Low quality Youtube-videos in Safari

Since the introduction of iOS 7 the quality of YT-videos which are embedded in a website I'm viewing with Safari is very poor (to say the least).
Even when I know for certain the video is available on YT in e.g. 1080p, Safari still only shows it in -I guess- 144 or 240p... And there is NO way to change the settings! (Believe me, I've tried!)
In the YT app the same video plays flawlessly in 1080p, and in previous iOS versions this never was a problem (play the embedded video, switch it to full screen and presto: HQ video at my disposal). I've tried this so far on an iPad 2 3G 16 GB with iOS 7.0.4, an iPhone 5S 16 GB, an iPhone 5S 32 GB, an iPad mini 16 GB and all the iPads (iPad Air I believe and some iPad mini retina's) in my local Apple Premium Reseller and all showed the same behaviour.
Embedded videos from e.g. Vimeo are shown in a nice HQ/HD quality, and the YouTube app also works flawlessly, so why (WHY!) is this a problem?? Is it Safari? Is it a (hidden) setting? Am I doing something wrong (can't imagine that I am!)? Or is it a bug in iOS 7?
I'm really looking forward to an official Apple response on this matter!

It both happens on WiFi and 3G/4G connections. I have an Airport Extreme 5th gen. router which connects with my iOS devices (preferably through the 5GHz network, but also 2,4GHz if necessary). I also have an 50 Mbit/s FttH connection which works perfectly. In speedtests online I always get around 45-50 Mbit for up- and download, so the internetspeed isn't the problem here.
It doesn't happen when I use Chrome on the iPad, nor any other browser.
And there is no "toothed wheel" when viewing embedded YT-videos on Safari... there never was.

  • Low Quality Youtube video

I purchased my Blackberry storm on the release date and the first thing I did was go to youtube and see how the videos looked. The answer is... terrible, and the audio is pretty bad too. I have downloaded all the updates for my Storm and the youtube videos still look just as bad. However, whenever I play videos from my media card the quality is amazing. So basically I have two questions.
    1. Does everyone experience this low quality issue or is there something wrong with my blackberry/internet connection?
    2. Is there anyway to fix it, or plans to release an update in the future to do so?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well I've the same problem but when I surfed the internet I found that I must clear the browser cache then reboot the device
Try it ... I didn't work on my blackberry curve 9320 .... it may work on you
    Hope this helped

  • Am I the only one getting bad quality youtube videos when running on LTE? When I'm on wifi they seem fine but I switch to lte it looks bad on the youtube app and on safari.

I've never had any problems with mine ever. The only freeze I've had was from a file I recorded on tivo, cut commericals out in movie maker and then re-encoded to the lowest possible bit rate that that zens nati've resolution supports. Try turning your sensitivity in the touch pad down. Sometimes if you have it up to high you may have a chance of doing that (although I have only had slow response, instead of a freeze by doing that).
You also have to compare to all of the other products out there: Ipod and Zune are a lot worse with pathetic little problems (annoyances). I didn't pay for tech support?

  • Is it possible to play youtube video in safari browser on WiFi in iOS devices ?

    Hello Support,
I have a query regarding playing you tube videos in iOS devices (like iphone, ipad). I can able to play youtube videos in safari browser in iphone on 3G data connection but can not play the same video on WiFi. I am facing the same issue in the youtube iOS application also. Is it possible to play youtube video on WiFi in iOS devices ? Please help me to fix this issue.
    Thanks

My understanding is that you should definitely be able to play youtube videos using a Wi-Fi network. To me, it sounds as though the issue may be more network related as the videos will work over cellular data. I have a couple questions I believe could help narrow down the exact issue:
    • Is the device able to browse to other websites while connected to Wi-Fi, or will no sites work?
    • Are there other devices (iPads, iPhones, computers, etc) that work on the same Wi-Fi network?

  • Why cant see youtube video in safari

sombody can tell me how can see youtube video in safari?

If you can't stream YouTube content try troubleshooting the Flash plugin.
    Quit Safari.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin before reinstalling.
If you are running v10.7 Lion open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
If you aren't running v10.7 Lion, skip that step.
Now launch Safari.  From your Safari menu bar top of your screen, click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
When you post for help, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed.  Troubleshooting suggestions may be based on that information. Thanks

  • Can't play YouTube videos on Safari

Hi I can't play YouTube videos on Safari any more. I have noticed that I can play videos on Safari but not on YouTube. When atempting to watch a video on You Tube it won't finish loading. It appears to load at first evenutally stops before the video can play. I then receive the "Plug-in Failure" message.
I am using Safari 5.1.7 on Mac OS X 10.7.4.
I believe I am using the latest version of Abobe Flash Player, which I downloaded when I first noticed the problem.
Please note I do not wish change to a different web browser. Thanks for reading.

Yes, but I could be mistaken. Below is the version of Flash Player I am using:

  • High-quality YouTube videos keep crashing.  What should I do???

