Low Resolution Address Book Dock Icon

A friend of mine had managed to trash Address Book so I reinstalled it using "Optional Installs" from the iMac Mac OS X Install DVD.
Install was successful but when I add the Address Book icon to the dock it looks blurry and slightly pixelated. The Address Book icon in Finder is normal.

Roger,
Right click on the Applications Folder in the Dock, and select: Display as Folder.

  • Low resolution+iphoto book 2008

    Good evening!
I am creating a photo book for my girlfriend. Some of the pictures were showing a warning sign: "This photo may print at too low of a quality". I tried to download her pictures by maximizing the quality, but the warning sign is still there. Is there any program which can help to increase the resolution of my pictures?
    Thank you!

Perfect, Thanks a lot for the information! It is really useful...
If my picture is 1,600 width x 1,200 height pixels and I want to print it on a 8,5"x11" paper, do you think it is feasible?
Yes - but it is your decision
You are saying that to print on a 8.5 x 11" paper, I will need a minimum of 1530 x 1980 dpi. Where can I check the level of dpi for each pictures?
All photos with no warning are 180 dpi or greater
to look at any photo select the photo and look at the information pane in the lower right hand corner of the iPhoto window (if it is not there click the little blue "i" to add it)

  • How do I import address book from time machine backup

My address book was populated on an imac running Lion and I used time machine to back up to an external hard drive.
The imac crashed and I've purchased another one running  Mavericks.
How do I import the contents of my address book from the backup on the external drive to the address book on the new imac?
Whenever I try to select or open an earlier version of the address book in the backup applications folder on the external drive, I get a message saying that I can't open the file because it is a time machine backup.
There is also a diagonal line going through the address book thumbnail icon and various other applications in the backup applications folder and I get the same error message informing that these apps are time machine backups.
If you have a solution please be as clear and precise as possible with instructions as I am not a computer boffin.

    Here's the situation:
I have a G4 with Tiger OS that has 2 years of saved emails and Address Book entries. I just got a G5, installed brand new drives, and did a fresh install of Leopard. I did not use Migration Assistant during the install, because I have no router.
Then I connected the 2 'puters with firewire, and started the G4 in Target Mode, and attempted to Import my old mail and Address Book. I diddled around and was able to import my old mailboxes. I did just realize, though, that only about half the emails were imported; there's a huge gap of nearly a year up until I stopped using the G4.
Also, when I go to the Address Book and try to import my old one, it shows up not as a solid icon that I can select, but a ghostly icon, for lack of a better word, and it will not let me select it.
I really thought this should be easier and less painful. I'm open to suggestions, including whether I should try to use the Leopard install DVD to try the Migration Assistant with a Firewire connection or an ethernet cable.
    Thanks.

  • Address book: can't select iPhoto faces

Supposedly, I can double click the picture in a contact in address book, then click the Faces icon at the bottom left to browse from my iPhoto library.
However, in my address book, that icon is always greyed out.
Any ideas why that might be?
    Regards,
    Gabriel.

I have wasted time on this. It works for some faces, not others. I get some faces into Mail, not others. This seems to be yet another glitch in Lion (like my wretched mouse which has, yet again, disconnected for the second time during this message. It would help if Apple would say something about these problems, even if its just "hello").

  • My address book and iPhone pics have become low resolution.  Is there a way I can prevent this from happening when I start out with a higher resolution picture?

I guess I squeezed my entire issue into the subject line.  lol   When I sync my iphone to my laptop I notice that all my address book pics and iphone pics have become lower resolution, even though I started out with the resolution that I really needed to produce decenty address book printouts.  I doubt I can correct the losses of resolution that have occurred but can anyone help me figure out how to prevent future losses?  Thank you!

