Low Mic Signal via Mbox2

More frustrated n00b questions:
I'm getting a really low mic signal into Logic.....
So in trying to research why, I'm spending HOURS combing the web looking for "mbox2 low mic signal", "Logic Pro low mic signal", etcetera ad infinitum, trying to find information. FINALLY I find, buried in a mess of search results, a single sentence on the Digidesign site indicating that rather than select the mbox2 driver in Logic, I have to use DAE (and I also have to download an update to the DAE). So I download and install the update, relaunch everything (a few times), and now am asked to authorize all of Digidesign's various third-party Plugins when I start Logic. Except that I can't activate them because my Mbox2 didn't come with an iLok dongle (which the box said I'd need a USB port for -- I dunno if it was supposed to come with one?). So I click through 20 different third-party-plugin failed activation dialogues as Logic boots, only to be told at last that Logic doesn't recognize any hardware attached. !
So where it was recognizing the mbox driver before, now it's not. (I was able to get a mic signal and record audio yesterday; but the level was VERY low, to the point of having to pump the levels so high that it distorted.)
I don't know if this is a Mbox issue or a Logic issue or a mic issue. I'm leaning toward an mbox/Logic compatibility issue but I'm trying to figure out how the f* to fix it. And my eyes are beginning to cross.
Help!

Doesn't the Apple Store sell mbox????? I'm sure they
used to if they don't now. I wish they wouldn't
recommend a product that proclaims itself a viable
substitute for things as fundamental as a preamp that
are not sufficient to be. (I haven't looked at the
Store; maybe they stopped recommending it.)
Thanks for the info
They used to sell the original Mbox, that is why I bought
one. I saw it on their web site sitting next to and plugged
into my the same Titanium G4 laptop I had. They even
had this whole web page about how great Digi products
would work on Macs. They had me all psyched about
getting pro stools. It only took a few months to see
the way things really were. After that, I did not
swallow everything Apple fed me. After I decided to
to try Logic things got ugly. Digi has a seperate audio
driver for people that want to use their hardware and
not their software. It is almost like
revenge for rejecting them. If you update OSX ( which
you would be crazy to do, once you discover this)
you always need to update their audio driver or the stuff
does not work and lets just say they are not very prompt
on the updates to this driver. I will eventually be getting
another interface and like you,I dont care if it is the
industry standard. I will never buy any Digi products again.
The only thing that keeps me from letting it go on Ebay is
that it has got a pair of high quality Focusrite preamps
in it. Digi, I guess thought that they were not as good
as their own (yea, right) so that is what they put in
the Mbox2, those cheesy 50db gain preamps. Well sorry
you had to a lesson the hard way. I try and persuade
people against buying their stuff but if you had tried
to persuade me before I bought mine, I am not sure
you could have done it. That web page Apple made
sucked me right in.

  • Directv HD signal via component into a 24" iMac help?

    Greetings,
PC user here who is attempting to convert to Mac. I currently have a Dell 17" Media Monitor and an XPS tower. I have both an office and home theater in my basement. So I ran a component cable from my Directv reciever 30' or so into my Dell monitor via component in. This allows me to watch an HD Directv signal in picture in picture while I work on my home office PC. I also have a VGA cable going out of the Dell Monitor about 40' or so to my Marantz projector so that I can watch my PC source on my 10' home theater fixed screen.
Now to my problem. I need to use some Mac apps for work, prefer the OS and want to switch to Mac in my home office. I am very interested in buying the 24" iMac. After a discussion with Mac Sales it seems clear that I can use an Apple mini DVI to VGA adapter to send the iMac source via VGA cable to my home theater projecter. What is unclear to me is how in the world to convert my Directv signal via component cable into the iMac for display? Mind you I don't want to edit the video or store it or burn it or send it to friends or pirate it in any way - so I don't think I need a video capture card. I just want to be able to view the signal and turn the iMac into a dumb monitor in this instance.
Second question. If I can somehow display an HD Directv signal on the iMac ( I know there is a solution for standard def and terrestrial HD signals) via component, surely the video card that comes standard in the iMac - the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 memory will allow me to view not just the iMac desktop, but any Directv signal that is now viewable on the iMac (presumably in a window or picture in picture)???
I spoke with sales reps at both AJA and Black Majic. they both offer costly solutions or cheaper video card solutions that would allow component in, but only cards that would install in a tower such as the Mac Pro. I would strongly prefer an iMac based solution as it is the perfect Mac for my home office needs and the Mac Pro is overkill.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Illiniwin

If the Reset didn't work, you'll need to do a Restore.
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finished, you will be asked if you wish the contents of iTunes to be copied to the iPad.

  • Sending out a signal via Parallel port in interrupt mode?

