Low Power Consumption Thumb Drives (For Aluminum Keyboards)

Like most folks without an iMac (I have a MacPro), I'd like to plug a thumb drive into the side of the keyboard. But with most of the drives I have I get the "Low Power Notice".
However, when I plug in an older SanDisk Cruzer Titanium, it works great. The drag is it's only 512MB.
Does anyone know of lower power consumption thumb drives that will work with the aluminum keyboards?

OK, are you plugging your keyboard directly into your MacBook Pro with the notebook plugged in or running on battery? It seems like the keyboard is not receiving enough power or is defective so you just need to narrow down where the issue is.
My guess is the keyboard is not getting enough power so it in turn cannot power external devices. You might try taking it into an Apple store and speaking to a Genius. If you can't try another keyboard and see how that performs, if you get the same issue then it's not the keyboard it is probably the amount of power being supplied to it.

Firefox Sync works thru a server, either Mozilla's sync server or a local sync server the user has running on their own LAN. There's no way to sync the data to a thumb drive unless it has a version of Firefox on that thumb drive.
You didn't mention which "settings" are involved, but you can export your Firefox bookmarks in HTML format to a thumb drive, and view that bookmarks.html file on any web browser on just about any operating system.

For your other personal data in Firefox, there is no real solution outside of using Firefox.

I'd suggest examining the sides of your MBP's case - mine has a USB port on each side, but it dates from 2005 or so. (I just looked, and it appears currently manufactured MBPs still have two USB ports, but they're both on one side of the case.

Need driver for Ortek keyboard EKB-805PRO

When I upgraded from 10.4.7 to 10.4.9, I lost the ability to use some special keys on my Ortek EKB-805PRO keyboard. While the F6-F12 function keys work, the Volume+, Volume- and Mute buttons, which I like to use, are inactive.
Reinstalling the old driver didn't fix it.
Has anyone found a driver for this keyboard that works with 10.4.9?
The one from Ortek's site doens't seem to work:

As for the Ortek keyboard, I went to their site and couldn't even get their links to work let alone download a driver. It does say that they support Mac OS X, but it doesn't indicate exact version numbers. I'm wondering if perhaps the support 10.4.9? You might try contacting Ortek.
Try this too... maybe your system preferences are corrupted. Locate this file:
com.apple.systempreferences.plist It's here: MacintoshHD/Users/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash and reboot. Your Mac will create a new preferences file for you.
Also, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions.

There are also ways for YOU to put Lion on a Thumb Drive. I did. A lot cheaper than going this route. Just make sure you follow the instructions people have posted AFTER you download and BEFORE you install Lion. I also made a Lion install DVD just in case.

Yes, but you don't need one that big. An 8 GB is sufficient.

You could also install the full OS on that USB and be able to boot into a system as opposed to just Recovery.

Lion thumb-drive for my 2008 macbook pro WONT INSTALL!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought the $69 Lion thumb-drive for my 2008 macbook pro (still running leopard) and when I insert the drive, the Lion Install screen opens up and it say "You cannot use this version of the application Install Mac OS X Lion with this version of Man OS X."
The Guy at the Apple store said it should just install! I hope somebody can help me through this, I shouldn't have to pay another ******* $30 to run something that was supossed to work in the first place!

