Low RAM

Using pavilion a1510n with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.  System Info shows processor is X86 (32 bit).  Norton diagnostic report says "ram is low."  When I go to real estate sites, sometimes I am unable to view 360 videos.  Also, many videos stop and start due to buffering.
What would be Part Number(s) etc. of  the recommended memory board(s) I could choose from when I order from HP or go to Best Buy and purchase?

If not enough RAM really is your problem, you can get good prices for second hand RAM DIMMs from ebay, about half the price you'd pay for cheap new stuff.  I bought some 1GB DIMMs for my system and no problems (yet !)
Try using memory 'configurator' at Crucial, Corsair and Kingston webites to get a precise idea of what they 'guarantee' to work in your particular system.

  • Low RAM space after Yosemite update...

My mac has been experiencing low RAM space after the Yosemite update... I have a MacBook pro retina display 13" with an 8GB RAM. I also have RAM cleaning softwares but they don't seem to help much... How do I solve this?

Decreasing RAM space doesn't tell you much because of the way OS X is supposed to work (using nearly all available RAM).
Does your Mac slow down significantly?

  • How to solve the problem me low Ram on C6-00?

My nokia C6-00 is just 22 days old.I have been facing a lot of problems due to low ram.120MB for a smart phone is quite so low. When I use it for apps like IBN LIVE here in India it just asks to close some applications since memory is full!So I need to leave what I had been doing and use ramblow or mobile guard to free up memory and come back to it.It it cant handle multitasking what kind of a smart phone is this?Any suggestion of a good ram booster or memory booster?
In Love With My C6-01:Now running on Nokia Belle!

OK, don't get desperate... I think I found a little help, but yes, I'm aware that our device has serious problems with its RAM memory.
Step 1: upgrade software to v.40.2.021 (or a newer one if that exists).
Step 2: disable the automatic key lock (you better enable/disable it manually)
Step 3: disable touch screen vibrations and sounds (have you noticed that our device responds better and faster when you put it on 'silence' mode?).
Step 4: Use the RAMblow Pro application and, very important: enable the memory boost option. I'm not using the automatic option. I put the RAMblow widget on main screen and use it manually, several times a day.
Step 5: Don't use NetQin antivirus nor Mobile Guard. They are good, but they consume a lot or RAM memory. I'm using Kaspersky right now and it's working fine (the problem is that it's not for free).
My free RAM memory has increased and now my cell phone is not hangin like it used before.
If you find other ways of improving our device performance, please tell me.
    Greetings.

  • Lower RAM slot damage caused by 3rd party RAM?

I took my 1.33 ghz 15" powerbook G4 in to be repaired this past Friday. The lower RAM slot was not working (as a note, this slot contained the original RAM that came from Apple). Upon noticing that 256 megs I had in there was missing from system profiler, I removed the 3rd party 512 RAM and placed the 256 Apple RAM there, I placed the 512 meg card in the other slot, and then 512 megs were missing when I booted up. Clearly both sticks of RAM worked, the problem was the slot. I took it into Apple.
They called me today to tell me the system was repaired. They also told me something that I don't believe and don't even think is possible: The 3rd party RAM is what caused the problem. The reasons I don't believe this? I have never heard of faulty RAM breaking a RAM slot in my life, it just doesn't work. Also, the RAM worked in there for a long time prior to it not working. I have also heard of a system update which breaks the lower RAM slot, and Apple issuing a recall on a range of powerbooks as a result to replace the motherboard. True, my powerbook is not in the range of serial numbers, but I also know that there are many people who have this problem that are not in the range Apple has recalled.
The RAM was installed free of charge at the store I bought it from (a non-Apple mac store in Los Angeles). It was never removed until I noticed that the RAM was not being detected, and it was the slot, not the RAM that proved defective.
What do you guys think? Could that have legitimately been the problem? Or did Apple just not know what was wrong, fixed the board, and made that up in the hopes of getting me to buy some overpriced Apple RAM?

Hey, whatever mod deleted the reply to this and my subsequent reply to that, why don't you tell me an accurate response? Tell me exactly how working RAM could break the RAM slot it wasn't even plugged into.
Otherwise, Apple is telling a bunch of bull and refusing to admit to a product flaw. Why delete a post speculating on such an issue? All it does is lend credence to the speculation. I believe that it is the case all the more now that you have deleted the posts.

  • Whats all needed to remove to change the lower RAM?

I ordered a 256 Meg low profile ram chip for my lombard. I was gonna pop it in the top slot but i figure might as well do the bottom one. I know u have to use a credit card or soemthing plastic and flat to raise the processer board and remove the lower RAM and put the new one in and i guess put the 64 MEG chip in the top slot for now. Some instructions i seen online require removing the model, PRAM battery and hardrive in order to do this. Whats is needed exactly? These instructions were from pbfixit.com. I dont see why the modem is needed but maybe i am not seeing something. I could just put it in the top slot but eventually i will have to do the bottom so might as well now.

