Low prices vs High performances: How come ?!!!

Hi there,
I'm really considering between the PB G4 12" and new MB.
Actually, I love the PB-12" design, it's gorgeous and
especially, it's mature. I have seen from the Mac's products
that, like a nature, they need some interval to get improved,
less buggy.
But, when the MB comes around, I was surprised about the way
they can cook this stuff ... higher performances at lower
prices (compared to the PB or iBook) ??
I've been thinking about this from time to time and would
like to share if someone could figure this out
So, like usual,
W h a t do you think ???
P.S. Heyyyy, Mac-in-Black is cool, really want to see a real
one.

Hey there,
Lists the products in the current catalog:
{tag_productlist,productsPerRow,targetFrame,resultsPerPage,sortType,hideEmptyMessages,useLi}
The number of products per row, the target frame.
For example, _blank or leave empty, the number of products per page, the sort type (weight, name, price, release date, expiry date, date) - you can use asc and desc for ordering, like 'price desc', hide the empty message, if no products exist (true, false), render using LI elements (true, false) )

  • RIAD-0 with 2x 36gb raptor, no better performance, How come?

    Hello people
I have my system in order, running stable and fast.
    But now i bought 2x raptor 36gb
I have connected them on my VIA raid controller (not on promise)
I have created a Raid-0 array and set them as boot array
i can choose between different stripe sizes.
    I have chosen 64k
now i have installed windows 64 bit with the lates via (beta) raid driver.
    everything works fine.
now i install sisoft sandra 2004 prof edititon > and take the test.
But when i look at the test results it is very bad compared with other results sandra gives me of other configurations.
    with pcmark 2001 > i have the same HD score> 1500
i do not have the idea my raid is working fast
IS THE VIA BETA 64  RAID DRIVER so slow ??
DID anyone tested the via raid driver 64 ??
anyhow> i think i will install win xp 32 bit again.

i got two raptors in raid 0 array.....but i have it on my promise contorller. boot times are awesome, opening progs are killer fast and video editing has been amazing. as far as games i dont really play any but i do run ALOT graphic intense progs and alot of CAD. i think the raptors help alot out on some things and at other points u wont notice to much of a differene. peace.

Your Solid State Drive and having enough space inside your Macbook Air & Pro
Solid State Drive usage premise, or the “more space / upgrade SSD” question
There have been questions posed and positions taken by many people who are trying to use their Macbook Air or Pro’s solid state drive (SSD) as a mass media storage device, for either pictures, videos, massive music collections or all three combined; but this should not be the working premise of a ‘limited’ SSD and its use.
In which, it’s the case of those users with either 128GB, 256GB, or even 512GB of internal SSD space, that have or are running “out of space”, that questions are raised. The immediate premise of some users can sometimes be “(how to / if) upgrading my SSD” when in fact in nearly all instances another approach is the logical and sensible one that needs to be looked into and exercised.
Any Macbook containing a SSD should be idealized as a ‘working platform’ notebook containing all your applications, documents, and weekly or bi-weekly necessary files. All collections of media files such as pictures, music, and videos, unless directly needed should be kept off the notebook and on an external hard drive or likewise. While the ‘working platform’ premise is also the case with larger internal conventional hard drives of 1TB+, its implementation isn't as critical except in terms of data protection.
Realistically, you should at most coordinate roughly 20 to 25% of your total SSD space to all audio-video personal use media (picture / music / video collections), leaving the remaining amount on an external HD.
Nobody should consider any notebook a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device; and in the case of a SSD, this is more important for purposes of having sufficient working space on the SSD and reducing SSD ‘bloat’ in which cases someone is wrongly attempting to use the SSD space as a large media storage nexus.
The rare exception to the collective usage and premise of SSD use in which a much larger SSD is truly needed are for those in video and photography professions that require both the extremely fast speeds of the SSD and the onboard storage for large and or many video and photography files. However this also falls under the premise of a ‘working platform’ for such peoples rather than the intent of many who are using the SSD as passive and static data storage for media files very infrequently needed or accessed.
All on-notebook data collections should be logically approached as to necessity, and evaluated as to whether it is active or passive data that likely doesn’t need to be on the notebook, allocations of space-percentages to as-needed work and use, apportioning space for your entertainment media, and questioning whether it should it be on the notebook for more than short-term consumption.
Considerations should be made in the mind of any user in differentiating the necessary system data (System hub) comprising the Mac OSX, applications, necessary documents that both must and should be on your internal SSD, and that of the users personal data (Data hub) comprising created files, pictures, music, videos, PDF files, data created or being created and otherwise, that likely unless being used soon or often should be parked on an external hard drive for consumption, or temporarily loading onto the internal SSD.
You both can and should purchase whichever SSD size you need or see fit, but even in the case of the largest of SSD, unless use-considerations are made, and SSD spaces are allocated as should be the case indicated above, one can easily and immediately run into this quandary of “needing more internal SSD space”, in which instance a different approach in usage must then be implemented.
However it is almost always the case, that such large media files are wanted to be stored internally rather than actually needed, in which case the external HD is both prudent as well as necessary. Additionally costs per MB are infinitely less on an external HD than an internal SSD in any consideration of data expansion needs.
    A Professional Example
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.
You should also never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your Macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’. This is especially what your external HD is for.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their notebooks internal SSD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your Macbook has a SSD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your notebook to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
Slim USB3 1TB external hard drive
    External Hard Drives
External hard drives are both extremely cheap and regardless of the size of your internal SSD (or even internal hard drive if the case), you need an external hard drive with your SSD equipped Macbook for several reasons:
    1. Data backup and protection.
    2. Redundancy for important data.
    3. Necessitated ideal space for large media files for collections of pictures, videos, and music etc.
While ever changing in price, typical portable 2.5” external hard drives in USB3 run roughly $65 for 1TB or $120 for 2TB small portable USB3 hard drives. Such drives range in thickness between 5mm and 15mm, with recent improvements in storage of 500GB drives in 5mm profiles.
There is almost no premise in which a small 12mm thick 1 Terabyte USB hard drive cannot be taken along with any Macbook as an external large storage extension inside any Macbook carry case or pouch. Typically such external HD profiles are not much bigger than a deck of cards.
External hard drives are a foregone necessity for purchase with any Macbook for at the very least Time Machine backups, data redundancies, and ideally for large media storage.