I am trying to send out a 5KHz TTL signal via parallel port. the CPU should be disturbed at most time. so we can't use loop structure. I guess I have to use interrupt mode to do this job.
In other languages, we might be able to programm 8253, which is a timer and counter chip on mother board. can we generate a 5KHz siganl via parallel port without disturbing CPU?
or can we call another labview program in our main labview program.by doing so, two programs are running at the same time, we may be able to solve my problem
    Thanks

    Hi Sean-
This functionality is theoretically possible, but this might not be the best option if you are concerned about latency in operation. A few references for using the parallel port in LabVIEW are linked in this thread.
If you are concerned about precise timing and operating system latency issues, you may want to consider a hardware-timed PCI counter/timer board instead. This utility is a good starting point for selecting such a card.

  • How to generate PSK signal via IFRIO

Hi, i want to ask is anybody know how to generated PSK signal via IFRIO.
I already generate PSK signal and analyse it using modulation tool kits but how to configure IFRIO to make it send out this signal?
    PSK signal detail:
    BPSK with symbol rate 4000bps
    modulated by 16KHz carrier.
    Thanks.

    Hi
precisely i have no idea what is the sampling rate of the signal. I just want to generate the signal with constant amplitude based on the actual sampled signal. is it possible to achieve?.
Attached is my actual sampled signal.

  • Is it possible to detect low frequency signals with a high sampling rate?

    Hello everyone,
I'm having an issue detecting low frequency signals with a high sampling rate.  Shouldn't I be able to detect the frequencies as long as the sampling rate is at least 2 times the highest frequency I will measure?  The frequency range I am measuring is 5-25 Hz, and I use Extract Single Tone.vi to measure the frequency.  The sampling setting I am using is 2 samples at 10 kHz.  Is there a method I can use to make this work?
    Attached is the vi.

You are sampling at 10Ks/S, but only taking two samples. What do you expect to see? If your signals are binary (On or Off) you would only see either an on or an off, or if the rise/fall time was fast and you were Extremely lucky, one of each. If you want to see a waveform you have to sample for at least the period of a waveform. So you should take samples for at least 0.2 seconds to capture an entire waveform at 5Hz, ideally longer.   Think of looking at a tide change at a dock. If you want to see the entire tide change you will probably have to measure repeatedly over 24 hours, not just run out on the dock, measure the height twice and leave. That wouldn't tell you anything other than at that precise moment the tide height was X, but not that it was at high tide, low tide, in between, etc.
I type too slowly, I see that a more technical answer has been given, so mine will be the philosophical one!

  • Low GPS Signal with Tom Tom or Navmi

From some days I have problems with my iPhone 3GS and the navigators Tom Tom and Navmi.
It give me "Low GPS Signal".
But with the other apps the system work correctly, such as Facebook Registration or Google Map.
I have disabled and enabled in Setup the menu voice "Location".
Please, help me to use my navigator with iPhone.

I had a similar problem. What I do now is open tomtom app, put in destination. Wait for tomtom navigation screen to come on then exit tomtom (this should leave tomtom running in the background, confirmed by gps signal in status bar). Now open default maps app and wait for a signal lock (blue location circle to to become really small), then double tap home button (don't exit maps) and open tomtom. Your tomtom should now lock onto the signal from maps app. Works everytime for me.
    Hope this has helped.

  • Choices to boost faint mic signal

I want to boost the very faint signal from my low-end, basic dynamic mic into my iMac so the input level is higher.
I would appreciate any feedback on any of the following products or choices:
My choices seem to be a mic pre-amp:

    or

Or a basic mixer (which evidently has a built-in mic pre-amp:
    http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-Xenyx-502-Mixer?sku=63126 2
    Or an audio-interface:

Any intel or thoughts on these would be much appreciated. I'm going for decent, clean sound quality, not Abbey Road.

    Tim,
It sounds like a lot of your frustration is coming from the Linksys router. I have the following WDS setup: An Aiport Extreme Base Station as the "main" and an Airport Express as a "remote". I enjoy amazing signal strength throughout my entire apartment. I have a Powermac G5 and two PC laptops. All three receieve maximim "bars" of reception no matter where they are in the apartment. This is most likely due to my WDS and the placement of my two base stations. I also have a Dr. Bott antenna for my G5, not the Airport Extreme Base Station. Connecting a Dr. Bott antenna to the AEBS seems to be quite worthless if you want to extend your range compared to adding on an AE. However, when I connected the antenna to my G5, it helped out a lot more than that little "T" looking one that came with the G5. See the following thread:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68b4b14d
As far as your setup is concerned. I don't have much experience with Linksys routers, or combining them with AE's to create a multi-brand WDS. The best recommendation I have for you is to go purchase a couple of AE's. I know this is probably the most expensive option, but I GUARANTEE you will be very satisfied and have little to no problems setting them up. Just use one as the main (in place of your linksys), and use the other as a remote. Place the remote AE inbetween the main one and your G5. You will experience a strong signal and your problem will be solved. Unfortunately, this solution costs around $250. If you want to keep your linksys and not have an all-Apple setup. Just purchase one AE and follow Henry's link on how to set up a WDS with a Linksys and an AE. If you do decide to go with two AE's and scrap the Linksys, follow the following instructions on Apple's website to setup a WDS. It's a piece of cake!

