Low resolution idvd's

When I burn a dvd from Aperture the pictures are sharp and clear on my hi-def MacBook Pro 17"screen. When I burn a dvd through idvd it is not a picture I'd show anyone. I told at least 3, one to one instructors, I planned to duplicate dvds to sell. None of them thought to mention that the idvd res would be embarrassingly low. For other problems they had me clear the HD and reinstall everything
I have read on some threads that all dvds are bad. Not so from Aperture.
Is there no way to get good Aperture quality (RAW exported as full JPEG) via idvd? Has Apple no pride in their product?
I am fully up to date on all software on the machine.
Also the screen size when I playback from dvd is very small. Is this a clue to operator error.
Please be gentle, I am an old retired guy and this all hard to understand.
Thank you.

Wow what q barrage of information. I read it all. Not sure I understood.
I have NOT made a slideshow from aperture to a dvd.
I have made dvds of groups of pictures via file>export>versions, select the dvdas destination and click burn. To the uninitiated,as I, it seemed, if a dvd can contain information that will replicate the original then idvd should be able to do the same. I finally think I get that point.
Yes I viewsed the dvd on my old tv, it looked bad. Much worse than a purchased video dvd.
I didn't expect my dvd to look soooo terriable via dvd player on my computer. I mean so terriable I can't believe anyone whould ever use this medium for stills or video and that apple really sells anything making such terriable pictures. Shouldn't the pictures look as good as a movie played on the dvd player?
I still think I or the computer are making a mistake somewhere. My pictures don't look as good as the idvd tutorial. Don't you think they should?
You asked how to get Aperture pictures to idvd: choose media and the projects from aperture come up. From there I select the album that I created (in aperture) to be part of my dvd. As others have stated that once this is done and you check the created dvd the pictures look good. Once burned the pictures are too embarrassing to show. I'm shooting RAW with 10.1 MP and love what I see in aperture.
Options I understand to be:
-A $1000 Adobe program.
-A $129 program fotomagicio.
-Hire someone with a good program to do final assembly and burn of a master. (Now I am assuming that the master can be reproduced to multiple dvds with high quality.)
-Try out this automator thingy that says it is not guaranteed and seems pushing new limits on my computer skills.
-Trade the camera and computer for power tools and take up a new retirement plan.
Other than that I need more education as to how all this information gets recorded and duplicated.
So much for the all gain, no pain, easy with professional looks that apple promotes.
Call me discouraged, and I do thank you. This is the best support I have received on any of my apple hard or software.

  • Slideshow - stretched image + low resolution

    Hi guys,
I have a wide screen that runs at 1440x900. I have my slideshows configured not to "scale image to fit screen" as my images are in 4:3 aspect and scaling it to fit the wide screen makes everyone look fat...
Viewing a quick slideshow from Finder or Preview works correctly, i.e. the photo fits in the screen's hight, with black down the sides.
When I start a slide show in iPhoto (6 and 08), it switches down to 1280x800, and seems to ignore the "scale image to fit screen" setting being set to "off" - so the images are all stretched sideways.
I suspected at first that it might be a video RAM issue, but the G4 Mini has 32MB dedicated video RAM, and the slideshow works fine (without switching to a lower resolution) in Finder and Preview.
I found one other post, posted in the iPhoto 5 section, with no responses:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5155628&#5155628
Is anyone else seeing this? Is there a way to force iPhoto to leave the resolution alone and obey my scaling wishes?
    Thanks

    koffiejunkie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The three options I have for format are: Current display, 4:3 (iDVD, TV) and Widescreen 16:9. The 4:3 option puts black bars on either side and pins the height. The 16:9 option put black all around the image. Do either of these work for you?
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto, reset the preferences and try again.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • My address book and iPhone pics have become low resolution.  Is there a way I can prevent this from happening when I start out with a higher resolution picture?

I guess I squeezed my entire issue into the subject line.  lol   When I sync my iphone to my laptop I notice that all my address book pics and iphone pics have become lower resolution, even though I started out with the resolution that I really needed to produce decenty address book printouts.  I doubt I can correct the losses of resolution that have occurred but can anyone help me figure out how to prevent future losses?  Thank you!

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

  • I transferred some photos to my iphone via email and they come up in camera roll as low resolution.  How do I fix this?

I transferred some photos to my iphone via email and they have very low resolution.  First I sent them from iPhoto with highest resolution, then I transferred them to my desktop in highest resolution and added them to an email, opened the email and saved to my Camera roll.  They all look like low resolution photos. This is the exact method I have used to transfer photos in the past with my 4S and never had a problem.  What am I doing wrong?  Is this a bad camera?  HELP please!  Thank you!

My husband has the same phone, we purchased them at the same time.  I sent him the same photos in the same email that I downloaded them from and on his phone they show up with the normal higher resolution.  Is it possible that there is something wrong with my iPhone or is there a setting that can be changed?  I'm still learning to use it.  All my other photos are of normal resolution.  Does this make any sense to anyone?
    Please help!

