Low quality printing

Hello,
I just recently started using a iMac vs OSX 10.9.4 with adobe illustrateCS5.  I do sublimation printing, I print to a Ricoh SG 3110 printer.
I have been using an older vs of illustrator on a PC without any problems.  Now when I print all of my designs they are coming out low quality.  I can print the same image from Indesign and from photo shop and they print good, but not illustrator CS5 on a Mac.  Does any one have any suggestions
Thank You
David Baldwin

David,
I wonder whether either of these PDFs may be relevant.

  • Low quality prints from OSX Yosemite

    Hello ladies and gents,
I bought a new colour laser printer yesterday: the Samsung SL-C460WXpress.
I installed the latest OS X drivers and software which I downloaded from the Samsung website. I did the same thing for my Windows machine.
    The problem:
When I print from my MBPR with OS X Yosemite, I have barely any options. I can't select the print quality, I can't select the type of photo paper, I basically miss every single option necessary to make good photo prints. As a result, the photos come out granular and of low quality.
When I print from my Windows machine, I can setup my print properties. E.G. paper type (thick, photo matte, photo glossy, etc.), print quality (normal, photo, etc.) and what not. When I set the properties to 'photo' the prints come out amazing.
I don't want to send back the printer, just because OS X is lacking in functionality. Is there anything I can do? Or am I stuck with eithre Windows, or changing printer?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Yours,
    Danny

Your initial post was very clear.  My response to you was based on your statement of...
When I print from my MBPR with OS X Yosemite, I have barely any options. I can't select the print quality, I can't select the type of photo paper,
My recommendation of contacting the manufacturer and/or reading the user manual still stands if repairing permissions does not work.  On some printer/scanners not all of the printer options work in Yosemite.  Reason why you need to confirm directly from the manufacturer if the user manual does not state so.
kahjot has already provided you w/repairing permissions instructions.

  • M1522 Low Quality Printing From Mac On Network

We have a HP LaserJet M1522nf MFP on our network. It is used by both Macs and PC's without much problem. But the quality from the Macs are really poor verses the Windows running XP or W2K. If I print a web page on the Mac, it looks jaggy & dim, like I've got the printer on lowest quality printing. I print the very same web page from one of the PCs and it comes out beautiful. Crystal clear. I've installed the latest software from HP download site with no change. I've tried printing with generic PS driver with no improvement. I've tried different programs. The problem is not program specific.
PLEASE HELP. I can no longer print documents to my colleague's printer which is a big hinderance to productivity. This is the first HP printer that has given me any problem with cross platform issues.

After trying lots of suggestions from here and the HP forums, I finally called HP and they walked me through the usual steps, which included some manual uninstalls of HP prefs & frameworks then reinstalling the printing software. None of that helped. They finally had me reset the printer to the factory defaults. (Power Up with the Down Arrow and Cancel buttons pressed at the same time) That did the trick. If there were any settings for quality set manually on the printer they only affected the Mac printing AND were not overridden by settings in the Mac print dialog that would suggest that they could be overridden. Seems to me something isn't operating quite like it should.
But... HP helped me fix it and for that I'm grateful.

  • Low quality print warning

Several of my photos I want to use in my book show the yellow triangle with !.
I am warned that the photos will print at a low resolution and or print quality. When I printed the same photos on my epson R1800 the images are sharp, clear and high quality. What am I missing here? the images are jpgs about 1000x1100/500kb in size. Sequential photos taken within a minute of each other either have the alert or they do not, is iphoto 6.0.6 buggy?
Photos imported from pictures folder>photoshop elements folder get the same alert. the photos have several layers.

Actually, the warning in books is triggered at 180 dpi. For prints the trigger point appears to be 140 dpi. You can see them in the iPhoto preference file if you use an application like Pref Setter.
The book is printed at 300 dpi and Apple figures 180 or below is suspect for acceptable print quality so the warning.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can i choose a lower quality print density when printing from firefox on my Mac. I cant move the slider along the scale ( I can when printing from the computer).

I can't change the print density when printing from Firefox. It is set at standard and although there is a "slider button" to use for choosing less or more density, it can't be moved. I can tick "grayscale". I can choose the density when printing from the computer. I have a Mac

I also have this problem where I used to be able to shrink a 2 page doc to a single page. Since upgrade to FF4 it no longer works - but you can choose say 60% and it will work. All used to work fine in FF3

  • All my pdf files can be printed in low quality on my Brother printer but can't print in high quality in the printer menu.

My problem is that all my pdf files can be printed when I choose "low quality printing" in my Brother printer menu but cannot be printed in "high quality". When trying to print in high quality, the documents load in the printer tray and it says 1 document then disappears and 0 document printing is showing. I have some pdf files that I want to print in color in high quality and black and white but I'm unable to do so. It only prints in low quality for both color and black and white.