  • Low mic volume today, was fine yesterday

I have an alienware laptop that I had just recieved for Christmas. Friends and I have been playing games while talking via Skype for a few weeks, and everything has been fine.
Today, when we went to play, my three friends told me that my mic volume was incredibly low. I checked all my settings, everything is maxed as far as I can tell, and absolutely nothing was changed in between the last time we played and now. (I literally turned my laptop off the last time we played, and powered it back on to this issue)
    I can answer any questions.

i am suddenly having this problem as well.
i have tried trouble shooting this problem many ways but it never quite works. i will list what i have done so far.
    1) tested with another mic. same effect
    2) maxed the mic volume in the skype settings
    3) tested with another audio recording software. mic still works great
    4) tried resetting everything i could think that would help (computer, skype, skype settings)
    5) when i tried resetting skype settings by going into appdata and changing the skype file into Old_Skype forcing skype to reload its settings, it would appear to work wonderfully when i started up the software. it would walk me through the setup settings and the bar that shows mic volume was going up to my voice as it normally does. then after setup and i get into a test call, my mic is back to sounding incredebly quiet.
    6) i went into sound setting and tried many combinations concerning mic boost which was already up, tried disableing software setting override, tried disableing all sound effects. all still nothing.
i am using a turtle beach x12 but that shouldent be the problem because a logitech i have is having the same problem. i am running on windows 8.1 i have tried skype calls with friends they all say my mic is very quiet. much much quieter than normal, even when yelling into the mic. if i think of anything else you may need or if you ask for it i will add to the post.
    thank you all
Edit: after more testing i may have discovered the problem. skype is only detecting my onboard mic and is trying to use that (im using a laptop). how can i get skype to detect my turtle beach headset? other programs seem to just fine
Edit 2: disreguard the first edit. when speaking into the mic in a way that the on bord mic wouldn't be able to pick up, skype got the sound i was sending into my headset mic. still quietly but somewhat louder because i was closer to the mic on the headset

  • Obtaining a TTL input signal via DIO lines of 7334

    Hi
How can I obtain a TTl input signal from a source via the DIO lines of the 7334 .
    Thanks
    Mal

I do not quite understand your question.
If you want to know what kind of signal a DIO line will detect properly: the signal has to be less than 0.8V to detect a low state and more than 2.0V to detect a high state. This is compatible with outputs of all TTL logic circuits.
If you have some other circuitry (source) with different specifications for the digital signal you can simply connect a switching transistor in open collector circuit. The DIO lines have pull-up resistors, and when the transistor is switched the DIO input will be tied to less than 0.8V (low level).
Anyhow, if the high output level of your source is more than 5V (there are many control systems with 24V output level) it is better to use galvanic isolation to avoid damage of the motor controller. You can use a relay, or better an opto-isolator. You have to design the series resistor of the opto-isolator such that the input gets proper current to drive the LED (usually 10mA will be sufficient for most optocouplers). If the opto-isolator has an open collector output configuration it can be connected directly to the 7344 DIO line.
Of course you always have to provide a common GND connection between the 7344 board and your signal source (or the open-collector transistor in case you use this configuration or an opto-isolator).

  • Low Mic Volume

    Just a quickie
I do a bit on voice over editing via my Studio software, but the microphone volume is very low, I've tried different mics and fiddling with the settings but no joy.
Is there something I have missed?

Have you checked "Mic Db boots" option from mixer advanced properties?
Also navigate to Realtek installation folder and execute "miccal.exe" to calibrate the Mic.

  • No signal via DVI to VGA adapter on my video projector Sharp PGM 15X

    Hi there!
I have a big problem with my video projector. It´s connected via mini DVI to VGA adapter to
the projector. The problem is, Mac OSX decect the projector but there is no picture.
To resize the solution on both, or one of them doesn´t help.
When I use my Bootcamp and reboot with Windows XP there is a picture on the video projector.
    I cant believe this.
What should I do to fix this problem?

I got my Mac Mini yesterday and I am having the exact same problem as you are having.
I've tried on two different TV's but it is just not sending a signal. Is it faulty?