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

  • Applications Icon in Dock looks like Address Book

    Hi -
I'm suspicious about why my Applcations icon in the dock doesnt look like the Applications icon in the Finder window. Instead it looks like the Address Book with something hiding behind it. Really!
    Is this correct?
If not, how do I remedy this?
    Thanks,
    J2

I believe you have the folder set to "Display as Stack". In this display mode the dock icon tries to show you the icon representing the topmost object in the folder, which is usually Address Book in the case of the Applications folder. You can have the dock display the Applications folder as just a folder by clicking and holding the button down on the Applications dock icon (or control clicking on it) and selecting that option in the list of options that appears.

  • IPhoto dock icon displays in low resolution

I update iPhoto the other day, prompted by software update, and since then the iphoto dock icon is very noticeably low resolution.  I deleted iPhoto and reinstalled it to no effect.  Any ideas what is going on?

Sorry but the Dock icon is a system issue - it has nothing to do with iPhoto
Typically it is just an alaisis and you can drag it to the trash then launch iPhoto and while it is running right click on the icon in the Dock and select keep in dock
As always be sure you have a good up to date backup prior to messing with your system

  • Some dock icons have low resolution?

Some of the icons on the dock bar have low resolution while others are ok.  In the attached pic, the Chrome, Iphoto and Excell icons have low .  When I reset the iMac, then there are different icons with low res.   It is not affecting functionality but I wonder if something is wrong or corrupt.
    thanks,

Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.

  • The icons on the dock (and some other places) sometimes appear in low resolution, I'm running Lion on my iMac and Snow Leopard on my Macbook pro, got the same problem on both, anyone?

A few days ago I noticed that safari icon was in "low resolution", so then I deleted and put a new one in place, but after tahat I've been notice that otheres are doing the same, on my macbook pro (running snow leopard) the things are worse, sometimes even the shortcuts to applications and downloads show with the same problem. Could this be a virus???

    Likely a corrupted cache file

  • HELP-lost address book in dock

I know this must seem trivial to most of you but I'm trying everything I know to get back the address book icon in my dock. Please let it be simple to fix. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Glad I can help. You can also drag apps off of the doc where they disappear in a puff of smoke, but not while the app is open. An open app is always in the doc.
If you open an app that didn't have a dock icon beforehand it will show up at the end of the Dock on the right, just to the left of the partition. When you quit that program it will disappear from the Dock. If you want to keep it on the dock drag and drop it to another position and it will stay there after quitting the app.

  • Low Res Safari and App Store Dock Icons

After upgrading Safari to v5.1.4 earlier today I've noticed that the Safari and App Store icons on the dock are pixelated, i.e., low resolution.  Has anyone else seen this problem?  The Disk Utility icon also shows the same behavior.

    Hi Ray ..
    Might be corrupted preferences...
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.dock.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • I have a "?" on my address book icon.

I have a "?" on my address book icon and it won't open. I am syncing to mobile me. My iPhone and iPad contacts still are there. ideas?

That means that the Address Book application has either been moved, renamed, or deleted from its original location. Drag the icon out of the dock (that won't do anything to the application itself) then go to your Applications folder and find the Address Book app. Once you've found it, just drag the icon back into the dock where you want it.

  • Application icon becoming Address Book when "Stacked"

my problem is simple: when i move my Applications folder down to the dock so that i can use it as a stack, its icon changes to the Address Book.
the first time i click the Application icon, it does not open. the second time, it opens but the icon becomes the Address Book icon.
i had an icon i had assigned to Applications when this first happened, but i have changed it a number of times, even copying icons from just a plain Leopard light blue folder, but it still changes to the Address Book icon.
    any thoughts?

As long as the folder is not empty, any stack in the Dock will display the first item in that folder. In this case, your first Application is Address Book, so it looks like address book. Same goes with your downloads folder. I have 3 stacks in my Dock that all look like folders, but that's because the stack's first level only contains folders.
I think Apple's first mistake was allowing folders to look like Application icons. This should never happen. It's not only visually busy, but also potentially confusing for new users. The downloads folder I can live with, but with Applications, it should display the Applications logo (or the folder) with a mess of Applications behind it. I could live with that.