    Hello,
    1. Please make sure that your Reader is updated to 11.0.09. Go to Help -> Check for Updates.
    2. Also, please check if there is any new update available for your Printer Driver.

  • Print PDF - really low quality?

Is there a way to adjust the quality settings of the PDFs that are output by selecting from the PDF menu on the print screen?
Whenever I do that the PDFs come out really really low quality. I would like them to be as close to the originals as possible, just in PDF form.

    Hi rbi,
    Thanks for the response.
I've done it from a bunch of different applications. Today I tried it from MS Word 08 and MS Excel 08. I'm using the PDF -> "Save as PDF..." option from the print dialogue box. I also have the Acrobat PDF printer and that looks fine but it takes MUCH longer to print (it usually sticks on "Starting Distiller job" for a long time).
    Thanks,

  • Photo quality may be too low to print???? how to fix this

I made a new photo album. a yellow error sign appears in the corner of each photo and says, Photo quality may be too low to print. how can i fix this. THANK YOU

I had the same concerns when I started making my calendars on iPhoto but I went ahead anyway. Unless you are an absolute stickler for perfect photos (i.e., no grain, top quality, etc.) your photos will print just fine even though you get the yellow warning sign. Now, if you can hardly see the photo on your computer, or it's like really badly out of focus, etc., you, of course, not be pleased because WYSIWYG. I've scanned photos in and put them in iPhoto -- and these were very important to me and my family. I added them to the calendars and I was very pleased with the final products. I've probably made 20 calendars and each one has had at least 3 or 4 of the scanned in photos.
Use common sense and if it looks really bad to you, don't use it. If the photo is acceptable to you, it will probably print out just fine.
Good luck - I LOVE these calendars - they make FANTASTIC Christmas gifts.

  • HT1044 Will an iphoto order print with low quality warnings on it?

Will an iphoto order print with low quality warnings on it?

I think so but if you're orderikng large photos they may be a bit fuzzy depending on the pixel dimensions. What are the pixel dimensions of the image giving the warning and what size print are you ordering?
Here are the results of a print test that I ran.  The pixel dimensions are the minimum that won't give a warning for the sizes shown:

  • Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer: Full screen view of lower quality than with PSE 10 and before?!

Upgrading from PSE 10 to 11, I noticed that when I watch my images with the organizer in PSE 11 in full screen view mode (F11), while the images load faster, they are shown in a lower quality than in PSE 10 or any other version of PSE that I owned before. In PSE 11, after the initial viewing in full screen (in the "fit screen" mode), when I click with the mouse on an image to display the "100%" view, there is a delay and the program says "Loading...", after which the 100% view in the full screen mode appears. When I then click another time with the mouse on the image to get back to "fit screen" mode, I get an image of better quality than during the initial view!
So it seems like the program first gives a faster, but lower quality view of the image in full screen mode, and only after the user requests a 100% view, it actually loads the image with full detail, which is then preserved when going back to the "fit screen" view. This is a serious issue for me, because I also use PSE organizer to present my pictures to other people, and I don't want to show them some lower quality versions of my images, but the full quality ones, without having to first choose "100% view" and then go back to "fit screen".
How can I make the PSE 11 organizer give me a full-quality full screen image right away, as this used to be the case in PSE10 and before?
(I have both versions, PSE 11 and PSE 10, now on the same computer and tested this to confirm that the PSE 11 initial full screen view is of lower quality than the PSE 10 one. Also in PSE 10, there is practically no delay for displaying the "100%" view afterwards, indicating that the image was loaded with full detail right away.)