  • [SOLVED]Terminal at Lower Resolution

    Hello,
I am on Arch linux with Gnome (GDM) and I have a question-
    1. When there was no Gnome. I couldn't get my resolution to be my native one. That login screen text was huge(resolution was low). Initially it was all good(when I was using nouveau), till I installed nvidia-340xx. If it makes sense. How to know if I have Optimus enabled ? (I didn't follow optimus part of the wiki and I ASSUMED I don't have optimus)My laptop is Toshiba Satellite - A665-S6070

Transitioning from nouveau may cause your startup terminal to display at a lower resolution. For GRUB, see GRUB/Tips and tricks#Setting the framebuffer resolution for details.

    Did you install uvesafb?
    Install v86d from AUR
This was my first time installing from AUR so I think I installed it, "pacman -Q v86d" gives me output "v86d 0.1.10-5".
    Prepare the system
Remove any framebuffer-related kernel boot parameter from the bootloader configuration to disable the old vesafb framebuffer from loading.
    $ grep vga /proc/cmdline
    $ grep -ir vga /etc/modprobe.d/
Should return no results. If you do have a vga= option somewhere, you will need to remove it.
    It didn't
    GRUB
    Note: This might not work.
First edit /etc/default/grub commenting the GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep line.
Then regenerate grub.cfg via the standard script:
    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    Did this
Then I also configured the file /usr/lib/modprobe.d/uvesafb.conf: (It wasn't empty) , so yeah. I think I installed it.Is there any other way to check ?

  • Satellite P500 - Splinter Cell is very slow - low resolution

    Hey guys,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P500.
    CPU Intel Core2 Quad processor Q9000 (2.0GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6MB L2 Cache)
Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (includes recovery partition for Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit)
    Screen Size 18.4" Widescreen HD+ TruBrite Display (1680 x 945), supports 720p
    Memory 4GB DDR2 (2GB + 2GB) (800MHz) expandable to 8GB
    Storage 1000GB (500GB + 500GB) (5400rpm) SATA
Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (2286MB Total: 1GB discrete memory + 1262MB shared memory with ATI HyperMemory technology)
Optical Disc Drive DVD SuperMulti Double/Dual Layer
Now im trying to play games like, Splinter Cell Convictions and things of that sort, apparently, according to the Games website, i meet all the recommended specs. Yet when i play the game its on a very low resolution and all settings set to LOW!
Is anyone else having these problems with there Notebooks?

    Hi Sammole,
Sine few days I have Satellite P500 too. I have to say its a very great notebook, I love it. The screen is really good and big and in my opinion the best option for games, videos and all other multimedia stuff. Furthermore its equipped with fast CPU and graphic card, ideal for playing games.
All my games running fine so I dont know what happened to you. Make sure that the eco mode isnt active, this will slow down the performance.
Make also sure that newest display driver from Toshiba is installed and latest DirectX version from Microsoft.
Have also a look Splinter Cell homepage. Maybe there is an update (patch) available that can help you. :)

I'm trying to do a book using Iphoto, but it no longer gives a low resolution warning like it used to in the older versions.
I don't know why it doesn't anymore, (or maybe I have to add it on somehow??) but it makes it difficult to know how much I can
zoom in on a picture and still have it be good printable resolution.
Does anyone know how to resolve this or add the warning to the latest version of iphoto?
    Thanks

With iPhoto 9 the low resolution for photos warning has been dropped. The only warning one will get now is for text that has overflowed the text box:
As Larry suggested send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html to get it back. That's a big omission in my opinion.
You can determine what your minimum resolution is for your images (if all taken from the same camera) by dividing the pixel dimensions by the size of the larges frame in the book which would be 8.5 x 11. If it's at or above 150 dpi you'll be above Apple's previous resolution warning limit.

  • Why does low resolution warning show when I used a high resolution camera

    Hi,
I am just learning about iphoto, and have been uploading photos I took with a 4 mega-pixel camera. I have printed out photos at Kodak printers directly from the camera, and they came out great. However, when I upload the photos to the Mac, then burn them to a CD, and try to print them they come out blurry and have the low resolution warning. Does anyone know why that is happening? Is there a setting that decides the photo quality when pictures are uploaded?
Are the photos I have now "doomed" to be at low resolution?
    Thanks

The "share" function actually places a mini-library on the CD so that it can be loaded into another Mac that has iPhoto. Just like in your library, the CD will contain, for each photo, the original "out of the camera" version AND the most recently modified version AND a thumbnail for viewing within iPhoto. Apparently the thumbnail was the one that was inadvertently selected for printing and, of course, the resolution is minimal.
If you want to burn a CD for use on a PC or to give to your favorite photo-finisher, create a folder on the desktop and "File/Export" the contents of the album to that folder. Then, EXIT iPhoto and burn the CD with the contents of the desktop folder. After checking the CD and confirming that all is OK, you can trash that folder.