Low power on USB port for external hard drive

Hi all!
I'm new here and I have some question about my brand new hybrid - HP Envy x2.
Couple days ago i found an issue that usb ports are powered by from motherboard even when tablet with dock is turned off or in hibernation mode. This is problematic when I leave device with plugged usb hub, external HD, speakers (powered from usb port) and mouse. After 8 hours in work when I go back home I saw that battery is about 10-15% lower than before leaving Envy x2. I disabled USB charge mode in BIOS, but after that I have problem with working of my external HD.
When I try to attach hard drive to computer and then I try to turn it on nothing happens - looks like system (Windows 8.1) can't boot. But after immediate unplugging HDD from USB system goes to procedure of starting. I also tried to plug Toshiba HD after turning on my Envy x2 and being in desktop, but nothing happens. Light on HD is blinking, I can hear from it sound like clicking (trying to start?). Also HD is visible in Device Manager but not in My Computer (as additional partition).
I have tried to change boot options in BIOS by positioning of devices (priority to boot from CD ROM, HDD, OS etc.) but did not fixed problem.
After couple of tests provided to found why my HD did not work properely in disabled USB charge mode I know that USB port did not give minimum value of power from supply. I found cable with one plug on one side, and with two plugs on other side (like "Y" type). Then i plugged one end into first USB port, then second end in second USB port and finally - last end of cable to m HD and booooom! It works!
Here is my question: Is there any ability to change that kind of power supply on USB ports? I want to power mu external hard drive from one USB port, not from two. I have USB hub but don't want to use two USB ports (on the opposite positions of docking station) and additional USB cable. I have the most recent BIOS (F12) and all fresh drivers installed on my computer.
Any solutions?

SONY BM10 Power consumption - working current (for outdoor use)

Does anybody know what is the max power consumption in watts or miliwatts and the max working current in mA of the sony bm10 bluetooth receiver.Is it possible to power it with a rechargeable battery pack for outdoor use (no AC outlet) and if so, how many mAh should the battery pack be in order for the bm10 to work for 4 - 5 hours? As i am ignorant about these issues i would really appreciate any help.

Bought USB 3.0 32GB Thumb Drive For MBP Retina - Format?

I bought a PNY 32gb Flash Drive, USB 3.0. Wow, so much faster than my other 2.0 thumbs.
Like my other thumb drives it pops right in, the MBP immediately recognizes it, and your transferring files no problem, even very large 10 gig plus folders. And there is no problem transferring files with co-workers who have PC's by other manufacturers.
The PNY drive is formatted MS-DOS (FAT). One lone problem I have is that when I drag over my Microsoft User Data folder, I get a message that the 10.2 GB Folder with 515,000 items, "can't be copied because it is too large for the volume's format." How do I resolve this as this folder contains my 10,000 plus e-mails in Entourage?
Can I solve this by reformatting my flash thumb drive to "Mac OS Extended Journaled" within the disc utility in Lion; and if so, will I still be able to swap files with this drive with my co-workers using Dell and Toshiba computers?

I'm working with a Lexar 32Gb USB stick right now - one of many brands, sizes and formats. Initially I forgot that FAT was difference than ExFat formatting; I just fell into the "Uh, Windows is FAT; let's use that"-history. Didn't work, wanted to be formatted by Windows 7 (which didn't know what to do with a 32Gb device - suggested 200Mb).
Looking at it from a UX perspective, the odds are the UI isn't different enough for the user to note they're formatting it wrong. I'm calling user-error on this one.

It will almost certainly not connect directly to USB thumb drives. There's still no USB port, and except for photos on specifically-arranged drives, there have been no indications that such support will be provided via the Camera Connection Kit.

I have a thumb drive that I want to make sure I can play on any LCD or Plasma that has a USB port on it.
1. Do I need to format it in any particular way for a quicktime movie file I want to put on it?

You should expect to use a standard PC format. Check the devices' user manuals to find out what they require.

Although this board has been announced, appears on the website with specifications, and has been exhibited at tech shows, I can not find it in the USA. Update: MSI, itself, did not return any of my calls or email but one of their distributors, ASI, was very nice and said this board would appear in the USA at end of May 2006. this MSI board looks like the thing: it runs a core duo yonah type processor and has a pci-e x4 slot.
So far, the 975x boards like Aopen have dual pci-e x16 slots but they appear only to work only with graphics boards.
I want to put a raid controller areca arc-1230 into the slot. Areca was very responsible and actually tested the 975 boards to find out that they did not work at this time.

I'm afriad that nobody can gives you a definate answer on your question as this concern many factors to say as in production lines, marketing and distribution.

Most users create an image when they have multiple installs. You can simply drag the Install Mac OS X Lion installer from Applications to another drive or folder on your computer. Apple removes the installer after it runs.
You can always download again from Purchases in the Mac App Store (MAS).