Whenever I open a higher quality youtube video on ipad, it plays for a couple of seconds and then it crashes and sends me back to the Home screen.  I tried to updating it to the latest version of iOS about a week and a half ago, and that helped at first.  Now it's starting to do it again.  Any suggestions?  Is this happening to anyone else?

iPad video is limited to 720p video.
If the problem videos are 1080p, the iPad may have trouble with or crash the YouTube app.
I am assuming you are using the YouTube app on the iPad?
There are apps that claim to run 1080p video on iPad, but these apps produce their own issues, video artifacts and problems and aren't very reliable as a solution to watching higher resolution video on iPad.
Maybe future versions of iPad will be able to handle higher quality video, but for now, it's not possible.

  • Hi. I just bought my very first mac. I cant get to see youtube videos using safari. it says to upgrade my flashplayer. do I have to download the flashplayer? doesnt safari has it installed?

hi. I just bought my very first mac. I cant get to see youtube videos using safari. it says to upgrade my flashplayer. do I have to download the flashplayer?

It's no longer pre-installed for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is Adobe Flash requires such frequent security updates that any version installed at the factory is pretty much garunteed to be dangerously out of date by the time you get the machine in your hands.
Just go to adobe.com and download the latest version of flash player.

  • YouTube Videos on Safari automatically start to reload once iMAC is logged in

    Hello there,
I have an issue bothering you since I upgraded my iMAC to Lion OS, hope you can help.
Well previously when I had Snow Leopard as my OS, I could open Safari & view Youtube videos & in fact could have many Tabs in a Safari window, each having a unique YouTube video. Once I finished watching the videos, they could stay there if even the system logged out or went to sleep ... and when I would re-login  all the videos which were completely displayed would remain there & I could watch them rightawat again without having to reload them from Internet. Since I upgraded to Lion, whenever I view YouTube videos in Safari (one unique video on each tabbed page), they would remain there until the system remains logged in ... however if the system automatically logs out (due to prolonged in-activity) or goes to sleep and when I re-login then all the videos which were viewed already would automatically start to reload again.
This is really frustrating, can you please guide if its some configuration issue? I reckon the videos which once gets into Safari cache should remain there (as was the case in Snow Leopard) but apparently Safari initiates a fresh reload once the system is logged-in & unnecessarily starts downloading vides again.
    Can you advise the solution?
    Thanks.
    MSZ

Nevermind. I gave up and moved to Chrome. Having a much better time now, no worries.
But hey, if you want to answer this question for anyone else that might have this problem, then by all means go ahead.

  • Hello my MacBook is crashing when I watch Youtube videos. Safari and Flash Player are updated.

    Hello,
My MacBook is crashing when I watch Youtube videos. Safari and Flash Player are updated.
    What is the problem?
It will be necessary to take him on a technical assistance?
    thank you

Have you tried an alternate browser to see if the same issue happens? Try Firefox or Chrome. Chrome has Flash embedded in it, so if it doesn't work, it's probably not a Flash issue. FIrefox is at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and Chrome is at https://www.google.com/chrome .
Another thing to try is to sign up for HTML5 video from Youtube. See http://www.youtube.com/html5

  • Youtube videos on Safari appear on the left of the window.

As the title states, Youtube videos on Safari appear on the left of the window.
I can't remember doing anything that might have caused this - it was not always like this.
Take a look at this screenshot.
It does not happen when using Chrome or Firefox.
This is very furstrating as on the 27" iMac the video is on the very left side of a very large screen making it
hard to watch unless I move the whole window to the right or enable full-screen which I don't always want to do.
I have emptied Safari's cache but the problem is still there.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I had already tried setting off the extensions but it didn't do anything.
I had also thought of clearing Cookies & other website data but for some reason I decided that that could not solve the problem! Well, it did! Thanks andyBall_uk

  • Youtube videos in Safari

Hi, I don´t know whether this belongs here, but I want to ask it anyway. On my PC I´m using windows 7 and I use Safari as my main web browser. But after I updated to a new version of safari I experience problems with youtube videos. I am unable to maximize them to "full screen" mode. I simply click on that button but nothing happens. I found out that this happens only when there´s not video quality 480p available. When there´s that option, everything works normally, but when there´s just 240p,360p,720p or 1080p, videos simply don´t work on full screen.
I tried to play that videos on mozilla firefox, as well, and everything worked normally.
I have the newest version of safari (5.34.52.7) , when I used older version (5.33.18.5) everything was fine.
I´d like to solve this, because it´s quite annoying.
    Thanks for help

Most YouTube  content requires the Flash plugin. Try uninstalling your current copy of Flash then reinstall new.
    Uninstall Flash Player | Windows
Reinstall from here >  Install a different version of Adobe Flash Player
And empty the cache. Ctrl + Alt + E

  • Force higher quality Youtube video over EDGE?

When you're using EDGE the YouTube videos automatically get bumped down to a lower quality/highly compressed version to allow for them to stream quicker. Is there a way to force it to stream the higher quality version it uses when you're using an 802.11b connection? Obviously it'll be much slower, but for some videos it'd be worth the wait for some extra quality.

The YouTube videos are encoded using H.264 which, when streaming, the video quality is based on your data transfer rate (connection speed). Therefore the faster connection you have the better quality videos you're going to get served up.
