Low memory crash

I have very few applications on my 1st gen iPad, as I use it mostly for web browsing. However more and more it is crashing when using Safari or a game like Angry Birds. The diagnostics indicate a "low memory" crash. I have seen many forums including the Apple forum with this problem and it has never been addressed adequately by Apple.  There are a lot of user attempts but none of them work consistently. Is my iPad now an expensive paperweight after only 3 years?

Try this:
1. Close all inactive apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Crash reporter on iMac shows Low Memory crashes.

I was looking for a crash log for something else today when I discovered a bunch of low memory crash logs in the User/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice folder.
I have a 32G iPad, bought it this summer. IOS 4.2.1. And I have used only about 1/4 of the space of it according to the bar when I sync it to my iMac. I have just a handful of apps, one movie, about two dozen songs, and 22 Pages documents.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Paul,
Low memory crash logs will refer to the system running out of RAM not storage space. The iPad has 256mb of RAM and with multitasking in 4.2 will be trying to squeeze more active apps into that space.
I don't think it's worth worrying about unless it's the applications you are using in the foreground that are crashing.
(It may just be background applications that are being terminated by the system to make more room for the apps you are launching. Apps are are given a certain amount of time to close and if they fail to close in time they are terminated so this maybe where the crash reports are coming from.)

  • A1000 low memory crashes

IdeaTabA1000L-F, android 4.1.2, kernal 3.4.0, serial HGC1W5PYMany months ago i came on this site looking for a solution about my low memory problems, d/l a updated software fix for this which lasted a whole day. Installed an external sd card and moved irrelevent data to it, and still had problems. Lastly, just yesterday, i did a factory reset, and basically started over. My tab is telling me there are no updates and im running the latest version. On the web, playing games etc, i keep getting low memory warning in upper corner, and the browser crashes. Even with all the cache empty. Please help me so i dont do like the little kid on the nationwide commercial and throw this down on the cement!!!!!

Exchanging an ipad for a software problem is not a solution. I am replying to everyone who complains about crashes. The ipad air along with OS7 was apparently rushed to market. It amazes me that the previous version of the ipad along with the operating system is more stable than the ipad air. How do you release something inferior to the previous model. I spent a lot of money on the ipad air because I purchased the model with 128mb of RAM. If I could go back in time I never would have done it based on the problems with this new OS.

  • Low Memory/Crash problem with Premiere Elements 8

I am having a problem when editing a project in Premiere Elements 8. I can only edit for about 5 minutes and I get an error from the program saying the program is low on system memory and I need to save and proceed with caution. Within a minute or two of this error appearing, the program shuts down. This has happened when working with projects that use .MTS and .AVI files in the same project.

  • Having issues with low memory that is causing some of my apps to crash, need help please !!!

Having issues with low memory that is causing some of my apps to crash, need help please !!!

Is the device actually showing low memory errors?
    What is really occurring?
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

  • Crashes with low memory

All the apps crashes after a few seconds with a low memory note. I have a iPad 1 with OS 5.0.1. I already tried to reset the iPad and restored a backup, but the problem is still there. I disabled iCloud, but nothing helped. Anyone who can help?

Go get an app called system status.  Load it up. Then double click to see the task bar.  You can see which apps are eating up your availalbe  memory.  Mostly it will be safari pages with lots of graphics or video.
From time to time, open the task bar and shut down the programs you are not using.  While most of them are idle, they do consume some memory.  In theory, iOS is supposed to do that for you, but sometimes that function Just does not work well.
A hard boot also releases memory.  Press the home and sleep buttons until the aple logo appears. Ignore the red slider.

  • IPad Air crashes with low memory error in Google Translate Web Site

My new iPad Air crashes with low memory error every time I try to use my Phrasebook in Google Translate Web site. This is rather disapointing considering that my old Nexus 10, that iPad Air is supposed to replace, works flawlessly in Google Translate Web site. Perhaps this has to do with the rather limited RAM (1GB) that iPad Air is equippoed with.
I would appreciate any recommendation, Thanks in advance.

  • TS1702 iPad 1 applications crash for low memory.  All apps are doing this.  Any solution?

Ever since the last update of IOS from Apple, all applications on iPad 1 are crashing for low memory.  I have done everything that Apple has indicated (make sure nothing in running in background, turn off iCloud, reset and reloaded iPad like new) and nothing seems to help.  Even went into the Apple store and the Genius said that there was nothing short of resetting the unit to "New".  That did not help.
I know there are tons of complaints out there but has anyone found a way around this?

So what do you want us to do about your complaint assuming it is true?

  • What to do about diagnostic and usage reports. I have crash reports and low memory?

I just recently got my iPhone 4S and I'm still learning and going through everything and ran into the diagnostic and usage reports low memory and crash reports what do I do from here?