    - Update:
    * Adobe's senior support level has replied to me about this issue as follows:
    "Thank you for contacting Adobe.
When you press the F11 button, Organizer 11 uses the Bicubic
interpolation mainly because it is less processor intensive compared to
Bicubic Sharper, and it helps to create the preview on the fly, rather
than based on the thumbnail cache.
When you zoom out from the 100% view, Elements Organizer uses Bicubic
Sharper. This is because Bicubic Sharper is used for image reduction, so
if the 100% view is larger than the available screen space, it will need
to shrink. The Bicubic Sharper images may look more crisp however, Like
any sharpening algorithm, Bicubic Sharper introduces halos and
edge-enhancement artifacts. Those halos are typically slight, but any
further sharpening (which you'll need when preparing an image for print,
for example) will exaggerate them. This is expected behavior. The
Organizer isn't great for determining exact quality, I recommend you to
use Elements Editor for this purpose.
    Thank you,
    Bobby Johnson,
    Adobe Technical Support."
    * My reply on this to Adobe is:
    "Hello Bobby,
thank you for your reply. Now at least we are talking about the same thing.
Why I am wondering about the choice to use the "Bicubic" algorithm when pressing F11 in PSE 11 is that all previous versions of PSE that I owned (which spans from PSE 6 to PSE 10) did use the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm right away when pressing F11. So apparently Adobe didn't worry about processor intensity of this algorithm then, and computers are getting all the time more powerful.
It is true that in some situations, the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may introduce halos and edge-enhancement artifacts, as you write. On the other hand, especially on smaller resolution screens, the results of the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may look more crisp and lively, while the ones of the "Bicubic" algorithm may look more flat and lack fine detail. This is not only my personal opinion, but as I have brought up this topic in several forums, I can see that I am not alone here.
So assuming that the question about preferring "Bicubic Sharper" or "Bicubic" as a default algorithm when pressing F11 is partly a matter of taste, and partly a matter of the hardware the user has available, why can Abobe not give the user an option to choose which one he/she would prefer? For instance, F11 gives full screen view with "Bicubic" applied, and CTRL+F11 with "Bicubic sharper"? Or make this an option in the preferences?
As I am using the PSE organizer also to present pictures to other people (and I know many people who use it that way too), I would like to show them my pictures as sharp and detail-rich as possible. Therefore, I would highly appreciate an option as described above to be implemented in the PSE 11 organizer via an update. It should be fairly easy from a programming point of view, since both algorithms are already contained in the program anyway."
    * If you support this suggestion of mine as stated above, please also contact Adobe accordingly! The more support requests they get for this, the more likely it is that they will implement this update! You may mention my case number 0184046323 for reference.

  • Just upgraded, low quality warning on all photos?

    Hi All,
Hoping someone can assist me here. Just upgraded to iPhoto 6 and was experimenting with the greeting card function. Apparently, all of my photos (unretouched & uncropped) which are 1704 x 2272 at 180 dpi are too low quality to print reliably. I'm trying to print the images at 5x7 or smaller, and as far as I understand 1704 x 2272 should be adequate, but I get the low quality warning on every picture in my library. I use a Canon Digital Elph S400 at maximum resolution/quality, am I going to need a higher megapixel camera to produce images of sufficient quality for the online printing services? Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jennifer

    Jennifer:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Sound like somethings broken in iPhoto. First run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. Then, if needed, go to your User/Library/Caches folder and delete the iPhoto folder there.
Next, log into another account on your Mac and see if you can create a card and not get the warnings. If so then your primary account has some incompatibility with iPhoto. If you get the warning then it's probably iPhoto and you'll need to reinstall iPhoto. If you do have to reinstall iPhoto you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Be sure to repair disk permissions after the installation and updates.

  • PowerPoint 2007 Notes Pages to PDF = low quality

We're battling a problem here where, when printing a presentation's notes pages from PowerPoint 2007 to PDF, the result has very jagged, low quality font edges. However when printing the same presentation from PowerPoint 2003, the fonts are smooth and perfect. The same result occurs making a PDF with PDF Creator, Nuance PDF Professional 5, etc. BUT, when we print the presentation's notes pages directly to the printer (a Xerox 6060 in this case), the presentation looks perfect as well.
Because of this, I can't tell where to start looking for help, here or Microsoft. I want to think that PowerPoint 2007 is outputting garbage to the PDF Maker, but like I said, when I print the notes pages directly to the printer, it looks fine.
Is there anyone experienced out there that can help shed some light on this issue please?

I assume that 2007 and 2003 of PPT were on different machines. I suspect it is either in the setup of PPT or you are not embedding fonts in the PDF. Be sure you are NOT using the Standard settings file, but select Print or Press.

  • Low Quality Pictures

    Hi,
I have spent several hours working on an iPhoto book.  Several of my pictures are pictures I scanned into iPhoto from a traditional photo.  Anytime I use these pictures, a yellow trianlge with an exclamation mark comes up.  It says the quality of these pictures is low.  Will it look okay if i print the book anyway?
Removing all the pictures isn't really an option since they make up more than 50% of my book.
Thanks for any and all responses!!!!

Looking OK is a personal opinion - no one other that you can make that judgement
What we can say is that if you have the low quality warning the photo quality will not be as good as if you had a higher resolution photo that did not get the warning
In cases where I wanted a photo and had no ability to get a higher resolution photo I have used them
Your best bet would be  scan the photos again using a high enough resolution to have at least 200 DPI for the final print (the warning comes on at either 150 dpi or 180 dpi - there is some confusion about that)

  • IPhoto book low quality warning?

I've created an iPhoto book. I'm ready to buy it but I get a warning that some of the photos are too low quality for the type of book I've chosen. Yet all photos were imported at 300dpi and there's no warning on any one photo that the quality is low. How do I determine which photo(s) are the low quality ones?

digital photos do not have a "DPI" until you select a size to print them - See The Myth of DPI for additional information.
someplace in the book you have places a photo which will not be at least 180 dpi when printed at the size frame you placed it in - if you have carefully gone through the book and do not see and low res warnings it is possible that there is a full page photo behind another full page photo - this can make it difficult to find
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