  • How do I connect and detect a high frquency pulse (0-3500hz) with a variable pulse voltage (0v low,5-10v high), on a SC-2345 connected to a PCI-6224?

How do I connect and detect a high frquency pulse (0-3500hz) with a variable pulse voltage (0v low,5-10v high),  on a SC-2345 connected to a PCI-6224?  Labview doesn't generate a waveform if I try to graph the signal, and my analog input doesn'y recognize that the signal is even pulsing, only that it has a voltage.  Some advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Garrett

    Hi Garrett,
It sounds like you want to do Frequency Measurements of a signal that is somewhat digital.
There are two ways you can really do this:
Wire your signal to the counter input and use the Digital Frequency examples (Help > Find Examples > Browse > Hardware Input and Output > DAQmx > Counter Measurements > Digital Frequency)
Continue taking analog measurements and use some sort of logic to determine where you are getting rising and falling edges.
I would recommend doing method #1, but you must determine which one is the best for your system.
If you want to connect to the counter pins then you will find the
terminals located on the side of your SC-2345.  If you don't need
to condition your signals then simply wire everything into the proper
    pins for your counter (below).

Are you running the 9.0.1 Update of the program and on what computer operating system is it running?
Is your video card/graphics card driver up to date according to the manufacturer of the card?
Is your computer optimized, including maintenance of pile ups of preview files, conformed audio files, and conformed video files?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
What are your project settings and what are the properties of your source media? When you say that "used to be able to export...." is that on the same computer, same brand/model/settings for the camera recording the video now in use, same Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
Where player are you using for the playback of these exports?
Please give us more details on the size of the projects (then and now) as well as details of the customized export settings in your Share/Computer/ route. Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 is only a 32 bit application running in 32 bit or 64 bit system. Not sure if computer resources might be taxed more so now than before.

  • How come geekbench shows 13% more performance for mbp

    Hello
So i compared geekbench results for both mbp retina 13 with 2.9ghz processor and the mba 13 with 2.0 ghz processor
And on average the mbp scored 13% more.
So my question is , how come while its processor is 45% faster, the mbp scored only 13% more in geekbench?
    E

A couple of points I can think of:
    1) Vmware or other emulations can run apps at native speed on the intel based macs, so I concur that there shouldn't be any lag using Windows app through Vmware
    2) Powerpoint and other Office apps, to my knowledge, need Rosetta to work on Leopard. This has been shown in various benchmark tests to start up and function much slower than the PowerPC based macs. As you may already know, Rosetta works in the background and you are not aware of it working. It is done automatically when opening the apps in Leopard
    3) As for Powerpoint files being saved as Keynote and the resultant keynote being dreadfully slow. Try this: Open Keynote and make a quick presentation with lots of processor intensive builds/actions and see if you notice the lag. If you do, then the problem lies with your computer and you should have a Mac Genius look at it. If you do NOT notice any performance issues with it, then you should look at the particular keynote file (the one that was exported from Powerpoint). Right click the file and make sure "open with Rosetta" is NOT checked off. Uncheck it and open the file again and you should see performance improvement
    Good luck