  • HT1044 Low resolution warning in iPhoto 09 but on screen looks great

    Hi:
I'm working with Snow Leopard and iPhoto 09.  I'm building a book and have added photos.  Some of the photos show a low resolution warning.
I'd like to keep them at the size shown in the book.  I've increased the zoom on the pages and the photos look crisp and clean.  Should I be concerned
about the low res icon then?
OR where do I find dpi info and how do I increase it?
    Thanks everyone!
    Terri
Here's a sample of the pic:
    file://localhost/Users/terrimcreynolds/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/Originals/2008/ R.%20Back%20to%20Venice/R_623.bmp

1 - yes you should be concerned - that is why there is a warning
2 - screens display images at 72 DPI - printing requires at least 150 DPI and 300 API is better
3 - you can not "increase DPI" since it is a mathmatical caculation - Dots Per Inch - Dots (pixels) divided by inches
4 - the solution is to use another photo or to reduce the "zoom" so that the photo does not have a warning
    5 -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • Low resolution warning with 8Mpixel image?

I've finished a new large size hardcover book, and some of the full page size (landscape) images with have 8 megapixel raw files as sources have low resolution warnings - some, but not all of them. Some of the photos have been edited in photoshop, and none of these have warnings. With the unedited pics, some have warnings, some don't - there doesn't seem to be any specific reason why some of the files have warnings. I haven't tried to actually buy the book, so I don't know what will happen with ordering. But it seems 8 megapixels should be fine for a large book landscape page.

    Limnidytis:
What size book and theme are you using? I'm not familiar with the RAW files but remember reading about there's a couple of files that get uploaded, the raw file and a jpg for viewing - something like that. Check and make sure it's the RAW file that's in the book and not the jpg file for viewing. Click on one of the files in the book and type Command-I to bring up the Info window for it. There you'll see the image size size in pixels and file size in KB or MB. As I said I'm not familiar with those files so may be way off on this.
As far as resolution is concerned it’s the overall pixel dimensions of the file that are important. For example a 3512 x 2338 pixel file will have a resolution of about 585 dpi for a 4 x 6 print. If you expand that to an 8 x 12 print (so we don’t have to crop) the resolution will drop to about 292.
A 3512 x 2338 file will give approximately a resolution of 275 if printed at an 8.5 x 11 size or approximately a full page photo in a large book. 275 is sufficient for that size print.
iPhoto will often report the dpi at 72 but the size it’s looking at may be somewhere around 48 inches for the larger side. This can be seen if you have an editor like Photoshop Elements where you can go in and change the dpi and pixels on a side and see how the size in inches changes.

  • Low resolution warning on pics

Hi. I'm new to this iPhoto app and not very good or experienced with photos!! And I need help!!
I received a CD with some pics on whihc I saved to my desktop as .jpg images. I then imported them into iPhoto 6.0.5 and they appear fine. However, when I try to order these pics using iPhoto I get a warning with regard to the low resolution quality of the pics for every size except the 5 x 8cm one. Is there a way to overcome this as I would really like to print these pics? The pic is a 480 pixel by 720 pixel.
    Please help me!!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    JMB2007:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What print size did your friend print these to? For a 4 x 6 inch print your dpi would be around 120 dpi. That might give you a "fair" print. To see if the size you want in the book will be OK try printing it yourself at that size and see how it looks. However, it may not look quite as good in the book.
That size is pretty small. Ask your friend if he burned the full sized image file and not a reduced size.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Low Resolution Warning on Calendar Pictures

I am in the process of creating a calendar using iPhoto '08. However, some of the pictures that I have added have a low resolution warning in the top right corner. I have tried cropping the photos, fitting the photo to frame size, zooming out, and reverting the photo to the original copy (all the things they told me to do on the Apple website), but the yellow yield signs are still not going away. Is there any way to fix this without resorting to "fitting the photo to frame size"? TIA!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What are the pixel dimensions of the photos you are using?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Low resolution warning?

I have the Nikon D80 and have it set to fine and large file format and can't seem to enlarge bigger than an 8 x 12. Is Aperture possibly compressing the files somehow, or changing the mega pixels when I export the photo?

What are the pixel dimensions of the Image?  What do you mean by " ... can't seem to enlarge bigger than ..."?  Are you printing? exporting?  Using what settings?
Fwiw, the first bullet point from the guidelines on this page in the User Manual is likely apposite:
    Printing Tips
Here are a few suggestions to help you with the printing process:
Use the highest-resolution image possible: It’s preferable to work with images imported directly from your digital camera. However, even images imported directly from your camera or card reader can be low-resolution, low-quality images. This is why it’s important to shoot with the highest-resolution settings available on your camera. Compression settings applied during image capture may be apparent when you print. Consider shooting RAW files if the setting is available, and shoot at the highest bit depth possible. If you’ve imported an image that was reduced or compressed in another application, Aperture cannot increase the resolution of the file. In other words, Aperture cannot replace image information that was previously removed during the compression process. If possible, locate the original full-resolution image file, use the Lift and Stamp tools to apply the adjustments you’ve made to the low-resolution file, and print the higher-resolution image file.
Use a printer that supports 16-bit printing: If the image you’re printing is a high-resolution 16-bit file, using a printer that supports 16-bit printing results in smoother gradations.
Color calibrate your Aperture system: It’s important to calibrate your display and printer so that your printed images look as much as possible like the images you see on the computer screen. For more information about color calibrating your Aperture system, see Calibrating Your Aperture System.