You do not have to do anything.
They will automatic send to Apple for diagnostic.

  • IPad mini low memory report - what can I do to stop apps crashing

The iPad worked well, but friend started playing Nemos reef,, no problem to level 20 now the Disney app is crashing all the time and occasionally Facebook and Safari crash. There is low memory reports but I do not know how to improve that. I did delete some apps but didn't help. Disney no help because I am in UK although they were happy to take money for in-app purchases!

    Do two things:
    1.  In Settings > iTunes & App Stores, turn off automatic downloads for Apps.
    2.  Assuming you sync using iTunes, turn off the automatic app syncing on the App tab when you have the iPads connected that should not receive the downloads.

  • Low memory and app crashes

anybody else getting low memory warnings when using certain apps? is there a fix for this? say deleting apps?

anybody else getting low memory warnings when using certain apps?
Alas, our mindreading caps are at the cleaners. Which apps?
For example, "Aurora Feint" is an app that's well known to give that error.
Try force-quitting Safari and those apps, then try again. (Hold down Home button while on the app, until the application is forced to quit.)

  • Powerbook Lower Memory Slot Issue, what are my options?

    Hi there,
I have a Powerbook G4 1.5ghz that I purchased in October of 2004. I had no problems with it until after upgrading the RAM to 2 x 512mb chips and then installing Tiger which resulted in me later notcing the missing RAM and learning about the lower memory slot failure issue.
I find that sometimes if I remove the RAM and try and power it up and then replace the RAM again that the lower slot ocassionaly does come back. Trouble is though that the machine will either crash or I loose the other RAM slot when I have to shut it down. It seems to be so intermittent this way and I'm tired of constantly removing the RAM to fiddle about with it.
My serial number begins W8441, so it isn't covered by the returns programe. I would call Apple Support, but I am put off by a £35 charge just to have them discuss and diagnose the problem.
I'm in the UK and as I don't have Applecare and I'm not elgiable for the returns programe can anyone tell me what they charge for a logic board replacment? Looking at what they charge in the US, it's not cheap.
I use my Powebook for Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, After Effects mainly and I had been alright with 1gig when it was working.
I'm really trying to decide what the best thing to do is....
    - Do I pay for the logic board replacement, which I'm not really sure I can afford right now, or to be without my machine... especially as I have read that it can just fail again.
    - Should I just buy a 1gig stick for the upper slot and try and sell my old RAM, as that would be cheaper than getting the logic board replaced?
It's a real shame that Apple doesn't seem to want to ackowledge that this effects other users as I'd been so impressed with everything about Apple up until now.
    Thanks for any advice.

(Browse down for findings and questions).
The notorious lower-memory-slot-bug has hit my finally too... I never believed it until now (and I've immediately signed the petition).
I am outside warranty and I never bought Applecare either.
Also my powerbook, a very dear machine to me, is a less common type to have this problem: a 1 GHz G4 15" FireWire 800 OS 10.3.9 type. Funny enough my older powerbook ( a G3 Bronze) is still running strong with no problems whatsoever.
My G4 15" also has the "white spots" problem and a dead superdrive... I cannot believe how many hardware problems I'm having with this machine in comparison to all my older macs - even my sluggish powerMac 7200/90 never gave me this many headaches...
Alright, I'll stop complaining for now.
I've been able to browse the internet on this and found the following statements:
The lower memory slot gets "fried" because of a OS 10.3.9 upgrade,
or possibly due to overheating when the powerbook is put on the users' lap,
or possibly due to picking the powerbook up by the corners so the metal gets bent.
+ I have only seen one case where someone's UPPER memory slot was defective.
The solution to this problem (replacing the logic board) didn't seem to be definate in many cases so I'm reluctant to try this myself (and I have very little money). The alternative (replacing the upper slot memory with a bigger type of RAM) seems a bit scary to me,
    because I wonder:
-will the upper memory slot RAM get "fried" eventually as well after a while?
-do you need to have something installed in the lower slot or is it possible to just install one RAM card only?
-are there more people with a 1 GHz PB that have this problem? It seems it's mostly people with a 1,67 GHz that have been bitten by this bug and maybe that's why Apple decided to give the majority a free repair. I am not sure whether that is a common policy, I am part of the minority it seems.
As a solutions someone posted on a board that we should all buy KTA-PBG4333/1G RAM, but here in Dutch stores it is said this memory is only compatible with 17" powerbooks....
Does anyone know if it is suitable for 15" as well??

  • Low memory on iPad

After using Google Earth for a bit I get a Low Memory warning. It presumably means RAM. Under Settings - Usage this is called a crash. What do I do about this? Can I free up RAM memory? Thanks.

Plug it in to iTunes and see what it says.  "Other" is probably large but should be less then 2GB.  If larger, restore with your backup.  If still too large, restore as new, i.e. without your backup.