If it's a debit card then I don't think that they are still accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts recently about them being declined
If it is a credit card then is it registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a Lebanese bank and you are currently in the Lebanon ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support and see if they know why it's being declined : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • 17.3" high performance gaming NB - Limited MSI GT70 Dragon Edition

In recent 2 years, MSI did not focus on the Ultrabook series as many other brands, they mainly focused on high performance of Gaming series Notebooks,
that makes MSI to become a well known gaming products company in the market, also shows how important of the Gaming related market.
MSI Gaming, Dell Alienware and ASUS ROG are the top 3 of the gaming laptop products in the gaming laptop market,
that's the well known brands in the gaming laptop market. The higher product position comes with much higher price range.
MSI extend their Gaming series become more price range segments, GT series on the top, GX series based on AMD platform,
and GE series focus on the performance level market with better Cost/Value, so that more consumer could consider their GE series with better price range.
This time we would like to share the latest version of MSI GT70 - The GT70 Dragon Edition.
The GT70 Dragon Edition totally changed with their box design, make it slimmer and with better looks of their dragon logo to impressed gamers and power users.
The ID design of GT70 Dragon Edition.
Compare with their regular GT70, the GT70 Dragon Edition use red metallic cover design with the Dragon Tattoo on it,
that makes GT70 more gaming style and high performance looks.
The metallic cover with normal light will be deep red, but the metal will reflect light of the color with different angle,
so the color of the red will be lighter when outdoor with sunshine.

34~38℃ when idle mode. (Cooler Boost on)
Run the InteBurn Test to make CPU with full loading - 73~86℃(Cooler Boost off)
Run the InteBurn Test to make CPU with full loading - 72~77℃(Cooler Boost on)
We use idle mode and full loading test to compare the Cooler Boost fan function to check difference.
The temperature difference of Cooler Boost on and off, it's about 2 degree when idle,
and biggest gap is 11 degree when CPU is full loading burning test, so the Cooler Boost really helps when users need it.
Besides the fan performance, about the noise of the cooler, it's not easy to hear the fan noise if Cooler Boost is off, and Cooler Boost will make the noise louder for sure.
But the noise is not high frequency that makes people uncomfortable, if you listen to the music or play games with Dynauido sound system, you will not hear the noise even you turn on the Cooler Boost.
Many notebooks with Dual Core will be 40℃ more when idle mode, and full loading will be 80~90 degree.
So the temperature of GT70 with Core i7 and GTX675MX is really well controlled, MSI did have good design skill on the thermal solution with small space inside the notebook.
Conclusion of MSI GT70 Dragon Edition:
    Pros:
    1. Dragon Edition makes the chasses with special coating with Dragon Tattoo, also improve the packing a lot. Upgraded hardware on GTX675MX and Killer Double Shot.
    2. Dual mSATA3 SSD and 2.5 inch 750GB HDD makes great balance of performance and capacity. 4xDDR3 DIMM with good extend of the RAM size.
    3. Rich on IO interface, 3 USB3.0 and 2 USB2.0, with HDMI, D-Sub and eSATA as well.
    4. Full size keyboard by Steelseries with back light, add on Turbo, Cooler Boost to boost up GPU and fan performance.
    5. Special 2 channel with 1 subwoofer design with Sound by Dynaudio system, the sound quality even better than previous version of GT70.
    6. Built in 1920x1080 Full HD matted display, that will makes your eyes more comfortable when gaming or watching movies.
    7. Latest Killer Double Shot function, the LAN is faster and WiFi comes with 2x2 and 2.4GHz/5GHz dual band design.
    Cons:
    1. SSD will be better if use the Micron or Marvell control chip.
    2. Maybe IPS panel is more expensive, but still expect the GT70 could option with IPS panel in the future.
    3. The NVIDIA graphics driver still need to improve on Windows 8 system, some 3D benchmark or games still can't get good performance on GTX675MX with full speed.
    4. Recommend to use Creative Sound Core3D quad core sound chipset.

    Hi,
I have been searching for a high-performance and reliable SOHO NAS storage but I have seen very mixed and contradicting reviews for the products I have looked at so far. From QNAP to Synology to etc.
However I've not found a good review for Promise SOHO NAS devices such NSx700 and NSx600.
Is anybody here using them? If so how would you rate these devices?
    Thanks in advance,
