new software installed prior to the issue occurring ?

that should be a sticky  something for the hall of fame
hugoar, like dr stu said, the AMD A64 3000+ runs by default at 1.8GHz. the 3000 after the name is only a marketing designation for the CPU which shows that the CPU will have the same performance as a Athlon Thunderbird overclocked at 3GHz.

    hello,
I tried 1024x768 and it gave me a score of  only 250 fps (Normal, texture color set to default).
I read somewhere in the net (also pls see http://www.anandtech.com/www.tomshardwareguide.com) of Intel 845G motherboard and MSI's 845G max getting a 283+ fps at 1024x768 Normal  and 300+ fps at 640x480 Normal with the ff. spec:
    Intel Northwood 2.4B 133x4 FSB  (mine is 2.48 @ 155x4)
    256MB DDR333 (mine is DDR412)
    Geforce4 ti 4600 128mb (mine is GF4 ti 4200 @310/600 64mb)
Also note these scores at 640x480 Normal
    GF4 ti4200  64mb @ 275/550 = 288fps
    GF4 ti4200  64mb @ 320/600 = 288.5 fps
Video card speed hardly make any difference in my Quake3 score
I need good Quake3 fps... i play a lot of OpenGL games!
    thanks