The PowerBook FixIt guides are a little elaborate, all you will need to do is lift the processor card after lifting the keyboard, removing the upper metal shield and the screws holding the card down (if it has the plastic tab still attached pull it while GENTLY levering with a plastic item). Install the RAM and then refit the processor card pressing down FIRMLY on the connector area. Finally install the top RAM.
Make sure you ground yourself by touching the 'Book's metal frame before starting and don't do the upgrade while stood on carpet or sat in a chair that has an artificial covering if you can help it.
I believe the Lombard only has a small heatsink so you shouldn't need to remove it before removing the processor card and I've never had to remove any of the other parts to fit lower RAM..

  • Lower RAM defect after upgrading to 10.4.4

I have an early model Aluminum Powerbook G4 (1Ghz) and now have the lower
ram slot problem. I do feel the problem potentially exists in all the Aluminum 15" models. It's quite amazing how many things have happens since getting this powerbook. First battery problems (recall), then screen problems (extended warranty offered-took awhile thought) and now this. Does anyone
know if the replacement logic boards being offered are any less prone to
give out? It would be a drag to pay and have it breakdown again (of course after
    any warranty period).

I'm beginning to think this is a software problem related to Tiger. It seem to me, nearly everyone with this issue experienced this "lower slot" problem when upgrading to 10.4x.
I am still on Panther 10.3.9, and I recently upgraded my lower slot memory, taking out the stock 256MB module, and putting in a 512MB one. It's early days, but it's working fine, and system profiler is recognizing the new 512MB RAM in the lower slot.
You actually had the lower slot stop working, AFTER you upgraded to 10.4.4.? Sounds like I could be onto something! Are you listening Apple!!
The problem seems to be worse in the newer machines (1.67 and the newer hi res models), but now it seems, that anyone with an Aluminium 15" Powerbook can get the problem.
I heard of one guy having 4 different logic boards in his Powerbook, so it doesn't seem to me to be the solution to the problem! Until Apple actually find the proper cause, and fix it, I certainly won't be upgrading to 10.4, just to be on the safe side.

  • Powerbook G4 15in 1.5GHz Dead Lower Ram Slot

My Powerbook G4 has a bad lower Ram slot, but the problem is intermittant. If I put both 512mb ram in and start up, sometimes I get the 3 beebs and sometimes it will boot and show a full 1gb ram but locks up moments later.
I've been running on 512mb and it is not fun!
I can not afford a new logic board or a new mac. I am a web designer and need my PB for work.
How can Apple not Recall these machines and fix them?

Did the 2 RAM modules come with your Mac? Have you tried swapping the RAM modules to opposite slots and do you get the same failure in that slot? Make sure the modules are securely connected in the slot.
To eliminate RAM modules being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.

  • What gives? Lower RAM slot Fail!

I recently had an unrelated problem with my 15 G4 1.67 powerbook and noticed the lower ram slot failed.
I then found out I missed apple's extended repair program by a few weeks! What are my options here?
Will it hurt to just run the top slot without a ram chip in the bottom? Does apple still do these repairs?
is it going to be a 800 dollar logic board replacement... ughh

First, the cheapest solution is to run with a 1GB memory strip in the working slot. There have not been issues with that slot failing, like the lower slot, and it won't hurt your system to run that way.
Next, you can find vendors on the internet that claim to repair the lower slot. You can scan the discussions for a recommended vendor (as well as there's at least one you probably want to avoid).
Next you can replace the logic board. In the US, your Apple dealer can send your system to an Apple depot, where the minimum charge is around $350 to set your system basically to it's as delivered condition. If the case is dented and has to be replaced, the price goes up. We recently had to do this when the charging circuit of our logic board failed, and they also replaced the old battery too, as part of the service. An ~$800 quote to replace a logic board is if it's done in the store itself.
If you're handy with the inside of a computer, you can buy a board and replace it yourself. However, the cost is equal to or higher than using the Apple depot repair service.

  • Low RAM memory ipod4 iOS6.1.3

My ipod has normally only 4-5mb ram space according to battery doctor. Thats why maybe many apps crash or stop when I start it. I need a solution. have one?

That message is probably low storage space...if you are reaching the storage limit all you can do is remove contant to open up more space.  You can either delete material, such as large video files you don't need, or remove photos and tunes to a computer for storage if you do not need them on the iPod.
To deal with low memory if that does occur, reboot the iPod by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider it that appears.
Double click the home button and hold an app that appears along the bottom dock until they all start to vibrate and a red circle with a minus sign appears on each.  Touch those red circles to dismiss the apps so you are sure there are no apps running in the background using memory space.

  • Low Ram usage?

Hey all, so I've been keeping an eye on how much ram FCX has been using and it's... really low.
Is this normal? I assumed it would use a ton but it's barely using 2gb of ram any given time I check it in Activity Moniter.
I have 16gigs installed on my Mac Pro 1,1 for the record.
Is there something I am missing here?

The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.

  • IPhone hot - battery dropping fast - low RAM despite no apps open

    Hi,
I have a 4S running on iOS 7.0.4. The iPhone sometimes gets extremely hot and I can practically watch its battery power drain. I noticed that AWAYS when this happens, free RAM is low (typically below 20 MB), so it could be some page treshing bug in iOS of kind.
I say bug in iOS because this happens even if I do not have any third party apps open (mostly use iBooks, Email and Calendar). And yes, background app refresh is off, as is iCloud and Siri.
I can temporarily fix the problem using the "Battery" utility to detect RAM memory usage, I use it to reallocate memory when its low. The Battery utility typically will free memory towards 150 to 220 MB. Once that's done, the battery drain stops and the iPhone starts cooling down.
The frustrating thing is that in the background - even when I do nothing but use iBooks - free RAM steadily will go down in a matter of minutes! The cycle starts over: RAM usage goes up and once it falls below 20 MB, the iPhone will get hot, I notice, re-allocate memory, iPhone cools down, etc etc.
    My questions:
    1. Is there any App or iOS setting which outomatically frees unused RAM memory (without me manually runnung the "Battery" utility)?
2, Where can I see which App or system process eats up the free memory?
    Many thanks,
    HJ

Take it back. There's definitely a problem.

  • Possible RAM Solution -Upper/Lower RAM not being recognized for Al 1.25

I was poking around on my 1.25Ghz Al pb (seemed sluggish) with 1.25 GB RAM, when I noticed that only 1 GB was being recognized. I had a 256 MB chip in the lower slot and a 1 GB in the upper. I accessed the RAM bay and reseated both chips. Upon rebooting, 1GB was still only being recognized (I was very, very thourough on the reseating, spent 5-10 minutes on it) Panic was starting to set in, whether the 256 went south (best possible outcome) or the lower slot was borked. I decided to test the lower slot and swap the RAM positions. I reseated with the exact same care, and prepped a reboot. Upon rebooting, all was restored. 1.25 GB was recognized, and all was well with the the universe. Any ideas as to what had happened? When I swapped the RAM chips, did it get reassociated with the OS? Had the 256MB chip lost it's relationship with the logic board?

  • Lower RAM score in Z77A-GD55 compared to P55A-GD65?

Just another issue i want to clarify when using this board. Using Team Xtreme RAM PC12800 7-7-7-21 4GB with BIOS 1.3 and 3570K OCed to 4.2Ghz:
    1. The Read performance of 2T is clearly faster than 1T Command Rate. It was dropped from 19000MB/s(2T) to 13000MB/s (1T) What gives?
    2. The WEI score for my RAM is only 5.9? Huh? it was 7.9 when i'm using my old P55-GD65 with same RAM and Core i5 750. Again, what gives? have tried to re-run it but no change. Other score is inline but the WEI RAM score is way lower than it was before. Command Rate changes won't fix this score. The weird thing is the RAM performance score in AIDA actually is inline with previous result on the P55 board i had. So i know it might be a software issue but still, just to make sure if there's any issue with anything that might causes this.
Hope somebody can give me any enlightenment or any trick.
    My previous setup was:
    1. Core i5 750 @3.6Ghz
    2. P55A-GD65
    3. RAID 0+1 Matrix 500GB WD

WEI means diddly squad and its just a bunch of numbers.
Does your system feel slower, do things take more time to load or something similar, then by all means continue your search, if not, leave it!, as said WEI means nothing!
Same goes for benches, they mean nothing, unless you are a numberfreak and like to watch the numbers get higher and higher.
Is all about how you experience your computer, not about some silly program that churnes out a number.
Yes i know, but doesn't the same applies for overclocking too? just to satisfy that need of higher number so yeah..

  • 1.25 GHz Lower Ram Slot not working

I've got a 15" G4 1.25GHz. When I went to upgrade my RAM (I use Samsung) I noticed my lower slot is dead. I don't know how long it's been that way. I see others who've posted the same issue, and all mention that Apple knows about it and has documentation on it. Can someone point me to that? I've had this thing 3 years and had to replace the battery twice and the power adapter 3 times. Now this...not too impressive.
